I was looking through some drawings here on DA yesterday, and it actually shocked me that so little people give credit when they used someone's photos as a reference I mean, personally I'm terrible at drawing without reference, and I am so grateful for stock photographers and other wonderful photographers who allow people to use their work as a reference. I just make sure I give credit any time I use someone else's photo as a reference picture. So I really don't get why some people don't just take the effort to write down that little line in the description, saying where they got the reference from It really annoyed me, especially cause I found an art thief as well.. so I just felt like ranting for a little while, sorry

Anyway, enough of that On a more cheerful note: It's my birthday today!! Gosh, I'm beginning to feel old.. I do love birthdays though, not because of the presents (which are always nice to get, of course ) but because it's just one of those days where I realise just how wonderful my friends, roommates and family really are. I truly feel lucky to have so many wonderful people in my life I've never had so much to do on my birthday before I had classes the whole day, and I have a presentation to prepare before tomorrow, so I didn't have that much time to celebrate with friends and family. So we'll be doing that this weekend

I'm also working on a new drawing, which is taking a bit longer than I expected.. But I know I'll be able to finish it sometime soon

I hope all of you guys are having a wonderful day!!

Clubs and groups:

I came back from my vacation in Sweden and Norway a few days ago, and I’m still exhausted We have been driving all over Scandinavia it seems, and on the way back from Denmark it took us 13 hours to get home.. But driving a lot also has a lot of advantages We’ve seen a lot of amazing fjords and fells, and also lots of beautiful lakes and mountains. I’m sure going to miss the gorgeous nature of the north, but I’m also certain that I’ll go there again really soon
This year was actually the first time that we had 3+ days of rain in Scandinavia, but you know, I’ve always been more of a dancing-in-the-rain kind of girl (which I did only a few times.. I mean, I don’t tend to do that a lot in public ) rather than someone who keeps wishing for sun.. so I just made the best of it. I’ve had so much fun that I didn’t really care for any bad weather. After all, rain’s just nothing more than a free shower, isn’t it? So I didn’t really mind that. Although I did dump a glass of soda on myself twice, within 5 minutes actually.. which wasn’t that much fun I mean, I dump stuff on the floor and on other people all the time, but I don’t usually dump that much stuff on myself. But anyway, considering that that was my least fun part of the vacation, you can imagine it was a pretty great holiday

So having travelled as much as we have, I didn’t really have that much time to draw anything Not that I didn’t want to, but after all those hours of driving, on most days there just wasn’t time to draw. I got the chance to finish one drawing, which is more than I expected.. So as it is, you can imagine I just can’t wait to draw more in the next few weeks

I have made a few photos, and I’ll make sure to upload the ones I like best really soon Also, I’ve got quite a pile of messages and deviations waiting, so I’ll try and answer all those as quickly as I can Apart from that I have 300+ deviations waiting to be viewed, I guess I really am watching too many people I really don’t think I’ll manage to get all that finished in one day, so that’ll just take a bit more time

I hope all of you guys are having a lovely holiday!

Finally I’ve got a few weeks off!! Which means I’ll have time to draw again. It’s been so long since I had the time to do so, and now I’ve got a whole week until we’re going on vacation. Which means I can draw as much as I want I’ve got a preliminary sketch waiting to be completed, so I can finally work on that
My last week of vet school was just crazy. Apparently having only a few weeks left is enough reason to give us a load of work to do I’m pretty much exhausted, but that isn’t stopping me from celebrating!

As you’ve probably noticed, I’ve decided to just go ahead and upload the giant wolf drawing anyway.. I honestly wish I could bring myself to work on it more, I just hate myself for having this little patience, but I don’t think I’ll ever finish that drawing So I’m calling it finished, even though there isn’t much of a background, and there isn’t nearly as much detail in it as I wanted I’ll try to do a better job next time I make a drawing this big

Well, just in case I don’t have time to write another journal entry around next week: I’ll be going on vacation for 4 whole weeks! We’ll leave on july 8th for Gothenburg (Sweden), where we’ll travel north, to the northern cape. From there we’ll go south in Norway to Olso, and take the boat back. I’m so excited to go to the northern cape again, we’ve been there only once before, and it was so amazing. Especially on the way there I’ve seen so many beautiful landscapes and towns This time we’ll be travelling from Ed to Orsa, Östersund, Arvidsjaur, Enontekiö, Honningsvåg, Alta, Krokelvdalen, Stokmarknes, Kabelvåg, Fauske, Namsos to Skeikampen and finally Oslo. Haha, I know this probably doesn’t sound the least bit familiar to you guys, but in short it means we’ll be travelling a lot

But before we’re going, I have this entire week off to do some cleaning, some cooking of difficult recipes which I never seem to have time for after class, and of course drawing I have a couple of things in my mind that I definitely want to draw and paint this week. I haven’t painted anything in a while, so that’s bound to be interesting

Well, that’s pretty much all for this journal I hope you guys are having a wonderful day!

I just got back from Germany this week, where I enjoyed a whole two weeks off I wasn't really sure if everything would turn out okay, cause I also bought tickets to the Elf Fantasy Fair that week, but I managed to go back to Holland for one day. So I still got to go to the fantasy fair, and I also got to spend a lot of time in Germany, in the place I love the most in the world Not without trouble though, cause the public transport in Germany wasn't really great the day I went back Which is why I ended up in a hotel in Münster by myself, because I missed the last train to Holland I had to take the first train to Holland to get there a bit on time.. But all of that didn't really matter cause it was totally worth it

I also finally read Twilight last week, and finished it in one day, which never happened before Besides being addictive I still keep thinking about thay story, it just kind of stayed in my head even after I finished the book, it's completely ridiculous I never read a story that kept me this captivated before, apart from the Bitterbynde trilogy by Cecilia Dart-Thornton. I'm wishing I had the money to buy the other three books in the series as well.. But as it is, I'm going away for the weekend in two weeks, with some friends of mine, and I just know that's going to be expensive (besides lots of fun of course )

Anyway, I haven't had a lot of time to draw anything these past few weeks. My huge wolf drawing is pretty much finished, but I'm thinking I might still want to add a background to it So unfortunately that will take a bit longer.. I will finish it soon though, don't worry

Hope all of you guys are having a wonderful day

I know I’m a bit late in saying this, but I just wanted to wish you guys a very happy Easter!! I hope you had a lot of fun yesterday!
We went to my aunt and uncle’s house with the entire family (well, my mom’s side of the family) for Easter brunch and high tea. Which meant lots of great food (omg even including banoffee pie!!! ) cause for some reason everyone on my mom’s side of the family is a great cook. Unfortunately I have the appetite of a gerbil, so I couldn’t eat that much... In the afternoon we hid some real and some fake eggs for our nieces and nephews to find, which of course resulted in a fake egg-fight with the entire family. We also painted eggs of course, and also glued on some of those tiny furry easter chicks (not always in one piece). They didn't end up looking pretty, but rather kind of scary So all in all it was a pretty fun day

So, it seems like it's a tie between me drawing a whole herd of horses and a wolf Wow.. it isn’t going to be easy for me to decide, cause I really want to draw both concepts. I think I might just end up drawing both in any case But I do have to figure out what to draw first. I’ll just have to wait and see what I feel like drawing once I’ve got some reference pics for either concept.
Either way, I can’t wait to start drawing again! It seems like it's been so long since I last had time to do so. I also have a great idea for a painting as well, so I won’t have to be bored this week, that's for sure

Anyway, the weather has just been great this week, so it’s truly spring! (finally ) It’s a good 20 (68) degrees outside, so definately great weather to sit in the sunshine and hear the birds singing Only a week left until we'll go to Machtlos, which is just the prettiest place I’ve ever been to. I can’t wait

Hope you guys have a lovely day

Last week I just had the best day since I started vet school better ones are to follow, that’s for sure, and I can’t wait for that either In the course called clinical diagnostics we learned to do the initial research of a horse’s health. Meaning, we learned to assess, not perfectly of course, we still have a lot to learn to actually draw conclusions from stuff like that… but anyway, we learned to assess a horse’s breathing, lymph nodes, heart beat and pulse, as well as take it’s temperature and see if the coat is in good condition. Now we knew there were some things you can’t really feel the first time you try, and I for example couldn’t really find those lymph nodes yet until about the 6th try But I was able to feel the pulse almost immediately, which was really cool

On Thursday I got a kind of nasty surprise though.. well not exactly horrible or anything, it’s not as bad as it sounds Anyway, I know this is going to sound such a silly thing for me to say, and the last thing I want to do is bum you guys out. But it’s kind of an intro to something more interesting, which is why I’m telling this
So anyway, I was just browsing the internet on Thursday evening, and I came across this picture that I didn’t expect to see.. a picture of the guy I’ve loved in the past, and I still have feelings for, as it turns out.. I mean, it was 3 years ago. I didn’t really expect a mere picture to have such an impact on me, I thought I was over him So I’m completely disappointed with myself, I hate him for still having this effect on me, and I’m really sad I’ll never see him again because he’s in a whole other country. So, depressed as I was at that point, a real gloomy feeling came over me, while I’ve actually been looking forward to this month all year.. But on the bright side, I’ll be going on holiday to the most beautiful place in the world and I also have the entire week off next week, so I won't let this thing upset me

I know you’re probably not used to me sounding so negative huh? Haha, don’t worry though, I’ll be just fine (I’m already feeling a lot better than I did on Thursday ) I just think I still need a little diversion, so I decided I’m going to make a drawing at A1 size, and spend all of next week on that. In stead of watching cheesy movies and eating chocolates, which I usually do in this case, I’m going to spend my time somewhat better. I’m not sure if I’ll finish a drawing that big in a week, but at least I’ll be busy with something fun and meaningful

So here’s the part of this story that’s interesting to you guys! Because I know I want to make a huge drawing, but I don’t know what I'm going to draw yet, I just wanted to list a few options I’ve been thinking of (the regular ones, so nothing special.. ) So if you have a favourite among them, please comment, and I’ll draw that which has the most votes So basically, the subjects I’ve been thinking of are:

1.	Horses (either one or more, or even a whole herd.. I’m not really sure yet..)
2.	A cat / kitten (same thing here )
3.	A wild animal, I’m thinking a wolf or a big cat (tiger, le...

There won’t be a lot of words in those songs.. ‘hello, thanks, you’re welcome and goodbye’ sounds like a hit, I’d say

Also, on a more serious note.. I read this thing in *aixado’s journal, which really freaked me out. I’ve heard of stuff like this happening, but I never imagined people stooping this low. I’m always on guard for this kind of thing, but I never expected junk like this to come from veterinary medicine as well.. I don’t mean to sound all negative and scared and such, but I think it’s better to be safe than sorry. So, especially when you’re a woman, please read the story and take a mental note of what people are really capable of. Cause you never know if this might happen to you, or someone you know. In any case, please be careful and safe

So, as an update on what I’ve been doing in vet school : We’re actually taking a course right now that teaches us what to make of a first impression of an animal (I believe I mentioned that in my previous journal as well) I already had one day of learning about horses, cats and dogs, and more days like that will follow The horse we learned stuff about actually used to belong to the queen (of Holland ) So finally I’m learning all about animals again! I mean, don’t get me wrong, book learning is necessary and interesting, but this kind of learning really makes me feel like I’m being taught how to be a vet. This is really the stuff I can use later on

Now, something you didn’t know yet Every Saturday I work in a local retirement home, and I bring coffee and breakfast in the morning. I always love to talk to the people there, once in a while, and listen to all they’ve been through in their lives. And even though it’s insanely busy sometimes (we’re kind of understaffed, mostly because of too little government funding for healthcare and such, I believe ), I always go home with a smile on my face, knowing I made a difference in these people's day . So it may be because of my job, but I was especially moved by the poem I read in *Deb-e-ann’s journal. Even though I (and a lot of my colleagues with me)...

So when I get home I hardly have time to draw or spend time online for anything more than checking deviations (which have really piled up over the last few days.. I must be watching too many people )
But there's a bright side to all this learning, soon I'll start examining animals. Not animals that are sick, I'm only a first-year student, but we're going to learn how to evaluate an animals breathing, temperature, lymph nodes and all kinds of cool stuff.
So I read this tag thingy in ~Ethelle's journal, and thought I just had to use this in my journal. A nice way to get to know me a little better, I'd say (for those of you who want to in any case, I'm pretty weird) And seeing as I haven't been tagged, I will not tag anyone else

1] Post these rules.
2] Each tagged person should post 8 facts of themselves.
3] Tagged people should write a journal\blog about these facts.
4] In the end tag and name 8 people.
5] Go to their dA pages and comment saying that they are tagged.

1. I just love, and I mean loooove banoffee pie. You can wake me up at any time for banoffee pie. Seriously! I mean, you can't wake me up for a lot of things, I hate people waking me up for practically anything and you'd risk getting a pillow up your nose if you'd wake me up in the middle of the night for nothing, but for that you can wake me up. Honestly, I promise. No pillows if you do

2. I'm scared, more like terrified, of balloons. I have been for as long as I can remember, but if you'd give me the choice between a tiger and a balloon I'd pick the tiger any time. Evolutionally deranged in any case, but balloons just really freak me out. I mean, who ever came up with the idea of blowing air into a weird rubber thingy anyway, and tying it shut so it can pop and make a lot of noise if you squeeze it a little bit too much I used to be scared of geese too, being chased by a bunch of them when I was a kid, but now I'm not anymore, as much..

3. I have one sister, who's also in vet school. Fun huh? She's a long way ahead of me though, starting her internship next year.

4. I have a private jungle at home With that I mean loads of plants in my room. They seem to like it there I guess, and they grow all over my stuff. Not that I'm that great at taking care of plants, they just don't seem to die..

5. I've got a really weird accent when I speak English. No Dutch accent, just a semi-Brittish weird kind of accent. I can't explain that, I must have watched the bbc too much when I was a kid. I can't talk English that well anymore though, unfortunately

6. My family is absolutely huge. My father is the youngest of 11 children, so I've got about a hundred relatives living in the Northern part of Holland. There's actually a road named after our family, because there were so many of us living there.

7. I'm probably one of the most clumsy people you'll ever find. I drop just about everything I get my hands on. When people make the mistake of asking me to carry a pie to the fridge I drop it.. in the fridge. I can't walk into a store without knocking over something, I fall up and down the stairs constantly (more so up the stairs than down). I don't have bad luck or anything, I just seem to miss a part of my brain that's for equilibrium or something.. that would explain a lot

8. While I was on Terschelling (this tiny island in Holland) on field work, I named a sea gull 'geit' (meaning goat ), and bought a stuffed whale key chain which I named after the sea gull. I still have geit on my keys right now, but it's always difficult to explain why I'd name a whale goat. People never get it, but it seems quite obvious to me.

So anyway, I didn't quite know what to do with the last one, as you've probably noticed. I kind of ran out of inspiration around fact 5, so.. Well, my next journal will be a bit more interesting, I promise

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Edit: Just as a short update on what I've been doing: I've moved into my new place on campus I actually moved there in one week, now that's got to be some kind of record, especially cause I had to buy all my furniture and stuff the week before that. Anyway, I've got pretty much all I need, except a scanner/printer.. So I can't upload my work at any time I want to, but mostly on...
I actually wanted to update my journal around christmas to wish all of you guys very happy holidays and a happy christmas, but as it turns out the days before christmas are just insanely busy With all the presents that had to be bought, and all the food that had to be cooked I just didn't have time to be on DA at all. So I'd just like to say I hope you had a really great christmas (and got lots of presents of course ).
I also want to wish you a very happy new year, in case I don't have the chance to update my journal any time soon I've got to say that this year has been absolutely great for me, especially since I've joined DA and seen all the amazing work you have on here. I dare say I even improved a bit myself, with all the help and inspiration I got on here. So for that I want to thank every one of you very much
As an update, I'm still trying to finish this huge painting I'm working on.. I want it to turn out perfect, and being a perfectionist perfect isn't easy to achieve. So I might just call it a day and post it on DA, but I have the feeling it still needs a lot of work. I might take a break and draw something in pencil every now and then, cause paint just ticks me off most of the time, which means more will be on the floor than on the canvas. Okay, I'm exaggerating a bit there, but paint really isn't for me. I prefer pencil any time, but sometimes a bit of colour is fun too. So it'll take some time before that painting is finished
I'm also going from furniture shop to furniture shop trying to find a cheap couch and bookcase for my place on campus. Which I wasn't able to so far.. So christmas holiday is pretty busy this year
My (kind-of) vacation is coming to an end Unfortunately I got a lot less done than I wanted to over the past few weeks. Other stuff just came up every day, and when I did have time off, I spent that being lazy, shame on me I did work a bit on this huge painting, which I started on about a month ago, but I didn't get more than 10 hours of work done and now it's just sitting there. It seems like I'm physically incapable of spending longer than 10 hours on a single painting or drawing. It's just depressing.. I've decided to put the painting away for a while and start working on it again around christmas. I am going to start on a drawing tomorrow, which I hope will progress better than the painting did.
I also got a place to live on campus from januari 6th, so from then on I'll have more time to draw (and study of course, I didn't forget about that ) cause I have to spend less time traveling. But it also means that I'll have less time up to januari, cause I have to buy furniture and such..
Anyway, I read this in ~Ethelle's journal, and thought it would be pretty fun to fill it in as well XD Don't think too much of the answers, they could be pretty weird sometimes
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

1. Do You sleep with stuffed animals?
Well, I have a stuffed potato bug on my bed, but not in my bed.. so does that count? I did use to have loads of stuffed animals when I was growing up, they're just in a box under the bed these days, rather than on my bed..

2. Favorite wrestler?
Favorite what? I can't say I know any wrestlers

3. Pictures or posters better?
I do love pictures, the old fashion kind. The digital kind I just store on my computer and for the most part never look at them again. I like posters as well, but I don't have much room on my wall for posters anymore XD

4. Have you ever changed your name?
Nope. Not that I didn't want to, but I just didn't think it was worth it. I mean, it's just a name.. and not one that's completely embarassing, just one that's difficult to pronounce.

5. What are you going to be when you grow up?
A vet, obviously

6. Can you sing or dance?
Sing? Well I could sing pretty good when I was younger. I didn't really practice a lot after that though, so now it's just loud and off-key XD I can't dance well either.. just basic skills in that, nothing fancy.

7. Have you seen 'The Princess Bride'?
No I have no idea why, I should have seen it!! I want to see it, so I'm getting this movie

8. If you could name (or re-name) a color, what would it be?
Ooh I would name the colour between yellow and orange. People tend to name it yellow while it's actually more orange, which annoys me to no end. Say, mellow yellow?

9. What animal are you most like?
A cat, probably.

10. Do real men wear tights?
Some of them do. Not any I know, that I know of. It can look reeealy nice, but also really weird. Nothing in between there.. As long as they're not pink with ruffles you can still be a real man when you wear tights. Just pick the right occasion to do so..

11. Do you gamble?
Oh no, I'm waaay too unlucky and I'm terrible at math. If you give me a few bucks to gamble, I can say it'll be gone faster than when you'd chuck it out the window.

12. Did you like G.I. Joe when you were little?
G.I. Joe isn't something we have here.. Similar stuff we do have, but I never played with any of that. I liked my little pony No, seriously.

13. Legos?
Oh yeah! I built a huge house with a friend of mine when we were 8, now it's in a box in the attic.

14. Did you ever forget you were supposed to meet your boyfriend/girlfriend somewhere and didn't show?
Nope. I forget more stuff than anyone you know, but I didn't forget that.. yet. I do tend to be late when I'm meeting someone.

15. Are you still with that same boyfriend/girlfriend?<...

Well, not that I would.. much in any case.. Anyway, I can remember that birthdays were just the best day of the year.. that has died down a bit in time, but it's still fun ^^
And yesterday it was actually snowing here. And a lot too! (for as much snow we get in Holland..) Nice gift I'd say, it's never snowed so much around my birthday. I just love snow, it's so white and puffy and cold seriously, I love walking in the woods when it's snowing, the trees are so beautiful then.

I wanted to draw and paint a lot on my days off.. Which I did. I just didn't get to do as much as I wanted. I'm working on a huge painting right now (well, one of 50 x 60 cm) and it took up all my time. About 10 hours of it anyway, I've been way too lazy these past few weeks.. I've never spent so long on a single painting though, so you might say I'm improving The background already took me 8 hours, so I really hope this painting will turn out okay..

Well, I've got to say I don't think I will be adding any more cat-a-pillars to my journal. My thoughts just aren't as random as you'd think, go figure..
I've got some spare time the next few weeks!! Which means I can finally start drawing again, which I haven't had the chance to do since autumn break. I've also uploaded a few pictures I took on vacation in Germany, and figured while I was uploading photos I might as well upload a photo of me as well Please don't laugh when you see it. I'd love to make a painting with a great background as well, so that's my project for the next few weeks. I've had a lot of inspiration while studying for exams (which is when I get most of my inspiration, go figure.. It's always pretty frustrating knowing exactly what to paint or draw and not having time to actually paint or draw)

As an update on how things are going in college.. Well, since autumn break I've learned to handle some other kinds of animals as well: dogs, cats, pigeons, snakes and ferrets (which were just the cutest animals ever ) I also had my first two exams, which were a lot easier than I imagined them to be, which was a relief..
Don't you just love autumn? Okay, you need to look past the rain (which you can't get away from in Holland). Those yellow and orange colours are really starting to appear outside, so it's about time to go out and get some autumn leaves for your table I might be the only one who does that every year, huh? Oh well

Autumn break is around the corner (tomorrow actually), and I'll be in Germany for most of it.. So I won't be able to be on a lot next week. I've changed my schedule a bit so I've got some days off. So during those days I'll have time to draw again
As for college, it's busy as ever.. We need to learn a lot (and I do mean a lot ) of Latin terms in anatomy, and we're still learning to handle different kinds of animals. These past few weeks we've also learned to handle cows and sheep, and I have a bruised left leg to prove it xD Besides that we also had to pick up rats, mice, guinea pigs and rabbits the right way (which was a lot harder than it sounds ) I have to study a lot next week to catch up on the classes I'm going to miss. Well, so that's all about vet school for this week

Mr. cat-a-pillar is on autumn break, collecting leaves

\ /

. / \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \
.

Edit: Ooh I want to thank you guys so much for the 3000 pageviews!! You are all just so nice and such amazing artists, I'm dedicating my next drawing to all of you for all your help and support

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I just came back from my holiday, and already I have 100 messages waiting! Of course I never mind getting messages, but it'll just take a while for me to get through all of them. So that's why it'll take some time for me to reply
And for some good news, I finished the drawing I made for you guys! It's called 'Dance'. Okay, making up titles isn't my strongest point though I did make a real background this time (the scanner just won't pick up much of the detail..)
I'm really starting to feel I'm being trained to be a vet. When I was studying biology I learned loads of stuff, all very interesting of course, but I couldn't see how I would use that knowledge later on. Well, my first few weeks of vet school have been great. Really busy as well, but besides the classes that teach cellular stuff we also got to look around at the farm at the faculty, where we will learn to handle pigs, sheep, cows, horses and such.
Next week we'll really start studying horse behavior and such, of which I already know a lot , and I also saw a piglet being born. Just our luck, it took some time for the rest of the piglets to be born, so we only saw that one. It was pretty cool though
Today I only had to milk cows at the Tolakker (Tolakker is the name of the farm ), which was really exhausting but also lots of fun. I'm sooo tired but I can't wait to learn more. So on to the next weeks!!
As for today's cat-a-pillar (oh yeah, I'm keeping this up you don't have to read it of course)
'Having long legs might help you run faster, but it'll make it harder to buy pants.'
\ /
_/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/
~~~~~~~~~~

Edit: Oh no, I got tagged!

Dear Celvaya (uhuh, no mistake there )

I don't really know how to tell you this, but our romance is over.
Just checking in to let you guys know what I've been doing over the past week. First week of vet school was pretty tough but still a lot of fun. I'm bummed out because I have to take a class I already know 90% of.. I also had to dissect a piglet, which was very educative (the poor piggy died at birth, so this time no animals had to be killed for us to learn.. Oh well, it's still the only way to learn sometimes.) I need to get up at about 6:15 am, which is way too early for someone as lazy as me Despite being really tired I still know I made the right choice going to vet school.
I haven't had much time to paint or draw yet, but if homework goes well today I'll be able to do something this afternoon

Well, that was pretty much my first impression of my first week of vet school. And since I have a lot of room left in this journal entry I want to do something new (and weird). I'd like to introduce a cat-a-pillar to my journal. Don't ask.. I didnt get much sleep last night, so I'm in a weird mood Besides meowing and chasing balls of string, mr. cat-a-pillar is just another way to put down random thoughts in my journal, and a way to get a bit of colour up here. You don't have to look at the weird caterpillar if you don't want to

Anyway, as for today's random thought: "Even though they have worms, eating
fish is healthy" \ /

Tomorrow will be the end of vacation, and also a whole new start for me.. I've been studying biology for 3 years, and now I have my bachelor's degree I'm going to vet school. So quite a change, though I'm happy I finally got to do the thing I wanted to do most A new year of college will also mean that I'll have much less time to draw and paint. So I'm afraid I'll not be able to upload as much as I did this summer..
Anyway, even though I might not have as much time as I'd like, I'll still draw and paint whenever I have time to. Which will probably still be every weekend I'm kind of bummed summer holiday is over, but also excited to start vet school at last.

Also, I'd like to let you guys know of a stock account I often use pictures from (like some of you have probably already noticed ):
This is a great place to get horse pictures to use as stock or reference. So far I have never needed to find another stock account to get my reference pictures from. The quality of each picture is great, and there is a very wide selection. So it's definately an account that's worth checking out. For my latest painting, called 'Free' (in loss of a better title ) I used a stock picture as well

~~~~~~~
Edit: Ooh yay, I see my profile has passed 2000 pageviews today!!! Thanks you guys so much, you're all so great!
I would like to make this journal entry a bit different than my usual ones. I realized that many of you guys have gone through much to get to where you are now, when it comes to your art; and it’s the same for me (though I might not have been through as much as many of you). Therefore in this journal I’ll describe my history in drawing and painting, from when I started to draw to where I am now. So just sit back and relax, cause my story isn’t such a long one
I loved drawing for as long as I can remember. In elementary school I mainly liked drawing Disney characters, being born in ’87 does have an effect in that respect . Some of the kids found it weird I was drawing all the time and made fun of me because of it, you know how it is.. You also know what this kind of people tend to grow up to be and it isn’t much, I’ll tell you that. So up to High school, that’s pretty much all I thought about drawing.
In High school things changed.. For the first few years, taking an art class was compulsory, so when it comes to that I did still draw and paint. This art class wasn’t something contributory to good work, if you know what I mean. The assignments we had to do were mostly not to encourage creativity, but rather to repress it. The teachers weren’t of much help there either. Probably being overworked and close to burnout they didn’t pay much attention to the work they had to grade. It seemed more like they were grading the person rather than the art. People who somehow got onto their nerves got a C or D, one of the teacher’s daughters got an A or A+. Such was the way of things there, and being rather subdued myself I usually got a C+ or B, regardless of how much time and effort I put into my work.
In senior year I wanted to make a change. I had my heart set on getting into vet school, and for that you needed good grades. So I started working harder on improving my artwork, as you can guess, to no avail. Still the Cs came pouring in. I decided the last piece of art I made would have to be one to remember. It would have to be an A+, cause getting an A+ would improve my grade, and therefore my grade average dramatically. Working weekends and free periods on this I was sure I could get an A+ for that. Somehow though in that time I managed to upset one of the teachers, on the last day no less: So I got a C. That was pretty much the last straw for me, and after that I didn’t draw or paint for 3 years.
That wasn’t the end of it though. Being interested in fantasy books and art, I have joined a fantasy forum a few years ago. I hadn’t drawn anything for two years at that point, and after a year of seeing the fantasy art on that forum I was so inspired I decided to make a drawing: 1 drawing (and not a very good one at that ). I wasn’t satisfied with the way the water turned out, so I wanted to ask for help. Including receiving that help, I was asked whether I wanted to help in making some sort of book containing fantasy art. At that point I decided to start drawing again, feeling inspired I accepted, and spent my entire summer holiday drawing and painting.
So that’s my story. It turned out to be quite a long one anyway, so it’s a good thing you’re sitting back and relaxing This is a story I’m only going to tell once, so my next journal entries won’t be as long, I promise
On a final note, I would like to bring to attention two of my fellow biologists and classmates:
Paula de Moor: a very talented fantasy writer, who also makes a lot of Elder Scrolls fanart. Those of you interested in fantasy literature and art should check out her gallery.
Marinde Out: a zoo photographer, who makes some of the nicest animal photo’s I’ve ever seen. Definitely worth to check out as well
Now that was fun! I think I'll be featuring more of you guys in the future <img src="http://e.deviantart.com/emoticons/a/aww.gif" width=...
I hope that makes it more fun to see a picture, because you know a little bit more about what's in the picture, rather than just looking at a pretty landscape
As much as I've been drawing and taking pictures in Norway, at home I'm not drawing as much as I'd like to.. We've been painting the livingroom, so as a result, I can't draw downstairs anymore. I do really want to make one drawing today, so I think I'm going to search for a new drawing-spot, rather than wait until the livingroom's painted. Being home has it's advantages, but drawing tends to go quicker when you're somewhere else..
I also changed my avvie!! It turned out people found it difficult to identify, so now you can actually see it's a cat
Hope all of you are having a great holiday
______________________________________________________________________
My Sponsors and friends
* www.pinguins.info
* www.catterynehumkaegpond.com
* mainecoonforum.come2me.nl
You guys are such amazing artists and it's such a joy to be able to learn about new techniques and styles like we can here on DA.
So I would like to say thank you so much for everything I'm making a drawing to dedicate to all you nice people. May your pencils stay sharp!!
As an update: I've mainly been submitting pictures from Norway in the past few days.
I'm back from Norway, and it looks like I've been missing a lot of stuff on here. Loads of deviations are waiting to be watched and I see everything on here has changed, just when I started to get used to working with DA. Oh well, I'll get the hang of it soon enough
I've taken loads of pictures while I was in Norway, and I made some drawings as well. It's going to take a while to get all of it submitted, so I'll be uploading a lot of stuff this week. Since some of you were curious about the drawings I made, I've uploaded those first of all. hope everyone's having a great holiday
I'll be in Norway for the next 3 weeks, so it'll take some time for me to post the things I make. I'll also try to make some good pictures while I'm there. So if I don't reply for some time you'll know why.
Don't hesitate to comment on work and such, cause I will get back to you. It'll just take some time I've printed out some wonderful reference pictures, so I'll have a lot to do in any case.
You guys have all been so great in the 6 weeks since I've joined DA!
Have you ever seen a picture on a wegpage you wanted to draw or paint more than anything, and it keeps turning out wrong? Oh yeah, I have one of those: African lioness and cub, on pinguins.info. My best try of painting that picture still didn't turn out the way I wanted it to. So that's sort of my holy grail I haven't tried drawing it in quite some time, so I'm ready for another trial soon. Lets hope that one turns out somewhat better.
I finally got around to getting some of my poetry up here . I know it's not too great, I wrote all of it a long time ago. It's about time I wrote a few more poems, but I'm just so busy drawing lately I just don't have time for writing anymore.
So temperatures have gone back up over here, finally. And I have to stay inside to get my thesis done, go figure. I've been so busy with college lately I hardly had time to draw and paint. So I have 1 commission just lying around, staring at me.. it's really starting to annoy me. I want to finish it, but I don't have the time.. Only a few more weeks until summer vacation. I can't wait!
______________________________________________________________________
My Sponsors and friends
* www.pinguins.info
* www.catterynehumkaegpond.com
* mainecoonforum.come2me.nl
Pfew, I think I'm getting the hang of this. It took some time (I'm pretty slow, I know ) but I understand more of this now. I've updated my gallery, so I now have separate folders. So I at least have some order in my stuff. Okay I know, I don't have much on here yet but it's nice to have order. Order is good. Ahum..
Well, the weather's changed for the worse. Not too happy about that, painting outside when it's raining isn't a really good idea. So I'm back inside, and I have a lot of work to catch up on. I never do much homework when the weather is this nice, so now I'm really behind. Go figure.. So anyway, I want to take as much time off as possible to make some more pencil drawings. Which always turn out the best when I have some music on in the background. So now I'm stuck inside for a while I'm going to make the best of it.
I think I want to draw a raccoon, raccoons are cute. Well first another cat, and after that a raccoon. Okay, decisions are hard to make. I have so much I want to do, and not much time to do it in. I'm glad I have two days off, I'll probably be able to do both. Weekends are the answer to all great questions...
Okay, this is hard for me to figure out. I'm trying stuff out to see how this really works, I'm not a computer wizard, as many who know me know all too well. So it's going to take a while before I get all this under control.. I finally got a few pictures online, I'm so smart
The weather has been so great these last few days, I decided to go painting outside. It started out great, but then loads of bugs came flying by and got stuck in the paint. It took me ages to get them out. I love painting outside though, apart from the kamikaze-bugs and the occasional wind. Love summer
