IN OTHER NEWS,
I'm sure a lot of you have heard about the big blizzard that hit the central east coast. Well, I was up visiting

at the time (and desperately hoping to see

too, dangit!) for all of twelve hours when I realized that I would have to hightail it back home to keep from being trapped with Dhevil & Family for Christmas. But despite my best efforts I still got stuck in the middle of the snow storm on some back country highway and nearly got stuck in the middle of nowhere. Luckily, I abandoned my car in a lot and managed to make it to a hotel in my hometown, but I was trapped there for two days. I'm kind of glad it happened. It was really neat seeing the entire city just stop and hold its breath.
Still, it could have been a lot worse. A lot of people had to sleep in their cars ON THE HIGHWAY. Hooray for our state's sucky road plowing team.
So to get HOME, on the third day I had to choose what I really needed, then carry it about a mile to my dad's hospital and bum a ride off one of his coworkers. Gaw, that stuff got heavy but the half mile mark. (Though I'll tell you it's a strange experience, walking down the middle of a major road so packed with snow you can't even see the pavement. With about every other person in the area doing the same thing you are. S'funny. You meet a lot of people when you're all in the exact same situation.) A very nice paramedic named Alan gave me a ride. (I was privately hoping he'd use an ambulance, but no go.) I managed to make it as far to the hotel where my mother had gotten trapped when she was out doing ERRANDS, and stayed another night there. And then this morning my dad finally decided the roads were good enough to venture out on and came out to get us.
So now I'm home safe and sound and kind of irritated I didn't get to bother Dhevil as much as I wanted. I didn't even get to see Arfeeeee!

"And then I found $5" is an expression people in this area use when someone thinks they've told a boring or pointless story so that it may appear to have a point. I didn't really find $5. For example:
#1: "So I went to the grocery store today to get milk but all they had left was 2% and I only drink skim! So I figured I'd get a Snickers instead to make up for it but they were all out of THAT, too!"
#2: ...

So hey, One Question finally updated. *headdesk*
ANNOUUUUUNCEMENTS!

Firstly, A HUUUUUUGE thank you to the people who purchased artist proofs!! I can't even express how appreciative I am. I didn't get rid of many of them, but I'm much better off than where I was before in terms of Chrismas shopping funds. Thank you, thank you!

I'm afraid I can't sell any more proofs at this point, as I will not have any time to pack or ship them in the coming days. I'm afraid I'm a very busy dragon this holiday break, and I wouldn't be able to get them in the mail to you at a decent time if you ordered them now. I would feel just awful spending money I hadn't yet earned if that was the case, and I don't want to be in that situation. >_<
I'll put up another poll after I go back to school and see if anyone will still buy any, but for now I'm taking down the Artist Proof Journal. After a little bit of consideration, I've decided that I won't be doing any other $10 Pen Commissions either.

Secondly, I am now on Christmas Break!
While this may be a prime opportunity to catch up on projects I've been putting off, finally finish those prizes for the Dragon Persona Contest, and catching up on 1Q updates, my dad pointed out that I spend pretty much EVERY school break doing these things, and I am pretty burnt out. So as of right now, all I am aiming to do is ship out these print commissions and maybe get the prizes ready for scanning, not much else. I really want to actually ENJOY my last Christmas vacation by not doing much of anything.
Ergo: not many arts from me for awhile (except maybe a Christmas picture).

Thirdly, HOOOOOOLLLEEEE poo we're 200 hits shy of 100k?! WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN. There's no way I'm going to get that picture done in time. *headdesk*

Right now I'm offering some special commissions done in pen and ink, very much like these:

These are very quick and easy to make, so I can finish them in about three days from when I get your information and references. They can be portrait and/or upper body drawings of anything you like.
There are going to be an unlimited number of slots available, so there is no waiting period.

I'm also considering selling my artist proofs from my screen printing class. Artist Proofs are prints that I didn't include with the official edition that was graded because of minor printing errors (such as patching, mis-registration, and blotting). They would be about $7 - $15 each (these prices cover shipping costs). Some of the proofs I would be selling include Dracula, Wolf-Man, The Mummy, The Bird and The Fish ([link]) and a sketch from my London Sketchbook.

JUDGES:

How judging worked in 200 words or less: After looking all of the entries for a couple hours, I managed to narrow it down to thirty. I gave this list of thirty to ~Dhevil-Hunter and ~The-Other-Molly, who were each told to pick their favorite ten. This narrowed the list down to eight. ~one-t-only and I then sat down together and meticulously analyzed each one, which cut it down further for five final entries. From these five, the two honorable mentions were chosen. The remaining three were sent to =Yuritsuki to see, and from those three she chose the first place winner. The other two placings were decided by myself.
This was an INCREDIBLY difficult decision to make. In fact, discussing the final three entrants (before sending them off to =Yuritsuki), all of us nearly got into a big fight about who should win!

PRIZES UPDATE!
Because all the winners were so spectacular, I decided to go ahead and draw a prize for everyone who won!
Honorable Mentions will now receive a headshot pencil drawing of their designs.
Third Place will receive a full body pencil drawing of their persona.

WOLF
1. Um. Would you believe Wolf was originally called Wolveress? MARY SUE MARY SUE MARY SUE. Thankfully, I quickly realized that this was the LAMEST name in the EXISTENCE of X-Men Mary Sue characters and changed it to what it is now.

2. Haha, you'd like to know.

3. Mary Sue => Somewhat Okay Character. Originally Wolf had practically every super power there could ever be found in a single ~~human being~~ mutant. This could not go on, so I had to try and find a certain ability that would still incorporate many different talents and abilities. She was also extremely bipolar, swinging from highly sociable, cheerful high school girl to moody and angry emo kid.

4. Wolf can't write. She can read fine, though.

RILWER
1. Fantasy Name Generator (.com). Originally, it was Rilwar, but Rilwer sounds and looks nicer, I think.

2. Rilwer was going to be my half bard character for a DnD campaign that never actually happened.

3. At the start, Rilwer was a total ladies man, a love 'em and leave 'em kind of guy, but as he introduced more and more of himself to me I realized it didn't entirely fit with his character. And here's why:
Rilwer's mom was a human servant and his father was an Elven Noble, in whose mansion/house she worked. When he found out she was pregnant, he not only fired her but destroyed all evidence she had ever worked for him to begin with (illegitimate children of High Blood Elven Leaders are more than a blemish on the political record, so to speak). This caused Rilwer's intense dislike against not only his biological father, but all elves and the love 'em and leave 'em types. Though Rilwer still flirts and makes extremely raunchy suggestions at every girl who strikes his fancy, he just enjoys leading them on more than actually doing the dirty deed with them.
This has led to many awkward situations when he finds himself alone with them.

4. Rilwer is ambidextrous.

2. I had this weird dream one night about a giant spaceship and a race of winged humanoid creatures that served a giant brain at the center of the ship. I know it sounds weird, but it was actually kind of cool.

Alright, so! Due to popular demand, I decided I'm going to hold a Dragon Persona Contest!

Concept:
Create your own Dragon Persona!
You've always wanted one, and now here's your chance! For this contest you will be designing an alternate form for yourself, specifically as a dragon.

Deadline:
How does October 31st sound to everyone? I am perfectly willing to grant extensions if you feel you'll need more time. Leave a comment with a link to your entry in this journal or send me a note to officially enter.

ENTERING:

To enter the contest, you need only to draw a full body version of your dragon persona, and in color. Something kind of but not exactly like this:

If you are also entering a Full Draconian version of yourself (explained below in the guidelines), I'd prefer it if you included it alongside your persona so I can see them right next to each other.

Guidelines:
Note that I am using the term PERSONA and not FURSONA. Your design should reflect YOURSELF. Let's look at mine as an example.

"Cheeko" was created when I was in high school, right before I started my online comic. I didn't want to post real pictures of myself online, but I still wanted a face that readers could address. Instead of making a dragon that was scaly, reptilian, or intimidating, I stuck with a more leathery, softish look, because I saw myself as none of those former things. Similarly, when you begin to think about your design, you should try capturing how you see the essence of yourself, your personality.

Similarly, you'll want something that will be easy for you to draw in repetition. Lots of details and colors will look impressive, but when you have to draw it eight times for a comic page you might not be so attached to it then. I wouldn't use any more than three or four base colors. But these are just suggestions more than anything else. Feel free to make it as intricate as you like.

I just finished the last commission on the list last night (I just need to wait for the payment to come in before I post it -- it's nothing personal, I promise, Vlad!) So that means I'm open to take commissions again. However, two of the slots were reserved beforehand, so I only have room for one more to work on this week. The first person to note me will get the slot. It's easier to keep track of things that way.

Good Lord.
Clickmon terrifies me. I saw his last round with ~Spirogs and was incredibly impressed -- the rather dark style and violent nature of his win, however, threw me off a little. And I was quite shocked when he killed off his opposing artist in the end.
I DON'T WANT TO DIEEE. CLICKMON, turn me back into a dragon when you BEAT MEEEEEEE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.

Weeeell. Here we are. After saying up until two or three in the morning every night for the past week while on a cruise with my family I have finished Round 2! HOWEVER. Since the ship charged $.75 a minute for internet access, I was never able to freely browse my opponent's gallery to get a better feel for their characters. Luckily, I had saved their reference sheets to my computer, but even then the information was sadly limited without the handy dandy artist comments.
I'd like to extend a formal apology to

, my opponent, at this point, for many reasons:
1. Kheller was totally misrepresented and inaccurately on my part. I had him pegged as a psychotic killer who truly enjoyed the art of the massacre (and I remembered reading at the beginning of *clickmon's audition, "I don't remember making you so nice...", so I went on that, too...). He's actually a really nice guy, very selfless but just GETS IT DONE without any regard to who gets in his way. Cool character.
2. At several points Dylan's tattoos fade in and out of view. This is because I just did not draw them in on the page. Dumb. *headdesk*
3. *clickmon gets a growth spurt! Who cares if they're actually really short? And I got their eyes wrong! Dots are better than plus signs anyway!
4. Terrance didn't get to do enough. Argh.

Click did a really fantastic job. I thought 14 pages was hard... Guess what? 60 must have been even harder! All the characters were spot on (ESPECIALLY MASK! Never have I seen such superb writing concerning the fellow. EVER.) and the sheer amount of DETAIL and number of cameos made me want to curl up somewhere and beat myself in the face.

1. The next page for my

comic is almost done. When I first wrote it I was in an extremely hyper mood, so drawing the panels now I'm wondering what the heck I had sniffed that day and where I can get some more. Expect it up tomorrow or the day after.

2. I've been cleaning out my gallery, and MAN I didn't realize how much junk I had in here. It still needs some clearing, we'll see how that goes.

3. I'm doing some pro-bono work for the Royal Anthropological Institute! If any of you are in London and go to Anthropology Day at the British Museum, there should be a pamphlet in the package they give you with my art on it (and maybe my real name too gasp).

4. I did some line work for

a little while ago for her comic and she recently posted the colors for that page. Her colors always make my work look really spiffy even when it isn't, so I highly recommend that you check it out.

I got here yesterday but they've really been keeping us busy with a lot of walking tours to familiarize us with our surroundings and with each other. This is the first chance I've been able to sneak onto a computer, but I had to borrow someone else's adapter for my computer, and I have to return it before she gets back.

I was in the car today and my mom insisted on playing these really old radio programs from the 20s and 30s. You know the ones: Lights Out, The Shadow, The Whistler, etc. Old dramas and horrors you'd "watch" when the radio was the TV.
And one of the programs started as follows:

"The last man on earth sat alone in a room.
There was a knock at the door."

The story that followed was immensely disappointing (and I won't tell you until the contest is over for the sake of preserving the "purity" of the entries), but those first two lines really stirred my imagination. Who was on the other side of that door?
My challenge to you is to tell the story that follows these two sentences. Any length, any genre, any sort of writing. Just write. Spin me a yarn. Have some fun.
There is no formal judging; my friends and I will decide which one we think is the strongest. I will illustrate the winning piece with three drawings.

Coolest idea for a meme ever. I'm all over this.

Okay, so. Another meme has started its circulation around dA again, and although I've done it twice before I'm a huge sucker and gotten involved again.

My brother bought me Super Mario Kart FOR THE WII and it just put me in the best mood! I had just come from the dentist and minor surgery so that just perked me up in the best way. I LOVE MY BROTHERRRR.

Thank y'all SO much for your critique of my recent deviation, the anti-fur poster. To be honest, your feedback is better than what my professor gives us. The final version should be up in a week or so.

Also: Watchmen. I went to the midnight premiere yesterday and thought it was generally okay. It was very, very true to the book (except for the very end) which I liked, but the incredibly graphic sex scene and pieces of violence didn't really appeal to me. Not cool, Hollywood. Totally unnecessary.
Rorsarch was PERFECT, though! Augh, I was so worried they'd mess up on him. But he was SPOT. ON. And I LOVE how they were able to find an actor that not only LOOKED like the character but was also a bit more handsome. YAAAAY!
But yeah. He'd be the only reason why I'd go see it again. Generally, so-so. But I'll let you make your own decisions.

Q: What's the story behind your screen name, Cheeko?
Way back when I was just a wee high school sophomore I created a character that I thought was one of the most original and creative things in the entire world: an elvish pirate captain. Instead of your stereotypical parrot he had a small mini-drake with limited intelligence. He could speak and he was named Cheeko. I liked the sound of the name so much I adopted it for myself.

Q: How did you get interested in creating comics?
I've always had an intense love for stories, ever since I was extremely little. I love them to the point that if I hear a beginning, any kind of beginning, despite how much I dislike it I must hear how it ends. Since I also happened to like drawing a lot, the two kind of merged. The rest was just exploration of the medium and taking influences from some of the greats.
Speaking of which...

Q: Who are your biggest artistic influences?
Oh gosh, where to start? Scott McCloud, Jeff Smith, Mike Weiringo, Carla Speed McNeil, Bill Peet, Lynn Johnson, Bill Watterson, Jim Borgman and so on and so on.

Q: What webcomics do you read?
I probably read 70 different comics, but some of the best are Zebra Girl, Fey Winds, DMFA, The Dreamer, Goblins, Gunnerkrigg Court, Sequential Art, Shades of Grey, Terinu, Xylia, The Phoenix Requiem, Ever After, Culture Shock and Milo and John _{(by ~jiminycricketx!)}.
...actually, everything I read with Milo's fingerprints on it I end up really enjoying.

Q: About how long does it take you to finish one page for "One Question"?
Okay, I don't know how many times I've been asked this one, so let's make it official. I'm not going to count planning or thumbnails because sometimes that takes years. Literally.
It takes about an hour to sketch out the page, an hour to ink it in Photoshop, an hour to lay down flats, another two hours for shading, maybe 45 minutes for the final touches and effects, 10-15 minutes adding dialogue and word balloons. Let's see, that's... *counts on fingers*
Holy crap. Six hours.

Q: Which of your characters would you most like to meet in real life?
Rilwer, because he'd be the only character of mine I would meet that would not promptly begin to make demands or give me death threats.

Q: Which of your characters would you rather not meet in real life?
Mask. Definitely Mask. For reasons not even you guys know about yet. *shudder*

Q: What artistic achievement are you most proud of?
Well, getting into `Endling's Endzone Tournament was pretty awesome, but if I could do anything over again it would be that first round. I really sucked.

Q: What are some of your pet peeves?
As an art student, this is especially frustrating for me: people who DON'T CLEAN UP AFTER THEMSELVES AFTER USING A PUBLIC WORK SPACE. I consider them to be the laziest, rudest, most inconsiderate people in the entire world. I can't tell you how incredibly MAD it makes me when I go to a classroom over in the art building and find someone's CRAP from their project all over a perfectly good work area that I need to use.
Also, people without spines. Try formulating your own opinions instead of repeating what's been said to you. For serious.

Right, so I still haven't gotten around to making a new journal header for myself yet, but I know that you'll be able to deal with that for at least a little while longer. I have something I need to gripe about first:

So lately I've been replaying Leaf Green (oh gosh, when will I ever stop? The Pokemon Company owns my soul.) and after running around the Pokemon tower for who knows how long I have one issue at the front of my mind:
WHY, oh WHY do those stupid wild Gastly have to decide that HYPNOSIS was worth forgetting for NIGHT SHADE?! Of course, the greatest attack a ghost pokemon can learn is DREAM EATER (right up next to CURSE, but that's another issue), but how do they expect to use it when they've eliminated it from their limited intelligence at level 16?! Their stupidity forces poor trainers like myself to hike around that blasted tower for nearly an hour looking for not only a low-level Gastly that hasn't yet had the chance to be idiotic, but desperately and pathetically hoping that maybe this level 20 male Gastly is one of the smart ones, I'll make my Gyarados uselessly TACKLE it over and over, hoping that maybe, maybe this next move isn't that annoying SPITE or LICK attack, maybe this time it will use HYPNOSIS instead of slowly sucking the life from my huge flying water serpent creature...
But no. Pokemon Tower is full of mentally handicapped floating balls of gas farted from the butts of dead Psyducks, Rattatas Mankeys, the only pokemon in the entire game who are stupider than the ones I'm trying to catch in the first place.

So if you want to hear the melodious sounds of my voice, you can listen to the interview here. I talk a lot about my comic One Question.
Before you listen to it, though, please be aware that it was my first interview about anything ever, so I was a bit nervous. I stutter and struggle for the right words a lot. I also say the word "Goodness" quite a bit. I'm too scared to listen to it myself because I know I'll cringe myself to death the entire way through.

Kurt and Phil were great guys that made me feel comfortable despite my terrible stage fright, and as the interview went on I got more and more comfortable. It was also a lot of fun answering questions people would ask in the active chatroom as the call went on. I talked a lot about the comic, so those of you who read regularly might get a little bit excited about some of the things I say about that.

Four invites Three and Eight to dinner at their house.
(4: Ranu, 8: Mask, 3: Kavin) First of all: whut?
Mask is punctual and arrives on time. Kavin gets there ten minutes late and kicks down the door because the doorknob remains a complete mystery to him. I guess they're watching movie. Mask makes snide comments about how every actor is a complete idiot and Ran laughs inappropriately and loudly at odd moments, trying to break the tension Kavin makes with his grumpy silence.

Nine tries to get Five to a strip club.
(9: Rilwer, 5: Orson) Okay, I may have switched some people around for this to make more sense. Originally, Orson tried to get Crysthel to go.
Rilwer calls the place a Gentlemen's Club and Orson is therefore immediately fooled. Rilwer stands on the table and composes a short ballad for each woman who comes out onto the stage and Orson spends the entire evening with his face in his hands.

You need to stay at a friend's house for a night. Who do you choose, One or Six?
(1: Crysthel, 6: Dart) Neither owns a house, but considering Dart lives in a hole in the wall somewhere and Crysthel just tends to wander around, I'd follow Crysthel for the evening.

--OOPS, MISSED ONE--

Two and Seven are making out. Ten walks in.
(2:Marie, 7:Captain, 10:Narini) Narini commends Marie for being a maja playa. She gets the Captain to pay her $50 not to tell Kavin. *jazzhands*

Three falls in love with Six. Eight is jealous.
(3: Kavin, 6: Dart, 8: Mask) ...no.

Four jumps you in a dark alleyway. Who comes to your rescue: Ten, Two, or Seven?
(4: Ranu, 10: Narini, 2: Marie, 7:Captain) Marie gushes over "the poor, starving boy" and how pathetic he is and eagerly hands her money over, so she's no help. Narini gives her son the stink eye and he immediately turns to take off, only to be caught and beaten into submission by the Captain.

One decides to start a cooking show. Fifteen minutes later...:
(1: Crysthel) She's still going on about the history of egg, and how it did not come before the chicken.

Three has to marry either Eight, Four or Nine.
(3: Kavin, 8: Mask, 4: Ranu, 9: Rilwer) Kavin nearly vomits with disgust and goes to look for Marie. Rilwer follows him, fake-crying and insisting "I can change!"

Seven kidnaps Two and demands something from Five for Two's release.
(7: Captain, 2: Marie, 5: Orson) Captain demands the completion of a task that is impossible just to keep Marie. Orson says screw that, breaks into the cell, beats the crap out of Captain and carries Marie off and back to Kavin (who was too busy to do it himself).

Everyone gangs up on Three.
(3: Kavin) Kavin beats the crap out of as many he can and goes down swinging.

Everyone is invited to Two and Ten's wedding, except for Eight. How do they react?
(2: Marie, 10: Narini, 8: Mask) ....no.
Wait: Narini is doing Marie's hair. The real groom is Kavin, and he's fallen into a mud puddle somewhere. He's desperately trying to get his suit clean on the way to the church. Mask is somewhat irritated but stands outside the doors and listens to the music.

One arrived late for Two and Ten's Wedding. What happens, and why were they late?
(One: Crysthel) She's off giving a somewhat lengthy Answer. Since her 15-20 foot tall stature can't fit into the church, she stands outside and peeks in through one of the stain-glass windows.

Why is Six afraid of Seven?
(6: Dart, 7: Captain) He's bigger and has a sword.

Five and Six get roaring drunk and end up at your house.
(5: Orson, 6: Dart) Orson and Dart have differing views as to what is best for Ranu and get into a massive fight. My entire place is trashed. They are so screwed when they wake up in the morning.

Nine murders TwoÂs best friend. What does Two do?
(9: Rilwer, 2: Marie) Marie cries for days. Rilwer feels terrible and promises he'll make it up to her somehow. She sniffily tells him to get lost, but he sticks around waiting for his chance.

Six and One are in mortal danger. Does Six save themselves or One?
(6: Dart, 1: Crysthel) Crysthel is a big girl and can take care of herself, so Dart saves his own skin.

Eight and Three go camping, but forgot to bring any food.

Project B.I.T.E is an RPG project of sorts that *Wazaga and I have been working on for the past year. It's a story about a "scientifically correct" vampire. Hopefully we'll manage to work in some other horror creatures at some point.

We only just opened an account to share it with you, and we would certainly appreciate any feedback you have to give us! There should be a lot more material that should make its way up there, including, mayhaps, some doodles of the characters I mailed to Wazzy in a package a little while ago...?

But hey, funny story: my car broke.
Actually, there are a lot more horrid details, like how the whole thing shut off while I was waiting to turn out into a street (the radio and AC were blasting, the engine rumbling, and then--BAM!--nothing! Like someone had flipped a switch!), or how it wouldn't start again no matter how many times I turned the key. It turns out the ignition switch blew out and there was no way I was going to drive that sucker back home. This really sucked because I had spent maybe an hour trying to get everything into the car, including my awesome desk.

I ended up throwing the bare essentials of the belongings into the back of a friend's car and rode down with them.
But what it comes down to is that over half of my stuff is still up in Ohio (more than eight hours away) and I lacked the foresight to pull the my scanner from the car.
I mean, I could draw the whole page from scratch in photoshop, but the quality of the page would definitely suffer. I do my best work on actual paper.

Yeah, I know. I suck. I can only say I'm sorry so many times.
Luckily, I'll be in my house soonish, everything will be settled and I can actually work on comic stuff again. Sorry to make all of you wait so long. And on a cliffhanger!

I went through the entirety of my closet and threw out 300 pounds of stuff.
In the course of my explorations I found something horrifyingly hilarious, something I all thought you would enjoy and do well to learn from. It's an old email I received about two years ago (when I was still doing request art). The only reason I kept it was because it made me so angry I had to laugh. I copied this email word for word. All the spelling errors you see there are exactly how I received them.
It read thusly:

I LOVE pics, they should be on games or anime. I would like to ask u if u would draw n send me a RPG character. I would like 4 u to draw a female half demon wolf, like InuYasha, including the ears with the long silver hair, just down to her ankles. Her eyes full blue-green, like Kouga's, n 12 tails with a mixture of baby blue n silver. Her face with a mixture of Kagome n Sango. Her clothing is western Japanese style with pink n blue floral flowers with a dragon on it. Her boby shaped like Chi-Chi. I would like for her to have black band across her neck with a pinkish-blue jewel attach to it, red weighs on her arms n legs, a bow n arrow n 3 swords in the background, n for to be cradling a black fire cat with the yingyang symbol upon it forehead. For the final touch I would like Sessohomaru to behind her embracing her lovingly. Thank u for ur time.

If you aren't laughing and/or crying already, there's also a P.S.:

P.S. I would like the background to be a lake in the middle of a meadow with the flowers in bloom, clear windy night sky with the full moon shining bright reflecting into the lake. Also if u watch InuYasha n Dragonball Z series, they will really help.

I'll try to keep my ranting about this particular email to a minimum, as I'm sure most of you can see the errors in it yourselves. Nonetheless, there are several important lessons here:
1. Don't make me bludgeon you to death with the grammar bat. How difficult is it to spell out "and" and "you"?
2. It's good to know exactly what you want in a picture someone else is going to draw for you. But this is a request piece. IF YOU'RE NOT GOING TO PAY ANYTHING FOR IT, DON'T MAKE IT THE NEXT SISTINE CHAPEL, BRAT.
3. Wow, your character sounds very original. She's only based off of SIX ANIME CHARACTERS THAT I'VE NEVER HEARD OF.
....come on, seriously? Was there a tumor in the creative corner of that dried up sponge you call a brain? Did the doctor take out his ice cream scoop and tell you it wouldn't change a thing for you?
HE LIED.

Aaaaaaah.
That sounded rather mean, but I've been waiting to say that publicly a LOOOOONG time. But I hope you understand what I mean by infuriatingly humorous.

I had a great time. My sister cut my hair, so for the first time in almost ten years it's short. My neck itches all the time now. But I have cute, stylized bangs, which I really love.
Oddly, in all the free time I had, I didn't get any drawing done. How did that happen?

I also placed second in the sand sculpture contest in my division! Appropriately enough, first place was a dragon. XD Hooray! My alligator won me $35, 10 of which I have already spent on a nice pair of sunglasses.

I didn't have a camera with me that day, but I met a family who were at the beach last year and have pictures of the sculpture I made then, too, which won first (and $50). They're going to email me copies of both, which I will post here for you to see. I can't wait!

She gave me a bunch of great tips, stuff I really needed to hear, and pointed out some things I wondered why I didn't notice before. Like establishing shots. Which I have, like, none of. And backgrounds.
Yesh. So hopefully, the quality of One Question will go up a little bit.

I swear I'm going to see that movie again before this summer ends.

My niece Sophia Rose was born this morning at 8:15 via C-section!

Right now both mother and daughter are still in the hospital; C-sections are quite draining from what I've heard, so my sister needs some time to rest, and little Sophie is having some Oxygen adjustment problems. Her little lungs just need a time to get used to everything. I can't wait to see her!!

Before I say ANYTHING about the film (I saw it the day it came out, I'll have you know, I'm just a bit slow in writing this), I must clearly establish one simple fact:
I am very, VERY picky about my super hero movies.
I do not kid. Such films I have actually liked I can count on one hand, and they are:
X-Men, X-Men: United, Superman (but he's on the list for purely nostalgic reasons and barely made it as is), and maybe the Fantastic Four. If you somehow mush the first and second FF movies together into one unidentifiable, amorphous blob, then they'd make it. They would only make the list if both were included together.
Spiderman was a failure in my mind. The first and second ones I own, but only out of obligation to my nerdiness. The third one came the closest to approval, but that was only because Sandman totally rocked. Granted, Spidie is one of my absolute top favorites, and I had very high expectations from the film, but there were too many things here and there that were wrong, just wrong. Ghostrider, Man-Thing and Dare Devil were humiliations to the Marvel name. Batman... dang, he was my favorite when I was a little 'un, and that first movie with Jack Nickelson as the joker was one I never really liked. The Batmobile was the only cool part of it. I've always wanted one of those.

So. I don't like a lot of superhero movies. X-Men was the film that really got me into comic books, and therefore I do not give out my approval to just any that happen to come along.

So, Iron Man?

Iron Man was, to put it into one word, perfection.
Omigosh, I am not kidding. Guys, in my mind, Iron Man is the greatest thing I have seen in a theater in a very, very long time, and I include Stardust, Star Wars and Toy Story in such a considerable list.
My knowledge of Tony Stark and his alter ego was very limited when I walked into the theater, but from what I saw it's one of the very, very few superhero movies that remains true to the heroes original back story. Granted, place and setting has been altered to keep pace with today's rather hectic times, but the feel, the personality, the heart of the character was the same. My heart swelled with it; it's one of the reasons why I dislike the Spider-Man trilogy so much: complete bastardization (OMIGOSH SWEAR WORD?!) of the essence of Peter Parker.
But no, not for Tony. Tony's too good for that.

I don't want to gush too much about it for those of you who wish to see the movie for yourselves, but I will say that the movie had the perfect balance of humor and seriousness. Too often, humor will stand apart from the truly profound moments of a film and on the whole seem as if they don't belong, but in this film they interwove perfectly. Humor was an important element of Tony's character, but never, ever impeded upon the moments that required action, deliberate motion, much in the same way a quiet piece of emotion was never interrupted by an awkward, sudden joke. Each element gently led into another in the sense that they politely surrendered the spotlight without reluctance to the other.
It was also great, so great, to see a romantic element between two of the major characters that did not involve a senseless, sudden sexual exploit. I guess with Tony Stark, playboy with whom an evening not spent with an ex-Playmate would be considered an evening wasted, his discovery of a good kind of love would be one of words and not a tangle of limbs. Good for you, writers of Hollywood! *golfclap* Who would have guessed that relationships could possibly go beyond something physical in the world of cinema?
A final note: Usually I'm good, frighteningly good, at predicting movies. Within the first twenty minutes of some films I know how it will end, what routes the writers will take. But Iron Man completely left me guessing; I had no idea what would happen. I had a few good guesses here and there, but every time they proved me wrong throughout the film. Ironic, considering that it was the opposite situation for my brother, who called a few major plot elements half an hour before they were revealed during the film. How did that happen?

I approve. Yes, on the whole, I greatly approve.

HAI, GUYS.

So, I only have one exam and one project to turn in before I'm officially done with school this semester. The project is finally finished (there are a few things wrong here and there, but I'm too sick of it to fix them) and I take that last exam in just four hours. I still need to finish copying notes for that class, so I'll try to make this quick.

I have what looks like a very busy summer. I'm going to have A BEAUTIFUL NIECE soon; my sister's delivery date is in less than a week or so. I really hope they end up calling her Brooke.

With one child already in the house, a relatively recent move and a career that is somewhat shaky at the moment, she really needs someone there to help everyone out for a little while. Namely, me. I'm really excited about it; I'll be staying with my AWESOME sister and her AWESOME husband and my ADORABLE nephew for this summer as a live-in nanny of sorts. Maybe I'll be able to get a job in a nearby game store-who knows? If I do, I need to learn all the rules to Magic and Pokemon again. That'll be hard.

But anyway, the point in letting you know this is that I'm not entirely sure what it will do to the whole thing I've got going here online. Hopefully, I won't be so busy that I'll have to spread out 1Q updates any more, but I don't think I'll be making as much art as I was during the school year (like I was already, what with this little vacation I'm on). So... I don't know. Just don't expect artwork from me daily in the next few weeks just because it's summer vacation.

One day, soon, art theft may actually be something that will be non-punishable and supported by the US Government.

There's currently a law that is passing though Congress right now that's called the The Orphan's Work Bill. If passed, you will have to pay $5 for every piece of work you make and/or put online to claim copyright to it. Right now, copyright is something that happens automatically whenever you create a piece of art, literature or music. The second you post it online it's protected, but if this bill is passed it won't be protected under anything until you cough up the dough to pay the fee.

This whole thing is BS. The only reason its getting pushed through Congress right now is because there are a bunch of million or billion dollar cooperations who are pushing it, because they're the ones who can make the most money if it passes. I don't know about you guys, but I don't have enough money to "buy" the rights to every piece of artwork in this gallery. It's something I cannot afford. If the bill passes, I'll have to delete every piece of art I've ever put on the web to keep anyone from making money off of it without my permission.
This includes all the artwork in this gallery and all my online comics.
Though a rather extreme reaction to such a thing, I'd rather pull everything I have from the Internet instead of knowing that there's the possibility someone has stolen my work and is making money off it without my knowledge. It takes a lot of effort to make the stuff and I don't want to be taken advantage of.

It's up to us to do something. The bill isn't going to defeat itself. You have to call or write your representative and tell them what you think. If we get enough opposition to the bill, it should be defeated. You can't sit back and think "Oh, someone else will do it," because if enough people think that nothing will be done.

Guys, I am so WEARY.

There is no other word for it. WEARY. Emotionally, physically, artistically WEARY. I feel so drained, so empty, so TIRED.
For the past month or so--no, this has been going on for a lot longer than that. Maybe a year!-- I've been concerned with nothing put producing, producinig, PRODUCING picture after picture, image after image. Where once there were huge, endless depths of creativity as vast and deep as an ocean there is now a dry bed of sand. I never realized how deeply I was drawing from it until recently, when I looked though my sketchbook and at the date on the last page I had filled in: 02/22/08
February 22nd may not seem like a long time ago, but there was a time when I would draw UNCEASINGLY, every day, and fill five to ten pages of my sketchbook in the space of a few hours. The page holding this most recent date was only one page...and seemed small and trivial. There was nothing momentous about it.
There was a time when I created a new character every week, and ideas for stories were constantly bouncing off my skull so much my hand shook as I tried to write them down before they disappeared. Now they are few and far between.

If this is an art block, it's an art block to end all other art blocks.

This feeling has been steadily growing... since when, I'm not able to tell you. But it's been getting worse and worse until the very thought of composing a new picture, creating a new idea... the very THOUGHT of it exhausts me.

And that is terrifying to someone like me. I DEPEND on my characters, on my ideas, on my art. I depend on them because they're the only things that I'm really good at, and if I don't have that, I feel like I don't have anything.
Maybe this is God's way of telling me that I'm beginning to put something else before Him, that I need to take a break for awhile and turn my heart and mind back to His words. I fell strongly that it is.

Therefore, I'm taking a long break from posting any art online, or working on any art for people other than myself. I've spent so much time working on things for others, I've completely forgotten the joy of creating for personal reasons. This does not mean updates for One Question will cease; if anything, the reason I'm taking a break from this is to concentrate what inspiration I have left into creating the best pages I can while still managing to restore it. I need to get excited about creating new pages again.
I'll still be here to answer your comments, your notes, whatever you decide to write to me, I just won't be posting for awhile.

I deeply, deeply apologize to all of those on the Pokemon Commission list at the moment, to those of you who have already traded with me for the Pokemon I have asked for, and who expect images in return.
YOU WILL RECEIVE THEM, I assure you, but I feel too tired, too weary, too DRY to produce anything I'd be proud of or anything that would be of value. YOU WILL GET YOUR PICTURES, but I'm not sure when.
For those of you I have not traded with yet, you can hold on to your Pokemon a little while longer, or you can trade with me this weekend like I've mentioned and be content to wait until I'm over this. It's up to you.
Again, I apologize if I've dashed any hopes.

Quick update, right right.

I'm making slow but steady progress through that mighty To-Do list I posted in my last entry. All the major things left can be accomplished with a good day's hard work, which is hard to come by in the life of a slacker. In the best of circumstances, everything should be done Saturday except for the completion of that monster of a book Cadillac Desert. I'm only at about page 130.
I got a few Pokemon Trades done with Draco, there were some communication problems with Becca, and it would be great if Madalchemist could make his trades through Draco's system somehow.

Brawl comes out on Sunday, though! I can't wait. I need to get a wireless router so I can play with my awesome artist friends.

Hmm... I guess that's all.

Oh, wait. One more thing:
My teenage years draw a final, shuddering breath and die in ten days. ...In other words, my birthday is on the sixteenth.
