Hey gang!

Well, it seems I'm going to NYC this summer to teach a course on Machinima (www.machinima.com). For the first time ever, I'll be ditching town for a few months in hopes to cultivate a new generation of 3D artist and filmmakers, and school them in the finer points of Death match. This will be something of a coming of age adventure for me, first time out of my element (Texas) that isn't a vacation, I have no doubts as to the huge 6 week blast I'll be having, but it does bring pause to reflect on the events leading to this point in my life. I keep pondering about how events seem to align them selves into a favor I never see coming, like how if I had landed the 'dream job' of video game development when I was applying last Nov/Dec there'd be no way for me to take the entire summer off to hang out in NY teaching what I love. Only one job in the entire world grants the exact time frame in which to fulfill this, and that is working at a school.

This NY trip means more than just some extra summer job cash, and aside from a big adventure into the unknown, it’ll also prove a highlight in my already vivid Machinima career. Something big enough to have a press release via the end of school “press welcome” film fest, this in conjunction to my already colorful press coverage (3D World Magazine, Ottawa Animation Fest, various indie film/animation mags, a college thesis topic, etc…) may be just the boost Dead on Que needs to come out of the dark and back into the spotlight with a mind-blowing new Animation or two.

After our post Fake Science hiatus, we are really getting to the point both as artist personally, and as evangelists of Machinima, that a new release from us could dramatically alter the face of the medium for the better. (Again.) I’m not trying to over brag or toot my own ego here, but we seem to always be on that bleeding edge of art and tech that a lot of Machinima studios just won’t touch or give much thought to. We always hit Machinima from a ‘does it look/feel unique’ point of view, never settling just for what we have been told the game can do, but how we can bend the game to our style. Fake Science was just such a production, we knew what Half-Life could do, but we didn’t care, we had our own vision, our own agenda, and we made the game fit around that. This is what we do, and this is who we are. Keggy makes it look good, I make it work, and Kierian_54 makes it rock.

Peace!

This time I'll be on the 'other' side! Just had my second interview with Sunnyvale ISD today, it was a committee interview, my first. I'll know if I get the job as their new computer lab aide by the end of the week, and if so, I start Monday!

This means several things will change in my day to day routine, no more rolling out of bed at 10:30, no more Star Trek TNG for lunch, and no more spontaneous 11pm-4am DA browsing/submissions!

However! Do not discount the change as bad just yet, I hate missing half the day by sleeping through it, I've seen most of TNG, and I can just as easily find time for DA other times during the day! I'll be earning money instead of losing money, plus I'll be doing my part in ensuring that the youth of today is ready for the complex world of computers tomorrow!

Granted the pay isn’t much, and the system only pays out once a month (Yeah, they all think it’s crazy too,) but the hour’s rock, and I’ll get summers off for Filmmaking, animating, and Film Festival hopping!

If it doesn’t pan out like I hope it does, I’ll probably be forced to move to CA or Washington State to finally snag my game dev job. Texas just doesn’t care about little old me when it comes to making games. It could be my specific field of expertise just isn’t appreciated yet. (Real-Time in game cinematics, better known as Machinima.)

At any rate, I finally got around to completing my Wheel of Time collection, book 9 and 10 are finally mine! Just started 9, taking my time, going to miss the series when I’m done.

Also, I think I may have settled on my next project’s topic, it should be crazy cool if I can nail it down like I have in my head.

[edit] Woot! I got the job! [/edit]

They say ideas come a dime a dozen, but I say so do doughnuts, those overpriced cookies at the mall!

Well, incase you were wondering, my x-mass panned out quite favorably, got everything on my little list, and even some very cool items that were not. (2 new Fedoras, now that's style!) The celebrations were quiet compared to the past, as my cousin David and his wife went down to her hometown in Argentina to get married, again, for real this time!

Meanwhile I've been on a creative journey of the mind, with a thousand cool ideas for movies, games, manga, parking lot efficiency boosters, you name it! I’ve been hitting the local rec center gym for a few months now, 2-3 times a week, and it is really starting to show, both in arm bulk and energy levels. The life of a computer nerd/filmmaker is a troubled one if you don’t take up a few of those healthy ‘jock’ habits, like going outside, or weight training.

I’ve also been selling computers, both to offices and family friends, in fact I’m just waiting on some money to transfer and I’m about to order some new parts while I type away here.

I’m seriously going to produce one of my crazy ideas for the upcoming 2005 Machinima Film Fest; I’ll post stuff about it here when I can.

ps. I played World of Warcraft for about a month, I hate it, it blows, and it’s hardly even a game. PVP is the only thing it has worth your time, but you can't really do that until you've played for 6 boring months of get item, kill monster to level your character up. MMORPGS have a very long way to go, I just don't see why people pay for this crap!

All I want for Christmas!

Man, I hate Christmas time! Some years I get all humble and ask for little or nothing, and some years I get all inspired to do all kinds of things so I ask for a great deal. I usually end up with whatever the fine gift givers want to give me anyway, which is almost all ways something I don't recall adding to my list. I've feeling quite industrious this year, but auto repair payments prevent me from making anything but a list Buddha would make.

This year I want, make that need, just two things: 1) An Intuos 3 Wacom Tablet. The 4x5 model (read: cheapest) will work just fine, I don't need much room to draw. It seems I'm slowly generating the need to draw in Photoshop, or at least use my hands in a more familiar way than the trusty mouse. I've been doing a great deal of game art, and good photoshopary paint skills are required for quality texture outputs, especially when I'm dealing with organics (read: people). Working with the mouse has suddenly become awkward where it once suited me just fine; it's strange, like a tingle. 2) New PC speakers. I would like those fancy THX 2.1 speakers from Logitech, about 100 bucks or so, but anything with a sub to replace what I have now. The ones I have now are old and warn, and make a loud crashing hiss whenever you so much as look at them wrong. I don't need 5.1 surround sound speakers, if I did I'd swap with my brother, the extra 3 speakers just get in the way, and good 2.1 system is more than enough for me.

Anything else I get would be icing on the holiday fruitcake.

However, if I may just make one wish for this holiday season, it would be: Please, oh please, let one of those great and mighty Dallas area video game development studios reply to my employment request. Even a simple 'No way kid' would suffice. Sheesh, you'd think a four-page spread in 3D World Mag of my achievements in Machinima would at least spark some interest...

Now reading: Book 7 Wheel of Time.

PS: Great news everyone! After many long months of living without the convenience of motorized transportation, I am now the proud owner of the limited edition 1998 Ford Contour SVT. There is a long and sad story about its month in the shop, sent there just days after I received it, like a 5-speed tease to my itchy drivers feet.

I’m also writing a novel, I’ll let you know when it hits the shelves.

Peace and well wishes to all.

Seems our music video/short film 'Fake Science' has been accepted for competition at the OIAF. (1-80 out of over 1900 films submitted) Keglunek and myself are preparing for our cross-country adventure to Canada (From Texas,) and where giddy as schoolgirls. We've been looking for a legitimate excuse to drive the states for a while now, and it looks like fortune has smiled on us this year!

Wish us luck! We'll need it. Some excellent films we're up against at this thing.

Well, the angel pic has officially beaten the hell out of my Chibi Yasha Wide Screen Edition, something that surprises me a great deal. I'm ultra busy with school lately, but that won't be a problem after Aug 20th. When they hand me my shiny piece of "thanks for all the money" paper. (AKA: one Associates of Applied Science degree) I’m not 100% sure what I’m going to do when I get out, but I sure as hell know what I’d like to do, and that’s open up Dead on Que Production Studio full time. It certainly has promise, I’ve worked at it for the last 5 years or so, and the press was favorable on our last project, and I have no doubt in our skills as a group. It’s just the little bit where I have to pay bills, and get a new car. Dead on Que isn’t making money right now, and it won’t until we have a new product to ship, and that’s going to take quite some time, so in the mean time I have to find some way of making money that still allows me to use my college learned skills. But that’s a discussion for another day, most likely on Aug 21st. But thanks for all those who came by to look at the angel pic, even though it’s not nearly as cool as Chibi Yasha Wide Screen, I still appreciate the interest, thanks again!

It seems that in this late hour many good things have happend. Mostly pertaining to getting my inspiration back, and having an otherwise shitty-do-nothing week(end) from being a complete and total waste. I'm not sure if it was becuase I stayed up till 5-6am, eating dinner at 1am, or just plain feeling sick, but last week blew. (The food was good, however.) I finaly got settled in 2-3 weeks ago, was working diligantly on all kinds of cool projects when suddenly all my creative energy was sapped, as though I sprung a leak in my soul. No motivation to do anything, just sit around and twittle my thumbs and wish I were making a movie. But after what seemed like the longest week of all time, I got working again late last night. I'm feeling better, I'm on my way to bed at a somewhat reasonable hour, and I owe it all to Spielberg, Lucas, Ford, and the Indiana Jones DVD box set bonus disk. My next bud will be for you!
G'night everybody!

Hey gang. (Counts two)

Been ultra busy with Keglunek this past week working on our new show. Hopefully I can start posting renders of some of the characters and sets soon. The show's the only thing keeping me sane right now.

Meanwhile, just jamming to the new Area88 OST and wishing the people around me could treat me better... Got this long time friend who means well but has no respect for, well anything. He's going through a tough time right now, and the rub-off has been driving me nuts lately, afraid I may go ballistic one of these days, then say and do things I can't take back. I'm trying to be understanding and calm, but it won't be long until I'm the one whose karma turns black as coal. I fear I may soon become a vengeful spirit.

My birthday comes up on the 31st, and I always get a bit depressed this time of year, I get caught up in nostalgia and think about those I've lost, words I didn't get the chance to say, and always decide that the only honorably way to go, is fighting to the end against all the odds. I’m tired of those around me ending their own lives because things aren’t going so well. I always feel that if they could have talked things out, they could have been saved, I’ve never turned a deaf ear on one who’s sought it. (Even the friend who’s annoying the piss out of me these past few weeks, I’m still here for him!) Only thing keeping my chin up is that show, and my kid brother’s interest in martial arts. (Has his first tournament this weekend!)
AMD XP 2800+ "Barton" (Was going to get the 2500, but had some cash left over...every chance to get a faster cpu is taken!)
MUSHKIN MEMORY 512mb @ 2700 DDR (I'll grab another stick latter for Dual Channel! Good bye render times!)

GigaByte ATI Radeon 9600se (Cheap, but effective as a good dx9 card untill DooM3 and HL2 come out, then I test the card for FPS and upgrade as nessasary and only be out 80bucks, and I'll pass it on to Keglunek, who is about to get my Gforce3 for free... err happy lan-day?!)

Seagate 120gig 7200rpm HDD (The uber one, I'll get another soon and put them on a raid array. ie: Uber freakin fast read/write times.)
My old 80gig for anime (it's already full)

Got some Inu-Yasha chibi fan art tonight, started off as something a tad more serious, when I got to the hair, I looked down at my manga, and couldn't resist!

I've never done a character "scene" before, or chibi art, or even anime in 3d. (Priss doesn't count, I think...)

I hope it turned out ok... I used some stock 3ds materials, when I make some of my own that are more suitable I'll update the pic.

Saw the Rundown again last weekend, diferent set of Friends. Still a kick ass movie. I ran around the house with two toy shotguns all weekend, screaming " Groovy" and "Come Get Some."

Gonna see Kill Bill on Friday, been dreaming of it seeing for a year or so now.

This year is kicking some major theatrical ass isn't it?

Still rendering... I'll be back... Nextime with picture!

Go Arnie, you sly dog you!

[edit]

So I did a search or two for some 3D Chibi art... nothing...
So I tried again on google, nothing...

I can't be the only one... So I'm going to go fourm hopping to find out for sure!

Wish me luck!

Yeah, I'm an Inu Yasha fan too.

I can't say "fan-boy," but the manga is the only one I own at least some of. I don't even have any comic books...

It stinks because I'm forced to rely on English translations for the manga, and Fansubs for the show. I'm so far into the show now that I fear I could never afford the entire manga.

The angsty kid in me wants a more violent Ninja Scroll take on the series, while the drama fan demands more of the mushy crap. And the art fan doesn't care about anything but Sango and Sesshoumaru's costumes.

It keeps me entertained, while I have no TV. Or I should say no signal to my TV. And it doesn't seem like it wants to end, anytime soon, so I just have to keep watching, and maybe one day, reading...

Speaking of Fansubs, I just finished Last Exile. I haven't been teary-eyed at a show's ending like that since Cowboy Bebop two-three years ago.

Man, Last Exile and GITS:SAC are going to my DVD collection ASAP.

Yeah, I've been in a slump, probably due to being sick coupled with some bad news about not getting on a DVD, and not winning at BitFilm.

So, I tried to shake it off by hosting a LAN party. It was a blast, but left me red-eyed and tired as hell.

Then, not an hour ago, I went to see The Rundown at the movies with Keglunek and his roommate Greg.
-Fucking Awsome Movie-
Maybe the movies can cure the blues, for I feel like a million bucks!
ps: If you're curious about the film we submited you can download it free here: [Link] Maybe it can cure your blues? (Or give you them...)

I found my old aim account and p/w info.. got that running again.

I also found out that I can pick the 'featured devation,' and it's not based on favorites! Silly rabit.

Otherwise I feel like shit, got a cold/sinus infection, went to sleep round seven, woke up an hour ago, and I'm going right back to sleep... after some anime.

[edit] Apparently, I'm an asshole, cuz I have almost 50 page views in my first 2-4 days. says so, so it must be true.
I've spent the day wondering back and forth between here and the kitchen table, sort of inspired by the comments system to clean up my drawing skills. (Note to self: bug Keg for pointers on Monday.)

I'm more of a copy-render type artist, new and original stuff comes easy in my head, but the transfer outward never, ever, ever looks a 10th of what I mean it to. It's very frustrating sometimes, and trying to turn that bad karma around is a lot of work. But it seems to have paid off today. (Thanks again to the comment system.)

When I get more time, and Kegs scanner, I'm going to do a 2D character based wallpaper, or something. (Inked in Illustrator, for real this time!) I've made a few character drawings today, came out way better than usual, so I'll use him as a base. (Original character, based on me, with way longer hair.)

Well, I'm off to finish that Noir film... again...

After nearly 6 months of hovering over and sholders, I've decided to open my own deviant account. I'm not a 2d artist like these guys, my focus is more on 3d, which I'm still fairly new at. Bear with me as I slowly update this thing as the weeks go on. I've got bunches of models to render out, and only so much time to render them!
