3 years

3 years ago I started this account shortly after discovering what stock was. Many mistake, a few crisis, a famous window and three years later, here I am.
I have never thought about my longevity on DA. It is highly related to my friends here and the fun I take in doing what do. Those three years have helped me grow in a lot of ways. I grew as a trigger-happy snapshot maniac to what I believe is a somewhat decent place/landscape stock-artist. I met many a great friend, most of them I have yet to meet in person but who still are dear to my heart.
I fear that in the next few years my presence on DA will become more shadowy due to the life path I have chosen. However, I have no intention of leaving this site as long as I still have friends on it. So what can I wish for, besides another three years of art, friendship and wonderful creations made with my stock?

Thanksgiving

It was awesome and I am stuffed!

Epic week-end:

After braving the circles of Hell (Philadelphia), the evil masterminds got together for some mischief!
Indeed, I spent an awesome meeting with =lindowyn-stock, =TheArcher777 and crew. It involved Dungeon and Dragon, chicken with breast implants, boobrie, oracles, kittens, bagels, wonder danglies and stuffs.
As you might guess, the stock occasion was to beautiful to resist. So we went to it and i must admit it was wonderful to work with such skilled stock-artists. Having a talented photograph you and a seasoned model does help a lot I must say! Of course there were hiccups, jazz hands, spinning cloak and much glee.

Piggy flu?

My adventure of the week! On Thursday I started having a fever. By Friday night I hit the 103F. At the same time, we received an e-mail about swine-flu being on campus. Anyway, but yesterday evening, the fever was over, but I still have a sore throat. A friend of mine is convinced I had a washed-down form of swine-flu. Well i guess we shall never know Just remember one thing: ALL WILL DIE!

Halloween:

Yesterday was awesome! I was still a bit feverish for a better part of the morning, but it went away in the afternoon so I was able to enjoy the Halloween festivities! I went as a mental patient. It involved a strait-jacket, black hair-dye and creepy eye make-up. Oh, and when i say black hair-dye, I do not mean spray... I mean actual dye I'll have to keep the black hair for a while now! So we went to various parties, and ended up back in our dorm for 2 hours of ghost stories in the dark! That was so awesome, mainly because some of the Japanese girls would just freak out and scream at every "scary" part.

Hello:

Doh! I remember the time when i updated this journal every week... And now, I am so busy I hardly have time enough to do so! My work is keeping very busy. I do enjoy it though: I enjoy the courses I am taking, and the student I teach French to are overall nice and funny fellows.
I have met many a wonderful person here, and those weirdos I have for neighbors keep me away from the computer for a great deal of time. Running around campus with Nerf guns shooting a each other, running to the convenience store at midnight (Wawa I love you), watching Ace of Cakes, making evil plans to take over the world, everything is good enough for us to be amused!

Being a tourist:

2 weeks ago, we had friends from Spain and France over, so we showed them around Philly. I enjoyed the museum of art which gave me many new ideas. Spending the fall break in new York was great too! We had 4 packed days: Met museum, Central park, times square, Empire State building, World Trade Center, Wall Street, Broadway, seeing Chicago-The Musical, Little Italy, Chinatown, Soho... What a blast! I'll go back there for sure.

And then this week-end, the unthinkable happened! While hanging around Philly, I was kidnapped, taken to another state and tortured I shall never forget those two days... And i think =lindowyn-stock will not forget it either, mostly the part when i forced her to take me underwear shopping And of course, =TheArcher777 might have troubles sleeping because of the ghost babies. But all that is another story entirely!

Hectic:

I know it is a very easy excuse, but my life here is REALLY hectic. I take 7h hours of classes a week, plus the homework and the 10h of French classes that I teach and the preparation for them. Add to that the ridiculous number of clubs I joined and there you go!

So what's going on right now? Well, tonight after 11pm, our uni is giving away free cheesesteaks . I also have a paper to write in History of Film, readings for my literature class and lesson pans to make. Also, tomorrow is Homecoming and I am so nervous I might pee in my pants: the choir is performing and I am a part of it. This is my first try in a choir, I can barely read music and never played any instrument or received vocal training. The good news is, according to my choir director, I seem to be able to sing in tune and match the pitch on most notes (still having trouble to reach the higher ones). Anyway, massive stress!!

Travel:

As I said, I'll spend fall break in NYC. Now Thanksgiving is sorted out as well: a friend invited me and other friends to her parent's house in Michigan! We'll have a real traditional Thanksgiving dinner in an American family! I am so excited
And there might be more awesome to come before Thanksgiving... we'll see!

First and foremost, let me apologize for not being on DA very much lately. I do not take enough time to care about you folk and this is wrong. My life, however, has sped up a great deal. Departing from my isolation in the French suburbs when my nearest friend lived a 20min drive away, i ended in this campus where everyone is within your reach, and most of all so friendly you cannot refuse to hang around with them.
However, i do have more stock to upload from my summer vacation in France. Art is another matter, but I guess if you read this journal over there is because you're more interested in the stocky pics. Well possess your soul in patience, those will come soon.

US of A, continued:

As I mentioned before, my life here is pretty hectic. I have to take 7h of reading-intensive courses, and I am teaching ten hours a week, for two different levels which means I have to prepare different lesson plans. As if that wasn't enough, I joined several clubs and associations. On Monday evening I go to meditation session; on Tuesday at lunch I am at the German table where we eat and speak only in German; on Tuesday evening I am at the college choir practice; on Wednesday evening I have to animate the French table over diner; Thursday evening are devoted to the Literary Society; and I might be taking hip-hop dance courses on Saturday (yes, i do NOT like hip-hop, but I wanna try). I also joined the German club, the Japanese club, the French club and a social action club. I do go to the gym daily, and take part in any event I can (just went to cheer fr a friend's rugby team tonight). And we've booked our hostel in NYC for the fall break
In a few words: i am having a blast. I just need to schedule better so that i can make you guys a part of it!

Me and the other international students and TAs (that's only 6 of us ) are planning a trip to NYC for the fall break We'd be there from the 15th October to the 20th. I think we are allowed a nice break since they made us work on Labor Day

After staying in Syracuse, NY for a few days, I arrived last Saturday safe and sound in Pennsylvania. We where shown around campus by a student-worker until thursday, and now we are having our first relaxing days. Freshmen are arriving on campus slowly, and tomorrow is the big move-in of sophomores, juniors and seniors. With the other TAs and international student, we'll be going to Philly to avoid this mess. We've already been there though, down South Street. Tomorrow we'll be perfect tourist, and we'll visit the Liberty Bell and whatnot

I met the French professors, i kinda know what I'll have to do, and I am enrolled in two classes "American Literature" and "History of Film") I already have readings to do for Monday, and I also know I'll be studying the Scarlet Letter... which i first studied in France, then a second time in Scotland, and now a third time in the US

With the two other TAs (Santiago the Spaniard and Miriam the Austrian), we're already planning a trip to New York in the fall break . We also want to go to a baseball game, a football game and a basketball game... You know, all the clichÃ© stuff

I love the campus; it is small, but it has: a pool, a gym, an indoor track, outdoor tracks, tennis courts, football filed, baseball pitch, dance studios, two theater rooms, huge auditoriums, etc... They gave us a cellphone, a laptop and a laser printer

A small night's sleep, and tomorrow I'll be gone. Direction Syracuse, NY, with one stop in Philadelphia. Tomorrow evening, I'll be sleeping in a hotel in the US! I am ecstatic, and I also don't know when I'll gain access back to the net.

It was cool! I had great fun and finally got to met friends from the net I've know for about 5 years now. In four days we visited two nice cities, and I took many pics, but very few of them are stock-worthy (tourist overload basically - and of course I totally wasn't a tourist ).
I might have some postable seaside pics, but don't get your hopes too high!

Near departure is near:

In a week I'll be gone. And I haven't started packing yet. But don't worry, I will go and invade the US anyway. They're never gonna know what hits them
As I said previously, I will most likely be netless from the 18th to the 22nd at the very least, maybe more. Maybe that a good thing.

Many people have been writing journals on how DA is evolving and what it means to them. It would be easy for me either to slag off DA or praise it. I won't do either of those. DA is moving faster into a direction it already went. Portfolio, sharing features... in no time we'll be a smashing professional website for professional artists. And that when I'll call it quits. I've already gone much farther than I though I'll ever go (read: provide unrestricted stock, not typing a world of insults and belittling comments when i see my 5th horse of the week or my 12th goth chick).
Until then, i shall have fun here while I still am optimistic enough to ignore the shite lurking in shadows

Then he touched her Milky Way.
They checked in and went straight to the bedroom.
Mr Cadbury turned out the light for a bit of Black Magic. It wasnÂt long before he slipped his hand into her Snickers and felt her Double Deckers. Then he showed her his Curly Wurly.
Ms Rowntree wasnÂt too keen as she already had a few Jelly Babies so she let him take a trip down Bourneville Boulevard.
He was pleased as he always fancied a bit of Fudge nudging. It was a Magic Moment as she let out a scream of Turkish delight. When he came out his Fun Size Mars Bar felt a bit Crunchie.
She wanted more but he decided to take a Time Out. However he noticed her Pink Wafers looked very appetising so he did a Twirl and had a Picnic in her Sherbert. At the same time he gave her a Gob Stopper.
Unfortunately Mr Cadbury had to go home to his wife Caramel.
Sadly he was soon to discover he had caught V.D.
Turns out Ms Rowntree had a Box of Assorted Creams Â she really had been with Allsorts.

Yesterday in chat, =DanHeffer-Stock was saying that most people didn't even know his art account existed. And sadly, that is the case for most of us around here. Some of us do well though, being equally renowned and respected for both their accounts (`pendlestock / `Mollinda is the perfect example of that), but most of us do not.

Happy Bastille Day:

July 14th is our National Holiday here in France! Basically, we commemorate the day the people of Paris stormed into the Bastille to free the king's prisoners in an act of rebellion against monarchy. There were actually only 8 prisoners in the jail at that time, because the monarchy had foreseen the revolt and moved most of them, but the date was kept anyway
Yesterday night there were balls and firework for which I don't really care for, and this morning was a military parade which I don't really care for either. But then, I am French so I kinda have to celebrate To tell the truth, most of the times I am downright ashamed of being French (mostly for political reasons). But I do love the French culture, and our beautiful country with its many landscapes.

I am a stocker. No, not even a stock artist, because we fuckers aren't artist in our own right according to some people on this site.
I am here to post pics for you to use however you want, regardless of any rule I might formulate, no matter how simple and lenient they might be.
All I have the right to do is gaze in wonder and be pleased when my stock is used in a manip. Asking for credit and notification is nothing but an power trip apparently.

I have said this sentence a several times to some of my watchers. And quite frankly I don't who else I could say it to. Because we have NO support. We stock artist stick together, and that's it. A few manippers do actually care for us, pimp us, feature us, suggest us for DDs. But the rest? The people in power? Nothing. Dead frozen silence! Look at the next photography DD. Look how many GMs will come praise it and defend it if it is attacked. Look at the next stock DD. See how many GMs even comment on it...
Looks at the current 'official contests'. How many of them are open to resource artists?
I'm not even talking of resource artists with more than 100K pageview, more than 20K comments and dozens of contest in their history that never get seniored.

You'll understand by that that I do not blame our three resource GMs who have always done such an awesome job. I am talking of all the others, all those who never took any interest in the stock community. I was first a manipper. Then a stocker, then I started looking around ALL galleries: vector, photography, fractal. I took interest on EVERYTHING this site had to offer. Why does hardly anyone take interest in the resource gallery? Are we lesser artists? Are we just lazy wankers dumping our holiday pics on there? I beg to differ. I am always paying for a fucking subscription, either on this account or my other one. I do no infringe DA's rules. I am active in the community, through watching people, interacting in journals, comments, forums, chatrooms and news. So excuse me if I feel that community owes me and other involved resource artist a little more than it actually give us.

What now?

Well, there might hope. ideas have been sparkling and I am able to ignore the bad stuff again. But where does this hope come from? Where are those ideas born? In the official stock chatroom. Amongst...

United States of Awesome?

I know my excitement about going to the US might seem quite childish and un-understandable to some of you, either Americans or USA-haters. Let me try and make it clear to you what this all means to me. I grew up wanting to be and FBI agent. Of course I wanted to explore the X-Files at 8, but when I discovered they didn't actually exist, I decided to be a profiler. I was 8 when I started learning English. At 11, I became a little more rational and decided to become and English teacher, when most of my friends wanted to be doctors or popstars. I tried to walk away from it and even did a week of observation at a vet's before going to high-school. And then I choose the literary section, for the English again. I had a last bout of resistance in 1st ear of uni when I studied English/German translation but in 2nd year I came back to my pure English degree. I am now lazily writing a maste's thesis on American playwright Arthur Miller. I visited the US twice already, and now I'm going to live there. You think I'm happy? WRONG! I'm fucking ecstatic! I know the USA have a loads of shit sides, but guess what? All countries do. I am not going there assuming my native culture is somehow higher than theirs and yet I am not going there as a complete fantard. I am going there because I just need to.

Embassy Fail

So, yesterday we had a nice reception at the Ambassador's private house in Paris and this morning was the.... Quest for Visas! Supposedly, we were to be on a priority list, which I suppose we actually were. But then, we had this form to fill on the interwebs, and print out. It had a bar code on it. The guy at the very entrance of the embassy scanned mine: not working. "No worries, it happens quite a lot, see we have those computers just there so you can fill them again and print them for free." Off the Pierre goes to fill his new form. And just when I am done and about to submit my form: general power outage. The comps had to be restarted, we waited for 30 minutes for the IT guy to come enter the password, and another 20 minutes for them to try and reset the servers. Eventually we just had to go to the windows where the immigration officials filled the forms directly on their computer. And i got the glorious 'Visa Granted' sentence

So, my last journal might have been a little... panicky? apocalyptic? Anyway! We performed our play twice, to a relatively small audience, but it was well received in spite of the sad subject and the somewhat experimental staging.
My English lessons are almost over as well, and the art exhibition will soon take place. All i have to really 'worry' about is enrolling for uni. Then the meetings in Paris on Wednesday, and Thursday and the play on Friday. One thing at a time!

US of A

As I said, Wednesday and Thrusday are devoted to the various meeting in Paris concerning my stay in the US, and on Friday morning I'm having my visa interviews at the American embassy in Paris.
Also, the person in charge for teaching assistants in the US College put me in touch with other TAs to come: one Spanish guy and a Austrian girl will be perverting young American students along with your devoted cheese-loving Frenchman. We have exchanged a few e-mails already, we all have different backgrounds, which is fun! The Spanish guy is studying to become a translator, and the Austrian girl is already working as a teacher. I fell we'll have fun, loads of it!

I realize this is the third time I've been editing this journal, mostly because I don't have time to make a smashing new entry with new features. I will also be keeping out of chat in the next days. I am stressed. I love stress. it makes me believe my life is exciting.
Anyways, the next days/week are/is gonna be hectic.
Tonight was our last play rehearsal, we will perform it tomorrow and saturday evening, and then next friday in another venue. We're doing a kind of street performance: the various scenes of our play are gonna be played outside, amongst the audience...
I need to get a haircut tomorrow, then go shopping for cake material and then bake the cakes to be sold at the end of the play. Then maybe if I have time, hop at the uni to attend a little to the cycle of conference that has been taking place here since today. Oh, and make a course for my pupil on saturday. I introduced him to Great-Britain, then the US, and now I'd need any link you might have about the history of Australia/New-Zealand, though I know a little myself. And it would be even better if you had acces to some really short text, in simple English, on what life in those countries is like.
Then saturday morning is the last art class before the exhibition (exhibition for which me and the teacher spent 3h this morning doing labels), then in the afternoon I'm giving this 1h30 course on Australia to my pupil, then i come back home and get ready for the play in the evening.
On Monday and tuesday I must go the uni and get an inscription form, gather all the documents they need an enroll. On Wed morning I must go to the art exhibition venue to 'drop' all my works, then at noon i'm off to Paris for the meetings about the US, same on thursday, plus a reception at the embassy in the early evening, then back to my suburbs (still thursday evening) and another play rehearsal at this new venue. Then on Friday morning, need to be a 7:30AM in Paris at the embassy to get my visa, back home at 10am to be at the art exhibition from 10 to 12AM, and then in the evening we perform our play, followed by a BBQ with the theatre group. Eventually on Monday, uninstalling the art exhibition.
And on Wednesday the 1st of July, i'm starting to work. Job for which I haven't signed anything and might need to go to Paris to do so. WHEN?

I wish days where more than 24h. Sleep and exhaustion are irrelevant.

Ok, that might be a slight exaggeration Anyway, both my sister-cousin(no, there is no incest in the family, she's actually my cousin but she serves more as a sister) and her boyfriend work in the police. He works in a service that arrests baddies, chase drug dealers and kick pedos in the balls.
Anyway, for a reason that remained undisclosed to me, they put this dude in jail after he's been tried for I don't know what. Only ' problem', this dude was South African, and he had to be sent back to South Africa after the trial. And according to the procedure, an interpreter must be present when he signs his leaving papers and when he gets the information about his flight. And I was the interpreter Mind you, getting paid Â30 to tell a guy in English "please sign here", "your plane back to SA is at..." and "anything to add?" is a good deal! Funny thing is, when I asked him the last question he answered without a hint of irony: " Nope, nuttin, prison was great, cops are cool." I can only guess he has tried South African prisons before and find ours more to his liking Anyway, yay for lazy money! (just when my art account needed a sub )

Books and stuff:

I know I should not, but then I cannot refrain. I am a compulsive book buyer. I cannot feel well if I do not have at least half a dozen books bought in advance for later reading. That excludes all I read for university, being a literature graduate. I love reading. Everything.
So last week, when I saw the last paperback edition of a thriller by my favorite French crime-writer, I could not resist buying it. I put it away from me, telling myself I knew I had to make it last. Fail. I started it yesterday at 3, read it until 5 when I had to go give a lesson. I came back, had diner, left for the theater, and as soon as i came back at 11pm, I read it until I couldn't keep my eyes open (4am) I slept until 10, gulped down a bowl of cereals, got back to bed and finished the book. Less than 24h. 567 pages. Horrid descriptions of sadistic murders...

I haven't been stocking a lot recently. I just don't know where to go anymore... Or rather, i know where to go and what to photograph, but I just know for a fact it won't get used So I am still packing my old stuff, and I might make more computer-generated textures. I also need to keep my hands dirty with CSS because if i stop coding I forget how too

The Joys of Shopping

So, after working a little I managed to save some money. My first idea was to get my tongue pierced. Off I go to Paris then to see my piercer. And back home went, but without said piercing. My stupid tongue is too short I feel diminished in my manhood now.
So I could have kept my money for greater purposes... but that would be not knowing me! Today I decided to go to the shopping mall and by all the silly T-shirts I could find! And here comes the rant. Why on earth does ALL clothes shop have an aisle for 'oversize' women when you cannot even find anything bigger than XL in the men's department??? Seriously, this annoys me... I am nearly 2m tall for god's sake (that's 6.56167979 ft for you non-metric heathens). So it would appear that clothe maker thing man can be short and thin or medium, tall and thin or medium and short and large. I happen to be tall and medium/large. Cherry on the top: not all clothes shops have the same size. When I fit in a L shirt in a shop, that's gonna be XL in another and XXL in a third one Now on to the trousers... Gosh I hate shopping for trousers. Nothing is long enough for me and I always look like a retard with short pants Once in a while I manage to find something long enough... but twice too wide. I am currently wearings jeans that would fall off if my belt was to disappear...

Massive cleanage

I have been a sneaky bastard lately: without telling anyone, I have been deleting shit from my stock, and gathering pictures into packs. This allows me to keep my gallery cleaner and easier to browse, but also to update my rules as regards unrestricted stock and whatnot. I know that people do not often download whole packs, but I also know that serious manipulators do, so I am not worried about not having stock usage anymore

Life

These last days have been pure shit, as some people here know. But it is all coming back to normal I think. I got my informations on the summer orientation program I am to undergo in the States. It'll take place in Syracuse, NY, from August 18th to August 22nd when I leave for my college next to Philly. Excitement is slowly building up...
Also, I am getting the infamous piercing itch. That does not mean my piercings are itchy, but I itch for more. Maybe next week will see me with more metal in my flesh... Oh yes... Maybe...
June is approaching and OMG this is gonna be manic! We are to perform our play on the 18th-19th-20th-26th; the art class exhibition runs on the 27th-28th, and the meetings in Paris for the US thing are on the 24th and 25th.

Happy May Day!

Far from any religious tradition, it has been the custom to offer some Lily of the valley (=muguet in French) on May 1st for some centuries now in France.
It all started at the Renaissance, when Charles X decided to offer some of this flower to all the ladies of the court on this date. And now, four and a half centuries later, we still do it. Selling 'muguet' on May 1st is actually legal for anyone and anywhere: no age restriction, no set prices, no nothing.
It is considered to bring luck, even more if the plant has 13 of those little bells. So here's luck for you my friends (don(t bother counting, I fell short, this one only has 12).

I uploaded my almost last stock these days. All I have left to upload are one or two statues and some shots of bridges pillars. Good thing is, spring is getting very warm here, so I'll soon have flowers to photograph all over the garden and the town. I will also go venture again in the 'great outdoors' of the parisian suburbs... I am sure there are some parks in the area I haven't visited yet.

Life:

I am preparing for my departure for the US in August. In the meantime, my cousin and her family, who occupy the first floor of our house, is seeking for a house of her own with her boyfriend. My parents getting old and my dad having health problem, they decided that once my cousin have found her house, they will sell ours. The plan is to get them a smaller house with a smaller garden that would require less maintenance. For my part, they might rent me a studio in/very near Paris for when I come back, since my last (hopefully) year of university will have to be in Paris itself. It would be grand, but I don't have very high hopes. We shall see, first things first: Philadelphia

My parents left for holidays. My grand father, who creates train miniatures, is in the area for two days. So my parents told him to come visit with his associate nonetheless. So I'll have to cook them diner. And then my parents come back on Friday and have friends over on Saturday, and guess who will be on cooking duty again?
So here's the plan! For tomorrow I will make:
-Mussel salad (with onions, tomatoes and peppers)
-Spicy chicken legs and sweet potato mash
-Chocolate cake and whisky caramel sauce

And for Saturday:
-Fennel/Curry cream/salmon eggs cup and cucumber/curry yogurt/shrimps cup
-Spinach and feta tatin (pie cooked with the dough on top) and lamb roast

I am just happy that spring seems to settle there eventually. The weather in France is supposed to be sunny as far as they can predict (until the end of the week basically).

More awesomeness included a poetry reading tomorrow at university by American poet Peter Gizzi, restaurant for my mum's birthday on wednesday, museum visiting in Paris and choir recital in the evening on thursday (most likely going to see a graffiti exhibition in the wonderful Grand Palais in Paris; and in the evening parts of Haendel's Messiah sung by a choir of 110 voices and one soloist in a church, add to that a diner at a restaurant and it'll be perfect), and theater going on Friday. Plus the usual drama classes tomorrow evening and art classes on friday and saturday mornings... Exhausting week ahead

So, i got my money for my concert tickets that I sold on Ebay and was finally able to give the subs to my contest winners! I also received the criminal record paper I need to send to be able to complete my application for my new job. Once they receive it, they will send me addresses of people in my area who need English lessons for their kids. Yus, I will be teaching English (hopefully ) That will bring em some money until the end June I guess.

Life
I am less emo now. I put my concert tickets on sale again since the winner of the bid never paid for them the 1st time. A little more than 2 days left but it'll be at least 50Â.
Also, I have applied for a job and have an interview on Wednesday 'I apply on Friday, that is fast). This is to join one of those 'after-school' organization and give English tuitions to students up to high school.

This week has been fun! Friday night was crêes, yesterday was techno concert with my theater teacher's band (there might or might not have been rum drinking...). Tomorrow for lunch I'm going to a 'all you can eat sushi bar And I have booked tickets for a choir concert in which a friend of mine will sing (Haendel's Messiah).

WHALE SHARK OF THE WEEK

Freak city!

Soooo... today I went to Paris to get my nipple touched by a man. Calm down, he's just my piercer and I did my first month routine check up. Apparently it is healing very nicely
BUT I saw THINGS! Or rather, people...

There was this woman, right in front of the Centre Pompidou, Paris' biggest modern art museum... She was about 50, very slender. And she was spinning around, arms extended, face to the sun. She held her coat in her hand so that the roughly took a circle of 4m wide. Had she looked less shabby and psychotic, this could have been a lovely scene for an American movie from 50 years ago.

Then I went to the piercer's who was being very obviously assaulted by three preteen girls who, by their looks and outfit, probably though chatting a piercer up was flirting deadly with dangers.

I went out from piercer's and noticed that the spinning women had gone. But a few meters away I saw a jogger who was wearing black leggings and bright orange shorts over them. He was 50 and receding. Quite a lovely picture

Finally I hopped onto the suburban train to get back home, and I saw... a gangsta midget!!! I know it is not PC, but that was too dead funny! He was kinda like a dwarf version of Tupac! I so ardently wished Molly and Fiona were here

Other than that, and before going to Paris, I spoke in an auditorium full of students about my experience studying in Britain through the Erasmus program. They laughed at my jokes, so I guess it was a good thing

Thursday is a protest march again, and maybe a all-you-can-sushi bar at lunch. Friday is crêe restaurant with the theater folks. We have this woman who hasn't come in ages, does not answer her phone whereas she always used to warn us if she was to be missing a lesson. It is slightly (muchly) worrying .

Finally, ebay bitch that won the bid on my concert tickets is playing dead. Or maybe she is, I don't fucking care. I'll put my tickets up again tomorrow, since the gig is on the 19th.

PS: I do not like my life very much at the moment. I do not like to be still living with my parents and constantly argue with them or ignoring them. I do not like living in France. i do not like studying to be a teacher when the government wants to get rid of teachers. I do not like this feeling that the studies will never end. I do not like this certainty that I have no future, or no future in what I wish to do. If I was living alone, I'd probably go in the kitchen and cook a massive diner from starters to desert to calm em down and then not eat it. But parents are sleeping. And parents don't enjoy wasting food. But I enjoy being a moody bastard

Before diner, i was about to discard last week's TV program, but then I read through during the dinner, and found a shitload of VDay's artical. One caught my eye because it had the headline "Neuroscientists say that passion only last for 3 years". Apparently, our brain is programmed that way, to numb us for roughly three years, and afterwards we start to see the shortcoming of the other half and blahblahblah...
BUT! The most interesting part was about cheese! This scientist said to have plenty of stinky cheese in a making-up diner. Why? because cheese is erotic. Actually, cheese (and especially the stinking one) contain amino acids such as tryptophan. With enough tryptophan in your blood, it gets to your brain. And once in your brain, it creates serotonin. And serotonin is the chemical that seems to be active in the formation of many dreams, including erotic ones. SO EAT CHEESE! IT IS EROTIC!

But I was wondering. Why do so many people think that being naked is showing your 'soul' bare? (soul being loosely used there).
Do you, yourself, feel that you are more authentic when you are naked? I sure do feel more vulnerable naked than clad. But other than that... Nakedness does not appear to me as the reflection of who I am deep within. It displays my body, on which I have very little control. Far from being a fashion victim, I still do think that my clothes are part of my identity. You'd guess more of me seeing my clad than you would seeing me naked (besides the fact that I have a very bad sweet tooth, that I like piercings and that the men of my family are not generally hairy ).
So I do feel more true to myself when I am wearing clothes... Of course you could argue that some people...

So, yesterday... no wait! So, this morning, around 2:30, I saw a documentary on telly about whale sharks. I have always been fascinated by sharks. And seeing them huge and yet peaceful sharks was really amazing to me. I read about them, but never saw any, even on television, since documentaries often focus on great white sharks (though in the last month I have seen docs on tiger sharks and lemon sharks). They look huge, graceful and... cuddly. Yes, you read me right, they look cuddly

But then, unless, I go diving in exotic place, I might never see a real one since the only whale shark maintained successfully in tanks are in Atlanta (US) and in Japan, plus one illegally acquired in a hotel in DubaÃ¯.

So it leaves me with DA whale sharks:

Before you ask, yes, this has something to do with yesterday's DD.

I am NOT gonna tackle the problem of homophobia. Let it just be know that I find it a sickening proof of close mindedness and backward thinking.

Yesterday's DD comment were like "Eeeew gross! But that's my right to free speech so don't bother calling me a bigot". It would be foolish to think that it only happens on male/male kiss pictures. How many times have I read on nude (stock for that matters) "You're a fat whale and don't bother telling me I am a slave to advertising clichÃ©s because that's my right to free speech to call you that".

The funny thing is, when you try and exert your own free speech over those people by pointing their mistake or calling them 'asswipes' they deny it to you. Because you see, whoever invokes free speech first wins, it is like some little star you had in Mario Bros that made you invincible.

So apparently anything can be said because Law blesses us with a right to free speech.
Does that mean we are to allow people to say whatever they want to if they deeply feel it. Because if we let someone say 'Homosexuality is a human mistake'(sic), or 'Your fatrolls sicken me and the rest of the world', why do we put behind bars people that claim 'I have a sexual fetish for little girls' or 'I would very much like to bite off the nipples of my neighbor and burn her to death with a heated spoon'.
But I hear you! 'Those examples you gave are of an illegal nature! Moron!' My point exactly. As far as I know, racism and discrimination on grounds of sexuality and physical appearance (since those are my 2 examples) is illegal, at least in my country.

Some might not be convinced and will surely happily go one flaming whatever does not correspond to their narrow view of life. Here comes the second and perhaps more important issue: politeness.
We are all entitle to opinions. We all have the right to voice them to a certain extent. So I could go around tell people they are asswipes, wankers or bitches and then prevent them from butt-kicking me by invoking free speech? I don't think so. Because you can does not mean you should. It is all a matter of politeness. You like to view yourself as opinionated? Chances are you are just plain rude instead. Go and learn manners.

I should hope that none of my watchers feels targeted by this rant since it is aimed generally at the masses of ignoramuses who, anyway, would not take the time to read such a lengthy piece.

So, on the whole, I am not against free speech, fortunately... I just wish people were more open-minded and had better manners

Life

I am stupid. Or blind, I don't know... See, I always keep control over my money. And for some reason, I am now nearly broke. Let's face it, I spent more than 100Â on Xmas gifts, then roughly 60Â in books in January, 75Â on a piercing, and I just blew 58Â for my aquarium lights.
Now most of it was planned (except the aquarium lights). And I now have 10Â remaining on my credit card account Reason: I blew 30Â in train tickets to go to the library in January. Wanna know what's funny? I hardly ever went there. Now I'll need to go there 4 times a week to do my research. I did the math, it's gonna cost me 28,80Â a week exactly.
I am lucky enough to live with my parents, and I might end up asking them for money which is something I loathe to do... I have no job and no time to get one that will not get in the way of my studies, and I might not even be able to get one this summer. If I am going to the US, I'll only be able to work a month in July. If I stay here, I won't be able at all since I'll have to start working for the exams that'll give me a teacher's certificate...

I just can't see the end of it...

I am back from my winter vacations!
I left yesterday it was 35Â°C and after a night of flying I am back in France where it is -1Â°C (it went as low as -15Â° two days ago )
I might need a small readaptation period
I managed to catch up with my message center though when I was away, I only access to a slow dial-up connection and accidentally deleted about 280 deviations from my watchbox

I wish all a Merry Christmas! I might be a bit early, but since I managed to fin a Net connection, why wait?
Everything is just perfect here. I arrived yesterday morning after a sleepless night in the plane. It is 30Â°C all day and a bit stuffy, but why complain when everything is fine. First thing my parents did is take me for a swim in the ocean. A bit weird at 8 in the morning, especially after being awake for all 24h. I also ate a insane amount of litchis in a single day (I have to make up for the lack of cheese here.
And eventually tonight I manage to have my first real night of sleep in more than 48h.

I hope you're all having as much fun as I do!

It would appear that my parents take me for some kind of a housemaid. They left on Monday to go on holidays far away (think Indian Ocean...) and left me literally two tons of clothes to wash, dry and iron (that's beside the evident house-cleaning duty). So I spent the better part of yesterday afternoon ironing clothes of all sort. Which is good in a way, because I am getting good at it. Add to that the fact I cook quite well, and I'll be the perfect maid! Anyone wants to rent me? I can do various housekeeping duty. Pretty much anything as long as it doesn't involve children Oh, and I do charge extra if you want me to perform the said duty in an unappropriated outfit (undies/frenchmaid/whatever...)

Xmas

It is approaching. i'll be leaving on the 22nd and i don't know how I'll be connected to the interwebs after that date. So don't freak out if i disappear,or don't answer notes, comments and faves. I'll remind you before I go though

Other than that, life follows its course I am still studying for my master thesis on Arthur Miller. And surprisingly, I am not yet bored by his plays, so I assume it's all good.
Art courses are fun. This morning I was painting a night scene with oil, and the teacher allowed me to smudges the paint with my fingers I am just a big kid... I spend two month on a stupid ink/watercolor painting, and today in two hours I made something that looks much better... go figure.

Life

I had to pass the TOEFL this week. This stand for Test Of English as a Foreign Language. Believe me, when you are already fluent in English, this is severely debilitating. You are locked for 4h in a room in front of a computer, to read stupid texts, listen to stupid lectures and conversations and talk in a microphone. Great fun!

Medieval times:

Medieval Times was the name of an indoor medieval event I went to on Wednesday. It consisted mainly in concerts with German bands Elane, Faun and Qntal, but it also had medieval dancers, jugglers and acrobats. If you are interested in the medieval period, I'd recommend you check these bands if you don't know them already Elane plays a medieval inspired gothic music, very calm and doom-esque. Faun is medieval folk band, with a lot of medieval instruments I don't even know the name of. They play traditional medieval tunes from various Germanic/Nordic origins, and also some pagan songs. And Qntal (my personal favorite) is an medieval/electronica band. They play old medieval song in middle-english, old french, old german and latin from various sources (poems, books, Carmina Burana, etc) but with a twist of electronica and a lyrical singer. This is awesome!

So, I was discussing with my cousin the other day, saying how, when I was working at the train station, women will come before taking the train, asking where to buy tampons. I thereby reflected that women should always have some. That is when my cousin retorted: "That three things I always have in my purse: chocolate, Tampax and a flashdrive." So, I am applying for this teaching assistant thing in the US, and it gets on my nerve. I need to find a doctor to fill a whole form on my medical history in English (urine test included ) Then I have to provide an address of someone living in the US to be contacted in case of emergency. I am French dammit, if I had someone that close in the US, I wouldnÂt apply for such a program! Anyway, I also do have to pass the toeflÂ YouÂd think a masterÂs degree in English language/history/literature would suffice, but no And all that before the end of the year.

I planned this contest as a celebration of both my stock's second anniversary (Nov 25.) and my own 22nd birthday (Dec 4.)
It is obviously baroque related.

So what is baroque? It is a movement in art originated in the 17th century, ending in the mid 18th century. It influenced visual arts, architecture, music and even furniture making. More information here.

Now your job is to recreate this! How? Read below, dear friend!

*Unlimited entry per participant.
*Entries must be new and made for this contestThe art must have a baroque theme. It must reflect the 17th or 18th century in some fashion. I am flexible: it can be 18th century and more classical than baroque, I'll most likely accept it.
*The entry must use one piece of my special gallery.
*Are accepted: photomanipulations, vector/vexel, digital drawings/paintings/mixed media, traditional drawing/paintings/mixed media, artisan crafts that use my stock in some way (sculpting?).

Hypothetical good thing #1: job!

Wednesday, I had the pleasant surprise of receiving a mail from a lecturer I had last year. She transfered me a mail from a colleague of hers. My university is, as all French unis are, running a program for people who didn't graduate from high school and want to get into higher education. They have to get to the same level than the high school graduates. So they were searching teachers for this program, and they happened to have found them all... except for the English teacher. As a student in my second year of master's, I am considered as a researcher, and thus qualify for the job. I applied and I have good hope, since my lecturer told me they were really desperate to get one since the year has started already. I'd only have to work Mondays with a group of apparently friendly adults for a total of 80 hours before June. And I could get paid up to... 40Â an hour!
Wish me luck, I am waiting for a phone call or a positive email!

The Purse Project

Show me what you got!

We all carry around lots of stuff without knowing it. Bags, purses, pockets, overloaded wallets; they are all full. ID, keys, MP3 players, condoms, photos, pens, books, tampons, painkillers, make-up, whatever!
And that is the core of this project. Nothing really hard: flip your bag on the scanner (gently, it is made of glass) and scan it. No scanner: empty your bag on a table and take a picture of it! Upload it to dA (devious fun, scraps, even photography if you feel like it, and send them to me. In the deviation description, place a link to this journal. I will feature them all here. No prize to win, just fun to be had. The project is ongoing, so i might post a news every now and then if the number of entry is big enough!

NEW CSS

It took me a long time to get a new CSS, mostly because I am picky. I wanted something simple, but with a sidebar, and that would not contain images from outwith my stock. I could have coded it myself, that wouldn't have been a problem, but I suck at making nice graphics...
That was before I found this wonderful template by `Elandria

So, holidays were awesome and sunny, and as you can see got new stock. Now I'll be back to uni tomorrow, and I'll also start my theatre classes again tomorrow, which excites me a lot.As for uni, I will most likely write my thesis on the theme of "Lies and Deception on selected plays y Arthur Miller." Sounds pompous doesn't it? This should e my last year of uni, before I prepare or the teacher's exams. So we will see, i all is very well, I'll e working in two years

Vacation time:

Midway throught the vacation already. The weather is awesome, and I managed to take a few nice pictures with the DSLR my father lent me before I left. I'll be back on saturday and fully operationnal by sunday! Have fun and be good until then
I'll be leaving tomorrow to go in the South of France or ten days with a friend. It is gonna e awesome, and I hope to be able to shoot stock!
I'll still have the internet so I think I'll manage a regular online presence

I am currently having fun in the kitchen/bathroom making texture. Yus, I am using everyday cooking products and cosmetics on paper to make textures that I scan. It is great fun and it allows me to get dirty You might have seen the first two experiment:

First Time

When I read the stories, it all appeared clichÃ© to me. But it turned out to be true... most of it.
The excitation, mixed with a bit of fear. You know you really wanna do it, but it seems a bit scary. You wonder how you'd be able to accommodate its whole width in you. It is really amazing that such a little hole can take in something that wide, honestly, the flesh does extend to an amazing extent.
Of course it does hurt a little at first, but as soon as it starts sliding all the way in, you feel nothing but excitement. And you have only one wish: to do it again. And when it is over, you can proudly say you did it:

Some things cannot be!

It would appear that badgers have declare war upon the cuteness that are squirrels. They are hell-bent on war, under the tyrannical guidance of *rml-stock and =CoRayBee

Want reasons to join the fight, then read wikipedia:
1)"[Badgers]also prey on [...] insects, including bees"!
2)You will also learn that they are related to skunks.
3)You know they are plotting dark plans in their burrow and you feel it is your duty as a citizen to protect us.

My life:

I am nearing the end of my summer job and it is already time to go back to uni in less than a month... Next may, I will hopefully be done with my master's degree. I know it's great, but I am only 21 and I feel that I am rushing to a place even I don't know. I want to sit back and take my time, to live outside of the studies...

So a British friend and I come up with a crazy idea. Since she too will be finishing her master's next year, we talked about taking a year off, maybe two. We'd travel Europe since we are both language-freaks. We would stay 6 month in Germany since we both speak German, then 6 month in Holland for me and 6 months in Spain for her. The plan is basically to be fluent in the languages we already speak (which is why I am going to Holland and not Spain). Then we let our Finnish friends convince us to spend a year in Finland (a year would be necessary since we do not speak the language at all except for a few words). I rule out Russia even though I would like to ameliorate my Russian (mainly because it is outside EU and I'd need a visa).

So this all sounds funny and everything, but the point would be to get decent jobs abroad, something that could look well on a CV, not being a waiter for instance. So with these high expectations, we might actually never go anywhere outside our native countries, but still, it is nice to talk about it even if it never happens. I really wish I could travel... Would I have the money and the motivation, this is another question... I actually wish I could spend my life travelling and learning new languages, but this obviously isn't an option. Hopefully I'll be able to do at least a littl...}}
