It's about a Ted Bundy-like character who was raised by his foster parents and foster sister, Debra, whom he describes as the only person in the world that loves him. His foster parents are dead now, no he didn't kill them as he claims. If you haven't figured it out by now, Dexter is something of a serial killer. Interesting that they should put him in the role of the protagonist, and he even helps the police as a part of the forensics unit.

But where he is putting on a public face as a nice guy who's dating a kind single mom, he's a cold hearted killer by night, satisfying his urge to kill with other killers that have been able to escape the law.

I found the actor very well adapted to his role. Michael C. Hall, as you may remember him from the series, Six Feet Under, or from the movie Paycheck, is said to have watched interviews of serial killers to prepare for this role. He manages to look quirky and somewhat magoo to the other characters, but shifts quickly back to his darker thoughts. In this first episode, they provided flashbacks to his younger years with his foster father, and allows the audience to delve further into his personality and his reasoning.

This first episode seems promising. The show doesn't give off a Hollywood-ized feeling, although a few of the characters seem a bit stereotypical. Dexter himself reminds me of Ted Bundy, although it doesn't seem that he kills for sexual gratification. I say Ted Bundy because, for those of you who are familiar, he was a good looking guy that know one suspected, however he was a cold hearted killer who targeted women, usually brunettes.

As of right now, I don't know how they'd be able to keep this going for more than a season. The music really sets the mood, and the images are pretty disturbing, although personally I wouldn't say graphic.

I just finished reading a great book, Secret Diary of Anne Boleyn by Robin Maxwell. It's simple reading, diary form, but it really delves into Anne's personality, and completely makes sense of her actions. Almost brought me to tears at one point, when she talked about motherhood and how she felt about her Elizabeth. It makes me wonder if the real Anne Boleyn was like this, loving, caring, witty and cunning. And if so, what would history have been like if Henry hadn't been such a bastard and hadn't had her lovely head chopped off? We wouldn't have had Edward, or maybe we would still but he wouldn't have been legitimate, and Bloody Mary wouldn't have ruled. But would Elizabeth had been the queen that she was, known in every history book as the queen who ushered in the Golden Age of Britain?

I wish I could have known Anne Boleyn.

I was able to get to class on time, 9am, although I kind of wonder why I bothered. I'm not really listening, I'm sitting here typing. More than half of the class is missing. I think she's teaching about the origins of the Yakuza, and when I randomly look up at the screen I see a Japanese member of the Yakuza, who is missing a finger on each hand, or one of those beautiful full body tatoos.

I've stopped crying, class is finally starting to distract me, and this is pretty much how it'll be for the next two years. Work, school, projects to keep me busy. Good thing I'm a workaholic.

So this year I am going to cosplay as Misa Amane from Death Note, who is the Gothic-Lolita dressed girl who is hopelessly blindly devoted to a teenage genius (my boyfriend is cosplaying as him) who finds a deathgod's notebook and uses it kill criminals to ultimately create his own utopia where he can be God, but a equally-genius detective (my friend Amy is cosplaying as him) is hired by the police to stop him . But my costume is going to be more gothic-punk cause I'm too lazy to go find/make a petticoat for the skirt and there's just no way I'm going to be able to get out of my house alive if my parents see me wearing a garter belt.

I had originally planned to dress as Yuuko from XXXholic, and though I have the clothes and some of the appropriate jewelry, I am missing the opium pipe, I'm short and I'm just not quite that curvy, so really I look nothing like her. I might just wear the clothes for the heck of it though, but I'm not going to claim any resemblance.

I'm probably looking forward to the CLAMP panel the most, and pretty much seeing cosplayers again. I get to borrow my little brother's nice camera to take pictures!

I haven't submitted any deviations in a while partly because I'm working more hours and summer school has started, and really I just haven't gotten any inspiration. Maybe after AX.
