i went to the photo&film expo on sunday and guess what? YES! i bought myself a lomo camera!!! YAY! hehehe. no more having to photoshop photos to look like lomography...

we've got an assignment with it coming up. we have to choose a group of 'stereotypes' and shatter it in 5 images. should be interesting to see everybody's results. for the project we'll be using the college's cameras. medium formats large formats and even a 6x12 panoramic. i'm thinking of staying with medium format either the hasselblad or mamiya.

also did a trip to the drakensberg with dad an the bie once again, that was awesome and i got some great landscape shots too. i love my polariser he he he. so the projects for these holidays are interior and architecture, landscape and a fine art series. should be interesting. other than that we're supposed to start on our protfolio work...

its been really busy but great at college lately. we're starting digital work *whew* its about time. lol. so at the moment we're getting a few specific brief assignments where they give us an example shot and we have to copy it almost perfectly. not always easy lol. this one lady in the course got a photo with a mouse sitting on top of cheese. she had to re create the shot in a posh kitchen, the cheese had to be gouda and on a white plate, the mouse had to be black and white and had to look lovingly at the cheese. lol. yeah not easy for her but she pulled it off really well...

so it was my turn to reach into the box and i pulled out a shot of a really fat man topless wearing a tutu and waving a wand *ROFL* was great, but i was horrified at going up to some random person asking them t model this for me. anyway, so after getting some guts i asked my neighbour who agreed wholeheartedly and then the planning began. it took me only a day though, getting materials for the tutu, glitter for the wand and background and borrowing studiolights from friends... well the result was pretty good, i got full marks yeah, so chuffed. lol.

so i'm now off to start putting up some college work of mine. hopefully you guys will be able to see some progress in my work.

anywaywhat i'm really excited for is this weekend. the college planned a trip to magalies to do some landscapes... and happy go lucky me goes rummaging in my dad's old camera bag and i managed to find 4 different polarisers *woop woop*. and today i went to get an adapter and another polariser for my digital because my dad's equipment is only for the 28 year old minolta film camera i've been using. these shots are gonna rock...cant wait.

DAMN the wait of film!!!! lol...

and on thursday is my first high key try. i'm actually going with a darker tanned person and making her look like a sun goddess. i cant wait.

our darkroom sessions are ok, pretty long to be stuck in such a tiny DARK enclosed space lol. and i always need to intensify my grading on the enlarger, i swear i'm almost ready to just choose a different neg! sigh.



anyway, last year i promised you guys photo's of europe. but u see now that i've started the studies i've realised i was a shit photographer lol, so those 'really beatiful' shots are now quite a disappointment lol. so wat i'm gonna do is choose a select few that i can live with to put up here...

and what am i studying? PHOTOGRAPHY of course. hell yeah wow. wow. wow. man i feel sorry for u guys studying accountin or summing like that lol. but hell its no joke. two years of full time studies. i've only just started and their already killing us. difficult, financially drainging, physically shit. wow carrying around a manfrotto tripod is a bitch.

plus we're learning only on slide film so its emotionally draining as well. take your shots, gotta wait days for the development and then they all look like shit and u gotta redo them before the hand in date... but hey, its worth it for that one perfect shot...


also the assignments we have get us out there and doing shoots, awesome projects and superb techniques....

ok, picture this: c.a. 40 BMW motorbikes gather once a year in winter to drive from joburg to the drakensburg for breakfast. well thats what we did anyway, i rate ususally they pick different destinations every year. all in all a trip of 860 kms

ok, so we ended going with around 70 bikes this time. dad and i woke up around 4:30 on sunday morning. still more than half dazed we put on our gear (plus about 5 jackets beneath) and drove to the BP petrol station where evryone met up... after a quick speech by one of the lyndhurst bmw motor guys we were off. still pitch dark btw and about 2 degrees celcius.

oh, did i mention i took my camera along? of course. not the best photgraphic talent on these pics but brilliant memories. i'm putting them up jus after this...


ok, where was i?
right, so the temp went down to -4 degrees (MO-FO!) at one point, but so worth it. at the beginning all u can see in the mirror is 60 headlamps in the back. then the sun started coming up WOW! i tell you. orange, reds, yellows, greens and blues above a fog and ice coated mountain view. amazing.

one of the guys we knew there only went in jeans and ended up stuffing newspaper down his pants to keep warm unlucky...
so in between we drive ahead of the group and try to take photos but before u know it they're past already. so my dad gave it another try, catch up to the group, drive ahead of group very far, then get off and take continuous photos. it rocked having all of em zoom past and waving. at 160 km/h nogal.

around 9isch we arrived at the posh montusi lodge (where oddly enough i broke a tile in the bar 2 years ago from shooting a poolball off the table). breakfast was on the BMW guys. i can only remember the one guys name 'mikethebike'... breakfast was eggs, sossages, bacon, toast, juice, fruit... bladi bladi, u name it. not too shabby either...

after that everyone drove back their own route eventhough most went the golden gate tour and through clarens for another beer.
by this time my back was aching from carrying the camera for hours on end... we got home after 4 in much pain, did i say it was like 860 kms? but hell it was soooo worth it eventhough we froze to death...

so doing it again, i was also the youngest person there which was a little strange






on another note, i'm going on holiday for a month on thursday, (germany, england and paris) so this is a GOODBYE from me, till about a month... i will be back with lots of photo's. yes, hate me!

yay, i'm so happy!



well, other than that I NEED SOME HELP. so i really want to study photography next year coz i'd like to dabble into every possible aspect photography has to offer. well, now i've realised its quite expensive. i can still go but i'm wondering if it wouldnt be better to stick to selective short courses and then work with a photographer for a year or so to learn the ropes.

if anyone has studied at the National College of Photography and done the 18 month diploma, please let me know what its like and if its worth it. other than that guys, jus give me lots of personal opinions please.



life's good, other than deciding what the fuck to do with my career. i'll soon be uploading one or two pics of my room, which is bright red and white and now has a lovely new bookshelf which matches my piano. its a beaut....

easter rocked, was in the kruger, where i made all the new wildlife pics (please critizise with useful comments), we managed the big five in 2 days, not too bad considering that it usually takes us a little longer. anyway we stayed in a new camp where they don have electricity yet, and my camera battery starts dying. wat 'n vok op... anyway, i survived coz i charged it at lunch after three days in another camp...
thankfully. coz later that day we had leopard, lions, chameleons,many more, all the usual animals (elephants, impalas,zebras, giraffe... etc.) and in the evening i even managed to get a shot of a jenet, near my tent. sadly the pic didn turn out right coz i couldn grab a tripod so quick, but unlike many millions of people i can at least say, i saw one... beautiful little creatures.

my job is awesome, i'm collecting books like i own a library.



SO PEOPLE, TELL ME, WHAT OF MY WORK DO YOU GUYS ENJOY SEEING THE MOST, OR WHAT DO YOU THINK I'M QUITE GOOD AT? JUST CURIOUS...

right now, i cant eat. for like two weeks i've been stuck on bread and apples... someone give me some junk food! i think i'm so desparate for food i might even venture into mcdonalds. 'supersize me' freaked me out and i stopped eating it. you should watch that documentary, was excellent. oh and i have vegetarian friends that actually eat the fries, i mean what the F%#K, those fries have more animal fat on them than an actual steak! call urselves vegetarian.
oh and (this is just a joke so don rip my head off) you people (vegetarians) stand for animal rights, but then, why do you eat their food?... love ya laura... miss u tons...

i have finally stopped fulltime work and only work sundays... MAN! i am elated because of that. most people who know me know that i'm into various music styles, everything from classical to metal (some exceptions, like volksmusic and kwaito). in the shop i work with i end up listening to house and R&B and some stuff that i've realised is not all that musically excellent. and well if you hav one cd in a shop five days a week that gets repeated 5 times a day it starts pissing you off, so i became aggro (feelings of previous rant may have been caused due to this)... and now that i've stopped working i enjoy my music anytime i can! and i'm better because of it...

so think about it, the fact if ur feeling shit may be caused by the shit your stuck with and have to hear...

ok, so now i have all week to myself (sept sundays seeing as i still need to work a little)... YAY... and what am i doing:

NOTHING!!!! hahaha
