Things have been busy but good.

I wrapped up my six page story for Robert Heske's 2012: Final Prayer Anthology. Also congrats to my buddy Mario Cau for also getting his work featured in the book. You can check out the full list of creative teams here: [link]

I'm currently working on my entry for Frank Cho's 50 Girl 50 artist contest. I've been putting a lot of effort into the pages because a.) Frank Cho is one of my favorite artists and b.) I really want the gig. Realistically I know I've got a snow ball's chance in hell but it should be some good exposure at least!

I'm also very eager for the Baltimore Comic Con coming up next month. The guest list looks amazing this year. I'm really proud to be a part of that.

Also want to note that I am open for commissions.

Hope you all are doing well.

I'm so tired of the stupid stupid stupid crap that politicians and representatives from my own !@#$ing state keep doing. We're watching the Presidential Address and some hoohaa yells something from the audience. Rebecca's surfing the web afterwards and says, "Guess what state that guy's from?"

I normally try and stay away from the politics on any of my art blogs but gah, this is just irritating regardless of which side of the health care issue one is on. Between outbursts and infidelities, our elected officials are really making us look like jackasses.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My dA Portfolio is up and you can see it here: [link]

Secondly, things are going well on my end. I wrapped up the 6 page 2012 horror story last week and am now working on a few things here and there. I'm getting geared up for the Baltimore Comic Convention next month! Had a great time last year (minus some travel difficulties) and am expecting this year to be fun as well. The line up of artists is so awesome that I'm actually kind of saddened that I'll be stuck behind the table the majority of the weekend. I've been repeatedly amazed at the artist announcements that I've heard about.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Features for 15

Here are the rules

1) For each of the 15 first people answering this journal I will put his/her avatar and the three deviations I like from his/her/its gallery on the list.

2) If you answer, you'll have to do the same in your journal, putting me on the first place, completing this way the list with 15 people. The idea of this is not to get a free feature, it is to spread art around for everyone. If you answer and have already started one, just put me in the next available slot you have. If you reply but don't post a 15 journal within a day or so I'll remove you from the list, just so you know. I've been checking out some of the other journals with this going on and am surprised at the number of people who aren't holding up their end of the deal.

Go check out these awesome artists and leave them some feedback!

1.

2.

3.
</sp...

For my birthday I'm getting new carpet installed at the condo we bought. Not technically a present since we're paying for it but it's still awesome!

Whew, it's been a busy 10 days. We repainted the condo, pulled up the carpet and original padding, installed snap and click laminated wood flooring and cleaned, cleaned, cleaned. A big thanks to my parents who have helped this process go five times quicker than it would have gone had Rebecca and I'd been doing it alone. They've spent countless hours over there and given up a lot of their free time and weekend time to help us out. Also I love the fact that they are constantly jamming out to the classic rock station. They kick ass. Period.

But yeah, carpet in today. New appliances in on Friday.
...or a condo rather. But the long going house hunt is now over!

We closed on it yesterday and we had Seth Rogen's taller twin brother as our attorney which was kind of funny. I thought the guy was an intern when he first approached us, he looked that young.

So we signed a stack of paper work, handed over the largest check I've ever written, got our keys, went and met some friends and grabbed some dinner, went and checked out the new place, and then celebrated the rest of the night at the bar downtown.

Now we're up and about to go work on the renovations on the new place. It'll be a busy few weeks but it'll also be a lot of fun. I'm hoping that I can keep everything on track art wise since I have a few things I gots to get done.

But yeah, exciting stuff!

Please provide a reference link and also please keep it to known characters that are in the comic book and video game arena. Also, please don't request the same character you requested last time if I've done one for you before. If I've done multiple free sketches for you, give someone else a chance this time around. Don't ask for anything obscene or overly extensive because neither are going to happen...one character only. Hanging out with people who have the same interests, hobbies and aspirations is more fulfilling and rejuvenating than I can put into words here.

We're planning for Baltimore next and are hoping to add even more cons to our list this year or in early 2010.
You know how you think you have bad days, how you think you have stress, how you think you know how crappy the crap stuff can get and then you go through a stretch that is so stressful that you realize all the other crap that you thought was so horrible is nothing in comparison?

That's the last two weeks for Rebecca and I. Last night was the first real good night of sleep that we had gotten in going on ten days. The stress was getting so bad that I could actually feel it physically effecting me. The skin under my left eye started looking puffy and ashy and there's been a slight pain under it. Constant headaches were becoming so frequent that I was becoming rather used to them.

And all of this because we jumped the gun on a house that we thought was good for us. About a week and a half into the proceedings of filling out the paper work we started receiving word from various people we knew that the neighborhood wasn't good and then various other omens (though I'm about as far from a superstitious person as you can get) that also were huge bright as firetruck red flags.

Reports of break-ins to someone who used to live next door, driving by the property one day to find that there is a cop walking through the yard, finding out from some police officers that the neighborhood isn't great, and then finding out that a dead body was found two blocks away on the day we decided to pull out of the contract...the body was found outside. It wasn't someone who had passed away in their home but rather had been missing for a few days and then turned up two blocks away on the same road as the house we were going to buy. Don't know if it was foul play but it was definitely the mother of all omens.

There's a lot of back story to this that kind of spells it all out as to why it was such a hellacious undertaking but I'm not going to flesh it all out here because a lot of it is just too fresh and too personal for me to get into. But it seems that we're over the worst of it and are going to be able to go on looking for the right place for us.

We won't be so quick to act and we'll take our time in making the decision as we move forward. And I probably won't post about it until we're officially moved in.

The good news though is that I'm still cigarette free. It's been 33 days or so now and I feel that if I could make it through all of that mess without smoking that I'm solid.

I lost my temper on a movie years ago when I was doing a movie called The Last Valley. James Clavell was the director. I’m not a very good horseman and they put me on this horse that they knew was a killer and it ran away with me for two miles and I brought it back at a slow pace and then I got off and all the unit were laughing and then I started and I outdid Christian by about 30 minutes with more language than he knew. So James Clavell broke the crew for an hour and he said, “Let’s have a cup of tea.” And so we went and had a cup of tea. James Clavell was captured in Hong Kong when he was 14 by the Japanese and spent the first part of his life in a Japanese prison camp. He said to me, “The way I survived was I became a Japanese in mentality. So I knew where they were coming from in their treatment of us and I knew where I should be in everything.” He said, “The one thing that the Japanese never do is they never lose their temper because anger is an emotion that you should never show to strangers because you expose too much of yourself.” He said, “You must never expose yourself like that to strangers.” And he gave me this long lecture on the Japanese and anger and I have never lost my temper on a set since. I go home and I scream at the kids. (Laughs) But I have never lost my temper on a set since."

I've been trying to be very Japanese-like with my actions as of late.
Hey all,

My buddy Lyle Pollard finally got his dA account going. I've worked with Lyle on a bunch of stuff and he's an awesome artist. He helped out with the layouts on Dressed to Kill #1 and I inked and lettered his 12 page zombie story, Cookies. And we're constantly collaborating on pin-ups and whatnot as well (we did the Gears of War piece together as well as a few other things under my "Collaboration" area in my gallery).

Anyways, go swing by his page and tell him hi. And only two more days left of the Draw Everyday of February Challenge.
Well, I got the call from my folks at 10:00 am yesterday that my brother's girlfriend was at the hospital and that I'd be an uncle by noon. Rebecca and I rode up there and lent my brother my digital camera and then took off to have lunch with our friends Andy and Beth. Then we got the call at 12:03 from my brother that Isabella had just been born so we all high tailed it back up to the hospital.

But yeah wow, I'm an uncle. Very awesome day after Christmas present for all of us.

Rebecca and I have been recovering from all the visitations to family and friends over the last few days as well as all the holiday food we've consumed.

We're about to sit down to watch some Mystery Science Theater 3000, Rebecca having bought one of the DvDs with a gift card she got to Best Buy. And I'm going to get as much drawing done as possible over the next week since I have some extra time off from work.

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas.

First and foremost I want to wish every one on here a happy and merry Christmas. It's just two days away now so I hope you all have your shopping done and are ready to open gifts.

Wow. 2008 has flown by. It's been both a good and a productive year. I got two issues of Ninja Garden done as well as a few side comics including Dressed to Kill and Cookies. As well, this year marked the most conventions I've attended and the most traveling I've done.

Also I moved in with my girlfriend of 2+ years, Rebecca. And I'm going to be an uncle in less than two weeks. Added to that, one of my best and oldest friends is about to become a father right about the same time.

This month has been so busy with the holiday season and whatnot that I've barely managed any time behind the art board. I guess it's nice to take a bit of a break at the end of the year but I can't wait to get geared back up for '09.

Well, I hope you all get what you want this year. Have a jolly one!

-Chris

I've been in auto wrecks before. Time slows down. Memories flash before your eyes. Once I lost my hearing for a few brief moments as all of my veins and synapses were flooded with adrenaline. You can barely even think because your heart is going at a million miles an hour.

But as Rebecca and I, traveling to Baltimore in my 2006 Nissan Sentra, began our first full 360 degree spin after hydroplaning in North Carolina on I-95, none of those feelings occurred.

I was calm, cool, albeit alert but more curious as to the situation at hand than actually worried about the possible dire outcome. As we completed our first full spin, I was able to take in a complete panoramic view of our surroundings, seeing that their were no cars in front or behind us within in range of collision. I think this, more than anything, kept my mind at ease.

As we went from the right lane through the left lane and off the road, through the grass, toward the embankment guard rail, Rebecca and I looked at each other. I'm pretty sure I muttered the word, "Woah." In her eyes I could see the worry and the fear. In my own, she could see the surprised interest in the situation at hand.

We both thought, as we came out of our final full spin, that we were just going to continue to glide down straight through the grass, though at this point we were actually moving backwards, rear end first. We both turned to look out the rear view window simultaneously and realized we were edging closer and closer to the guard rail.

I'm assuming that the spinning and the grass must have slowed us down as we collided with the guard rail which was a system of posts, probably separated by ten or fifteen feet, which featured three vertical wires meant to stop a vehicle.

And from the damage I later saw, I know that the bottom most wire went under the back bumper, lifting it up. The middle wire went in straight between the area right between the bumper and the bottom of the trunk. The third wire scraped across the top of the trunk. And somehow one of the metal posts managed to impale itself into the bottom left hand side of the bumper.

The area on the back right panel immediately above the break light was dented in, looking as though someone nailed it pretty good with a baseball bat and the top of the trunk had one good dent in it as well.

I realized later that the airbags never deployed. There was a slight bump as we collided with the guard rail but no real jerking motion or slamming effect. We had no bodily harm done to ourselves. All in all, I think we came out pretty fortunately considering what the alternatives could have been.

Had other vehicles been around, we would have certainly collided with them, possibly injuring them as well as us. Had we gone head first into the guard rail, it could have been a completely different story. The car could have been totaled and we could have been injured or worse.

A couple in an SUV saw the accident and came to our aid, helping us get the car off of the guard rail post. Shortly after a fireman and two town cops showed up. The fireman asked if we were hurt and for some reason I asked, "You mean physically" To which he responded yes. I informed him that we were okay.

The two cops told us that a highway patrol unit should arrive shortly and having deduced that we did not need medical attention, they went about their way. It had begun drizzling and I had called Lyle and Dana (who were attending the con as well but driving separately) and then my father back to inform them of the updates of the accident.

The highway patrol woman took our statement, had us fill out a form and then was kind enough to write us a ticket for "driving too fast for conditions." I politely informed her that I was sitting right beside Rebecca during the accident and that she was not driving too fast and that there was nothing she could have done to prevent it because we hydroplaned. I've hydroplane going less than twenty miles an hour before and my brother has done the same at a low speed as well. The officer informed us that she had to write us a ticket because their was damage to my car and to the guard rail. And while the fine itself was only for thirty some odd dollars, the added on court costs brought the total to upwards of $150.

The officer then instructed us that she was going to help us back into traffic and since the next exit was within site, less than a half mile away, we got back on the road just long enough to exit so that I could find something to secure my bumper. We found a little BP gas station and I purchased a long green rope to tie around the bumper and through the trunk to be sure that it was secure.

Rebecca, reviewing the notes we were given by the officer, made mention of the fact that the highway patrol woman had actually written that our windshie...

First off thanks to everyone for all the s on the Character Cards. I've got some more that I should be posting this week.

Secondly, I want to note that we're already behind on the webcomic! My apologies for that. We should be back on track by next week and hope to stay that way. Last week was a mad rush to get the cards, mini-comics and issue 2s printed for the con which left little time to do much else (let alone sleep). And the week is going to be spent mostly recovering from the trip.

But I'm planning on revamping the style of the strip to read like a normal comic page rather than the four panel newspaper strip so that we can get more story and gags in each week.

Moving along...the epic...the mighty...the near deadly...

BALTIMORE SAGA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Baltimore was a mixture of highs and lows. There were some extremely great moments intertwined with some sincere anxiety and dread. Rebecca and I had decided to take both Friday and Monday off from work to allow adequate time for both travel and recovery for the double 7 hour trek that began in South Carolina and ended in Baltimore.

My goal was to have us on the road sometime between 10am and noon. We managed to leave at roughly 11:45 so everything started out well enough. Two hours of driving was done before our first break in North Carolina where we would be arriving at a discounted book store which carries trades and graphic novels. Aside from a gas fueling and a food break (which was to be done in one stop) this was to be our only break.

We ended up spending a longer amount of time than expected at the store but it was well worth it, having picked up quite a few trades at a nifty price and scoring a one of a kind deal on one particular book, which I will share later. Actually, most of the purchases made were for friends of mine who I promised to be on the look out for. I picked up CEREBUS vol. 1 and 2 for a bud. For another friend, I scored some Savage Dragon, PvP and Walking Dead, which I was later able to get autographed as well so they should be extremely happy.

By the time we left the store, we realized it was much later than we had planned on departing. So we hit the road, planning our next stop to be in an hour where we would refuel and grab grub. We had expected some heavy rains due to the weather conditions of the storms going on but this part of North Carolina were rather sunny even though the road was still wet from earlier rains.

We continued on I-95, having traveled roughly thirty minutes. Rebecca was driving the first leg of the trip and I had been occupying myself playing Lego Batman on her Nintendo DS. By this time I had put it down, realizing I had some pains in my left hand from playing, not being used to the amount of work it required to operate the controls. Sadly, I'm not much of a gamer since most of my time is spent drawing and I'm a righty so my left hand is the lazy bastard appendage.

I think at this point I was just putting down my Zune that Rebecca had gifted me. I was noticing how particularly sunny it was and how there weren't any other cars around on the interstate.

This is when I heard Rebecca make a slightly startled noise and began to feel the car turning rather rapidly in a counter clockwise motion.

Very calmly, very cooly, I began an inner monologue.

My first thoughts were...

"We're hydroplaning."

...

As noted in my newest deviation, we've begun a weekly strip for Ninja Garden. I think it'll be a fun way to help introduce some of the characters and concepts featured in the book to all of you. My hope is that over time we will be able to have the strip updated more than once a week but I want to start off with a weekly format to see how manageable it is.

I'm working on putting the wraps on issue 2, going back and tweaking some of the art here and there. I'm hoping to have it at the printers in roughly two weeks.

We're also working up a five page freebie to give out at the cons. And we're brainstorming on other free shwag to create.
I went on vacation to the beach last week with Rebecca and her family.

This is the first time I've had a week off of work in over five years. My previous job didn't really do vacation time and at my current job I've been only taking a day here and there for the last few years. But damn it, taking a week off was friggin' nice!

And to add to that it was my birthday this past Monday and then Rebecca and I celebrated our 2 year anniversary the following day. I got some good presents in there as well so that was cool. I've finally joined the newer age of technology by getting a Zune and I geeked out to find that Rebecca had also gotten me (amongst other cool gifts) the hardback Hellboy Collection Volume 1 which reprints the first two mini-series! Woot!

I managed to ink seven of the eight remaining pages of Ninja Garden #2 while at the beach and also got in some time for simple sketching. Which is pretty rare nowadays because I don't have that much free time to let my mind randomly explore with the pencil and tinker with styles and such. It was very relaxing and calming exercise. I'll try and post some of the sketches over the weekend.

Now that I'm back I'm going to work on wrapping up issue 2 (which includes finishing the lettering) and try to knock this out with the cover and printing by the end of the month. Then my next task is to start working on the website some more.

Hope all of you are doing well out there. Gotta' go get my food on.

We had our copies of Dressed to Kill, Ninja Garden, and Cookies (which I still need to post the cover image of) with us at the Heroes Con in Charlotte this past weekend. We managed to sell a few copies here and there and I passed a few around to people I know as well as to various publishers.

It was a nice little getaway for me and Rebecca and the weekend seemed to have gone by way too fast but it was fun.

Also got to meet a few indy guys that I've passed by here on the web which was fun. And Frank Cho and Robert Kirkman were awesome. I think getting the stuff signed by Cho was probably the highlight of Rebecca's weekend.

And if the sneak peek of next years' list is any indication, 2009 will be awesome. Little did I realize that the voting was ending that very night!

You see, originally the guidelines stated that voting would continue until July 15th. Well, it ends up that that was a typo. So by the time I was finally coming around to asking for help it was too late.

And we got SLAMMED in the original voting. Well it ends up that we have a second chance due to an oversight of the guys running the contest. It seems that the way it was originally set up that any person could continually revote by clearing out their cookies.

Because of this, they've scrapped the original tally and are doing a second voting poll that will last until this Friday.

So please swing by and vote for us. It will take less than a minute. If we end up winning, our art will be featured on the cover of Mark Millar and Tony Harris' War Heroes comic.

And if you want to help out some more, repost this or tell your friends.

See below for voting instructions:

Drawn by my buddy Lyle Pollard (who also did some of the color flatting). Inks and colors by me.

We have this as an entry in the Wizard contest for the War Heroes book by Mark Millar and Tony Harris.

Do us a solid and go vote for us here: [link]
We're the second entry in HEAT 5. We should be listed as B. Lyle Pollard and Chris McJunkin. All you have to do is click on our listing and hit vote. Its that simple. You don't have to sign up or log in or anything. It'll take you less than a minute. And I'm feeling pretty good, knowing I'll have two comics to sell at the Heroes Con.

I noticed that I've passed the 9000 views mark. I've tried to become accustomed to ignoring that stuff but it is kind of cool (even though I know alot of you reading this probably have double or triple the amount.).

Another reason I'm posting is to announce another batch of Free Sketches. The only stipulation I'm noting is that if I did a free sketch for you back in December, to not ask for one this time around so that some different people can have a shot at it.

So yeah, first ten replies/requests of people who I didn't do one for prior will get one.

Also psyched because Harold & Kumar 2 comes out today. Been waiting for an eternity for that movie it feels like. Also this is Rebecca's birthday weekend. And we shall be partying down. Plus Lost came back on last night and I still have no idea what the heck is going on (though I'm enjoying the hell out of that show).

If you're not familiar with the Orphan Legislature, read this. AS AN ARTIST THIS WILL AFFECT YOU. If you read this, repost in a journal on dA and tell others to do the same.

If this legislature passes, you could lose the right to your creations...everything you've worked on...everything you've produced as an artist

Read this, repost this, email the artist you know, rally your friends behind this.

ey all~

I know some of you have heard of this already---news is spreading fast
with
the campaign to spread this around to other artists. For those who
haven't
seen the links yet however, Animation World posted this on Thursday
Night:
[link]
about
the Orphan Legislature. Also, more information is posted at the
Illustrators' Partnership:
[link]

(The audio interview with Brad Holland is busted right now due to
overwhelming traffic. It's located at
[link] if you can catch it
when the
bandwidth isn't so clogged.)

This legislature was previously delayed, but they're trying to push it
through again.

A friend of mine out West emailed to say it's not just
with artwork. If
this
goes through, then literature is also up for the chopping block, both
online
and off. Having someone steal your copyright sucks. Having it become
*legal
* for people to steal your copyright would be worse.

~Mia

Steven Prouse

-Chris

I'm really pleased with how the first three pages have come out and hope to be able to keep up the momentum and quality consistent throughout.

I've also got a new project I've begun working on which I will have another artist doing the layouts. I don't want to say much at the moment until we get a solid start on the first issue but it looks like it's going to be a really fun experience. As many of you know, I really enjoying the collaborative process with other artists so I know I'm really going to have a blast with the whole back and forth between the layout artist and the writer.

Sorry to anybody who I haven't responded to on here, it's been real busy out my way both with the art stuff and the non art stuff. The number of deviations that I've yet to check out on here seems to be piling up so I'm going to have to make time for that at soon as I can.

New Avengers Annual #2 (Spoilers Abound)

I just read the review of NA 2 over at Avengers Forever (follow link to read review) [link] I thought Glenn did a good job covering the issue but I also had a few other thoughts regarding it.

I'll note that I found it odd that The Hood and crew even had to show up at Tigra's apartment. If he had the ability to see through mystic shields, then wouldn't he have done that with their first visit to Strange's home? I mean, he does know that Strange is the master of the mystic arts so why not give it a quick peek to check out before leaving during the first go around?

Odder still, though, is the fact that Tigra had already been attacked and viciously beaten once at her apartment and took no security measures to insure it wouldn't happen again. I mean, The Hood and company did make a tape and distribute it to a lot of people so wouldn't it make sense to think that maybe...just maybe...he might return to finish the job or someone else who saw the video may be inspired by it and try to finish what The Hood started?

I hadn't given much thought to Bendis' huge action sequences but I have to say that at least in this case the lack of dialog was appropriate. The last we saw of The Hood he was making his announcement to take the battle to the Avengers' doorstep. The heroes who usually make lots of quips and throw out one-liners would be unprepared and caught off guard by being attacked in what they have grown to see as their safe zone.

And I still wish that they could have wrapped up this story line in the regular NA comic with Yu drawing the story. It just seemed like an odd shift by changing artists for the final chapter, especially since I've been enjoying Yu's work more and more with each issue of NA. I'm going to miss him but it looks like they'll be having a nice list of artists contributing to the book in his absence.

Plus...I don't know...I haven't seen any other artist other than Yu actually make The Hood look cool and threatening. The Hood's been appearing in the last few issues of Daredevil and there he just looks kind of goofy wearing normal clothing with a red hood as a cloak. For some reason Yu was able to make it work but I haven't been vibing with other artists' take on the character as much.

All I know is that I'm ready for Secret Invasion so I can finally find out just who amongst the Mighty and the New are Skrulls.

____________________________________________________________________________

I'm going to start including random funny and interesting stuff I find on the web. See below.
____________________________________________________________________________

Fun Stuff - PVP ONLINE - Batman: My Parents Are Dead [link]

I read this a few weeks back and nearly shatted myself laughing.
803 Studios is proud to release the names of the creators that will be included in the 2008 issue of Sequential Suicide. Launched in 2006, Sequential Suicide would become the open format independent anthology from 803 Studios that replaced their flagship title “803”.

“We wanted to really revamp our previously very loose anthology format and give it a theme,” said Steven Prouse, studio co-founder. “We also wanted to give more unpublished talent a vehicle through which they could
showcase their work. So a larger book that we put out once a year centered around a different “theme” every issue seemed to be the perfect direction for us.”

The first issue, Sequential Suicide: Rottingwood Road centered around stories that took place on an eerie one-car dirt road. “That first issue was well received and quickly put together. We really think that each issue will only get better and better,” said Prouse.

This year’s Sequential Suicide: SLOP focuses on Remus Filch, a serial-killing pig farmer with a prostitute fetish. A “ripped from the headlines” sort of theme, the concept for SLOP came from the trial of William Pickton, the Canadian pig farmer on trial for 7 prostitute murders though it is believed he had a hand in over sixty disappearances. “It’s a little morbid, but sometimes fact is far stranger than fiction.”

The genre-free Sequential Suicide: SLOP has 84 pages of story and will release early in 2008. Open submissions were held until November 10, 2007. After careful consideration, the following creative teams will be included in this year’s issue in addition to four studio member stories:

Phil Parkerson

Thomas Wells, Monty & Dana Shukartsi

Corey Stokes & Chris McJunkin

Steven Ekstrom & Douglas Draper

Patrick Tkaczynski & Reno Maniquis

Travis Legge & Alexander Levitas

Mauricio Castro, Mark Gottlieb & Carlos Campos O.

Chris Carroll & Andrew Gregory

Bobby Irving & Rodrigo Ramos Rodolfo

I've been keeping busy working on the new issue of Ninja Garden as well as a few other things. One of my oldest friends, Corey Stokes, wrote a story that I drew called Left Overs which will hopefully be getting published in the new installment of Sequential Suicide. I'll be showcasing a few pages from that in the next week or two since I haven't posted anything new in at least a month.

Time's been flying by and I can't believe 2007 is so close to coming to an end. I'm looking forward to the holidays, spending time with family and just a little bit of general relaxation.

Been watching Californication and Dexter (both on Showtime). I really recommend Dexter (now in season 2). Actually they did such a solid job wrapping up the first season that I was skeptical of the show returning but surprisingly it's been as good (if not better) than season one.

Also currently watching Heroes and Nip/Tuck. Both have been rather blah in my opinion. I was hoping that Heroes would start picking up the pace some, which I guess it has to a degree, but the writers just aren't keeping me that interested at the moment. Nip/Tuck is so soap operish this season that I'm rather doubting I'll stick it through.

Looking forward to Hitman and The Mist, both opening this week, as well as No Country for Old Men which looks really good.

But yeah, things are good. Busy, but good.

[link]

"LINCOLN, Neb. - The defendant in a state senator's lawsuit is accused of causing untold death and horror and threatening to cause more still. He can be sued in Douglas County, the legislator claims, because He's everywhere.

State Sen. Ernie Chambers sued God last week. Angered by another lawsuit he considers frivolous, Chambers says he's trying to make the point that anybody can file a lawsuit against anybody.

Chambers says in his lawsuit that God has made terroristic threats against the senator and his constituents, inspired fear and caused "widespread death, destruction and terrorization of millions upon millions of the Earth's inhabitants."

The Omaha senator, who skips morning prayers during the legislative session and often criticizes Christians, also says God has caused "fearsome floods ... horrendous hurricanes, terrifying tornadoes."

He's seeking a permanent injunction against the Almighty.

Chambers said the lawsuit was triggered by a federal suit filed against a judge who recently barred words such as "rape" and "victim" from a sexual assault trial.

The accuser in the criminal case, Tory Bowen, sued Lancaster District Judge Jeffre Cheuvront, claiming that he violated her free speech rights.

Chambers said Bowen's lawsuit is inappropriate because the Nebraska Supreme Court has already considered the case and federal courts follow the decisions of state supreme courts on state matters.

"This lawsuit having been filed and being of such questionable merit creates a circumstance where my lawsuit is appropriately filed," Chambers said. "People might call it frivolous but if they read it they'll see there are very serious issues I have raised."

U.S. District Judge Richard Kopf, in an order last week, expressed doubts about whether Bowen's lawsuit "has any legal basis whatsoever" and said sanctions may be imposed against Bowen and her attorneys if they fail to show cause for the lawsuit.

The Associated Press usually does not identify accusers in sex-assault cases, but Bowen has allowed her name to be used publicly because of the issue over the judge's language restrictions.
We were huge fans of Crank, a non-stop action junky parody of itself and SEU looked to be of the same style so we found ourselves at the movie theater last night.

I'm a huge Clive Owen fan. Thought he nailed the part of Dwight in Sin City. Thought Children of Men was really well done. In Sin City he was the good guy hanging out with prostitutes. In Children of Men he was protecting a baby. In SEU he's protecting a baby and hanging out with a prostitute.

And really, that is the entire plot of the movie. Bad guys trying to kill baby, Clive killing bad guys.

The thing of SEU is that it was supposed to be a parody of action flicks but I honestly didn't get that at all. I think mainly due to the fact that the movie wasn't FUNNY in the least. The characters were completely 2D. The plot was literally a two paragraph synopsis stretched to 80 minutes of gunfire and murder. Each scene was so over the top it was ridiculous. The villains made storm troopers look like crack marksmen.

It was just bad. Easily the worst movie I've seen this year. And that's bad considering I saw Dead or Alive.
