Bolt

Two movies I saw tonight and they are both awesome! Bolt had some of the funniest 3D animation I've seen so far and you can really see the improvement in 3D animation in general. Compare it to Toy Story or The Incredibles and you can really see the improvement. The story was amazingly cute too! One of the better Disney's of the last years.

Then City of Ember... A Sci-Fi sort of flick. It was soooo exciting with some unknown lead actors - who I thought were very good - and also Bill Murray and Tim Robbins - and the guy from Pirates with the wooden eye - hehe.
It was a really exciting movie which had me hooked until the end. Great movie. Not too long - 90 minutes - I advice everyone to see it - it is not a waste of time.

And other than that... I am doing great! Not much arty planned for the upcoming time, but I'm taking sewing classes and are looking forward to making my first cosplay outfits. I got a few ideas but do not know with what to start! Will keep you updated!

I have convinced a bunch of my friends to tag along as Avatarcharacters as well... And now I can say I'll be going with my best friends Mai and Ty Lee, as well as Fire Lord Ozai, Iroh and Katara!
And the Blue Spirit might also tag along (though I think he'll prefer his sandtrooper outfit )

We (= Ozai's angels) will be participating in the cosplay competition on Saturday at 2 pm. If anyone else is coming, come and check us out!

Although he had everything his heart desired, the Prince was spoiled, selfish, and unkind... And kind of nameless too!



It is April First today, a day to be fooled and to question all you hear. What I am about to write is not something I want people to take lightly though... I am quite serious about this. This is no joke.

I am talking about Disney's Beast here. The same prince that got changed into a beast by the Enchantress, and later on was able to break the curse by winning the love of Belle. And that was when he magically transformed into the nameless prince that people say is actually called "Adam".

But here is where I question what I hear... I have questioned that name ever since I heard it, which must be many, many years ago. I have tried to look for the solid proof, the evidence... I have asked people if they could scan the page in the book where it said the name was so, but most of the time, I would just hear: "Oh, prince Adam? Well I didn't *read* about it in the actual book, I just picked it up online, someone said it was in a book!"



On Bittersweet and Strange, a Beauty and the Beast forum, the Beauty and the Beast fans have discussed his name for years. And we're still discussing. The fans can't find the evidence. Can you?



Even the Internet Movie Database (IMDB.com) used to mention Beast was named Adam at some point. It was submitted by someone saying it said so in the official Disney Encyclopedia by Dave Smith.
This lead to fellow-Beauty and the Beast-lover TrudiRose to buy "The Official Disney Encyclopedia A to Z" by Dave Smith. She read every page of it, only to find there was nothing about a "prince Adam" mentioned there.
She notified IMDB of this false news and they deleted the mention of this name by the end of 2007. But by then, even more people had picked up this name and assumed it to be official. But is it, really?

Others have said it is mentioned in a book by Don Hahn, but so far, I have heard no true confirmation on that...



All this fuzz about the name Adam has led me to wonder: is this an Urban Legend? Did someone, once, make up the name, get questionned by someone, and replied: "No, prince Adam *is* the official name! It says so in a book!" or something similar? Did that story get changed so much over the course of time that people started believing "Adam" was the name given to Beast by its animator, or the director, or the producer, etc?

Don't we all just assume this knowledge to be so because so many people call him "Adam"? I know that when people ask me: "What's the Beast's name?" I usually reply: "Adam. They call him Adam."

But WHO calls him Adam?
The fans? Or is there genuinely somebody working at Disney who called him like that? Is it official or totally the opposite?



This is where I need your help! I want to investigate this Urban Legend, but I want you to tell me where you heard the name "Adam" first! Did you actually READ it in a book somewhere? Good! Scan it! Send me the evidence! I've been wondering for years and if there is real evidence out there, I'm hoping to track it down this way!

DeviantArt is a great place to find other artists with a fascination for characters such as Beast. I'm hoping that, together, we can, once and for all, settle if "Adam" is a fan-given name or has true roots in Disney.

First things first. Since... yesterday, really, I am stuck without a job again. I am obviously looking for something new, but I'm not too much in a hurry at the moment yet. I'll probably go insane in a month though, which is when I'll start hurrying up with finding work.

As for me, we celebrated Christmas last evening. I got a nice brown poncho, blue thermal socks, a 25 euro voucher for America Today and a box of Chokotoffs. Or as Harry Potter-fans call those chocolates: Sneepjes. (Little Snapes) Why? Cause they're very black, very greasy and very yummie all at the same time.

I want to talk about several things. ^^ I don't rant that much on DeviantArt, you guys know that. Last journal post was from August. And now it's October.

First of all: I finished Kingdom Hearts 2. And man, do I love Axel! He rocks my socks. He should be bald though, cause drawing his hair is the closest thing to being in hell there is.
On Youtube, there are tons of cool Kingdom Hearts 2 videos. One of my favourite fanvideos is to the song "Which to bury: us or the hatchet" by Relient K. The video is basically about Axel/Roxas/Namine. Really really wicked.

Well, I'm very curious about it, so can't wait til Friday.
- Love the song "Gravity" by Vienna Teng. Romaaaantic stuff.
- My red Citroen C3 gets dirty every week! It's horrible! I don't like cleaning cars, but I don't like driving around in a dirty one either, so now I gotta clean it like every week! Damn!

Second... I got a car. It's a secondhand Citroen C3. A lucifer-red one. Really cool one too. I'm very happy with it. And with my GPS. ^^
Third... I made a movie. A Harry Potter fanmovie.

Well, I have to elaborate on that last statement. To say "I" would be very selfish. To explain the entire process of how the movie was made, would also be a bit complicated.
Let's just say that three summers ago (or even more than that), me and my friend Joost (yorokei on DA) wrote a script for a movie. But we never got around to filming it.
This year, a lot of my Harry Potter friends came to my home town to stay in a camping. And they wanted to make a movie for dreuzels.com, the website where we all met. They got together the old script, changed some stuff, added some scenes, you know, the usual... And then we shot it!
And that's it! Janneke is doing the editting of the movie now, but the trailer's finished already.

The story is about four young people who are on a quest to find Hogwarts. I play the part of the Slytherin girl, Jessie, who's madly obsessed with Snape. My companions are Roy, the noble Gryffindor, Jon, the smart Ravenclaw and Stefanie, the inevitable Hufflepuff. During our quest to find Hogwarts, we encounter many obstacles, which you'll see more about in the actual movie.

I'm planning on making a seperate page for the movie on dreuzels.com, but for now I will just link you to the trailers...

I could rant on about all three of those movies, but I'm gonna ignore Titan AE, just tell you all that Spirited Away is a must see that always makes me cry and ties me to the screen for two hours... And that Harry Potter rocks, obviously!

Sooo, that might rise the question in some of you as to why I haven't been very active lately? Good question. I've just been quite busy with work the last months, and with school, and I'm not stressy enough to draw.
I usually draw when I'm feeling a bit stressed, which hasn't been the case lately. I do make some Photoshop stuff, like blends, wallpapers and stuff like that, but I use Harry Potter piccies for those, so I can't post all of it. I promise to post one of the Snape wallies I made soon... So you can see what I've been up to.

And other than that, I haven't got much to say. ^^ I'm going to the Mexican Restaurant in town this Sunday and I'm looking forward to that. Lol. But that's about it!

When I finish it, I can work with handicapped people, difficult children... Social stuff, anyways. At the moment I'm doing work placement or something with people with a mental handicap (they're grownups with the abilities of toddlers). I'll be working there till the 19th of May.
3) I'm quite creative and constantly busy with some sort of "creativity" or "arty" thingies. I love to draw, write, make photoshop-layouts, listen to music, sing, watch movies, act... That kind of stuff. If I can't do those thingies, I go insane. It's the truth. These things are the only things that can de-stress me. If I can't write or draw or listen to music (good music), I'm seriously stressed.
4) I listen to Japanese music every now and then. I also love scores and soundtracks from movies. And general soft-rockish bands like The Calling, Goo Goo Dolls, Lifehouse... I pretty much like all music though, except for trance and house and R&B and rap.
5) I have an older sister who's moving out of the house any day now. She's four and a half years older than I am.
6) In movies and books, I'll always be most interested in the ugliest and darkest characters. It's simply a fact, think of Severus Snape, Eric (Phantom of the Opera), the Beast...
7) I went to London this summer to queue on Oxford Street for the 6th Harry Potter book. We bought the book at Waterstones (a group of about 10 muggles from Belgium and Holland) and we were the second group of people in the queue. We waited for 12 and a half hours untill the doors opened. It really felt just like an hour...
8) I'm going to see the Dutch Beauty and the Beast musical the 8th of December. I'd prefer to see the Broadway one, but Broadway's a bit too far away from here.
9) On my computer desk, there are always about seven or eight books: Harry Potter 1-5 in Dutch, the 5th book in English and a book about Charles Darwin. I don't know what that last book is doing there, honestly, I'm just too lasy to move it to another place.
10) I've only got one animated movie on DVD... South Park the movie.
11) I honestly don't watch television at all. I do play Playstation 2 every now and then.
12) On my PS2, I've got all 3 Singstar games. I also have Kingdom Hearts, Harry Potter 2 and LotR3. I only have one controller.

Now, that's how the rulebook would work. Perhaps they won't cut the internet off till Monday and perhaps I'll be able to come back online in another two weeks or so. I just don't know.
But if you would see me offline for over 24 hours, you can be sure that they cut off the internet.
Why? Well, my sister is moving out of the house and is taking her internet account with her (she never uses the internet, but it's on her name). We will get a new internet account but that would take a while.

What does this mean for you all? I'm de-watching you all. For the next month, no longer than that! You'll still be in my friends list and stuff, but I'll just uncheck the "deviations" part, so I won't be told about your deviations while I'm gone. I don't wanna come back with the news of: "CartoonJessie has 463 new messages" or something of the sort. So you'll understand it's nothing personal.

I'll keep on drawing while I'm offline (I won't have anything else to do when I am offline!) so I think you might find a lot of piccies waiting for you when I get back online... Or maybe not. We'll see.

Current projects

1. GoO-cover: Lineart and background is finished, but Lumière is being a bitch to get shaded. Hope to finish it soon, but as long as the shading on Lumière looks as though he needs a good washing-up, I'm not posting it.
2. Da smooch: Well, my fav Beauty and the Beast forum (Bittersweet and Strange, go here: [link] ) and a discussion about Beauty and the Beast's behaviour in Kingdom Hearts got me thinking about a kiss between Beauty and the Beast. And we were complaining that there were too little kissing piccies of them (obviously) so I decided to give it a try. I've finished the sketch and I'm working on the lineart as we speak. It will take a while to finish though...
3. The Prince: And my dear friend Simon (lathronaniron on DA) won a request because I gave his latest drawing my 100th fav! So in return for me faving him, he gets a request (which he will HAVE to fav, mwoehahaha). And he requested me to draw the Prince from Beauty and the Beast, and so I will! But it will take a while, too...

All nonsense

School started this week for me as well and I will start work/stage this Monday. Which means things are going to be busier...
What does this mean? Well, probably less updates... And the people I watch will probably notice I won't be commenting on their piccies as much as I used to. So instead of commenting on every single thing I see, I will keep the comments to the drawings I REALLY have something to say about... I hope you'll all understand.

By the way, today I went to Maastricht and I got my tickets for the Dutch Beauty and the Beast musical. It's based on the Broadway one, though not entirely alike. *sighs* Like: ... it's Dutch.
But anyways, looking forward to it! I'll be seeing it 8th of December, on my own, I'm afraid, though I don't mind at all! Yeaaay!

Some other nonsense to tell... I put some things in "My Scraps" over the last couple of days. You can see my OLDEST Beauty and the Beast drawings there, they're from back when I was just starting out "sketching". 1997 or 1999, I'm not sure. I didn't really draw anything before that date. I was quite late to start drawing, but I think I'm starting to catch up.
I also put a quick sketch of some Hogwarts professors in there last week and you'll also notice some other piccies in my scraps, like drawings of Pocahontas and I think Hercules and Gundam Wing. Check it out if you're bored.

Kingdom Hearts

By the way, I finished Kingdom Hearts this week! Ooooh it's such an amazing game! Inspirational, really! I advise every Disney-fan to play it, it's funny, it's fun, it's really one big adventure. I loved the movie clips inbetween and I'm starting to get a bit too excited about gummi ships... ^^' (Like building gummi ships from 11 pm till 3 am)

GoO
GoO is short for Games of Outwitment, a Beauty and the Beast project I've started working on. All about the GoO-project can be read here: [link]
Practice time is over now and I've started working on a cover for the story already. I've also finished four chapters so far, but I don't think they'll be up before the end of September because I will draw fanart to go with every chapter. I think the first chapter cover will feature Gaston, so Gaston-fans, time to rejoice!

Beauty and the Beast forum
As some of you may or may not know, I frequently visit a cool Beauty and the Beast forum, but... It's down.
Yes, yes, big drama indeed. Bandwidth is costing a fortune and stuff... But there is a plan and for it to work, we need your help (and money, lol).
and are doing commissions! So go to their pages to check everything out about those commissions. These two artists draw AMAZING Disney art! So if you want them to draw your fav character in return for a couple of dollars, please, please, go commission them!

School and work
School won't start untill another couple of weeks or something, I'm not sure, lol. Oh dear, I need to ask some classmates when I'm expected at school though, wouldn't want to miss the start of term. It's only 1 day of class a week I've got, but still...
As for stage/work that accompanies my lessons (three days a week), it won't start untill September 19th.
And my summer job is over as well now, so I got a lot of spare time the couple of weeks and I will dedicate most of it to drawing.

I'll keep oekaki-works in my main gallery for now, but paper sketches will go in my scraps. I just like the colorfullness of my gallery at the moment and black and white sketches would break the colorfull look of my gallery.

I will obviously continue uploading newer piccies as well. I'm currently STILL working on a Beauty and the Beast practice drawing. I got Beauty and the Beast coloured and shaded, but I still need to do a background. (God help me...)

What does GOO stand for?
GOO stands for "Games of Outwitment". It is the name of a Beauty and the Beast fanfic I'm currently writing.

What's the GOO-Project?
The GOO-Project will be, obviously, writing the fanfic (which is going really well at the moment), as well as drawing a picture to go with every chapter. All pictures will be based on the characters as they are seen in the Beauty and the Beast Disney movie.

What will GOO be about?
Games of Outwitment will be a retelling of the Beauty and the Beast story. Don't get me wrong, Beauty and the Beast is my fav Disney movie, but it's too... Disney-fied.
The characters are too black and white, the story too predictable, too much for all ages... I want a slightly deeper and funnier story.
My fav moment in the movie is when Belle and the Beast are arguing after he saved her from the wolves. They're just trying to outwit eachother. And both seem to get quite a lot of pleasure out of it (when they think they're outwitting the other). So that's something I'll definitely give lots of attention in the story. Hence the title: Games of Outwitment

Isn't it lame to retell Beauty and the Beast?
Ehm... I suppose it is, but I'm writing my own story too, in a way. The plot is gonna be different. Totally different. The characters are going to be more gray, not black/white.
A first thing to give away about the plot is that Maurice isn't going anywhere in my story, he's staying at home, there's no fair or something. So you can start wondering how Belle will meet Beast now.

Cool! Beauty and the Beast! What characters and ships?
Probably all the characters from the movie. And the exact same ships as the movie as well. So Beauty/Beast and Lumière/Fifi. Not original? Just wait and see.

When can we start reading the fanfic? Or just watch the artwork?
It will still take a couple of weeks, I think. I got three chapters finished already, but I want the drawings for each chapter to be posted with the chapter, so it's gonna take longer to get posted. I'm also gonna do some studies on drawing Beauty and the Beast and the other characters. You'll be able to see THOSE practice drawings in my gallery and scraps-page over the next couple of weeks.
