I got a PS3 on Friday. I haven't played any games yet (I've been distracted from it by prototype) but I've just put Disgaea 3 in and I'm ready for an all nighter. ^_^

I love the way the molten solder flows. I love the "snip" my wire cutters make when I trim the leads. I love watching my PCB as the pattern I'm etching slowly appears. I even love the smell of flux! Flux is my anti-drug!

When I finished, I went to get my files to remove the burrs, realised that I hadn't yet removed them from their packaging (having recently bought new ones). So I got out my penknife (a blade less than an inch long), cut the first tie and promptly slipped and ended up with a 2" cut on my palm.

I'd like to point out that this doesn't fit the definition of irony. There's nothing unusual, unlikely or funny* about being injured by a knife.

By co-incidence my camera stopped working so I contacted eBuyer (whome I bought it off) and arranged to have it picked up.

Today the package arrived from eBuyer with a massive hole in it and some of the items missing (although to be fair, nothing in it was broken). X@

About 30 minutes later the courier came to pick up the camera (there weren't any problems there).

The moral of the story: don't use FedEx.

Anyway, as it turns out my blood type is "B+", according to wikipedia this means I share my blood type with 8% of the rest of Britain's population (yay, I'm special!), can recieve a transfusion from 54% and donate to 11%. I guess not being able to donate's not that big a loss then.

I did the best with what I could (two hard copies of 1 weeks worth of work) and headed off to the test (having been up all night) hoping to scrape a pass.

I arrived in the lecture theatre with 5 minutes to spare and 13 pages of bodged together portfolio. Then the lecturer came in and said "The test has been postponed until Monday due to problems with the network".

Yay ^_^

For added irony I happened to try and pass the time in the night by watching a corrupted AVI of the exam episode of Soul Eater (it stopped half way through due to the aforementioned corrupt file).

To my surprise this burp was accompanied by a strange mist, which I quickly realised was the contents of the capsule. Presumably the powder didn't dissolve in my stomach for some reason and was blasted out along with the gas in my stomach.

Its been two years since my last, apparently the vision in my right eye's shifted so I'll need to to pick up new glasses near the end of the month (I'll need to find a way to fit my goggles over my glasses .

Ingredients

Pastry (enough for two cake-pies)

1. 60g of flour


2. 20ml of vegetable oil


3. Pinch salt

Filling (enough for ? cake-pies)

1. 60g (4 tblsp) of flour


2. 25ml (1.5 tblsp) of vegetable oil


3. 30g (4 tblsp) cocoa powder


4. 25g (2 tblsp) sugar


5. 1 Egg


6. 25ml (1.5 tblsp) milk

Icing (enough for 3-4 cakes)

1. 25g (3 tblsp) confectioner's sugar


2. 16g (2 tblsp) cocoa powder


3. 1 tblsp Milk

Method (case)

1. Preheat the oven to about 200 degrees C


2. Stir together the salt and flour


3. Stir in vegetable oil until all ingredients are mixed fully


4. Stir in water (1 tablespoon at a time) until you form a slightly sticky dough.


5. Divide the pastry into balls.


6. take one of the balls and push your thumb into the center, pinch the edges to form a container with a base of about 5cm diameter and walls about 5mm wide. Wrap a strip of foil (or cardboard or something similar if you prefer) around it to hold the shape. Place another piece of foil inside to prevent it collapsing on itself.


7. Bake on a baking tray on a middle shelf for 10 minutes.


8. Remove foil from inside (leave the outside foil in place for now). Allow to cool.

Method (Filling)

1. Mix the flour, sugar and cocoa together.


2. Stir in egg.


3. Add oil and milk, stir into a smooth mix.


4. Spoon the filling into the cases so that they are filled to just below the edge.


5. Return to the oven for 10 minutes, until the filling has risen into a mountain shape.


6. Remove the foil and allow them to cool.

Method (Icing)

1. Stir the sugar and cocoa together


2. Add the milk and stir until a thick but smooth consistency is reached, add more milk if necessary.


3. Coat top of cake pie with icing.


4. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to help icing set.

Analysis: Icing and filling acceptable. Filling remained moist, possibly because of the isolation of the pastry and the icing. Pastry was too hard, possibly increase fat content of later attempts.

Long Version: Basically I had a parcel arrive which needed paying for on delivery due to import tax (£28.46). The deliveryman needed exact change and I only had £10 and £20s. First I counted my change and only had about £5, so I ran back to my flat and asked my flatmates, but they didn't have any change. So I ran all the way to the campus (just accross the road, but it was uphill) to get to the cash machine. Said cash machine was out of money. Finally I ran to the union shop and got some change. I then sprinted back and caught the deliveryman just as he was about to leave ("Wait, he's here now"). I now have my package but running around in the sun's left me feeling a bit naucious.

On the plus side I now have a pair of infared goggles (I've wanted a pair since I was 10) wheeee! ^_^

In other news I've had to get a new mouse, and I've finally replaced my cafetiere.

Here are my contingency plans, in case gateway to another dimension is created;

1. Obtain suit of orange body armour and crowbar if possible.


2. I will ensure said suit has a helmet


3. Ensure I have both warm and fireproof clothing, as well as digging and breathing apparatus in case of elemental planes.


4. I will also keep in mind the existence of none traditional elemental planes and bring a full array of antidotes, shock proof clothing and whatever else I can think of.


5. Recruit priest in case of hell dimension.


6. If I end up in another dimension, ensure I'm not dead


7. The above goes double if everything looks like the real world but blurrier


8. I will be wary if the dimension resembles (or worse, seems to have natural laws which follow the rules of) any video game, board game, tabletop game, TV show or movie.


9. I will not wear red (see first point)
