Well, to update you all: I am back at school, mostly depressed (for no reason), have started visiting the public library (pretty much obsessively), can't make nearly enough time to do artsy stuff, but had an amazing weekend of creepy photography-ness.

Visited a state park with my University's photography club yesterday and stumbled across this cemetery from the 1800's; most of the obelisks were pushed over, and all the typography was super gothic.

Also, finally got a Flickr account ([link]) ; it's mostly just my sets of hand-made cards yet, but maybe I'll upload some more stuff later. I really don't like how Yahoo owns it, but I didn't want to upload those photographs here, so it was the best option.

Started twittering, mostly just to attract more traffic to my blog and artfire store and stuff ([link]) but it's been a lot more interesting then I thought it would be, and I've found some really interesting links there too.

I also discovered this weekend that more people will view pictures of chard cigarette buts, and waffles, then flowers; so I am changing my subjects accordingly. Expect more edgy and controversial subjects, like my waffle, from here on out!

Ok, maybe not. But I did finally get around to posting some of my projects; still have to photograph my t-shirt projects, but my knitting projects and recycled paper are up, which is a start
My store is here if you wish to be in awe of its graphic prettyness (lol). So far I would really recomend Artfire to anyone out there interested in selling their art; the free package is really nice so far.
I also have high hopes for the yard sale this weekend; freeing myself from a lot of earthly baggage hopefully!

It has been one of the few stories I've actually finished over the years, and I call myself a writer ><!
And yet, here I sit logged into my email, facebook, my art blog, and watching tv. Camping this weekend was so amazing, though, despite my "junior" tent which could barely fit my dufflebag, let alone me. Maybe I could set up some sweet deal like in Nim's Island.
Hmmmm... Being stuck on a secret island with Gerard Butler.
My mission to get rid of stuff so that I can move into the woods someday, or an apartment befitting a starving artist is going well.

So, last night I had some extra time on a computer for the first time in... Well the last time I was really on here was five months ago, so probably about the same. And, anyway, I began to consider how my purpose as a designer and Deviant art might collide. I came to some interesting conclusions, which might mean I will be on here more often, looking at art, being inspired, and maybe giving inspiring others a shot.
Other then that, a little deleting and uploading later I feel like I actually might have a respectable presence on here at the very least, which is encouraging.
Obviously, since I have been off so long a lot of stuff has changed, and so far nothing that I have noticed has been particularly uplifting. For starters, the about me thing will not update to say I am 20 now; I kind of need it up there so I don't forget. Secondly it seems kind of dumb, overall, that people need a critique system on here at all (as far as what little I've seen of it it seems totally pointless), and the fact that you have to pay for it... As long as people allow comments on their work I will critique it, and until I get kicked off for critiquing one too many overly sensitive people I will wish people would offer more constructive criticism of my own work.
Seriously...
My future in graphic design is sort of looking up, the stuff I submitted to the student art show not only made it in, it is now part of the condensed version which will be on display all summer for visitors to ooo and aaa over. I also got a perfect on my final Graphic Design I project (posted), and I passed my Sophomore review.
So, I guess I should stop thinking I am the worst graphic design student in the history of the world
This summer will, hopefully, be largely spent (other then working my butt off so I can come back next semester) writing and gathering inspiration for my designs. Maybe I can come up with some stuff that isn't so heavy on the minimalism.

I believe this journal is inspired by the fact that I am almost finished reading The Mammoth Book of Best New Manga 2. And so, suddenly, no matter how much has already been written for and against manga art I feel like I must throw my two cents in (not that anyone would pay that much to read this ). Plus, I should be doing homework right now.
Reading the beforementioned book - which is the first "manga" I've seriously read in about a month - I was quickly reminded of everything I really like and really don't like about the form: on the one hand I am a fan of simplification and fluid shapes, and on the other, not such a fan of Yaoi romance or the over the top bishonen that populate them. Then something NEW struck me, as stated in the introduction of The Mammoth Book of Best New Manga, the authors and artists that contributed to this little volume were creating these comics all over the world.
While I am completely OK with the idea that Manga is a style that people outside Japan can imitate, and have no problem labeling it as such (I'm no purest). I feel myself getting kind of (ok, really) upset that this entire book worships manga as the ultimate form of comic expression.
I started reading comics when my friends got into manga, but even as I still go back to my reading roots I'll flip through just about anything that brings text and pictures together (this might be due to the graphic designer in me) to communicate.
Why does Deviant have a section exclusively dedicated to manga? I don't care that so many people create works that seem to most readily fall under that category;they are also portraits, sci-fi, digital drawings, etc why can't they just go there? Why don't we have a cubist section, or surrealist, or dada?
Manga is simply a buzz word to sell stuff.

In other news: my school finally "discovered" this site, and promptly banned it for about a dozen reasons that all boil down to porno. Thankfully, one of my friends who is a much more avid Deviant then I talked to her prof, who argued the point for us, and we are back online.
thanks EpidemicXero!

Give me something else to do.) and I had 666 deviations notification; I wonder if that means anything.
