It's been a while... This time, I was able at last to FINISH something, which is a premiere since... early 2005 !!! My last complete drawing is the one I uploaded here almost 5 years ago. Incredible but true. That's why I wasn't really able to come back to deviantart.
I can see that the website has changed a bit, but most of the artists I was watching at the time are still there creating great work ! As for me, I will continue to try to improve my technique and work on my flaws (I know most of them). And I will try to finish my works and move on to the next one even if I'm not satisfied, which is the most difficult thing to do.

I've been very busy these days (full-time job + journalism) and OF COURSE I haven't had time to draw... I should have more time next month, even though there is the Deauville Asian Film Festival from 8 March to 12 March... !
My last finished drawing was more than 1 year ago. I want to draw something soon... especially since I'm watching a lot of animes (for my work as a journalist, hehe, no kidding) !

Here is what happened. I was having a look at some videos I had saved and dropped by 2 AMV from the anime "Weiss Kreuz" (hehe, I know...). One of those was a real videoclip ('Tokyo Sling', good video) made specially for the anime and the other one was made by somebody unknown hidden behind a pseudo...

This videoclip was called "New Year" and the song was really VERY cool but I had no idea what it was and... the credits seemed to indicate that it was a Russian song !! The problem was that it was written in Russian... So I started my researches and found some clues on a Russian anime website. But everything was written in cyrillic... !! Well, I won't explain the detail of my investigation but after a while I learnt that the band was called "Agata Kristi" (Агата Кристи and the song was "Noviy God" from the album Pozornaya zvezda.

Eventually, after a loooooooong time I could find out where to download the song. I found this Russian mp3 website and guess what ?... You can download all the songs there for $0.10 ! and one entire album for less than $2.00 !! Even Western albums. Nothing to do with the very high prices on the French internet (0.99 euros for one song and 9.99 euros for one album !!!!).

It's time to write a new journal, even if there is few to say ! My last journal entry is dated January 2005, hum.. a long time ago, so to speak.

As I told some of you, I've been drawing all this time.. Yes, I've been drawing a lot, but nothing has been showable during all these months, unfortunately.
I've been through what you might call "the artist blues", and this difficult period has been lasting for about 6 months, which is much more than I could imagine when it started.

But along with the good weather, my hopes seem to get brighter and I hope to present something new very soon and resume with my past stakhanovist rhythm of drawing !
I'm about to buy the graphic tablet of my dreams, maybe this will help (although I know the technique cannot help in such cases, lol).

In the meantime, I've been 47 times to the theater since the beginning of 2005. I'm about to break my record this year, that is to say a record of 100 movies (in 2001) !

Last but not least : tomorrow, May 11, is my BIRTHDAY !

Why talking about Danny the Dog ? Because I'm about to discover it this evening for the first time.

The shooting took place exactly 2 years ago, and I was an Assistant-Director trainee in the Second Unit, directed by Yuen Wo Ping. Yes I had the huge chance to witness this great director/choreographer work every day. But I have seen nothing of the drama scenes that I've heard some good about..

The answer will be tonight at 10:30 pm (French time) when the movie ends. I'm expecting a lot from Jet's dramatic performance.

Sorry if I haven't been updating a lot these past weeks. I've been drawing a lot, but mainly practising (anatomy), because I realised I seriously needed to.
I hope to submit a new deviation soon and.. well not only one, lol. I have many ideas, I just need to be able to realize them with the best accuracy (to the pictures I have in my head).

This is my first journal entry, and I'm already wondering what exactly are a header and a footer on those journal entries.. Never mind.

Anyway, I felt the urge of posting something because since last Saturday I haven't got over Spider-man 2. Yes, you heard me. To be honest, I saw it also on Sunday and I'm gonna watch it again tonight, and this isn't the end of it ! I can't say this is the first time it happens to me, but I thought this would not happen again before a long long time once the Lord of the Rings trilogy was over. And BAM ! Another huge slap in the face !

Isn't it extraordinary to find such freshness and emotion in a big budget movie like Spider-man 2 within the sad post-Matrix era ?.. I thought that human beings had definitely turned into programs like Neo in Hollywood blockbusters, unable to display the slightest face expression..
But no, I was wrong. The Lord of the Rings trilogy proved it, and so did Spider-man 1 and 2, movies where the directors, Peter Jackson and Sam Raimi (whose path is very similar), apparently had a lot of freedom to follow their ideas through.

So Spider-man 2 was BEAUTIFUL. It's an exhilarating experience that warms your heart. No explosion every two minutes (we're not in a Joel Silver production!), but a great storyline and wonderful acting instead. The movie clearly focuses on the characters, and for the better. The special effects are here to enhance the drama, not the opposite. There is this fabulous train scene towards the end of the movie, with gorgeous action between Spider-man and Dr Octopus, which shows all the incredible talent of Sam Raimi in his ability to jump from spectacular action to the most sober form of intimism. Spider-man 1 was already amazing in its deliberate focus on character development, Spider-man 2 goes further and is an introspective movie centered on Peter Parker, torn between his doubts and his dreams.
I need to say that Tobey Maguire is one hell of a good actor. I want him to get the Oscar right now, something must be done ! Plus he’s a goddamn cutie and he’s outrageously sexy in his Spider-man outfit. Kirsten Dunst is a very sensitive and convincing actress, and her part is getting more and more consistent and engaging. I didn’t know Alfred Molina before watching this movie although I knew his name.. I’ve been a long time fan of Willem Dafoe and loved him as Norman Osborn in the first Spider-man. And I have to admit that Molina is up to the great Willem Dafoe, I was surprisingly touched by his character and performance.

What more can I say.. Go watch this movie before it disappears from the big screens, feel the cinematographic experience, have a GREAT time.
