I also got a Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM before I left. I guess I also got (for Christmas) a Canon EF 50mm f/1.8II which takes some fantastic images for being a $90 lens, but have not taken the time to actually post anything with it.

Hopefully the combination of a new lens, new school, and new city will motivate me to actually post something again.

rather than takin my dslr i actually just decided to take my hassy and get some good practice in.

I have finally used up another roll of film (my first one ended up in me being an idiot and putting the film in backwards) and once i finish one more half of a roll i'm gonna get them developed with hopefully some good results.

i'm also pretty excited because my dad is in the process of finding his old-school pentax full manual camera which should be fun and i am thinking about getting a medium format camera (specifically the Hasselblad 500 C/M [link]) I may be able to get it for only 200or so bucks depending on how well my bro bids on it on ebay which would be nice as opposed to paying the ridiculous amounts of money that one would typically cost)

the main reason i'm really excited about this is not just in getting new cameras to use, but that I will also (believe it or not) be using film for the first time (I can't say my disposable camera expericece really counts)

i also come to the conclusion that i need to take more pictures of people, because:

1. i find pictures with people to be more interesting

and

2. i'm god awful at it and need some hardcore practice which may have me enlisting friends as models

but i'm getting a little frustrated now since i definetly am rusty with taking pictures in general and it's cold and rainy out which is no good for taking picture

and im pretty sure by the time im able to take pictures ill be back on campus which pretty much means i wont have much time

tomorrow/today which every way you think of it, i'll be taking pictures of my arch project model and possibly my guitar since it involved in my project

dont be expecting grand buildings though, but very abstract ways to diagram movement instead

our projects really don't have anything to do with architecture as of now, but they are getting us to think outside the box and more abstractly and design something with out actually having to deal with buildings yet

hopefully some of the pics will be dA worthy and ill be able to post them

it ri-goddamn-diculous. The very fist day of class (last wednesday)i have a project due in two days. 2nd day of classes i have another project due in 4 days. 3rd day of classes, have a project due in 3 days from the first class. So instead of having fun on the weekends like most ppl do i stayed in and worked
the list of my work load is still growing which means i'm pretty sure i won't have any free time at all for a long time. doubt i'll be taking any pictures anytime soon nor will i be able to post them (if i have the time i will)
its going to be a long long long year

It is a .5 converter which when attached to the end of the lense converts the focal length to one half its original. It also allows for a much better macromode (When i was testing it out i almost ran into the object i was focusing on because i didnt realize i was so close.)

My widest focal lenghth now is 9mm rather than 18mm (its at the point of being a fisheye lens.)

So i even though i only have 2 real lenses, i technically have four now that cover a pretty broad range

a 18-55mm (9-27.5mm with converter)
and a 100-300mm (50-150 with the converter)

this seemed like a much better choice than getting a super wide angle lense and a normal lense to fill in the gap between my other two lenses. It also costed alot less than if i got two lenses which would leave me broke.

Well here is my attempt to get my favorite artists here some attention and acknowledement. These are my favorites that have under 10,000 page views (those people already have enough attention.) Please check them out and comment on their work. This is in no real order of favorites, just in order of what type of artist they mainly are. Sorry for my lack of a large vocabulary and repetition of words in advance.

Digital Artists

~Katana-mastah

Katana-Mastah is a very talented digital artist. Much of his work consists of fractal art and 3D renderings which are very impressive and expertly composed.


~iReap

A artist of many talents, iReap first caught my attention with his vector art/portraits. The use of colors and how well they are done make them very appealing to the eye.


Traditional Artists

~i-am-the-pencil

One of my college friends and also someone that really knows how to use a pencil. i-am-the-pencil easily has some of the most impressive pencil drawings around (although he considers most of them mearly sketches.) A good deal of his work is also anime inspired and includes original work, not just fanArt.

Photographers

=since1916

One of the most talented photographers and one of the first people that I added to my devWatch that wasn't someone I new in person. Her photography has a very wide variety of genres, but what she really shines in is portrait photos. She is able to capture a great amount of depth of emotion in other people and herself and captures a "realness" in them that I have yet to achieve.

~cosmogurl

Another very talented photographer, cosmogirl's photos have this aura which still amazes me. Much of her photograph has a surreal feeling, in my opinion at least, and becomes very dream like and nostalgic aswell. She has a few newer mixed media works which are also very interesting and shows she has other talents than just taking good pictures.

~OzZcr

one is taking pictures of my new guitar and also my sax

i like the music theme so i may do a series of photos or even try to brush up on my drawing skills of pictures that are based on my favorite bands. For example:

The Shins - have a picture of a bunch of ppls shins/ankles
Arctic Monkeys - draw a picture of monkeys in the snow
Red Hot Chili Peppers - picture of some...um..well..chili peppers
Sigur Ros - picture of someones hand holding a rose up (if i can remember sigur ros means victory rose)
Radiohead - Picture of a boombox layered over someones head
South - This could be done in many aways (i was thinkin takin a picture of a street sing that said it)
Death Cab for Cutie: pic of a herst
Postal Servie - mail truck

other bands that i want to do, but don't know how to go about doing it (suggestions would be splendid):
The Decemberists, 311, Kings of Leon, Crystal Skulls

This will probably be a continous project that will last as long as I find new music.

Too bad I really didn't use the results

So I got my new guitar today, the Epiphone Les Paul Standard, and it turns out alot of the pictures online don't look alot like they do in person.

I ended up getting the honeyburst color which looks completely different than it does online and this is for the better.

The guitar both sounds and looks great and I have a long summer of practicin to actually become decent when college comes back around

I'm sure I'll be using it as a model for some dA photos

Which reminds me that I also need to take some pics of my saxophone

I have found a liking for incorporating music somehow into my pictures and projects.

Im back from London

I took about 500 pictures

I'll be happy if one turns out well

kinda frustrated that I dont have my computer because I left it with my parents

It will take some time and my own computer to sort through these pics

I'm using my friend's computer because he hasn't returned to the dorm

but his roommate has

hopefully i can double my deviation count

and hopefully my pictures will tell what I did in London so I don't have to elaborate on the journal
