Once you get there, ponder for a moment over the cucumbers, and pick one up and take a long look at it. Attract as much attention as possible. Next, Make the OK sign with your thumb and index finger, and try sliding the cucumber through. Pick up a skinnier one and try that. At this point, you should look around and try to catch someone's eye. When you do, just laugh slightly and say, "oh, it's not for me." and wink at them.

That would be the creepiest wink ever.

So- i used to have this terrible feeling whenever someone would friend-request me on facebook who wasn't actually one of my friends. I thought, "Hey... it doesn't hurt me, and it could just make them feel that much better about themselves for me to press accept."

Then it started getting ridiculous.

I finally snapped when the friend of an old roommate friend requested me. I ignored him on the principle that to just madly try to please everyone is insane. I then slashed some other people, and now i'm down to a nice manageable 69 friends (and yes- i'm that immature).

Now it's fantastic. Whenever people friend request me, i weigh them against the other friends on my list and drop one to add them or ignore them, telling them that if they just made me cookies or something, they could make the list.

I think that i'm going to make an application for facebook that will inform my friends when they're getting near the bottom of my friend roster so that they can try to improve their standing. Also, i'm a horrible person that could easily put my friends in order from 1-69. Easily.

Part one:
I live in an apartment building. There are eleven other apartments in this building besides mine, and my number is nine.

Just about every morning when i leave for work, one of my neighbors (the skinny girl) is getting ready to walk her two dogs. If she had one more dog, she could glue them all together and call them Cerberus. To put it lightly- they're poorly behaved dogs. She is also one of those dog owners that think her dogs are just being cute as they jump on you and bark. Suffice it to say- i can't stand her.

Part two:
This afternoon, when i got home from work, i found a bag hanging on my door knob. I took it inside with the rest of my stuff and opened it immediately (i'm no match for curiosity). The contents of the bag proclaimed that this is tenant appreciation week. Along with the flier, there was also a few hand-fulls of candy.

Now- i've been thinking lately. Being as old as i am, nobody is going to give me free candy for halloween. I'm sure i could go to my parents place and take their leftovers, but i would have to beat my sister- and she's quick.

So- my path was set. I went around and took the candy from my neighbors. I now have lots of free candy.

The sweetest part, however, is that whenever skinny girl lets loose her hounds, from now on i'll just smile because I have her candy.

So- like every family, my family is insane. Their way of showing you love is giving you meat. My grandma is always buying meat and giving it out, and just recently i found myself the owner of a pork roast.

I live alone, and i can't eat a whole pork roast- no matter what you may think.

So yeah- i'm always in a conundrum about what to do with large slabs of meat. Beef is easy because you can slice it up and put it in lots of stuff. Chicken is the same, but pork? I don't ever make pork.

But- tonight for dinner i made pork and it was delicious.

First, this is the explanation of my measuring system (i don't use spoons, cups, or anything else).
BL - Butt-load - enough to cover that little pit in your hand when you cup your hand
CL - Crap-Load - about 2-3 butt-loads
AL - Ass-Load - probably about half to two thirds of a cup of liquid, or a solid handful

Here's what i did so you can copy/modify/enjoy:

Put this all in a crockpot on high for 3-4 hours-
1 pork
2 CL salt
2 CL chili powder
juice of 2 limes
a little olive oil
2 CL berbere (or if you're lucky, Mitmita)
If you don't have those, a little chili powder, mixed with cumin, cardamom, a TOUCH of cinnamon, and garlic powder will do the trick- it helps if you put them all in a dry pan and roast them together a bit...

pull the pork apart as it cooks- making the pieces bite-size or a little smaller (i know you're reading this Mick Jagger- your mouth is bigger than everyone elses!)

When that's all done roasting, get some corn tortillas and fry them in oil 'till they're just starting to get a little stiff, then take them out, put guacamole in them, and some of the pork.

See previous journal entries for guacamole.

Listening to = Street Fighting Man by the Rolling Stones

As i'm young, and i only have one item, and there is no one else in line at the U-Scan, i figure this will be quicker.

I scan my purchase and am told to show my ID to the cashier. Ready for this, i head up to said cashier brandishing my license. I hear the *beep* of an item being scanned behind me, and instinctively think that the crazy old woman that was milling about is using my machine- but i think, "no... it's obvious that i'm still at it, even though i've come up to the cashier."

When i turn, however, my fears are confirmed. There stands a 55 year old lady with a huge empty cart and one package of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups- mind you, not a BAG of them, but rather the candy bar style that comes with the two cups. Apparently she needed a whole cart to carry these.

I walk back, and amicably stat that i'm still using the register, while asking the cashier to remove the item that she scanned into my order. The lady looks at me and throws down the weirdness gauntlet. "You're STILL using this??!" she asks incredulously.

"Yep," i say with a smile, still hoping to diffuse the situation.

"WELL" she exclaims, "are you almost DONE?"

At this point, i decided that if she was going to be weird, i was going to be MORE weird.

If you've never seen the Steven VS Steven on The Daily Show, you may not get this- but in the style of the Steven VS Steven argument, i just shout, "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" (for reference, check these out: [link] )

Everyone backed away, i completed my purchase, and walked out with a smile- knowing that when it comes to a weirdness showdown, i *always* win.

Also- the "listening to" is Tonight by TV on the Radio (best band ever?)

First of all- you should be using firefox. Internet Explorer is a bunch of crap and it's time to graduate. That being said, get these extensions to maximize your DA viewing:

1. Piclens [link] Oh my gosh. This thing is just awesome. Especially if you have a subscription and you have set your viewing to 120 images. It gives you a 3-D wall that you can move down and click on an image to full-view it.

2. TabScope [link] This makes it so that when you mouse over the different tabs, it shows you a small preview of the page inside of that tab. Not the huge deal that PicLens is, but still- a pretty nice addition.

3. Download Status Bar [link] This lets you see all the downloads that you have going at the bottom of your browser window. Not really EXTREMELY applicable for DA users, but yeah- i download and save lots of stock stuff, and it's nice to see what i've recently downloaded.

4. Super Drag and Go [link] This lets you just drag a picture over a few pixels and download it. This is especially good if you can't decide which stock picture is going to work best, and you just want to get a lot of them.

5. All in one Gestures [link] I have mine set to activate when i click down on the scroll wheel. Drag forward, and you go forward a page, drag backwards and you go back a page. Drag up, and you open a new tab- or drag up over a link to open that link in a new tab. Drag down and right to close a tab- it may sound silly, but use it for a week and you'll never go back

6. Stumble Upon [link] You should already be using stuble upon. This came out a while ago, and it's a lot like digg- but more personalized. When you find a site you like, you say "i like it" or "i don't like it" and it will suggest other sites. This is fantastic if you are bored at work. Again, not really DA-ish, but yeah. Lots of fun

Listening to = Wolf Like Me by TV on the Radio (i'm going to get you guys to listen to them one way or another)

So, i've been making this stuff for lunches for a while, and just recently started making it for other people. It's fast and easy, and i think it tastes great- but i never thought other people would think it was a big deal. Turns out i was wrong. Here it is:

Take a quarter pound of inexpensive beef and cut it into strips that are no more than a quarter inch thick. they should also be about an inch square (so you don't have to chew them in half when the soup is done. That's all the prep work.

Take two 4 quart pans. Fill one half with water, and put it on to boil, and put the other one on medium high heat (7ish on most electric stoves).

in the empty pan, put a little olive oil, about a tablespoon or more of lime juice, a clove or two (2 is best) of garlic, some crushed red pepper (depending on how spicy you like stuff) and some italian seasoning. When it starts to heat up, throw the beef in. Let that all cook.

When the meat is done cooking, fill the pot with water 'till just a few tips of the beef stick out. Take soy sauce (kikoman light soy sauce if you have it) and put in a few tablespoons 'till the water looks brown- NOT black.

Let that come to a boil. When it boils, take it off the heat. Put some rotini noodles in the pot of water and wait for t hem to cook. When they're cooked, combine the two, and there ya go!

Recap of things you need:
2 cloves garlic
1/4 lb beef (or more- i have no idea how much i use really- maybe a half lb!)
Italian seasoning
Crushed Red Pepper
lime juice
water
soy sauce
Rotini Pasta

Also, that person i posted the drawing of recently (which has now been taken down) is a hate filled person.

Listening to = Plea from a cat named Virtue by the Weakerthans. I chose this particular one because it's educational (?) and the girl doing the sign language is kinda' cute.

I make guacamole two different ways-

This first one i make when i'm feeling lazy, yet in a fiesta mood.
1) peal 3 avocados, and mush them up with the juice from at LEAST two limes. (it's limey and yummy)
2) Dice one huge tomato, or two and a half roma tomatos
3) Press some garlic (two to three cloves- depending on the vampire infestation in your area), and mix everything together
4) Slowly add salt 'till it tastes good

The second way i make it is the more traditional way, and is for when i need comfort-guacamole
1) Start with three avocados pealed, but mush them up with about half a lime and a heaping tablespoon of mayo.
2) add in a large diced tomato, about half (maybe less) of a medium red onion, and a small handful of parsley
3) Lots of garlic again- did you know garlic keeps mosquitoes away? It's true! Well- roughly... sweet things attract mosquitoes for sure, and SOME scientists (the ones i like) say savory/oniony/bitter things keep them away.
4) Add a bit of salt- but not so much that you can't taste the avocado-ness.

Also- if you say guacamole like "whack a mole" just with "guac" instead of "whack," please make sure that we never speak out loud to each other. It's guac-a-mol-ee. The other way sounds like you're trying to shorten it, but still saying three syllables- which is insanity.

I do make an exception for people who work in mexican/tex-mex restaurants- calling it "guac" because you have to say it for a billion orders per day is acceptable.

(the "listening to" section is Province by TV on the Radio. It's sad, but good)

(since my last name is Farr, the first child will be either Winston Thomas or Winnie Theresa, making their initials WTF- which is officially awesome)

I am looking for a model. It's summer now, and i want to do some outdoor shots. If you're in Michigan or know someone who is that has aspirations of modeling tell them to let me know. I've had two people say they are down and then cancel, but what can ya do?

I'm kinda' poor, but i can buy lunch for you and a friend in exchange for your time! Any interested folks should send me a note.

I often go to Chicago and i'm willing to travel to just about anywhere in Michigan. Maybe not too far north, but yeah.

Also- if you're crazy, you should let me know in the note so that i can elect to not meet you.

This time it was markers. I bought the medium sized packages of both the sharpies and the prismacolors. I also bought some new erasers (a kneaded rubber, and a regular artgum), some bandannas (you can never have enough bandannas), some paper, a new sketchbook, and some plaster.
Ok- i feel weird asking this, but here goes:

I'm trying to get more into figure-study drawings because i obviously need work. I am looking for nude/nearly nude shots of weeeeeeeeird poses. Think elaine from seinfield dancing and suddenly being frozen.

Anything weird that would be difficult to draw is appreciated.

Also- credit will be given/withheld as per your request. Nobody will know it's you because i like drawing weird animal heads/masks on people (please see my previous two drawings).

Anyway- thanks DA community
