Second the Candian Ultimate Nationals are coming up next weekend and I will be heading down with my university!

Oh but sad news. Today I found out Chris Penn died yesterday and he was an actor in one of my favorite movies Reservoir dogs. I mean he was not an amazing actor but he was GREAT in Reservoir dogs. I feel sorry for all of his family and firends... and he was only 43!

It was the We Are Scientist concert and they we really really good! I had actually never heard of them until I went to the concert but my friend told me they were good and BOY WAS HE RIGHT! Either way I am so getting their cd now!

Also there were two other bands. The more local Band called the Diablos I think... but they were really good. The other band was Oxford Explosion which was We Are Scientist's touring partners and I liked them a whole lot.

All in all it was quite an enjoyable concert in which I enjoyed all the bands that played. But in other news I have picked up 6 cd's in the last three days and found out that the band Metric kicks!!! Man I love them right now... but here are the cd's I got

First I got these three for 30 bucks

I also picked this up for 9 bucks

(they are a eairly 70's proto punk/glam band that along with Iggy Pop & The Stooges, and MC5 helped pave the way for Punk in general)

UGH!!! I was kicking myself the WHOLE way home!

On another note I also watched Mulhollan drive. Let my just tell you. That movie makes you think. I mean its like CRAZY! And your left wondering what was real and what was fake. It forced me to go on the internet and check out the many theories on the movie. (this btw was like one of the 15 or so movies I have watched in the past week or so)

UC (my college's team) finishes second overall in our division which is quite good actually! Although we lost, I had a blast this season. My team is GREAT, they are all fun to play with. And we improved so much from last year (2 wins, no playoffs).

Actually now that I think of it.. we had an amazing season... we only lost ONE game all season, the final playoff game..(I mean how many teams can say that?) and we played damn hard throughout the whole season. We were grinding it out all season, often having only a few sub's.

Either way, this more than makes up for my other playoff experance with my bad summer team *I was on two* Funky Hustle who lost EVERY game in the playoffs... And my good team the Flying Chauchers (I LOVE that pun lol Chalk it up to my good friend and Captain Brad) who could not go to the playoffs because of University.

Well.. if you guys didn't know I am an Ultimate Frisbee Player!
No I am not jokeing, and yes its a real sport in my books lol! Either way I have my University Inturmural playoffs Sunday (which is actually right now as I am writing this journal at 2:00 am).

Yah I would really like to win because over the summer my one team SUCKED in the playoffs ....we didn't win a game .... and the other team with all my friends on it could not get into playoffs because people had to go off to University!!!!! GER!!! And that team was good too I mean we went up two divisons and lost like 4 games all summer!!! So I want this one to count!

Well my College team (my University is seperated into College's like the British system) is actually really good... 7-0!!! But still often the best team chokes in the playoffs so WISH ME LUCK!!!!

The Doors, The Smiths, The Clash, The Ramones, Joy Divison, New Order, Depeshe Mode, Nirvana, The Cure, Iggy Pop & the Stooges, MC5, The Jam, REM, Smashing Pumpkins the list is endless of bands that I like from the past. All of these bands are amazing ... but they are all way before my time.

I feel like I have not other choice then look to the past for good music. I mean popular music is all basicly the same thing repackaged with a different bow on top (but don't get me wrong there is lots of popular music I will listen to and I love Franz Ferdinand). You get someone like lets say a Pearl Jam... the Record companies see their popularity so they make clone band. Boom up pops Creed, Nickleback, Theory of a Death Man etc. The list goes on and on.

I think what music is largely missing today is innovation and a real message. Music today says nothing about life or how society is developing (and there is so much to talk about. you need to look for a select few artists to find these messages for example Green Day, Keanue West (even though he is a complete jerk), formally the Beasty Boys but there time has past, and K-OS. This is quite a small pool to draw from. You than get stinkers like Simple Plan and Good Charolette who pretend to have a message but are just told what to say by their record producers. I mean during the era of Punk, and the Nam music MEANT something... today music seems to mean nothing more than a means to the ends of getting more money(now I am not saying this wasn't true back then lol).

Concerning innovation there are so few groups that I find very innovative in the main stream. I find The Streets (who is really one man Mike Skinner) very innovative as well as more arty/alternative bands like Interpol, The Strokes, and Franz Ferdinand (sorry I just love them lol), also rock bands like Queens of the Stone Age, the Foo Fighters, and the Darkness. Other than that are not as mainstream to find some good inovative music. For example T.V. on the Radio, Dogs Die in Hot Cars, The Futureheads, and The Shins.

Music genre's like Emo/Screamo have some good bands but it is so bogged down with copy cats that they get masked. For example I like My Chemical Romance but there are so many bands out there that look and sound the same I begin to resent all Emo. Plus there is only so much crying on the microphone that I can take lol (just kidding). Also new metal like your Linkin parks and System of a Down etc. has some good stuff but has the exact same problem as Emo (not to mention after a while all Linkin park songs sound the same...). Rap today also often suffers from the same problems. You have some innovators and the rest just steal from this small pool.

Well thats my Rant about music...... people out here probley don't agree with all I have said but... these are my music views and different music is for differnt people. Also one more thing.... I DO NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEM WITH PEOPLE LIKING EMO...music speaks differently to everybody. I would never want to perscribe my music views on others. If you like emo, you like it ... it just does not speak to me in general. I would never want to say that my music is better than yours.

Music is what YOU make and in no place do I have the right to say what you should or should not listen to. I mean the consumption of booze before the dancing probely added in the overall experance and made it easier for me to dance (although I am a dancing machine)

Also the coolest part of the night was the fact that the club played JOY DIVISON - TRANSMISSION and than followed that up with The Smiths - Panic! These are two of my favorite bands and are not traditionally "club" music so I was in a state of bliss.

The only down side was the fact that I tripped on something (be it a foot or a beer bottle) and I twisted my ankle BADLY although I sucked it up and kept dancing! However I was limping around after the club and all day today. Add to that when I was walking over to my friends rez (because I had class at 10:00am and it would have made no sense for me to go home and the subways stop running at 1:30am) I think I went into a form of shock because I was freezing cold and felt like I was going to die.

Despite all of this it was a good night... got my "groove on" lol and I won some free ticket to an event at the same club next friday!

3) Thrusday is suppost to be some "frosh leader party" now there is a good chance it will suck but seening as my parents are going on a trip I can don't have my parents in my hair for a WHOLE DAY!

4) on friday its drinking with my friends... man I have wanted to do this for a long time but seening as I was the last 18 year old I had to wait it out... finally I can soke in the bar atmosphere... which I probley should not soke unless I want a rash lol...
