When I was a young man in Switzerland, I had a pet lama named Ze'Noodlen. There was a beautiful meadow near our cottage, me and Ze'Noodlen would prance through the cool, wispy-grass, barefoot. Needless to say, the cheers and laughter were deafening. Often times, while washing my armpits, I think of Ze'Noodlen. Yes, those were simpler times, when all one needed to feel whole was a spry lama and a whip.

Secondhand Personalities and Hollow Opinions

Have you ever heard someone share their opinion about something and you immediately get the sense they don't understand what they're talking about? You might find their opinion agreeable but you can tell they don't know enough about said opinion to honestly represent it. Now, why would one hold a position/opinion they don't understand or even care about? Are they trying to conform with another person's views? Are they trying to be 'cool'? Are trying to appear smart? Maybe all the above?

From what I've observed, this type of false conviction is fairly common, especially when people express their religious and political views. It seems a lot of people (not just teenagers/children) hold opinions that they themselves don't understand or truly believe in. Oftentimes, as I mentioned earlier, people hold 'hollow opinions' for social gains, whether it's appearing smarter, being 'normal', attracting mates, fitting in, etc.

Which brings us to a selection of examples, most of which you're probably familiar with. These are all legitimate opinions to have but many times they're held under false pretenses:

"Rap sucks" - Sure, not everyone likes rap but I bet most of the people who nonchalantly say "rap sucks" haven't heard enough rap to hold such an opinion. Same goes for country music and jazz haters.

Hatred for the French - I can't stand this obligatory hatred for the French by Americans. The French didn't want to participate in a horribly stupid war, what assholes! They have universal health care, they must be socialists and commies! They sound different than us, they must be gay! It's no wonder why Americans aren't always welcome overseas.

"I don't believe in 'God' but I'm spiritual." or Daniel Tosh's version "I'm not religious but I'm spiritual." - If you ever hear someone say this, call them on it! Seriously, ask them what they mean by "spiritual" and get ready to hear a lot of bullshit. While it's not always the case, I find most people who say that they're spiritual have no clue what spiritual means as it relates to religion or 'God'.

"Drugs are bad" or "Don't do drugs" - These are dishonest ways to frame drugs because not all drugs lead to addictions, overdose and/or other problems. As is the case for most mindless slogans, specifics are ignored and half-truths become the norm.

"Back in my day, everything was better!" - Whether it's music, movies, fashion, culture, etc., some people would have you believe their generation had the best of everything. To people who say this, guess what? Every generation thinks they're the best (or at least for the people who care about such things). The next time you say your generation was the best, just remember your parents are probably saying the same thing and your children will probably follow suit, as well.

"I don't really care about politics." said the complacent citizen - Let me translate that for you "I don't know enough about politics to have an opinion." Even a base-level understanding of the political process and who's in congress, would lead one to form opinions. So why don't these people just say they don't know much about politics? Because they're being willfully ignorant and don't want to expose that fact. Much like an overweight person tries to avoid talking about fitness or exercising, the ' politically indifferent' avoid the subject of politics.

"The government sucks!" - Does it? Or is it who's running the government that sucks? This is where specifics should be presented but usually aren't. I doubt many people who say the government sucks really understand why we have a government.

"TV is bad for you." - If you didn't like oranges, would you say "Fruit is bad for you"? Of course not because not all fruit is the same. When I hear someone say TV is bad for you, they lose a little respect from me because TV, in general, is hardly a bad thing. TV is a very practical and inexpensive communication tool. Sure, there is a lot of crap on TV, that's why you should only watch the good stuff.

The N word

I hear a lot of people saying "n-word" in place for the word nigger. I'm sure all of you have an opinion on which is better or right to say and I want to hear your thoughts on the matter. Here are mine:

I think using the word nigger in a non-racist context is appropriate because the word itself doesn't magically make someone racist by merely saying it. For instance:

"I can't believe he called my friend a nigger." said John. Is John a racist now? Of course not.

Now, what if he says...

"I can't believe he called my friend a n-word."

To me, Kevin just gave the word nigger a lot more power when he said "n-word". I'm not saying the word needs to be redefined or lose it's meaning, it's a word born out of ignorance and should remain as such (or until the human race all becomes one color, then maybe we can redefine the word nigger as a type of star or something).

All I'm saying is, why give it any more power than it already has? And how many times does a non-racist person say nigger, anyway? I'm guessing barely at all (unless they're writing a DA journal about it oO).

This reminds me of when I was a kid and some of my friends wouldn't say the word 'hell', as to suggest saying the word hell somehow made them hellish or maybe even hell-bound. So what did they say instead? They said things like "H-E double hockey stick" or "that place where the Devil lives" or simply point downward as to indicate hell is below us. But, as we all get older, we realize the word hell is just that, it's a word. The word itself is not some kind of verbally-spread religious-virus that somehow makes the person who says it a satanist. Obviously, hell is not nearly as volatile a word as nigger but I hope you see my point with this 'hell' story.

So, that's my take on it. What's yours?

I am of sound mind and I've never suffered from any mental illnesses (yet). With the exception of being highly anxious and slightly socially-phobic, I was relatively sane both before and after I took psychedelic drugs but not so much during the trip itself, which I'll go into later. I can't conclusively prove to you, the reader, at this moment, that I am currently sane but hopefully you're able to accept that I'm operating at an appropriate level of sanity to truthfully convey my experiences. I wouldn't go through all of this trouble just to lie about or exaggerate my experiences, as that would be counterintuitive to my goals. Any user can tell stories about their LSD experiences but it seems only a handful of users can translate their experiences accurately and objectively enough for nonusers to understand them.

Lastly, this entry was not intended to encourage people to try LSD. I'm simply sharing my experience for educational and entertainment purposes. LSD is a highly unpredictable drug and it effects everyone differently. While my experiences with LSD were mostly positive, there are plenty of people who've had horrible experiences with LSD (bad trips), so keep that in mind before you decide to try it.

As I've stated earlier, I am not an expert on psychedelic drugs or LSD, so I won't be using too much of the scientific or technical terminology and I'll try my best to define any obscure forms of slang. For the most part, I want the information to be relatively easy for most people to understand. It seems whenever someone tells me about a drug experience, they over-mystify and distort what really happened. I realize drug experiences can be pretty amazing and "beyond words" but if the intention of sharing a drug expeirence is to communicate how the drug effected the user, it should be done using relatable and objective terminology. Some people describe drug experiences like they would dreams, they'll gab away about a completely irrational series of events that very few people can relate to or understand. I'm sure you've all heard someone describe a "wild dream" they had, which might go something like this:

"Last night I had a dream about a blue monkey named Stapler. He smelled like sadness and ran through my fingers and he exploded into my heart and blah blah blah..."

What?? Aside from having a good laugh, I doubt many people will feel any real connection to that expeirence or at least not one remotely close to what the dreamer was actually feeling. The dreamer in question didn't even attempt to objectively describe his or her experience. Just like the dreamer's story, many drug experiences fail to communicate the objective effects of the drug in question. For those of you who've listened to and/or read some drug experiences, the fictional quote below might sound familiar:

"Dude, it was like I was flying but in slow motion! I could see my inner-child flowing into the universe. After a while, my hand got really heavy and it turned into a hammer, so I clobb...

Joe Sakic retires from the NHL 1988 2009

One of my favorite NHL players, Joe Sakic, retired today. This journal is my little tribute to him and his awesomeness. If you don't care for sports or hockey, just ignore this entry.

I was truly fanatical about hockey during my teenage years, I watched it, collected it and even tried to play it. I was a horrible hockey player, I couldn't power-skate to save my life and once I knocked over an old lady while practicing. Already being a big hockey fan, when I found out Colorado was going to have it's own NHL team, it was a dream come true for me but I'll get to that later. Before Colorado had an NHL team, I was a fan of the Denver Grizzlies, an IHL team that was in Denver for only a couple years. The Grizzlies were the first semi-pro hockey team I had ever seen in person and they were also the first hockey team I saw play at McNichols Sports Arena, which was demolished in 1999 (replaced by the Pepsi Center). Before all of this, I had seen plenty of local hockey teams play, which was great but it didn't compare to the NHL.

Now, Joe Sakic started his NHL career with the Quebec Nordiques, in 1988. In 1995, The Nordiques moved from Canada to Denver, Colorado and were renamed the Colorado Avalanche. Sakic played Centre and was made the Captain of team. I first saw Sakic in 1995 at McNichols Sports Arena, playing for the Colorado Avalanche at an early inaugural season game. I attended a few games that year, watched some on TV and listened to the rest of them on the radio. The Avalanche would go on to win the Stanley Cup championship that 1995-96 season (i.e. the NHL's Super Bowl). Sakic led the team in scoring with 120 points in 82 regular season games and 34 points in 22 playoff games. He was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 1996 NHL playoffs. This would mark the beginning of an amazing career in Colorado that spanned over 2 decades.

Sakic was truly one of my all-time favorites of the game, I'd only put Maurice Richard and Patrick Roy before him, making him my 3rd favorite player of all-time. He will certainly be missed. Here are some of his stats and records:

Models must be 18 years old or older. I need a female model with an average build to take nude photos of herself (or have someone else take them). I'll give the model direction over the internet or possibly over the phone (descriptions, diagrams and what not). None of the poses will be overtly sexual, just pin-up type stuff. I'll pay the model $10 per shot (I'll probably need 5-6 altogether and possibly more in the future). I'm trying to figure out how to reproduce the halftone pattern pictured below, with Illustrator. See how the fade seems to produce circles within circles? Does anyone know how to do that? Creating halftones is easy but I don't know how to produce that pattern. Is it a pattern I could get online or from a buddy? Or do I just adjust the halftone configuration to produce this effect? Update:

Someone just explained to me that you can display multiple polls (modules) on your page. Is this better than the poll history system? I don't think so but it is better than what I previously assumed was the case. The problem with module based polls is they just make everything load slower on your page, it was better when they had a designated page and history. Also, pending you want to have over 70+ polls on your page (around the amount I've made thus far), there is no way to display the poll history.

Why did they change something that obviously didn't need changing?

This is not a positive journal entry. It's been said a little complaining can be therapeutic, so let the healing begin!

I'm currently using my old Dell PC because my laptop has been out of commission for the past week. I don't know what caused this problem but it kept turning itself on and off, over and over again. Today, I finally found out how to fix it, basically, I just had to erase my hard drive, that's all. Well hey, that's AWESOME! How easy! Those damned programs and files were just getting in the way. Now my computer is nice and clean, and empty, like me. -_-

So tomorrow I'll be spending a few hours reinstalling programs, uploading files and getting my computer back to normal. I remember when it was a joy to use my computer and I didn't want to chuck it into the fucking wall. Hopefully those joyful days are coming back.

Because I'm in such a happy mood, I figured I'd take this time to point out somethings that make me want to slap people, if not myself (what does that mean?). I made a list:

- For people who leave backhanded comments, compliments, observations, e-mails, etc., you're not fooling anyone, you're being dickwads. You know these types? They wrap insults in ambiguous compliments or observations, basically it's a form of condescension. Below are some examples of this bastardly tactic, these are pretty literal versions of similar but more ambiguous statements:

"Considering who you are, you're not too bad."

"I like this trivial aspect of your work but the important parts suck."

"I like you but I don't like anything you stand for."

"I remember when I used to _____ like you. But now I don't." (you could fill the blank with; think, act, look, draw, etc."

Fuck these people! I hope someday you get smacked upside the head and put in your place. If you got a problem and you wanna say some stupid shit about me, just say it real, be direct you fucking...ok ok, let's just stop it there, I think you get the idea.

- I'm sick of people arguing points they CAN'T PROVE and/or DEFEND! Please provide some kind of real evidence when arguing a point, otherwise you're just being an ignorant asshole and wasting my time. If your position is improbable and based on gross assumptions, shut your mouth until you have some real FACTS and LOGIC to bring to the table.

- FUCK COMMERCIALS! I'd say at least 95% of the TV commercials I see suck ass. There are only a few good shows to watch on TV and I don't need these fucking lame-ass advertisements bombarding my subconcious every 5 minutes. And what's up with the LOUD commercials, yanno, the ones where the volume goes up 150% and make your ears bleed! Fuck that noise! "why not get a TiVo?" Because it doesn't work on live TV and I don't watch enough television to validate such an investment.

- I'm sick of the sexually prude population in the US. Humans have the MOST sexually developed minds and bodies on this planet, we were MADE to have sex. Sex is to be talked about, thought about, viewed and practiced among all sexually mature and willing people in this country. Sex, in almost any shape or form, is natural, as long as all participants are happy and safe, there is no reason it shouldn't be practiced, people saying otherwise are fucking PRUDES! Wake up and smell the fucking fucking!

I think that's good for now. I could make a list 100 complaints deep but that would be a bit excessive and I'm sure most of you wouldn't appreciate that much bitching on one journal entry.

This is a message to my fellow Americans...

Russia is not your enemy!

If you hear people talking shit about Russians, set their ass straight. There might be specific people who are Russian that may have committed crimes or done something offensive but please refer to those specific people, don't just say "those Russians" or "the Russians".

Holding a whole nation of people accountable for the poor actions of their government is inexcusable. Not everyone supports their own government (just look at the US). Think about the legions of idiots who think all Americans suck because of the Iraq War. Don't end up doing the same thing to Russia, it's only going to breed more fucking idiots and fuel more wars.

There are a lot of ignorant people trying to revive communist fears in America, don't listen to them, they're fearmongering morons! Dmitri Medvedev is not your enemy either, the international community doesn't support everything he does but he is NOT trying to start another Cold War. And even if he does end up causing a real conflict with the US or our allies, we must hold those who were directly involved responsible, not the whole Russian nation.
