I looked at my journal and realized that I REALLY needed to update...

I'm back in school. It feels great! I'm going for my Bachelors in Psychology, but right now only electives are being offered, so I'm taking an Art History class and a Dynamics of Adult Living class, which is a Psych elective where we learn about growing old. Fun. *note the sarcasm*

I'm a writer. It's who I am. An artist too, but mainly a writer. I've kinda been on hiatus for a bit, as my muse decided to run away. But now that she's discovered that I'm the only one who feeds her those yummy PB&J sandwiches, she's starting to show up a bit more. I've started a short story series, which will hopefull be uploaded to soon. Love's Flame is the first. I'm not sure how many there will be, but I'm working on the second.

Home life: not so good. But getting better. We'll see how things go.

On an uplifting note, my fiance and I finally set a wedding date! 15 September 2010!! And we're hoping to get married in the same place we got engaged: EPCOT! I can't wait to be married... It will be so nice to finally have him here permanantly. This long distance thing is really starting to suck.

Dia dhuit, mho caras!

Everyone loves features, right? I certainly do!
I do a unique kind of feature every Tuesday, and I'd like to invite you all to be a part of it. It's called Artist Connections, and it's hosted at a wonderful place called Harmony Pub.

About Harmony Pub
Legacy Writers of Harmony Pub is a MySpace poetry group, full of writers helping writers to succeed. We don’t feel that you have to be college educated to have something to say. Everyone is more than welcome to participate in any of our challenges, workshops, or discussions.

Our goal is to build a legacy of writing that we’d be proud for our family and friends to read. You won’t find slam poetry on this site, or pornography. We do not discriminate against any writing, however, this site is not for that purpose. We do not engage in hate writing of any kind. We do not discriminate against people of color or nationality, people with disabilities or anyone! We believe that everyone has value and we would like to meet you and share your thoughts with you. Writing from the heart is what we’re about.

You will be able to meet many published writers here. They will be happy to talk to you about their work. In addition, some of our Legacy Writers are also artists, photographers and song writers.

So, come in, have a seat by the fire and enjoy an ale or two. Share with us your poetry in the true bardic tradition. Make a friend or two, and enjoy your stay!

Artist Connections
Our Pub hosts and patrons are full of many wonderful and creative talents, and some of us don the title of Artist as well as Legacy Writer. We feel that art, as well as literature, is an important creative outlet, and as such, we encourage it whole-heartedly. Therefore, in an effort to promote the beauty of creative expression, we have incorperated an Artist Feature as a part of our Tuesday challenges, entitled Artistic Connections

Every week, we will choose an artist either from MySpace or deviantART(dA) and feature a few pieces of their work. The challenge is to write based on the works that we feature, thus combining a picture challenge with a featue. Of course, we strongly encourage the patrons to visit the artist's gallery and enjoy more of their beautiful work than what we feature at the challenge. The pieces featured are always linked back to their page on dA, and there is always a link directly to the artist's homepage and gallery.

Our hope is that Artistic Connections will continue to draw a new crowd into the Pub, create a lasting cooperation between MySpace and dA, as well as supply the variety that our patrons crave. The goal at the Pub has always been to encourage and support literature and the arts in any way possible, and we believe that this could be the start of something grand!

What to Join Us?
We would love to feature any of you who are willing to have your work posted outside of dA. As previously mentioned, all featured pieces are linked back to their dA pages, and there are direct links to both the artist's homepage and their gallery. We never post a feature without the consent of the artist, and we are happy to work within limitations and rules of any stock used in the featured artwork. For a reference of what one of our challenges look like, we invite you to check out today's feature: Artist Connections for 3 Feb 09. Please consider becoming one of our featured artists...
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

So, my Operation Holiday Greetings Contest officially ended at 11.59pm, 23 December 2008. I want to thank everyone who participated... not only those who entered, but the donators too. I couldn't have made this happen without you all! You're so talented, and I'm blessed to know you! Choosing a winner was NOT easy!!

I wanted to present the winners today - on Christmas - as a gift. Something to add to the celebrations. I hope you are all able to feel as blessed as I do this year. It's been fabulous.

So, without further ado, LET'S ANNOUNCE THOSE WINNERS!!!

1st Place
Magical Night contest entry by ~RiNymph

A visually striking piece, with a beautiful and heartfelt message to a friend. A MUST SEE in full view... so many lovely details! This piece stuck with me for a few reasons. It's a cheerful image, and it's obvious that a lot of work went into airbrushing this. The lighting is done very well, and the concept is lovely. Secondly, the background is worked in as a part of the image. It's not flashy or overdone, but it fits perfectly with the postcard image and is simple yet beautiful.

2nd Place
Run with the Wind by ~PearlofFlame

This piece was one of traditional artwork... which was an element I hadn't expected. I know I listed that ALL medias were welcome except literature, but honestly, I expected to have a gallery full of digital. I was pleasantly surprised to see this gem in my box! The colouring is beautifully done... Another MUST SEE in full view. A stunning background is used in this piece as well... Just enough to make the postcard pop.

3rd Place
Quilted Tree Card by =vhartley

Thi piece impressed me because of its simplicity, and its deviation from the artist's norm. This artist usually does complex abstract vector designs... Patterns under certain themes. What she presented in this postcard image was a stretch for her imagination, in a "simple and elegant" way. It has a bit of old world charm to it, and the simplicity adds to the beauty of the piece.

Honourable Mention
Second postcard entry by ~k-ossuburb

This piece struck me in its originality. While its violent nature prevented me from putting it in the top three, I felt it worth mentioning, as it is most certainly a greeting (though perhaps one you might not wish to receive) and it falls into a category that no one could repeat. It was clever and creative, and I salute the artist's honest attempt to make an impression.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WINNERS!!!
Let's remind them what they've won!!

1ST PLACE
- Dedicated personal banner (750x200 pixels)
-Journal feature
-Custom Icon and Artist of the Month feature from =BloodAppleKiss
-Photomanipulation and journal feature from =brennaburk111805
-Photomanipulation from ~YellowMouse
-Exclusive stock pack from *Paintedonmysoul
-Exclusive stock pack from =IWS-stock
-Exclusive stock pack from *auror...

Dia dhuit, mho caras! I've decided to host a contest... My first ever!

OPERATION HOLIDAY GREETINGS

Opening Date: 19 November 2008
Closing Date: 23 December 2008, 11:59pm EST USA

Everyone loves the holidays! I know there are a lot of holiday contests going on, but I'm offering a twist... I challenge you to come up with a Holiday postcard.

RULES:
1. Create the art for the "front" of the postcard, and the greeting for the "back", including the address lines. (**See sample postcard**)
2. Artwork must be original.
3. NO OLD ART!! Artwork must be created on or after 19 November 2008.
4. You must use the following template to create the postcards: [link] Download for full view, although when you upload your final piece, you may size it as you see fit. You can turn the postcards sideways if you want to use a vertical piece of art, or you can turn the postcards if you'd like to create a more striking visual presentation. (Look at sample for example.)
5. Feel free to decorate the background as well!
6. Feel free to use any stock items you would like, but please CREDIT ALL STOCK THAT YOU USE! (*That includes my template!*) Follow the rules of the stock provider.
7. You must link back to this journal entry in your Artist's Comments, stating that your piece has been entered in this contest.
8. All art mediums are welcome, except for literature.
9. ONLY 2 ENTRIES PER DEVIANT.
10. Those donating prizes ARE still eligible to submit entries.

Sample postcard: [link]
I've had one or two people complain that this contest may be too difficult based on the premise that not everyone can make a postcard. This is why I created the template and gave you an example. It's really not that difficult to make a piece of art and then paste it onto the template. It's all about creativity... That's what will make your piece stand out.

SUBMITTING:
Send your submission to me in a note, with a link to your piece.

ENTRIES:
Entries will be displayed in the following collection: [link]

JUDGES:
Just me!

PRIZES:

1ST PLACE
- Dedicated personal banner (750x200 pixels)
-Journal feature
-Custom Icon and Artist of the Month feature from =BloodAppleKiss
-Photomanipulation and journal feature from =brennaburk111805
-Photomanipulation from ~YellowMouse
-Exclusive stock pack from *Paintedonmysoul
-Exclusive stock pack from =IWS-stock
-Exclusive stock pack from *auroradreams
-2 week feature from =Jaras-angel
-2 week feature from *Janorien
-1 week feature from =vhartley
-Journal feature from =Tammara
-Journal feature from =moroka323
-Journal feature from =Masterwks
-Journal feature from *dianar87

2ND PLACE
-Dedicated personal banner (750x200 pixels)
-Journal feature
-Exclusive stock pack from *auroradreams
-Journal feature from =brennaburk111805
-2 week feature from =Jaras-angel
-2 week feature from *Janorien
-1 week feature from =vhartley
-Journal feature from =Tammara
-Journal feature from =moroka323
-Journal feature from =Masterwks
-Journal feature from *<a class="u" href="http:...

Non-graphic work (such as poetry) may be considered if it concerns the heart itself, but The-Heart is not primarily concerned with the promotion of love poetry.

The-Heart club is not your regular theme club. The volunteers and friends work hard at promoting that lovely little organ that keeps us alive. We not only involve our members in activities, but we also invite the dA Community at large to get involved by helping us collect heart theme deviations, or "Found Hearts"; and we also include non-members in our various features and weekly polls. If you are a lover of the heart and you enjoy including heart shapes in your deviations, this club is right for you!

Celtic-Dreaming is a club inspired by all things Celtic and is here to inspire and support artists of all types that share this vision. This is a society based on each individual’s desire to be better, or improve in any way possible, big or small. Because we have many members of many levels of experience and skill, we, first, hope that each member will be able to learn something. Second, we hope that artists who deserve more attention then they are receiving will be better appreciated through this Society. Thirdly, we hope that members will learn something about the world around them from the monthly articles published by Administrators and/or, hopefully, our Writers, which they otherwise would not have known.

This Society is open to anyone and everyone who is an artist—and by artist we mean all kinds: painter, drawer, writer, illustrator, photographer, and hopefully musicians (though we think this might be a little tricky)—and art appreciators—by appreciators we mean people who might not have much skill but still have a passion and love for the arts.

________________________________________________________________________

COMMUNITY PROJECTS

You must know the proverb that says "A picture is worth a thousand words".
Lately I've been having a lot of fun with silhouette pieces. From romantic pieces to nature pieces to some Biblical representations, it's been a lot of fun, and I'm looking forward to making more. I want to thank all the artists who have put together silhouette brushes and features to help with the creative ideas for my wallpapers. I couldn't do it without you!

In many ways, I'm stil a newbie with Photoshop pieces. I still have a lot to learn about the program, and what I am capable of. Thanks to all you who have posted tutorials... I've learned a lot from you all, and hope to continue learning!

In other news, I've been asked to join the Society of Artists and Art Appreciators. [link] It's good to find a group of artists committed to not only helping each other to grow as artists but also as people. I look forward to participating and interacting with this marvelous group of people.

More later.
~Toiréasa

OK, so 8 months on deviantART, and I've made it past 200 deviations! A little depressing that I've only gotten about 1050 views, but 201 deviations... I say that's reason to celebrate!

So, as you may or may not have noticed, I've been working on a small series called LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD. This is all based on the incredible conference that I went to this past weekend, called Acquire the Fire. I was an adult leader on our church's youth trip to this year's conference, which entailed 5 minivans, 30 teenagers, window paint, 5 bands, 3 speakers, 500 youth groups, and an arena full of 10,000 Jesus lovers... I have one word for you: AMAZING! Exhausting, but amazing!

The theme for the weekend was "Let Your Voice Be Heard", and it was all about the fact that we as human beings and Children of God have the right to let our voices be heard. We have opinions, we have beliefs, and we have infinite possibilities at our disposal to share them. It's time for this generation to show what we're made of! It's time for us to make a difference!

To quote Steve Fee...

WE ARE THE REDEEMED
WE ARE THE ONES WHO ARE FREE
AND WE BELONG TO JESUS!
WE ARE NOW ALIVE
AND IN THIS WORLD WE WILL SHINE
'CAUSE WE BELONG TO JESUS!
