We DO NOT NEED to see a Captain America for the Philippines. We DO NOT NEED to see the Filipino version of the X-Men. And the rant goes on and on.

What I desperately want to see is for some new talent, some absolute unknown, to burst onto the scene of Filipino comics with something other than a Filipino version of the superhero comic. I want to see something other than flexing thews and stylized babes. I want something that would truly be something of the Philippines, NOT the Filipino version of something else.

In a nutshell, I need someone to do pencils. Rough and sketchy is fine, I plan to do a lot of photomanipulation, colouring, and rendering combined with pencils. I can do all of the above except for pencils.

I'm looking for a style that's not anime. The story is disturbing and dark, and I have yet to be proven wrong in my opinion that the manga style of drawing cannot well express the dark gritty noir style.

What it is

What it is
A big project. Basically Shakespeare's Hamlet in graphic novel format. Good for maybe 60-70 pages. Maybe more. It doesn't pay anything really. It's more a work of love or just something to do on your spare time. I'm hoping to make something quality, but I doubt if it'll go commercial. Just a work of love really.

What it's about
Hamlet. If you haven't read it, you really should. Great work it is.

What I need

An artist
Basically, the Emperor (me) is crap at drawing. I need someone who can draw. I'm looking for a more surreal, twisted type of drawing. The sketches don't need to be inked or extremely refined. I'm basically going for a dark Arkham Asylum (the graphic novel) kind of look.

A letterer
I need someone with an eye for using text to accentuate the feel and mood of the story. I know I'm crap at it. The letterer not only adds the text for when the characters speak, but is in charge of speech bubbling, sound effects, and the layout of speech and whatnot on the page.

What I do
I provide the scripts and layout. I also do all of the color work and digital touching up. The final pages should look like comic versions of some of my darker work. With the same feel to it.

What it is
A short comic project good for perhaps 15-20 pages.

What it's about
Life in general. Note me for the full story if you're interested.

What I need
An artist. I am crap at drawing and can't draw to save my life. I can color just fine, but drawing, I can't do. The project will be good for around 15-20 pages, with me writing and coloring, and an artist drawing (and inking if they so choose). The style needed for the story is mostly cutesy children's story type drawing, chibi works fine I suppose.

What do you get out of it
Well, as I can't really pay at the moment, all I have to offer is the satisfaction of having completed a project. It's experience, and in the end, might be fun. Who knows? If this goes well and people like it, we may release a printed version at this year's KomiKon or something.

The future
With this, I'm trying my hand at comics. The next project will either be a webcomic, or a graphic novel.

The story in a nutshell

In a nutshell, it's a very simple story. It follow this one guy through around 15-20 pages. Throughout the entire comic, he's running to the left, and every now and then he meets up with other people walking slowly to the right.

To all the people walking slowly to the left, he tries to encourage and inspire to turn around and see things his way. All of the people walking to the right however, tell him that there's nothing new, his ideas are nothing special, etc... etc...
So he ignores them, sure and steadfast in his belief that he's unique and can change the world with his forward thinking views. Eventually, he starts meeting up with other people running to the left. He talks to these people, trying to inspire them, trying to get them to move. They agree and they all start running to the left.
He eventually comes to the end of his running left, and sees a massive group of people crowding around something. He goes to the crowd, pushing his way through until he gets to the front. Once there he sees what everyone else is looking at.
A massive mirror, and everyone's reflection is seen in it. And in the mirror, he sees something that shocks and chills him to the core. Every single person there, is the same.
One by one, the people in the crowd start walking slowly away to the right.
The end.

Basically a short story about how nothing ever really changes, and that no matter how hard anyone tries, in the end, nothing really matters and nothing ever really changes.

i absolutely abhor (my own) birthdays. i love celebrating them but i hate the idea of getting older but not any better (at all things).

Step 1.

Make a post in your dA journal. The post should contain your list of10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

If you wish for real-life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

Step 2.

Surf around your friends list (or friends friends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

1. I've decided to take off Dark Ice (the comic) and everything Dark Ice related off my dA page. I might make a new dA page for all that stuff, or perhaps a Drunk Duck (webcomic hosting service) account for it. I want to set the line between my artwork and my comic.

2. You'll have noticed that a lot of the pictures with wings are up. To make those wings, I used a wing model I downloaded. While it's legal to use for my own personal usage as long as I don't sell it, I have found that I'm rather uncomfortable using it and have decided to make my own wing model and not have to rely on others work.

Those are the reasons mainly. Now, while a whole bunch of art has gone down, I'm going to be uploading a great amount in the next week or so. So, stay tuned. What is the purest love one can have? How does one acheive this? Understanding my friends, understanding. One cannot truly and fully love till one understands the other. Love is purest when you understand another, comprehend them, and know them. For in total and pure understanding of another individual, how can you not but love them?

To truly understand, you must accept, for without acceptance, you cannot, and will not know what makes another person what they are. Reject any tiny and minute aspect of the other person, and there shall remain that puzzle, that conundrum as to why that person is that way. But solve that, get that key, and there, there you have the purest of loves that can be found.

I speak not of the love between a boy and a girl, a father and a son, or even that between friends. I speak of love for another person for who they are. Greater than all these loves is that which truly accepts another for who they are because you understand them.

And with this understanding, you destroy that person. One cannot destroy another without first understanding them. A wound inflicted on another cannot be lethal unless one knows where to strike. And how better to understand where to strike, than to be that person?

To be that person, is to love them, to understand them. In understanding you know their strengths and weaknessess. In loving, you accept all that. In destruction, you use all that. Three things though, must come to pass for destruction to be complete.

1. The destruction of the other must be without hope of return. It must be final, and crushing leaving not even the spark of possibility to even hope for return.

2. Destruction must be from within, the other must know that they are destroyed, and accept it as being complete.

3. Others must accept it.

How to acheive all this? Love that person. To destroy them completely, you must know everything about that person, you must understand what they hold dear and what makes them tick. Crush these, and you destroy the other.

To destroy from within, you must first understand the weaknessess of the other, turn these against that person, and use your understanding of that person to ensure that they know they are defeated.

And finally, to make others accept it, one must make such an end of the other, as to leave no doubt in any other individual as to the totality and finality of your deed.

The conclusion? There is none, for this is a never-ending game. The game of life and death, and I hand to you now the key to life and death: Love.

I'm feeling philosophical today...

What is life? Is it the goodness we make of it? The pleasures we can find? I beg to differ. Life is the summation of all our hurt, our fear and our sadness.

But why Mr. Blademaster Raven?

Because put simply, imagine a world where everything was happy, there was no suffering, no pain, no lonliness. Everyone loves you and you love everyone. What kind of world would that be? Pretty boring actually... Not just boring, more... pointless... Without the hurt to define it, what does it become? It becomes, nothing. To look at nothing but that which is good and happy dooms one to oblivion.

Aye, it's true that not everyone must follow this logic, but there exist, people like me who are the contradiction to the norm. I'm not saying that I'm anything special or anything, just that, what would life be like, if no one opposed anything? That's what I do, I oppose, I show the ugly in the beauty, I show the hurt in the passion, it's who I am.

Hi, I'm the Blademaster Raven, also Master Raven. Lakan to friends. I'm from the Philippines though I grew up abroad. I'm in the Philippines now. But enough of my personal life.
