I kind of doubt anyone reading this was wanting to buy me a gift for Christmas, but here's a thought just in case:

I am in love with Pseudopod, Podcastle, and Escape Pod (that's right, I get around). Their stories go with me wherever I go - when I have to travel out of town, when I'm walking my dog, when I'm feeding the geckos. If anyone wanted to "get me something," it would be completely awesome if you thought about donating any amount to any one of those three (I listed them in my order of genre preference but they're all sister groups and all excellent).

I smell bad, or at least I will soon!

Last year, =NycterisA sent us a really nice gift basket with foody items. My favorite was a bottle of this dressing; holy cow is it ever good. Not made with dried gross garlic bits like most store-bought dressings; real giant chunks of garlic float around in this stuff XD

This year she joked that she was going to just send me a whole case.

Imagine my surprise when I found a case of it on my doorstep XD Hehehe. Thanks Nyc! As soon as my tummy stops doing the cruel things it's doing I will be dining on salad and pasta and marinated pork chops and marinated whatever else I can find and dipping crusty bread and and and :q

...if my family weren't being a bunch of jerks. I am tired of being sad about them. Bleh. I really want desperately to just curl up under a blanket until they all start playing nice. Iiiit's not gonna happen though. I am kinda not dealing with this holiday season very well. I'm sad about everything.

...now's the time to order. There are new Dragon Bells in there, a few dragon bottle cap ornaments, etc. I wanna make sure I can get these items to you in plenty of time to decorate for your holiday, and I have a couple orders going out first thing tomorrow morning, so things could go in the mail superfast if you order something this merry evening Tonight I'm going to try to get a few teeny tiny stocking stuffers made because people seemed to like those. Not sure which animals I'll make though.

Also, I updated my gecko site with new hatchlings and prices on just about everyone, and new pics were taken today.

Was gonna say something else but I done lost mah train of thought. I did put up my tree last night and I'm trying so hard to get into the Christmas spirit! 2009 was a really tough year and I am ready and willing to leap into 2010's arms and give it a big hug.

One other thing, I'm kiiinda looking for things to add to my Amazon wishlist... I could use a portable game to take when I need to travel since my laptop is pretty much dead. I have a DS but have discovered I don't get thrilled for the many puzzle-type games and RPG stuff the DS proliferates. I really want a game more like the New Super Mario Brothers, stuff like that. Platformers and adventure type stuff, not so much "OHFRICKHURRYCLICKHERE okay you're okay NOWCLICKTHISANDDIVIDEBY42" and "cool you got this awesome weapon, now you need to level up 29 times." If you can recommend something that's more my speed for the DS I'd be grateful! Other games I enjoy are like, Sly Cooper, Ratchet and Clank, stuff like that.

I know, I know, I shouldn't browse Petfinder, I already have the dog I wanted, but this little guy popped up near-ish to me. He's supposed to be put down tomorrow morning if he doesn't find a foster home. [link] I know they can't all be saved, but after spending the last few months with my goofy little shelter dog, I have a soft spot for spotty Catahoula mixes now. He's even around my Parker's age. It's not in my budget to take on another dog but maybe someone out there can help?

In other news, after contracting a Thanksgiving cold, I slept for 12 hours straight and feel better-ish. Gonna finish a few commissions and then get to work on holiday items.

Edit: And okay the advertising on the top of the page is annoying but I'll survive, but what really bothers me is that today's ad says "40% off Vert Zip Hoodies." Is... that opposed to some other fashion trend called Horizontal Zip Hoodies? I'm just imagining unzipping a hoodie and the bottom half of it falling around your feet.

Or perhaps just the bottom 40%.

I just got a box full of boxes! They are shipping boxes just especially made for shipping live animals like... geckos! I could not afford to buy them right now but my friend Ashley (AKA Berry Patch Geckos) sent me some. It was a definite pick-me-up (and seriously these boxes are not cheap). I need to buy some heat packs... it looks like weather is not so great around here for shipping geckos (night temps are getting close to freezing) even with a heat pack but if we have a warm spot, look out

My life is so lol right now. Guys... okay everyone has rough patches. This is my little nutshell right now:

- grandma in and out of hospital, now tentatively out, living with nurse aunt
- grandpa on other side had quad bypass, got pneumonia while in hospital, they gave him a tracheotomy, then had to cut his side open so they could put food in that way :/
- mom and stepdad moved far away, JB has abandonment issues, yadda yadda
- brother went insane, got kicked out of his home by his wife, tried breaking back in, got caught by cops and thrown in jail for drug possession
- alcoholic dad who had little to do with me for most of my life started dropping hints that he'd like part of my liver, I mean... whoa whoa whoa we are entering zombie territory here but it is not a joke
- my own health is doing stupid things

I can only kinda laugh right now because if I don't, I will bloody my head from thumping it against the wall.

Anyway several days late, I hope you all had a fun Halloween. It's generally my fave time of year but I wasn't much in the mood to celebrate or create :/ I am getting going today on Christmas items for the old Etsy.

I haven't been on much lately. Having some depression issues and some health issues. I'm on some meds right now and they kick my butt - taking the dog to the park or on a walk wipes me out for half the day.

I'm worn out, my grandma isn't doing well, but they moved her from hospital to a senior care facility. I spoke to her today and am going back down there tomorrow to visit again. She sounds like she's losing it and it breaks my heart. She's in so much pain. They're having trouble getting rid of the infection.

I'm not feeling so hot either, I've had a soreness in my side all the way from my hip up my ribcage to my underarm/front chest - I thought maybe I pulled something but it's not going away. I guess I should make a doc appointment but I really don't want to think about what it's gonna cost if it's something serious.

Ughhh anyway if you like you can visit my Etsy, money's a little tight right now so any purchase is met with great thanks!

And because we all need a little happy, I have a new vid of my dog doing some tricks (including catching some terrible frisbee tosses, man I suck) [link] He's a little over 6 months old now and is about 40 lbs. grandma is back in the hospital (yes again). her leg swelled up to about twice its normal size due to her heart not being strong enough to pump fluids around anymore. also, she has a mrsa infection in the leg.

hey also the doctor just let her know that she has a lump and it's cancer.

i just really am tired. she's been sick with so many things and it frustrates me so much to see one person hit with so much. it's like she's been dying for half of her life. she pretty much said she's done fighting and i just want to cry. hearing her so depressed is terrible. she used to be such a positive person and it's like the light is all gone.

Just got news that my mom's house sold. She and stepdad were living about 2.5 hours away, now will be moving 10 hours away. She used to live 10 hours away, moved 4 hours away, moved again to the 2.5 hours away spot she's at now. It's what they want, cost of living is killing them in this state, but I'm sad because she's really the last "close" relative I have and she'll be far enough away that the cost and time for travel will prohibit many visits.

I spoke to my grandma, who has been living with them for years. One of her other daughters, who'd said she'd care for grandma if my mom moved, has reneged so now my grandma either has to go far away to live with my mom, which she doesn't want to do, or find an assisted living home. I think this is what led my grandma to make the decision that she is not having the final heart surgery she needs; without it, the doctors say she may not make it through the year, but there was only about a 50/50 chance of her making it through the surgery which might only add a few years to her life.

I don't know, my grandma has always been there. We lived with her when my mom and dad split up. She took care of us when mom had to work. I don't like to think of her not being around. It's a part of life, I know, I know. I just feel like everyone is leaving me again (hello abandonment issues, it's been a while) and I am kinda bummed and feeling even worse because I know it's because of my selfishness.

PS when sad things are happening it is absolutely the worst time to watch the series finale of Six Feet Under, specifically, the last ten minutes. I can't remember the last time I cried so hard.

People who are either too thick to understand that my little story/blurbs for my items are tongue-in-cheek, or people who have just lost (or never had) a sense of childlike wonder and feel the need to bring others down to their gravity-filled (nod to =NycterisA) world. For example: Yes, people. I know the gears and screws in the Pixie Gears/Screws pendants are watch parts and are not, in fact, coming from inside my navel. You do not have to keep telling me. Do you think you are uncovering some great secret? Please go sell your "no Santa Claus" propaganda somewhere else

Something better: You guys HAVE to check out the auctions is running on ebay. Her work usually goes for much more than the prices she's starting these auctions at. I am in love with Seaglass Hope Pendant, and she's also got a few other items there. PLEASE go visit and support an amazing artist. I would be following my own advice but I desperately need to replace this computer.

Things I shouldn't do when I am depressive: Watch Six Feet Under. Also: should not click on "in memory of" parts of pet forums. Someone had posted a Postsecret card that said essentially, "I work at a vet clinic. When pets are being euthanized, people are given the option of staying. Please stay with your pets. They look for you when you leave." I am most assuredly a moist baby because I have been crying about that on and off all day.

Happy thoughts, happy thoughts. People keep asking about the dog. I don't like flooding with pics of him otherwise I would be posting his pics every day. I took some new ones yesterday (most of them are poor quality, I apologize - I was shooting bugs with my macro so that's all I had on-hand) and I figure little harm comes from linking them in my journal. I love Parker so much. He is a huge blessing to me at a time when I needed it. I missed having a dog. He's curled up at my feet as he usually is when he's napping. He's letting me sleep all the way through the night without needing a potty break and comes and gently puts a paw on me when it's time to wake up to take him out. If anyone has further guesses about his breed(s) I'm all ears (and so, as you will see, is he). He is about 5 months and around 33 pounds. We were leaning toward some Catahoula leopard dog but who knows.

I've been pretty down today and yesterday and I am probably going to have a few more days like that. This is a warning to steer clear of the JB because she might sob on your shoulder and leave a snot-trail if you are silly enough to get too close.

I am about out of gears and things for cute critters. My old supplier of tiny watch gears etc. seems to have dropped off the map after getting some shoddy feedback, so I went in search of another. I have found one, but they sell rather large bulk orders and to be honest right now I don't have a ton of $ to toss around. I can order about 1 lb. of these mini watch bits (this includes wheels of different kinds, balance wheels, springs, screws, essentially I am pretty sure this is where my previous seller was getting their stuff) for $120 shipped to me.

Would anyone - preferably within the US - be interested in halving or thirding this order with me? I'd have the package shipped to me and separate it out to you. (I also have an ounce-weight scale so I can make sure the split is 100% even!)

I could order 1/4 pound instead but that will still end up costing me about $50 because of their shipping charges urrgh. I can be trusted to ship your stuff to you (please see my feedback on Etsy!) and NO I won't dig through it and take "all the best parts" because holy crap I'm not a douche. Let me know? Now I know how fanfiction happens.

It is disturbing to go from Kingdom Hearts to God of War and back. It is my current opinion that when that useless duck Donald dies, he should put a little more bloody (literally) effort into it.

Aside from that, the graphics are so far separated it takes me a while to downgrade my brain to get back into KH after God of War. It is kind of a shock to the eyes to suddenly be dealing with chunky childlike backgrounds after lovingly tearing a man's head off and placing it in a perfectly-sculpted keyhole.

Kratos barely grunted, twisting the head, the decrepit tendons snapping like thin laundry line left for decades in the weather. He moved lithely toward the chiseled doorway, the corpse's now-dismembered head cradled almost lovingly under the crook of one arm. "'Keyblade' my ash-covered ass," the Spartan rumbled, jamming the head home to the keyhole. Sora's eyes grew wider, yes, wider, wider than anyone ever thought possible, his stupid anime head nearly exploding under the strain.

(Now you know what sound terrible fanfiction makes when it's being born. You are correct, it does sound like vomit hitting one's shoes. You're welcome.)

Playing Kingdom Hearts for the first time (so I'm behind the times, who cares - a friend sent me the game so I'm trying it out or I wouldn't have it)... leaves me feeling odd. I know I'm missing out on a ton of backstory, having only ever played maybe two hours of Final Fantasy something before I decided I hated it for being boring. I actually sat there for the first half hour of KH cutscenes and intro seriously wondering if Sora was male or female. And then wondering if we really need that many confusing cutscenes to start a game. It's a fun game as long as you're fighting people or doing a quest, but the side quest games and timed crap can go explode off of a cliff, I've always hated that kind of stuff.

Anyway, this useless journal brought to you by an excessively slothful and yet much-needed four-day weekend with Hickory, who needed it even more.

So some of you know that I used to draw a webcomic. It was a silly thing and I started it because I needed an outlet for some of my less happy feelings that I had.

I got burned out, tired of people telling me which way I should do things, complaints when one character did something, complaints when I didn't update every day, etc. and it just wore me down and something that was originally mostly for me became a chore that I dreaded.

Then the site got hacked, and the computer I was drawing the art on went into expensive death throes, so I just kind of ... swept it under the rug.

A few really industrious people have however been working on revamping the site - they got the archives back up and running, got separate pages looking nice. The kindness they've shown has gotten me to kind of wanting to get back at it - even if it's not in 100% the same format (goofy yuk-a-day weirdness). I've had a ton of fun writing the tiny stories that go with my pieces and I would love to think of a way to incorporate my comic's characters into small stories like that. I just am so afraid of touching it again because I don't want to burn out on that aspect too.

Also, the drawing computer is still dead, and this one is on its last legs. Doing art of the drawing kind is really difficult on this machine because it bogs it down like whoa :/

I dunno, if you want to help me replace one of my computers so I can try to get back at it, visit my Etsy, request an item, etc. Please send me an e-mail with requests; I am notoriously awful at remembering who said what in deviantArt comments and notes. I'm hoping to eventually have around $900 for computer + a new tablet (my old one is quite beaten up and doesn't always work well, and nothing induces me to working on something like having new art supplies). I have a case already (one of my geek friends said it should do fine for the new build), and a nice monitor, it's all of the guts of the computer I'll need

(Good stuff first! Then Grrr)
I am really really thrilled that the Puggon has been purchased ^___^ I had SO much fun making him, I was hoping someone would love him. I don't like to post publicly who's bought what unless they give my permission (especially as it might be a gift etc.) but you know who you are, thank you so much!

Yesterday my throat was hurting - after 2 days straight of rain and having to walk a puppy outside in said rain, I was feeling the brr deep in my bones. I went for broke and collected all of the candles in the house I could find (a total of 20) and lit them all in my small bathroom, drew a bath, and just... indulged. 20 small candles really heat up a small room pretty quickly. It was lovely. Yes, I'm a candleholic.


Now the grr:
I'm bummed that it seems the shoutboard for those had turned it off temporarily has been removed. However, =fogllama showed me a different way to feature others' thumbnails, so now you can visit my front page for my random features XD

To those of you who have purchased something from my Etsy, could you pleeeeease return to the shop and leave feedback? And if you have a problem with your order, please let me know? I kind of tend to assume that if you don't leave feedback, that something went wrong or you were unhappy. I've made a few sales lately and according to tracking they've arrived, but I've been hovering at 99 feedbacks for aaaages! I am like Monk! I need that 100!

I am also feeling like it might be fun to make very simple, very easy-to-understand videos on YouTube for those people who cannot follow the simplest of instructions for keeping their geckos safe. It sucks that there are so many other idiots on YouTube counteracting any work I've done on there... ie, the moron who decided to house a day gecko, leopard gecko, crested gecko, and collared lizard all in one tiny 20-gallon tank. So now I get people asking me if it's OK to house a crestie (arboreal/low temps) with a leo (desert/higher temps) or telling me to go F myself if I do speak up and say it's not safe, and I want to punch a million people. It's disheartening! The "cooler" you are when you do something (I guess housing four vastly different species together in a tiny cube is "cool") the more people will listen to you.

I wish I was cool.

a huge round of thanks to those of you who replied to my whoa-serious-business post from a few days back. Whether you shared something similar or somewhat similar that you are going through, or just offering support or an ear... I really, really appreciate it. It really sucks to know that other people have to go through this kind of thing, but it helps in a way too to know you're not alone in it.

I would reply to every single comment left but so many of them were so heartfelt that I don't think I can find the proper words. I've thought about responding over the past few days and it just brings me back down to keep thinking about this stuff, so I am going to just say thank you very much. I read what -everyone- had to say (just fyi, I read every comment on all of my journals/submissions). It's hard for me to share with friends irl because not many of them are going through anything remotely similar and it's difficult for them to know how to deal with it. Like "whoa JB just unloaded a whole steaming dumptruck of crap right there, what do I do with that." It makes me feel worse to talk to someone about these things and make them feel awkward about it!

My laptop croaked a while back, and now my desktop is on its way out. One of its drives has started making an "errnt" noise repeatedly if I leave it on for a few hours.

Edit photos (this is a big one, I may download 100+ huge photo files from my camera at once, which bogs the current machine down)
Video editing to a small degree, nothing huge
Watch movies/listen to music


I already have a perfectly good monitor, don't need a new keyboard or mouse. The cheaper the better, I have a semi-local Fry's I can go to for parts if Newegg or whatever doesn't have what I need, and I have someone who can put the thing together for me. But I am dumb as far as parts go. Any help would be mondo appreciated!

That "completely fed up" journal last week did actually want to start out as seriously, me being fed up with certain things but I just wasn't in a good place mentally and decided to keep it to myself for a while so I could compartmentalize.

I feel like sharing today so if you want to read on, feel free.

I got a call late one night last week that my uncle had been in a bad car wreck. He sustained some head trauma, and in the hospital when they hooked him up to the machines and meds he stopped breathing. Doctors were like "wtf?"

Come to find out, he stopped breathing because the meds they put him on were having a little tete-a-tete with the tons of drugs and alcohol already in his system.

This is... there isn't a word I can think of that mixes "frustrating," "disappointing," and "angering" appropriately enough. This uncle spent so much of his younger life in alcoholism and drugs - I remember once, as a child, on New Year's Eve, being at his home and hearing a yell, and running into the kitchen to find him on the floor having some kind of drug-induced seizure, people yelling about putting a spoon under his tongue, no, no, spoon could break, use a wallet. Calling the ambulance. I remember crying and saying "It's a joke, right? Not real, get him up?"

My family is filled to the brim with substance abusers. I lost a different uncle to substance abuse. My grandfather lost his life quite early on to the toll alcohol took on him. My father is currently hoping for a new liver because of what his own alcoholism has done to him. Aunts drink too much. One of my 18-year-old cousins has a drinking problem. My brother, my only sibling.

Car-accident uncle did start to breathe on his own. He had been clean, supposedly, for possibly close to 15 years. My grandmother poured her soul into being there for him, to help him get off it. My mom and their siblings cried a lot over it and did what they could to help.

He claims he's recently relapsed due to depression regarding the current economy.

When he recently visited my mother's house he went out to the garage to "have a smoke" (most of my family are smokers too) and while he was out there he drank a few beers and tried to hide the empties in my mom's birdseed container (apparently he thought it was a trash can). And then tried to blame it on his own wife.

I'm just really tired of dealing with it. Part of me likes to pretend that possibly there is a "substance abuse gene," something that makes you more susceptible to it because it just makes it easier to accept that there are so many, pardon the language, completely fucked-up people surrounding me. It's hard to think that so many people would choose to do this to themselves, all in one small group.

I'm tired of not feeling comfortable talking to my dad. I haven't spoken to him since ... April? March? He chose drink over his kids long ago. I don't hear from him unless I call him first, except on my birthday. He calls then.

I'm tired of being ashamed of my brother. In a recent whatever-induced rage he beat his wife. Don't know where he's living now. I hope she did not allow him back. I don't talk to him either anymore.

I feel like I don't belong to these people. The dark robes they put on to make themselves feel better make me afraid of them, and sometimes afraid of myself, because hey, maybe I'm one bad day away from my first step into alcoholism. I'd like to think I have more self-control, but something must have pushed each of these people into it, eh? How did those old commercials go? These photos are from Centralia, Pennsylvania. If you don't know the story of this eerie little town, a fire was sparked in its coal mine many years back and it continues to burn. Most of its inhabitants have long since fled, but there are still a stubborn - or strange - few that hang in there. The crack running through its main road widens every year, issuing smoke from below. Thoughtless tourists paint "clever" graffiti about it being a crack to hell, and throw trash into the fissure.

Those of you like myself who are fans of Silent Hill probably know that Centralia was an inspiration for the game series.

Essentially, I like fantasy genre, much sci-fi, Britcoms are hit or miss, anime is hit or miss. I am weird and like crime dramas, stuff like Dexter (or real-life documentaries) about broken-minded killers (no sick thrill out of them, I just find them kind of fascinating). I am OK with the occasional "serious movie" but if it's gonna make me cry (and everything makes me cry haha) I prefer them few and far between just because I get emotionally wrecked over movies, they will seriously bring my mood down for a week. Relationship movies can take a walk.

If you've got some recommendations let me know! New movies that just came out are good, I don't really go to theaters anymore on account of Netflix. We don't really watch TV much anymore so we miss "COMING TO THEATERS SOOOOON" type commercials. No idea what's been out the past few months.

PS Parker is doing great - we're falling into a good routine and he's only had a couple of piddle issues in the house (all of his big potties have been outside, GOOD DOG). Good thing we planned on putting off replacing the carpet until our dog's out of puppyhood XD He is learning "Sit," and "Wait" and the release "Okay". He is very toy-oriented and worked on "Sit" the best when I was holding a toy for him to focus on. He has learned that the hose is a fun thing because waters come out and waters are fun!

I am mega mega surprised Tim-cat is not caring much about Parker! He is afraid of everything. It's the bitchy princess Charlie who is usually bold as brass that won't go near him I think it would be so cute if Parker and Tim would get to be buddies eventually. You guys are great, I know Parker isn't everyone's cup of tea but it's nice of you all to be so kind about him We had a good first full day together - he slept for 4 hours last night, I woke him up to potty, slept again for 4 hours, pottied again, got walkies by Hickory, and then I played with him a lot. He is GREAT at fetch already - I hold up a ball or tuggie, say "Watch!" and he looks up, I'll throw it, and he'll (usually) bring it back.

Friends brought over some treats and toys for him too! It was like a baby shower, hahaa.

And it's so funny, my mom is so excited for us to have a dog. She has a sheltie she loves to death though so she knows how it is. Her sheltie is the nicest dog ever.

Anyway here are a few more pics. He doesn't sit still for long and if I sit down with the camera on his level he wants to a) nose the glass or b) eat the strap (gonna coat everything including myself in bitter apple tomorrow haha). So I took what I could get. [link]

He seems kind of mellow for an aussie or what I was told an aussie would be like, especially once he got used to Hickory and I, so perhaps he is mixed with something a little lazy. He has kind of short wiry hair instead of the floofy hair aussies seem to have (in the ones I've seen anyway).

He is especially mellow for a 3-month-old. He whines a little but I cannot blame him for that.

His favorite pastime is stretching out in the grass to make himself as long as possible, and standing on my feet instead of the wet grass when it rains

We are gonna take a couple of weeks to adjust to each other and especially to a puppy schedule.

for I have found the dog for me.

We went to the shelter a half hour away, after seeing last night that they had listed a new dog on Petfinder. It didn't have a pic, so I just said, "We'll go, see what's up with this shelter, see if we like the place," and didn't expect to like the dog because we are so friggin picky.

I told the lady what I was looking for, and she told her co-workers, "Go get Glacier." So they brought him out.

He is an aussie shep mix, blue merle type short coat, 1.5 blue eyes, and a total asshole (he tried to eat some of my jewelry and my car keys) as all puppies are (he is only 3 and a half months or so).

I love him.

We get him at around 5 tonight.

I am so nervous!

I have had a really crappy past couple of days. My friend =NycterisA had a bad "day" a couple of days ago too. I know a lot of people that are struggling as well and it's just soul-breaking right now.

Some good news - the young lady who had lost so many of her animals in the air conditioning incident ended up with over $1400 in gifts and then donated animals as well. The community pulled together for her, that was good to see.

I also really appreciate so much everyone who has been visiting my Etsy, especially those of you who leave feedback after. It is really spirit-lifting to realize that some people like my work enough to pay for it, and enough to come back and let me know they do like it.

I woke up, checked my e-mail, and had a message from SirRonLionHeart on my YouTubes XD The guy gets tons of messages a day, and he either remembered the one message I had sent him months ago or went back and re-read it, sent his hopes that I was doing better (my message had let him know there was some junk going on but that his videos made me happy like a kid again) and invited me to play on his forum. The last part makes me suspect he probably sent messages to everyone but I was still like "eeeee"

He is currently doing Let's Play videos on FFIV if you are into that sort of thing. [link] is his YouTube Channel.

His playthroughs of Zelda games are still my favorite though ^___^ And the crazy Mario hack where his cousin Natalie shows up.

So Hickory was sweet and willingly took me to some of the "local" (1/2 hour drive or more) shelters since he got off work early today.

I almost came home with a pug mix (which I think are ugly dogs), a pit bull (which I don't really think are very attractive either but they usually have such fun personalities), a German shepherd girl (okay I like sheps but I prefer when they're mixed with something), and a lab mix who was just surrendered last night because her owner could no longer afford her. She had "eyeliner" around her eyes and was otherwise yellow.

All older dogs when I was hoping for a young dog.

Oh and two more cats. Because I have two already and having more is obviously a great idea right. It just made me so so so sad that there are so many cats that need homes and so many of them were even adorable kittens oh my gosh why. I walked past an orange-striped kitty's cage and he stuck out his paw and just held it there like "please come back I love you"

I got overwhelmed and started crying about not being able to save them all, because most we saw were in a "kill" "shelter." So my brain locked up and I didn't trust myself to make a good decision.

The shepherd girl was probably my favorite. She at least knew the sit command and had big bat ears. She whimpered once when either Hickory or I went out of sight after petting her. She was just ... old and had some mobility issues. I really was hoping to find a friend that will be able to do long walks and bike rides with me and not hurt. I just feel so guilty right now for not taking her home. I don't think my house is big enough for two dogs or I would think about getting her and then the "young dog" of my dreams.

I'm really getting tired of dealing with animal shelters, and I can see why people turn to the ease of buying puppies from pet stores.

Most shelters ask that you do not call them (they are generally groups with different families fostering different animals from their organizations, so calls about temperament etc. are best answered by the individual families, but they don't want to give family phone numbers out in case of weirdos). Some even boldly state "IF YOU CALL US YOUR APPLICATION WILL BE REJECTED."

So you are mostly left to the whims of e-mail services and those who may or may not check their e-mail often.

Several times, I have found a dog that suits our home. It takes a lot for me to like a dog since I am so picky.

All times, I e-mail as the organization has asked, and I have my hopes like way up because hey doggie, this dog, I want to meet this dog, he is adorable.

Each time, my e-mail either goes unanswered for days before they get back to me and say "Oh yeah he got taken by someone else a few weeks ago actually" (in which case his listing should have been removed promptly so suckers like me did not get their hopes up), or they never get back to me and just quietly remove the listing (some of the dogs have been listed for months, so it's either a cruel joke that someone is playing on me, following me around to snatch up dogs I like just as I find them, or, more likely, the shelter forgets to remove a listing until they get my e-mail about it and are like "OH WHOOPS let's just quietly remove that without telling anyone heh").

Really? Is a prompt (ie, within 2 days) "this dog has been adopted already, our apologies" that hard? Removing the listing the night the dog is adopted is very much work?

I am trying to do the right thing by adopting instead of buying. People who are running the shelters near me are not making this easy.

I know I sound excessively bitchy but I get really invested in animals, I have been looking forward to having a dog, and I am tired of being jerked around.

I can't stop clicking on all of this shelter's videos and watching them. This guy seems so mega-awkward-silly with the animals. [link] That dog is like STOP IT.

(I have a bias against mustaches on their own in regard to facial hair though)

(I'm really sorry if you sport a mustache but when you have had not one, not two, but three father figures with mustaches it becomes the least sexy thing in the worllllld)

Anyway, I keep finding dogs I would love to meet but they keep getting snatched up before I can get to them. This dog is a shepherd mix about an hour away from me and I am trying to convince Hickory that he could be worth meeting.



EH? EH? (I do not have any experience with shepherds/shepherd mixes so I am not sure he would be a good fit but I would love to meet him.)

We have money for the dog itself (bonus with most of the shelters we've looked into, they include puppy shots, neutering, and microchipping), we have most of the amenities (seriously nothing is sadder than empty puppy crate, doggie bowls, leashes, and collars... I have poop bags for walks too but it's OK if those are empty for now), researched food and know what we'd be using, we've got The Emergency Vet Fund (and regular once-yearly vet fund), and training classes all squared away, but if you were holding off on purchasing anything from my Etsy, now would be an awesome time because if we do find the dog we love, we want to make sure he has a lot of stimulating toys.

If there is something in my Etsy you like but it is a bit out of your price range right now, make an offer in Notes I would especially love to move the Satanic Gecko, the cookie jar dragons, maybe a hedgecog or two?

To those who put in orders for art cards yesterday, I should have them done today or tomorrow at the latest!

I just looked at the top of my main dA page and it says who gave me the current subscription ^___^ I don't think it's always said that.

I was cleaning out the garage this weekend - Hickory is a bit on the "let's just put that here" side when it comes to cleaning so we had... piles of tools, I don't even know how that happens (don't ask how long it took me to rearrange his socket wrench set so everything fit where it was supposed to).

I ended up finding a bunch of things to freecycle. Here's the list, and don't look at me like that.

Cleaning out our garage, we found some weird things and some useful things.

Some items have been in storage for a while and may need a wash.

A: Small cooler w/radio built in
B: 2" tall black & white number/letter stickers, not a whole set
C: 2 sets of drawer-sliding hardware (ie, the rails a drawer would slide on)
D: Mini hot glue gun and nearly 100 sticks for same
E: Folding CD holder/document keeper for inside car
F: Mini basketball
G: 9 quart plastic pail
H: Sterilite plastic tub (12"x16", ~6" deep)
I: Hand rake, trowel, and 2 large, 1 medium, and 2 small plastic plant pots
J: Step-on weeder (supposed to let you pluck weeds without bending)
K: Car washer nozzle for regular hose
L: Small "emergency" blanket to keep in your car just in case (says Electric
Systems on it)
M: 2 plastic padded bleacher cushions (again, say Electric Systems on them)
N: Sidewalk chalk (used but there are probably 10 good big pieces in there)
O: Three 3" halogen light fixtures + hardware, good for under cabinets and such
P: Wide sprinkler (has a timer function but I didn't test that to see how well
the timer works; sprinkler part works fine)
Q: Time-A-Matic water control for hose (don't know if this works, still in box)
R: About 2 pounds of thistle seed

And in the "I don't even know where the heck these came from but I suspect
gnomes" category:

S: George Bush Sr. commemorative coin
T: 2 pairs of play handcuffs with keys (don't even ask, I seriously don't know)
Please come and relieve us of some of these items that are apparently breeding in our garage.

So yeahhhhhh we'll see if anyone actually shows up to pick the things up. I made the mistake of posting them yesterday, I forgot weekends are usually slower on our freecycle.

I have been scouring Petfinder for a pooch that really grabs me. I found another one I loved last week, right in my town, but as soon as I sent the application, he was taken off Petfinder because he was adurpted. He had a lot of siblings, and we went last night to a meet-and-greet to see them, and they were puppy-cute, but none of them really were "me." I know that sounds awful, I mean I should accept any dog who needs a home, but I'm frickin' picky.

They did have a 10-month-old husky mix, big ol' dog, and he was so sweet! [link] But in the interest of Hickory who has never really had a big dog, I would prefer to start at the smaller end of the spectrum and let the dog grow with us so he can get used to it. I did have dreams last night though that the husky mix was mine. I wanted to hug him forever. He has a weird eye, the left one at the top of the iris is stark white, not blue, so he has a way of looking surprised when he looks down at your shoes XD

Hey guys, this is kind of a tragedy in my leetle gecko circles - someone I know from a gecko forum has lost a ton of her animals due to her AC croaking while she was out of town. I know, a lot of folks think of reptiles as hot-weather animals, but the geckos in question are cooler-weather animals and excess heat is a killer.

I am just recovering from my own vet bills so I don't have a -ton- to put toward the cause, but if any of you have seen something on my Etsy and were waiting for an excuse to pick it up, now would be an AWESOME time, so I can collect some funds together to help her rebuild at least some of her collection. If you desire something which is not in the shop, it does not hurt to shoot me a Note and ask if I can make it.

Two more Hedgecogs (silver and gold) are on their way into the gallery as well so keep an eye out for them.
