Yes, finally I am off to Edinburgh to see the Fringe Festival. It spans many weeks and is basically showing film, music, theatre and art. Cannot wait

I leave tomorrow (or today seeing as it's now past 1am) at around 10pm. I have just cleared all my messages (finally) after sorting out my internet which was so annoying, a trip to the ER was necessary

I'm too tired to do loads of features now but here are three pieces which I love from the same artist:

I won't be on much because I'll be too busy taking photos and having 'a ball'. I come back on Sunday by plane (which is miles better than by train - 10hour journey to look forward to) so I'll see you when I get back!

Hello all

THE UPDATES:

Big changes have been made to my gap year. The story goes like this: after many arguments with my mother about going to South Korea and New Zealand for a gap year in Summer 2010, I gave in; I was sick of the arguments. I then searched around for a safer trip. My mind landed on the Appalachian Trail. For those of you who don't know what the AT is, it's 2,175 miles of pure hiking. It is based in America and starts in Georgia and goes right the way up to Maine. Alternatively you can do Maine to Georgia, depending on the time you go. It takes (on average), 5-6months. There are shelters at regular intervals as well as food 'stores'. Also, thousands of hikers attempt it every year (only 25% actually complete it) so you are never alone for long.

I am planning a SoBo hike (Maine to Georgia), mid June 2010. I plan to do the whole hike but first I am going to spend many months training my body up for it. Now, after pitching this to my mother, more arguments have ensued. But this time, I will not give in. I have had a lot of support from other people at an Appalachian Trail website: [link]

Hey all

It's been over two months since I have last been online and I have done this several times now. Why do I join a great site where I can post my photos and recieve/give critique and then get lazy and not go on for months? I continue to amaze myself. So I'm back and have made a vow to come online at least once every two days. This would be made easier if the damn college networks didn't filter deviantART.

I say I'm back with a vengeance for three reasons:

1): I have many features to enter in this journal.

2): I am about to upload a huge variety of pictures that haven't bothered to upload.

3): I have made decisions about New Zealand, writing and my future which be explained later on.

I have a lot of features to do because I haven't been here for a couple of months. The first lot are portraits, the second landscapes and the third lot street. So, here we go:

This isn't constructive at all! This is immature. Then, Lewis replied along with his girlfriend. I then replied. Then, she replied on his page: [link] - top comment. I don't get it. How can people be THAT stupid? She obviously doesn't get the point of deviantART as she treats it as a facebook/myspace you know? Put up pictures of EVERYTHING, no matter how bad. I then replied (and I'm going to boast which I do very rarely) in some style (see comment below). But it just amazes me that people are that stupid. She's hypocritical and in some ways 'offensive'. Leave your own comments about what you think....sorry but I am pissed off....

Yes there are better ways to put it but I get carried away. I bet you in ten or so years time, I will be seeing a shrink.

It's been nearly two months since my last Journal Update so I thought I'd update it what with it nearly 2009 and all. Christmas was great; the family were down so some quality time with them was good. New Years should also be good even if they have all gone home

I got a tripod for Christmas so tomorrow I may do some experimenting with some slow shutterspeeds

UPDATES: There are two places that I'd like to visit before myself and Ash go on the New Zealand trip. Both are for photographic and aesthetic pleasures. The places are listed below:

1): Ukraine - Chernobyl: I'm pretty sure that Chernobyl is in Ukraine, near the border of Belarus but I have a hazy memory of someone telling me it is in Russia. Whether the territory is owned by Russia I don't know. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

2): America - Pennsylvania - Centralia: The lead-up to me wanting to visit this place is as follows: I saw a horror film a while ago called 'Silent Hill'. It was mediocre but held my attention because I'm a fan of the games. The basic plot is that a mother takes her daughter to 'Silent Hill' because she keeps on having visions and dreams of the place. Unfortunately, she crashes the car within the boundaries of 'Silent Hill' and gets knocked unconscious. When she awakes her daughter has disappeared. Determined to find her, she follows the road and eventually comes to the town of 'Silent Hill'. The town is deserted and it is later discovered that a series of underground fires started in the mines many years ago and still burn today. Many residents of the town died but some still remain. Instead of snow falling, ash replaces it. The town is full of mutated monsters that Rose must avoid to get her daughter. For more information on the film, go here:

Now, after watching 'Silent Hill' I was curious to find out if it was based on a real town and low-and-behold it was! The town was called 'Centralia' and could be found in Pennsylvania, America. Apparently the same thing happened (minus the monsters and the lost daughter). In the late 1960's fires occurred in the mines underground but they were not discovered until the early 1970's. The town was ordered to evacuate and all but a handful of people left. Today, 11 people reside in this forgotten, deserted town including the mayor because he 'likes it there'. Like Chernobyl, the pure landscape would be interesting to see and to hear the stories of the civilians still there would also be fascinating. Photographing a deserted town would be haunting but a truly memorable experience. For more information on Centralia, go here:

1): Finish a novel.
2): Start surfing again
3): Learn how to do good portrait pictures
4): Get a tripod
5): Get a job

Five things for me to do in a lifetime: (I will update this list as I complete them which may take a while)

1): Publish a novel
2): Learn Muay Thai
3): Direct/Star in a film
4): Photograph New Zealand
5): Visit New Zealand and New York

Well, some of them can be crossed off. After college I'm going on a gap year with a mate of mine (Ashley) to New Zealand! It is going to be great! Many photographs will come from there and I will also get the time to write as I will buy myself a laptop and work from there. For the first two months I won't be working in New Zealand. Both myself and Ashley have always wanted to go to New Zealand, mainly because it's where they filmed the Lord of the Rings. The first couple of months will be pure writing, traveling, photographing, collecting. For the year I will keep a blog, updating my movements and happenings. When I was in year 11 with GCSEs upon me I couldn't wait to get that year finished so I could start college. Now I can't wait for college to finish so I can travel!

I will also get a tripod (hopefully for Christmas) so that will be another thing done. I am still applying for a job xD But I have enough money in my account to get by for now. Damn this is going to be good! So, enough about me, how have you been? My theme for the features this month is Mountains

Now, I've never featured anyone before and I have a lot of people to feature so I'd best get started. Also included in this journal is a list of upcoming photographers you should keep an eye on

To me, this guy is simply amazing and I've picked three of my favourites from him:

These, in my opinion, are his greatest photos to date and the editing he did is very smooth

He is another person with extraordinary talent. Again, three favourites of mine have been picked out.

He really knows how to capture the sense of the picture and is definitely someone to watch.

I have enlisted the help of a friend who is coming out tomorrow to help me out with some photos depicting street life so they should be up on deviantART after my computer is fixed. Not only that, but I have some good ideas for poetry - just need to write them down and make something good of it.

I may also be ordering Night of the Living Dead (the shops didn't have the two disc spec ed version

) and a hundred pounds has gone towards my saving up of a Nintendo Wii + Resident Evil 4. Things have taken a definite upturn.

Seeing as I won't be on deviantART for the next couple of days as my computer is going in to be serviced, I have taken this opportunity to take some good photos. Will upload when my computer gets back ... if it ever does XD.

Adding to the list of frustrations is the fact that my computer that was going in to get serviced ended up ... not ... getting ... serviced... Argh! Apparently they need the disc that we installed Windows on because we have some corrupted updates. Why can't life be simple?

The computer is going in on Monday and as my dad's going up to Edinburgh to do some shows, it's going to be hard getting it home, setting it up and making sure it works fine. So, I have tomorrow to make up for the missed shots in Wolves ... great.

My dad has so many virus blockers on here it takes half an hour to start up....and then it freezes. *sigh*
Still, I'll be able to go on deviantART on my sisters laptop and still upload photos. I should be able to take some interesting ones in Wolverhampton. If any of you come from the Midlands or know someone that comes from the Midlands, please right a little note

The only thing I'm looking forward to when I go up there (apart from seeing my sister and taking some good pics) is going to buy Night of the Living Dead 2disc special edition. I'm sad I know. Well, I mustn't complain all the time. I've still got 5 hours travelling to look forward to....
