2009 is here, it has been quite a rollercoaster thus far, but what would life be if it weren't one? This is my last week of college at Brooks Institute here in Ventura, California.

On Sunday, March 1st I will have completed three years here at Brooks and will be walking with my Bachelor of Arts in Visual Journalism. Cheers to that.

Going through this college was the adventure of a lifetime. Absorbing mass amounts of information, pushing myself above and beyond my limits, I have met a fantastic assortment of people, lived alone, fell in and out of love, made big purchases, etc. This entire experience has been absolutely life-altering. Most importantly I learned more about who I was, what my values and morals are. I grew as an individual.

On to more updates,

As you may or may not have noticed I'm now shooting with a Canon 5D, unfortunately not the new MKII. Furthermore, I am typing this journal on my new laptop that arrived tonight, along with software. I snagged myself a new 15" Macbook Pro, 2.8ghz processor, 4gb of ram, 320gb hard drive. As for the software I picked up Adobe CS4 Design Premium, and Final Cut Studio 2. Yeeeeeehaw.

Finally, a brand new computer, with fully legit software. If you knew me and my...experiences with my other Macbook Pro you would be cheering for me as well.

I think I've earned this. I've done a damn good job here at school, produced a wonderful body of work, and taken in so much knowledge that will absolutely find my success in my endeavors. Now, to start looking for work as an Nature / Outdoor Adventure Journalism photographer, videographer, editor, or guide.

It's now the middle of October, and it seems that I've hit 10,000 page views. Also I'm coming to the end of another session here at school, unfortunately my Nature photo class is winding down

But I only have 4 months until I graduate, so that's good news.

It's nice to know that people are taking a liking to my work and what I do, after all my whole existence (photographically speaking) is to bring the beauty of the natural world to those who have not or cannot see it themselves.

As usual it's been a while since I've update these journals.

Looking back
I just realized I've had this account active for almost three years now...and I had my other one active for a year or two before that. Wow, Ive been on deviantART for almost 5 years. Cool.

Furthermore, after looking through some of my old journals, I also realized that I've had my Canon 20D for almost exactly three years....damn, It's time for an upgrade, no? What are you all shooting with these days?

Present
Things have been going well, I recently finished "Peregrination", an 18 minute documentary shadowing a young and inspirational long distance runner in Modesto, California. Check it out on my website

Did some light painting at a place called "Scary Dairy" in Camarillo, California last week, got one shot from it that I enjoyed. What's light painting you ask? Light painting is done in DARK locations, and is basically when you shoot with a long exposure, and literally paint specific areas with a flashlight or two, or ten.

Also we Venturians (lol?) had an AMAZING storm hit for a few hours on the wee hours of Friday the 15th and I spent an hour or two shooting with a friend, got two shots I LOVE. And it's been THREEEEE years since I last shot lightning so that felt good. Anyway check those shots out to the left.

I was able to get into the nature photography class here at Brooks Institute, so I'll be doing some camping in September and October...not exactly sure on locations yet; the Northern Cali fires might force a change of locations.

For many sports fans, New Year's Day means lounging around the living room and watching college football with a bag of potato chips.

Four people began putting their laziness to the test Tuesday in the ESPN Zone Ultimate Couch Potato Competition, which kicked off at the ESPN Zone restaurant in Times Square.

The participants, sitting in recliners in front of a dozen 42-inch high-definition plasma televisions and a couple of 14-foot HD projection TVs, will try to watch the most continuous hours of televised sports. They can order unlimited food and drinks, but can't sleep or leave their recliners except for restroom breaks once every eight hours.

They'll be shooting for the Guinness World Records mark for watching televised sports Â 69 hours and 48 minutes straight, ESPN Zone said.

"The participants will basically be competing at doing nothing," ESPN Zone regional marketing manager Susan Abramson said in a statement. "But it'll take extraordinary mental and physical stamina to endure the conditions of watching TV for that long."

The contest kicked off at 11 a.m., and all four were going strong by late Tuesday afternoon, an event spokesman said.

To get into the competition, contestants had to write 200-word essays describing why they had what it took to mash the competition and be the ultimate couch potato.

The winner will receive a prize package worth $5,000 that includes Â you guessed it Â a high-definition TV and a cozy recliner.

Been a long early morning so far, though it has been well spent researching backpacking locations for nature filming around Southern Cali; got some good plans for some 7 mile round trips, possibly going for an overnighter this weekend to start things off. Have to get in the hiking groove.

Hm.

24 hours ago I had just finished two newspaper layouts for my final project.

Late night activities indeed.

Perspectives are becoming clearer nowadays. Outside the box.
The accuracy of my horoscopes as of late have been uncanny. Interesting things to keep track of.

It will be a great trip for her and I, and I finally get to see some kickass marine and jungle life again, it's been over a year since my last dose

Things are going well in school, getting lots of A's of course.....just about to finish up my 2nd, and last Photjournalism class here at Brooks.....then I move into non-photographic methods of displaying journalism. After that I get to dive into some electives!!! That means I'll be droppin into the underwater photography course, and the nature photography course.

Another fantastic, amazing, wonderful, mind boggling piece of information that is just making my head spin with disbelief: Once I begin to develop a more professional portfolio, a few of my previous Brooks professors are going to help me get an internship with Franz Lanting, who is an AMAZING wildlife and nature photographer, which, as you all should know, is exactly what I plan on doing upon graduating from school.

Other than that....I'm going to be getting some more tattoos MAYBE later this month...it's a maybe because i'm not sure if I'm going to get them, and then risk damaging them from the gorgeous sun in Cozumel...However if I don't get them this month, I'll get 'em in January!

Woo.

That's pretty much all I've got for ya now.....spending money, enjoying life, enjoying school, kickin ass in all aspects.

Well. Today, the 2nd of August. Is the one year anniversary of the creation of this dA account, and my title of CGPhotography.

Without going into specifics, it's been a good year so far. I've advanced greatly in my photographic experience and style.

Still enjoying school, this session the most in fact. Not only have I found a great deal of confidence, but improved my workflow and organizational skills ten fold.

Speaking of school, the B&W image of the guy on the hammock was accepted and featured to the "Week In Pictures" of the NPPA - Brooks Student Chapter. Basically all the students at Brooks can submit their images to the NPPA and if the judges like it, they select it and feature it in the "Week In Pictures." So cheers to that.

For some reason I can never find a great deal of things to say in these journals, so I'll just leave it at that and move along to my favorites.

Evening everyone, haven't given you all an update in quite some time.

Well there has been quite a lot of interesting things happening recently, mainly with school and life....lots of ups, lots of downs. However, things are going really well for me right now.

I'm enjoying my new photo professor, Anacleto Rapping, along with my new math class is actually a lot of fun as well, I'm doing quite well in there.

I've been having some rough times lately, but I'm glad to say I had someone come back into my life that I don't understand how I lived without for however many months it was. I can't say a "better" person has been born, but DEFINITELY a happier, stronger, more confident person has been born thanks to her.

Anyways, I put up three photos I made for an assignment I had over the weekend, and for once I feel rather proud of these shots. I got the shots that other people passed up, and I experimented with some different angles...and most importantly, I feel that I might have finally broken the barrier of approaching the subjects from which I made a picture of and asking for their information for my captions.

Things are looking up, my work has improved dramatically, and I'm kicking ass in math for once, that's making me feel pretty damn good as well.

On the downside, *seanfl, someone I've looked up to as a photographer for a good amount of time is leaving us here on deviantART. Pay your respects!

The more I type the more I realize I'm adopting Chris Weeks' (+cweeks) style of journal entry...a kind of line by line form, as opposed to paragraphs. Minus the spunk. What can I say, I wouldn't mind growin' up to be half of what he is.

I'll end on a happy note, I'm hopefully getting a roomate for my condo.....a kitten! We'll see how things work out.

Hey everyone! I'm still alive hah, been like 2 months since I've posted a journal, just been really busy.

I finally started my first session at Brooks Institute of Photography a few weeks ago, it's amazing so far. I've been meeting a lot of new people from around the world. We have students from Minnesota, Washington, Iran, Korea, Arizona, New Mexico, Rhode Island....EVERYWHERE.: I'm at the all digital photography campus however they also do video at this campus as well. We have a gigantic sound stage and a mexican village movie set; it's like being at Universal Studios. The staff here is amazing, we have teachers who have won Pulitzer Prizes....shot for New York Times, National Geographic, LA Times, you name it, they've shot it. At my campus we have PF Bentley, who was the photographer for the Clinton administration, we also have the man who shot this image, he's made over like $900,000 on it through royalties and what not. My teachers (all 2 of them) seem cool so far, my photo teacher has been a photojournalist for 34 years and has worked with tonsss of magazines including National Geographic. My cultural studies teacher is an awesome guy as well, he's been in arts and theatre all his life, except when he was a marine.

It's amazing how much we've all learned so far, and how much further ahead of some students I find myself, there's only about 15 kids in my two classes so that makes the student-teacher relationship a lot closer. So far we've only done a few basic assignments having to do with BDE, headshots, depth of field, camera shake, and shutter speed. The school is amazing, we have a huge check out department in which I can pick from plenty of Canon or Nikon lenses to get a project done (all the way up to 400mm f/2.8 L IS USM lenses)

I'm sure you all remember hearing about the remodels of my condo, well they're pretty much all done now. All that we have left to do is replace the sliding glass door and the bedroom windows. It's been an amazingly long process, contractors are a pain in the ass!

Well everyone....the date is January 24th, 2006, and in about 8 or 9 days I'll be packing up all my stuff, and moving to my new condo in Ventura, CA to attend Brooks Institute of Photography. I won't be starting until March 10th or so, but in the time between moving in and Session 1 I'll be driving around the city and finding the local hotspots, goin to the beach, etc etc. This condo was complete trash when we got it, it was built in the mid 70's, so it still had those off-yellow appliances as you saw in my "The Stove" picture. For the past few months my mom has been working with contractors non stop on remodeling, not to mention making frequent visits to the condo (2 hours north of where we live) to check the progress. She is up there right now, and it's about 85% complete. She and I completely demolished the bathrooms...I took the sink and vanity (the wall unit the sink sits on) out, and she scraped the old wallpaper off the walls. So we're doing a lot of small things like installing medicine cabinets, hallway lights and toilets....but the rest is up to the contractors. As of now the bathrooms have been completely remodeled minus the toilets which we are installing ourselves....I believe it's all been painted now as well, and last but not least, the hardwood floors are going in this week....then I move in. The only thing that won't be completed is the kitchen, all the new appliances will be there, but we're refacing the drawers and everything, putting in a new countertop, all that crap.

I do have before pictures and I will be taking after pictures so you all can see the work we've done!

I'm so excited. My own place, two bedroom two bath all to myself and my photography. I've got wayyy cool artwork and furniture coming in as well. I designed it (with the assistance of my mom of course) in a futuristc / modern / minimalistic style. Basically it breaks down to: a lot of black (furniture / appliances), and then a light maple hardwood floor, with charcoal walls, and most important, brushed nickel....brushed nickle furnite legs, chairs, etc etc. Oh oh oh, and my favorite, that icy blurred glass stuff, I have a lot of that. An example of what the style of my place kind of looks like can be found here. That 3D Render done by ~kehaola is amazing, I love alllll the work he does, it's all modern and odd colored / shaped, exactly my style! You'll have to excuse my rambling, I'm just extremely excited.

Hi everyone!

It's been a longgg time since I've posted anything, i've just been really busy working on my condo (more on that later) and working

Well I quit work due to the fact that I'm moving in 3 weeks to my condo in Ventura. I was up there last week tearing out sinks, countertops and toilets; rather fun if you ask me....Hardwood floors get installed in like 2 weeks, bathrooms will be done by then, and appliances will be delivered...and then I'll move in. Don't start school till March though.

Tuesday night was another Cydne Raven show, first show that I've shot in a few weeks so I was glad to do it. Scars of Tomorrow played as well, but I decided not to get shots of them.

Other than that, there's not too much going on, haven't put a good quality new pic of myself up on myspace for a while, so that place has been kinda dead lately.....oh well, I'll take some next week or somethin.

Good evening folks. How are you all doin? Just figured I'd post somethin new to update my profile somewhat, considering I haven't uploaded a picture in a while. Just been really busy and haven't shot any shows.

Good news though:

1) Got a job
2) Shooting Cydne Raven (Friends band) at House of Blues in Anaheim, CA on Sunday the 20th...........HUGE venue, the biggest one I've shot, so I'm WAY stoked!.

So yeah, I'm working at Express now. If you don't know what that is.....just think of....Armani Exchange, Abercrombie & Fitch, Rampage, Banana Republic, etc etc. Had my first day today, very cool...awesome staff, awesome environment, all around fun. Time to bring in the money!

Sadly....that's about all I've got to say right now

so I'll just send it off to the favorites section, enjoy and good night!

Evening all, fantastic storm happening here right now.....well actually it's somewhat dead now

As usual, Southern California storm lasting a whopping one day. I did manage to pop off another lightning picture though, it can be found here.

I still haven't found a job, purchased my Canon i9900 printer, or the Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L lens, ugh!

In lighter news, some friends of mine that are in a band just had their CD release show, full length 14 songer! And guess what, some of the pictures I took of them are on the front, back, and middle of EVERY one of their CDs. Not only that, one of them is also on the back of their T-shirts that will be sold at every show

BUT here's the kicker......I didn't receive ANY recognition or royalties for my work....that's right, no credit in their CD booklet or anything.....But before you get all pissed off at them, like I did......know that it was an accident...a pretty shitty accident, but an accident nonetheless. My name was put in there, but somehow got removed....so, god damn

G'morning all

Things are going fantastic, my new lightning picture, Tempest is getting a lot of feedback, it feels fantastic, thank you all so much! I hope there are more to come.

My mom's printer broke down recently, so she's going to take mine, and upgrade me to a new photo printer...I'm going for the Canon i9900 for around $420, can't wait! With this, I'll have to get a new monitor and some color calibration equipment. Time to get rid of this 3 year old 17" Compaq and go to a new 20" LCD or 21" CRT, anyone have any comments on using LCDs to edit photos and do some gaming? Looking at the 20" Samsung 204T LCD right now for $550.

I'm also looking for working right now too, need to get some money so I can buy the 16-35mm f/2.8L...I had been hoping to work for this one company and shoot at night clubs, but as of now it looks as if that idea's gone to the shitter. So I think I might head over to Best Buy or perhaps Armani Exchange like I had originally planned.

My mom and I are attending a private cocktail party / fashion show fund raiser at a new Nordstroms that is opening up...we also get to do some shopping, all before the store even opens!! Going to be awesome, high class well dressed people, fashion fashion fashion.

Last August (2004) when I was on the Big Island I realized I loved photography, and now Im obviously starting a career in it and will go to school for it, this time on Kauai I realized how much Ive matured and re-found my love for fantasy books..well see if that holds up. Lastly, I realized how much I LOVE the beach; as soon as I get home I want to take up body boarding again, going to go crazy this time, good board, fins, the works. Overall I had an absolutely amazing vacation with my mom. We bonded and found SO many things out about each other, and did new things together numerous times. From snorkeling, to shopping, to tanning, to MaiTai-ing, and then simply driving around the island taking pictures, we did it all.

Things I did without for 2 weeks

Day One (8/20/05)
Arrived at our Koloa Plantation condo in Poipu and unpacked
Poipu Beach: 3 hours
o Tanned
o Tried out new snorkel gear
o Sliced foot on rock
Watched sunset on beach

Day Two (8/21/05)
Poipu Beach: 2 ½ hours
o Snorkeling with fins this time
o Rode the waves
o Tan surfer girl booty scopin
2 mile hike:
o Maha`ulepu beach
* Hiked lithified lava cliffs
* Ha`ula beach
* Walked around Kawailoa Bay

Day Three (8/22/05)
Poipu Beach: 2 hours
o Snorkeling
Road trip to Kipu Falls
o Watched Natives / tourists cliff dive & rope jump from falls
Road trip to Menehune Ancient fishpond
o Great panoramic shots
Road trip to Wailua Falls
o Hopped a fence w/ a Keep Out sign to get closer for pictures

Day Four (8/23/05)
Tired as a mofo, slept in..way in.
Road trip to Shipwrecks Beach
o Hiked around the cliffs, reaaallly windy
o Talked to some Hawaiians fishing off the cliff
Poipu Pool: 1 Hour
Road trip to Spouting Horn
o Watched waves shoot mist 20 in the air out of a hole in the ground

Day Five (8/24/05)
Woke up to a power outage, no toast for me

Road Trip to Waimea Canyon
o Drove along the coast, then up the mountains, AMAZING views
o Rainy at times
o Sat in the grass and took pictures of Roosters and Hens
o Drove to top of the mountain and stood on a cliff at the edge of the island looking over the Na Pali coast

Day Six (8/25/05)
Poipu Beach: 2 hours
o Little bit of snorkeling
o Tanning
o High tide, water came to the top of the beach and buried my towel in sand
o Completely sunny, 88 degrees or so, but out of no where it started raining for about 10 minutes; very cool

Day Seven (8/26/05)
Road trip to Kee Beach
o Tanning
o 2 hours of snorkeling
Most AMAZING snorkeling ever

Soooo, tomorrow morning my mom and I leave for Hawaii, Kauai to be exact. For two weeks! We're going kayaking...and and hiking...and and and, snorkling, and tanning! Woooo!!

I'll be sure to take tons of pictures, too bad I don't have underwater housing and a 24-70 f2.8 L lens

Oh well, enjoy the next two weeks people, I know I will. Leave me lots of love for when I get back!!

So today I went to Canon's repair department and picked up my 550EX flash which had broken last week, yay!

Also bought $100 Altec Lansing headphones for Counter-Strike lol, oh boy.....I'm gonna take them back and get the $39.99 model instead though, just isn't worth it to spend $100.

Also bought the new Silverstein CD, loving it so far!

Anddd I bought Battlefield 2....wow it's intense! Awesome radio commands and weapons and physics.

I'm also taking my deviations out of storage today....I've done my part, I'm just going to wait and see what the outcome is of `justthorne's plan.

So two nights ago my 550EX was snapped off my 20D.......took it to Canon today, and I won't have it for 7-10 business days.

This is really great considering I had a show to shoot at on the 13th and 15th, and I'm going to Hawaii for 2 weeks on the 19th. They aren't sure if I'll even have it back by then.

So I'm really not in the mood to take pictures right now, meaning I most likely won't have any new pictures until after Sept 3rd when I get back from Hawaii.

Oh boy, what great timing.

Today is Yellow Day.....August 7th 2005, deviantART is now five years young

....let's keep her here.

As you all should know, °jark, a co-founder of deviantART was recently fired, for reasons unknown..I'm assuming it was a difference of views between $spyed and °jark as to the way DA should be run. This is what spyed has to say about the situation...and here's a copy of an e-mail from jark to mccann and a summary of it, thanks to *loish for the links.

We want answers, and we will get them! But in a PEACEFUL manner, sport your yellow gear. Let's stand strong for °jark and bring him back!

We need to take back our COMMUNITY. Because that's exactly what it is.....OURS. °jark and °matteo brought this community to us, for us. Keep your chin up, show support for our Yellow Alien!

So all I'm asking is that you don't submit anything on this day; Yellow Day, unless it is YELLOW! or jark related! Along with that we, as a community must stop the abuse, the threats, and all the hating....where is the love?

Yes, this is my new account. My old account (WhileInSilence) is still active but I wanted a new name. Something that was more professional and fit my flourishing photography career; Thus we have CGPhotography

But ughhh, now I have to start ALLLL my page views / comments / favorites over....grrr! Oh well, it was nice to re-create my gallery, I got rid of all my old photos and just put my most prized ones up

So yeah, as you all know, I got my 20D last week.

And this afternoon my LumiQuest 80/20 adapter arrived, thanks to =JeremySaffer for pushing me to buy it. It's AMAZING! I can't wait to shoot with it at the next show I'm going to, or photoshoot.
