This semester seems to be rather busy than my last... probably due to the fact that every class I have is a group based semester long project. I have five classes a week, one for each day, three out the five are classes that have me working in group projects . I don't mind working in groups but come on! Attending group meetings for each of them, doing work as the group graphic designer, doing product research and etc. If that's not keeping me busy enough--I have other assignments to do as well.

Work List

1-Draw the storyboard for Art Direction
2-Develop my photos for B&W Photography
3-Do research and prepare presentation for Presentation Skills
4-Paint seven more acrylic paintings for Drawing Concept 2
5-Design, draw, carve and print out my lino print for Drawing Concept 2

That's still a lot of work to do but at least I'm done with one group project from one class. That, by the way, would be the charity event at Rumah Charis for my Advertising Principles class. Thank God that's done and over with. Plus, we all passed with an A (except for one person who absolutely did not do any work).

It's a busy semester for me and I can't wait for the end of semester holidays!

I mean, come on--we don't even know what to eat half the time to care enough to learn how to cook them. The only decent thing we both can make are french toast, omelletes, scramble eggs (only because our omelletes got ruined), potato wedges, white rice, fried chicken, steak and yeah... That's pretty much it.

The first recipe I tried cooking when I got back home was nasi goreng (fried rice), it turned out okay I suppose. I mean, both my brother and I are still alive, right? I can't be that bad lol! It looks fine, the only problem was that it was really--REALLY tasteless. Compared to my mother's nasi goreng... it had only 50% LESS flavor than hers. But that didn't stop us from eating it... we were too hungry to care lol.

Moving on, the second recipe I tried was curry rice... yeah... I cooked the rice perfectly as always but I can't say the same about the curry... It turned out so, so, so very weird. I don't think I can find a word to describe it actually. However, there is a bright side to this story! The beef pieces I put in the curry cooked right and turned out to be tender. So yeah... As I was eating it for dinner (yes, I ate it because I was too hungry), I began to feel like a cooking retard. *sigh* Keep trying, right?

Alright, the third recipe that I tried cooking tonight. One of my favorites that my mother cooks to perfection and I really, really, really didn't want to mess this one up! It's another recipe with white rice which I know I can cook (only because it's the easiest), I more concerned with the sauce that goes with it. Tonight's sauce was kuah kicap (black sauce made from oyster sauce). As I was following my mother's recipe (literally, had it printed out and with me constantly), I began to feel at ease because everything seem to flow smoothly and I felt that everything that I was doing was, was, was okay. I had no worries at all throughout the entire time. And when it came to taste-testing it... it turned out to be... absolutely... PERFECT!!!!!! I was elated and totally high with pride and mostly euphoria. You should have seen me--I was doing a little victory dance in the kitchen. So yeah! I can cook! YEAH!!!

To my kid bro, thanks for being my guinea pig and eating all that I cooked... even though they were crap lol. And thank you for saying that my kuah kicap tastes like Ma's. Thank you.
I'll keep on trying to cook and improve!

Day 1
Reception at the airport of Cusco.
Transfered to the Amaru Hostel.
City tour at 2pm-6:30pm that included Qoricancha which is otherwise known as the Temple of the Sun, the Cathedral of Cusco, the famous fortress of Sacayhuaman, archeological sites of Q'enqo, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay.

Thoughts?
First day in Cusco? Altitude sickness... got an annoying headache most of the time which robbed me of my fun during the city tour, but at least there were pils for me to take to remedy that lol . The archeological sites required some hiking but at least we got to see some Inca ruins .

Day 2
Woke up early and waited for tour bus at 6am.
Transfered to a train station in Poroy in which the train ride lasted for 3 hours.
Arrived to Aguas Calientes, from there took a bus to... MACHU PICCHU!
Had a guided tour at the "Lost City of the Incas" for about 2-3 hours.
Took a bus back to Aguas Calientes for lunch.
Took a train back to Poroy.
Took a cab back to Amaru Hostel.
Arrived back around 9pm.

Thoughts?
The trip started out as freezing as hell!!! (Freezing as hell--so I've created an oxymoron ). Fortunately, it got warmer as we got nearer to Macchu Picchu but sadly... when we finally arrived there ... the weather was too hot! And for the first time of my life--I got sun-burn on my nose!!! Plus, I now have a good tan lol . On a childish whimsy, it was also my first time riding a train so that was cool .

Day 3
Had breakfast and got ready for the Sacred Valley of the Incas trip.
Visited the village of Pisaq and their local market.
Drove throught the Sacred Valley and had lunch later.
Visited the archeological site of Ollantaytambo.
Visited the Chinchero market.
Returned to the Amaru Hostel in the late evening.

Thoughts?
The local markets here were so interesting! They had lots of handicraft made by the locals such as pan-flutes, jewelry made of gemstones, clothes and hats made of alpaca wool or fur and so many other things. Unfortunately, every market here in Cusco and probably the rest of Peru... they all sell the same kind of things . The bus ride through the Sacred Valley was a bit too dizzying for me (then again, I suffer from motion sickness ), but the view was amazing. The vast landscapes, the rolling mountains and the great open sky--they were totally and a paradise for photograpers I think . Ollantaytambo was interesting also, my parents couldn't make the climb though...

Day 4
Arrived at Cusco airport around 11am.
Arrived back to Lima around 2pm.

Thoughts?
Though it was tiring most of the time... I had fun . Ended up drinking lots of their coca tea to help remedy the altitude sickness . Just arrived here in Peru yesterday and boy am I damn tired from the flights! Twelve hours from Malaysia to Holland, wait for four hours for the transit flight, then another twelve hours from Holland to Peru. That's basically two days... two whole days of my life spent in an aeroplanes and airports... so yeah... I'm pretty damn tired and suffering from jetlag. It sucks that I get motion sickness from land, air and sea .

On a positive notes, me and my kid brother get to visit and see our parents again since they're outstationed here . Also, there are some kinks to being children of an Ambassador lol. We get special treatment and stuff... it's like we're rich people with drivers to take us anywhere we want and the house is huge that it feels like we're in a hotel. Grand, ain't it?

I'll be here for three weeks and since I have internet access here, I'll try to submit stuff if I can.

Secondly, to get to my main topic at hand. On July 2nd, my brother and I shall be jet-setting to Peru for a vacation and visit our parents. It'll be an adventure I'm sure of it... just as long motion-sickness doesn't kill me first lol! Which also means I'll be absent from dA for about a month but I will try to check in when I have the time and not too busy having fun there . Who knows... I might end up trying to buy something cool to bring back and give to my college buddies. We'll have to see .

In conclusion, I'll be back at school by August 10th for those at college who's wondering where the hell I've been. Let's just say... I'm on sabbatical to figure things out... Hopefully, I'd get an epiphony and get back on track in life. I don't know if that'll happen but I can hope, right? So before my Peru trip, I'll try to submit some more OCs in before I go ahead and suffer jet-leg lol.

Last week me and my brother drove over to our grandparents house at Muar, Johor for almost three hours to help them clean the house, get it ready for the coming Hari Raya celebrations and you know, the whole balik kampong. I hated the entire experience and here’s why:

I HATE THEIR HOUSE
I HATE MUAR
I HATE KAMPONGS

1) My grandparents are natural born “hoarders” and their house reflects that extremely clearly. They treat their house as if it’s one BIG gigantic warehouse—everywhere you go in the house, you see cluttered, unorganized chaos! For God’s sakes! How can anyone live like this the way they do?! Can you imagine living inside a storage house for a week, can you?! I mean, they have things in the house that they haven’t used in over a decade… those things are just lying around and gathering dust and even those dust are gathering dust! Every room they have is filled with so much stuff… you wouldn’t know it was a guest room at all until you’ve removed most of its contents. It’s just deplorable and to make matters worse, they don’t know how to throw away some of the things here. If it’s one thing I’ve learnt from my mother, it that you should either throw or give things away that you haven’t used in over a year… I cannot believe that my mother is related to them at all. In this house there was, is and will always be things to fill up the house again.

2) Due to their hoarding ways… their kitchen is just as terrible. They have no sense of cleanliness and organization. I mean really, do you need two refrigerators filled with food? And if that’s not enough most of the food that’s in their fridge are either expired, expiring or will soon be expired—you can’t tell if something’s good to eat until you’ve opened it up and smell it. To makes matters worse, they treat their kitchen like a messy slaughter house. You see bits of meat, vegetables and everything in between on the floor, on the counters and in their sink. The trash is always so full that it actually overspills—urgh! Don’t get me started! My grandparents most of the times leave food out in the open for all sorts of vermin to come by and nibble at… their kitchen is not the most healthiest place in the house. It’s an utter mess and it always smells like there is something rotting in there. Yes, their kitchen is heavenly cesspool for flies, ants, cockroaches, lizards and rats. In fact, we caught three or more rats while we were staying there. Tch. No surprise there.

3) Muar… a small rural town in a middle of God knows where. There is absolutely nothing inspiring, beautiful or spectacular that exists there. It is a place filled with clutter, mess and traffic congestion—traffic congestion—in a middle of nowhere!!! It is a place of devastating boredom… I got so bored there I lost my appetite, creativity and optimism. You could say I became either very angry or extremely depressed while I was there… As a matter of fact, I thought I was going to die of boredom because it felt as if my soul had died. I spent of my living days in a nonchalant daze and staring into empty spaces… not thinking at all. That or I spent of my time sleeping for 12 hours straight lol! Yes, it was that terrible—I just wanted to get the hell out of there!

That’s how my Hari Raya week went about… and like I said at the very beginning of this Journal… I think I’ve wasted a week of my life because Muar has left me to become extremely uninspired, creatively retarded and in a way—brain-dead! So please don’t expect to see any artworks coming out of me soon….

I’m just glad to be back home…

I NEVER WANT TO GO BACK THERE AGAIN.
PERIOD.

P.S.
My grandparents are good people and I love them dearly... I just wish their living habits weren't so bad.

However, there are others who think that the concept of intelligence has a far broader scope. In some schools of psychology--intelligence can also have the distinct traits of creativity, personality, character and perhaps wisdom. When one looks at the word intelligence, one's definition of this word would probably be different from the person next to them. That is because in psychology, intelligence is made up of numerous things and many people have different opinions on what makes intelligence.

In spite of the numerous concepts and definitions of intelligence in psychology, the most dominant way of understanding intelligence is through tests. One could say that intelligence can be narrowly defined by these intelligence tests, or commonly known as IQ tests (Intelligence Quotient). Originally, in the year of 1905 a French government approached a psychologist named Alfred Binet and specially made the first intelligence test. Now the purpose of this test was to determine which children could benefit from the education and to weed out the rest.

These tests would then be divided into smaller sub-tests depending on how many types of intelligence they want to test on, but it would mostly be cognitive type tests such as the SATs. When one looks as the SATs for example, the purpose for this type of test is to measure how much the test-taker has learned--to measure the growth of their intelligence so far and the results will predict how much more smarter the test-taker will be in the future. Tests like these are useful because it helps the individual better understand their strong and weak points, and how they should improve on them.

Sorry to have bored you all to death with this essay... I just felt like flexing my essay writting muscles . Plus, it's a DAMN good way of explaining why we have so many annoying tests to take. From the day we can read, write and speak to the day we have a comfortable sedentary career... we shall be forever plagued by TESTS!!! Curse those bastards, curse them all!

So with that in mind, I thought it'd be nice to go back home and enjoy the rest of the day... that is after I finish playing around with the college's super-fast computer. However, rain had to come down pouring hard and forced me to return home quickly due to the fact that I had clothes hanging outside to dry which will undoubtly be wet by the time I arrive back home--but that is not going to stop me, so I immediately start my journey home post haste!
After walking about 25 minutes on route to home with my trusty umbrella, I thought to myself: "In about 5 or 10 minutes I'll be inside--nice and warm." Something worth looking forward to I suppose after spending quite awhile dodging foul animal excrements (damn you stray dogs ), dangerous pot-holes and frigid cold puddles the size of dinning tables fit for six people. Yes, I was in a very chipper mood--a jovial mood--a happy mood--let's just say I was damn optimistic and sunny in an otherwise dreary weather . However, that all change when this good-for-nothing reckless DUMBASS in his family-sized van (pardon my French ) drove over this HUGE puddle the size of a freight-truck and maddening speeds--next thing I knew was this enormous torrent of water came at me and--SPLASH!!! I was as wet as can be, for all I care--that could have be the GREATEST--if not the CLOSEST thing to a mega-tsunami !!! So there I was, drench in sub-freezing puddle water. I was 100% wet from head to toe for goodness-sakes!!! All the other vehicles drove onto the other lane to AVOID this massive puddle but this ONE van--oh I bet he had a jolly good time doing that . Or perhaps he thought I was not wet enough and thought to be charitable by giving me a monsoon to bathe in... how wonderful--good for him, I feel so much better . NOT!!! After that atrocious act, I instintively called him an ASSHOLE (pardon my French ) and gave him the while I was at it.
By the time I reach home all wet and utterly miserable, I realize that with every step I took... water sloshed out. To further extend my realization on how wet I was--a waterfall came out of my shoes when I took them off. Not only that--but my socks that I wore created another waterfall when I squeezed them dry!!! It was unbelievable, and this my friends are no mere exaggerations.
To end this tale, I end up wearing a random t-shirt out of my wardrobe that says: "I'm blessed!" across it. Such irony, right? All in all, I think this part of my life will be nothing more than a funny story to tell my friends and family in which we all can and at my dreary expense .
