"Yeah!" Jimmy cried in response, laughing and smacking him hard in the back for encouragement? Reassurance? No one really knows. "Yeah, it's the best place in town!"
"I hope they've got good drinks," Tricky muttered, smiling and rolling his dark eyes.
"Oh, they do! Jose O'Flanagan's is the greatest in every way." Jimmy seemed completely confident with this aptly named restaurant, and his dark violet eye stopped upon a busty waitress leaning over a table. He grinned and elbowed Phoenix lightly, gesturing. "Check that out."
Phoenix, in turn, raised a brow. "Wow."
"Oh, please, you straight guys." Tricky took a seat in one of the tables. "Don't get whiplash."
Jimmy and Phoenix sat at the table, grinning with amusement. "Man, that girl's tits were huge," Jimmy noted distastefully, his eyes still skimming over her figure.
"Like you have any restraint, Tricky," Phoenix pointed out, smirking and looking to the accused. "For you, the gender's just reversed."
His smirk faded, however, when he saw Tricky's eyes and his wolfish smile. "You're right, Phoenix," Tricky responded, cocking a brow.
And then Tricky was left alone, to relish in the near silence and cold beer.

Penance, the noble assassin, looked across the field to the steadfast, red-haired queen. She could read her thoughts, hear her mind, and it was so sweet.

Penance blinked violet eyes in shock. "Wait, why'd I challenge you in the first place? I don't even know you."

"Give it back!" She lunged, but he merely teleported to the other side of the room, continuing his inspection.
"That's a bummer." He tapped the surface of the laptop. "I should keep this."

I'm excited for summer break. I have a feeling this summer is gonna be intense. Dramatic, I guess. That might be a bad thing, though.

I am not alone, however, my mother peacefully asleep in the room only one door away from my seated position on the suede couch in the TV room. Thoughts of my very best friends, of whom I believe to be life-long sisters, cross my mind. My friends, my parents, my family... the other three billion people in the universe. I'm not alone. That's foolish.

It's warm in this room - I like it, despite how my mother constantly pleads for me to turn down the thermostat. I'm always cold, always. Always bundled in jackets and jeans. I'd rather always be cold than always be hot, I suppose, but it still sucks.

My tired eyes flicker across the black-and-white-themed room. It's very quaint and tidy, which is surprising for our little household we have here: our house is never clean; we hired a maid, and she did an excellent job. If it weren't for my stuttering any time I try to speak to her, then I would thank her. I only stutter because she speaks very little English, and when I say something, she asks me very calmly to repeat it, about four times. I'm always so embarrassed to speak around her, which is rather confusing, because I'm sure she's much more embarrassed than I am.

I feel alone with the knowledge I am not alone for one solitary reason: I have three homes.

My mother's house for two weeks, my father's for another two, and then Nicole's.

I live at Nicole's house only because I go there every day after school. Every day without fail, unless I miss school that day or she doesn't want me there, which is rare. The only time that's happened is when her grandmother, (affectionately called 'Bachan' because of the family's potent Japanese heritage), was there and is easily unnerved by strangers. I love being there. The atmosphere is so comfortable, but cold, always very cold. How ironic that their whole family would always be warm when I am always cold. A constant reminder that I'm not related, I guess, because I frequently forget.

My mother's jealous of this particular attention I've been receiving from Nicole's parents, understandably so - she's my mother, after all. Not Nicole or her mother. I understand this, and it pleases me, actually. I feel like more of a roommate with this realization, and it amuses me. (I fantasize about college with Nicole and Emily, a small apartment and crazy cooking catastrophes. Thank you for noting my alliteration.)

My father, on the other hand, loves it. His friends in middle school and high school weren't what one could call trustworthy or good influences. He's happy that my judgment on people and decisions are satisfactory. I've never done drugs, never smoked a cigarette, never drank alcohol of my own free will, never had sex. I'm fifteen, and better off than he was at that age. He's right to believe that Nicole is a wonderful influence on me in that respect. My mother is convinced, however, that her influence is only depressing me.

I must admit, she is a rather depressed person. Her life isn't all roses and pheromones, either. She wouldn't want me to go into detail, so I won't. She has a realistic, although sometimes bitter outlook on things. I guess my mother doesn't really like it. She's optimistic, yet depressed.

I think the things that truly influences my morose state is the fact that I've always been realistic, always cynical. I look at my reflection in the mirror and watch as my face ages, my clothes change, my happiness fades with my smidgeon of beauty that I possess. In twenty years, I see myself alone. In and out of marriages, owning one or two children, both with different fathers, putting on weight, and dying when I'm seventy or so with only my successful, married friends and some remants of family to see me off.

But I'm rambling, now aren't I?

I feel alone because I live at Nicole's house, but I should live at my parents'. I got Nicole in trouble with her mother because I was irritated with her litle sister.

Oh. I thought since I came here every day and I was known as 'the adopted daughter' around the house, I might be allowed to say, "Katie, stop that" when she does something wrong. I suppose not.

Oh, right! I DON'T live there. They aren't my family. I keep forgetting that trivial detail.

I feel like all I do is get Nicole in trouble. Maybe I shouldn't go to her house anymore. It might be the best for both of us. Hm.

But if I do leave and never come back except on weekends, I would really have no home. None whatsoever. My parents' houses are merely a form of lodging and brief security, despite how much they love me, how much I love them, and how much I know that they'll come when I call.

If I stay, I'll simply keep quiet. Trouble trying to rename herself through silence. How poetically bittersweet.
