We are converting to a group! Thats right. It will be much easier for us all. I wont turn on the option for you guys to submit deviations since I would be worried non-members or less active loving members would abuse this. But I will have the suggest a favorite option on so you guys can submit your own deviations that way.

That's right kids!
Major updates will be happening throughout the month.
Myself and a secret helper-bee will be updating the club.
Right now we are just doing a major update, I want to get all the notes cleaned out so we can start fresh in the new year.

PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT ANY DEVIATIONS BETWEEN NOW (DEC 2nd) AND THE FIRST OF THE YEAR

Once everything is caught up all rules will go back into effect. 2 submissions per week per member. The subscription ran out before I could check the poll results but I think the monthly news post was winning. So that is what will happen.
I am not sure how I will handle posting this major update.

The one that that seems to be making people feel iffy about it is how we would feature those we fav.
So another poll will be posted!
This time I want to take a vote on how you want to see the submissions pop up in your inbox.
If we screencap 4-6 submissions a week, or if we do a monthly news post with thumbs of everything we have fav-ed for that month.

I do want it to be known, if we do the 4-6 a week it won't go in effect until we catch up, this way we are only submitting around that many a week so no one will feel left out.

Thank you for sticking with us!

I want to get this place up and running again and I think our main problem is submissions.
We get so many wonderful submissions, but it is nearly impossible to submit each one.
Creating a submissions takes time, between having to save each image ourselves and copy over the information as well as a title and setting everything up correctly.
So I feel a new way of submitting would be more efficent, and would allow us to share more wonderful crafts with all of you!

So I have stolen a submission idea from some clubs I myself watch.
It would utilize the favorite/collections. We would fav/collect each deviantion submitted.
Then once a week or once a month, we would screencap 4 or so of those submissions, and submit that, and it would include links to the deviations in the image.

Not only will this save us a large amount of time, but it would also keep anyone from faving the club submission rather then the original deviation, That way the real artist would get all the love and support.

To make viewing easy, we would break the collections up into their months, so if its August, simply go into august's collection, and browse through.

Hey this is

and oh my goodness it's been a long time since Cute-Craft has gotten an update! I know that some of us thought the club would be dead by this time but no worries, I'm going to be sorting out some of the notes and messages that's been received over the past months. I'm not sure who else was a mod here besides

On another note, once everything gets back to where it was we will hopefully get our first contest of 2009 going :] Please hang in there with us as we're trying our best to recover from the lack of updates! Hmm..well let me start by saying, hi my name is Connie! I'm really honored to be chosen as one of the mods for Cute Crafts. I currently attend UCR, majoring in business with a minor in art. I have been making small crafts here and there since I was 15. I was mostly inspired by my friends that had a crazy talent in drawing; I started to bring their characters to life by sewing it piece by piece with felt (probably my favorite material). I then displayed my creations online, starting from livejournal to deviantart, and now I have my own little shop for people that would like to purchase one of my stuffies :] Anyway, I will do my best to service you guys and this club to my fullest!

My name is Jazmyn and I'm a 23 year old Canadian ^^
Art has been my life whether I wanted it to or not. When I was three my mother figured if I could hold a fork, I was big enough to hold a pencil, and so here I am on DA! I love all kinds of art, so when I'm not holding a pencil I'm rolling around clay, cutting up fabric, or picking up knitting needles. My motto in life is "TRY EVERYTHING ONCE!" and that includes food, activities, artistic methods, and anything else! (I also live for food, mmmm how I love food!)
I'm very excited to be a part of Cute Craft, and I've already got plenty of ideas brewing, including our first contest in quite some time and a new prize system!

This is the 3 star system! First place winners receive a full star, second place a half star. For every star you get a prize:

3 stars: 3 months subscription $15 gift certificate for your choice of craft store, or if members would be willing to pool together a crafters choice of prizes. Post up the prizes donated by members and the three star winner can choose one of what they would like. (I will donate up to $6 in shipping costs, so think this one over wisely!)

The prizes are awarded when the first person reaches 3 stars! This has been a long time coming, and I apologize for the huge delay in it.

*Cute-Craft is undergoing some changes and has been heavily backed up on account of them.

Firstly, I, *acrylicana, am officially stepping down from my position and leaving the club. *BleedingSmile has offered to take my place and will no doubt be making appropriate changes of her own to make sure the club is run smoothly (i.e. appointing whomever she chooses to moderator positions, changes in policy, overall look, ect).

I don't know what happened to our other mod, =violetdawson, as she has not responded to my note regarding this change.

Thanks you so much, everyone, for your patience in the club's latency in getting to submitting everything. It's a mere bump in the road and this is the best thing to smooth it out.

As for me, this club has grown to such a degree that my schedule can no longer handle it. I'm amazed at the amount of members and the truly wicked level of skill you all posess.

Hello everyone.
As you have read above our creator has stepped down, and I have taken over.
Since the other moderator is MIA I am going to have to make some decisions on my own. And since I am a people pleaser, please let me know if you have any good suggestions or think what I am doing is stupid.

I think that the club needs some catching up.
So I am going to be closing down submissions until what is sitting in the inbox has been submitted or delt with. Currently there are 153 notes that need to be taken care of.

So after Monday, April the 18th (at exactly 12 mindnight EST) any submission notes received will be deleted.
Join requests will still be allowed.

Also, I will be looking for 2-3 moderators (depending on if our other moderator returns from obvilion!) Since I don't know too many of our members it will be hard for me to decide on who to give this mighty power too. So if anyone has any ideas or feels they are qualified let me know either through a comment or note.

I will be putting up some poles to test some waters on possible new rules, so be sure to vote and give your opinion.

Lastly, if you have anything urgent to say feel free to note my personal account *BleedingSmile (by urgent I do not mean "I submitted something and have not seen it up yet" or anything like that. I will refer you to this journal then delete your message.)

It was suggested to me by =violetdawson that we should have a Valentine's themed contest. I agree whole-heartedly.

Here's the info on this quick contest:

Theme: Valentine's Day

Rules: Those entering must be a member.
Your entry must be handmade.
It must be submitted to the club with a note with the subject line "CONTEST ENTRY" (other notes might be overlooked).
Your entry should be made specifically for this contest.

Firstly, HAPPY NEW YEAR, CUTE CRAFTERS!

Secondly, as you can probably tell, it's becoming increasingly difficult for me to add new submissions and get to notes on here. You would've thought that since I've been on holiday for half a month I'd have more time (funny how that is never the case).

Anywho, I'm looking for two people who have some time on their hands in general that can help maintain the club with me. I will still continue to update and throw in a podcast every so often, as well as get to notes and such, but the extra help during the week would be wonderful.

SO! This is what we're going to do, reply here to this lovely journal with why you should be a club moderator/maintainer. I actually have a few people in mind that are high on my list, but would rather they offer their services, as I do not wish to impose upon them.

However, that does not mean that you shouldn't apply for the position if you want it.

I honestly do not know a good solution other than being very careful, which could pose problems later. So, if you have an idea or answer, let us know.

Felt Tips
The following tips were provided by members in the last journal via comments. In case you missed them, here they are in a nutshell:

1. To keep your felt from fluffing up and getting all over, iron it between two pieces of wax paper parchment paper.

2. You can use a lint roller to get those other coloured bits off your felt.

3. Ebay is a great place to get felt at bargain prices. Etsy too (search for felt in the supplies section).

4. Clean your scissors after cutting each color. Lint tends to stick to the inside.

If you have a craft tip on any topic, feel free to send it in via journal comment or via note. From now on they'll be read in the podcast. Along with questions you may have (about anything relating to crafting - not just the topic).

Aloha, lovlies!
(It's freezing cold here with tons of snow, so I'm thinking warm thoughts with that greeting)

I hope everyone is doing wonderfully well.
The podcast will be back in action later this month.
I got a question about felt a few weeks ago and meant to answer it then, but thought instead I'd post it here so others can offer their advice (so sorry about the wait).

What can I do about getting bit of other colors of felt on my white felt (especially black)?

I do believe that was the question. I know I did not delete the note, but I'm having trouble finding it again (so many to sift through).

Anywho, my answer is to keep them separate. Some acrylic craft felts are fluffier than others. They're more problematic in that they get all over the place and often are thinner and prone to easily ripping apart. To avoid this fluffiness, I often create the item then lightly sheer it away with sharp scissors.

If you're keen with felt, feel free to offer your expertise. Chances are other members have much better answers.

1. In regard to the auction, of which will occur sometime around January and February (still sketchy on details, simply because there's a lot to organize still, so we're taking our time to make everything perfect and to go smoothly overall), the poll, so far, reflects the World Wildlife Federation as being our charity of choice.

All the charities were VERY worthy, mind you, and I understand it's a difficult decision. Part of the reason for this is simply that the more awareness for these organizations the better, regardless of which is ultimately chosen for our group effort.

Then the address will be sent to you so you may send it off in the post. Some sort of proof of postage or tracking should really be used. The post is insane from now until..idk..mid January. Just madness, that.

The limit of how much to spend is around $10 (can be less, but shouldn't be any more than), and a little note or card should be included to say who it's from (when that time comes on making the item).

Ahoy Hoy, Cute Crafters!
I am so very sorry about the delay in updating this poor club has received. My schedule is crazy as of right now and will continue to be crazy for another month (and then I have a month off -- nice).

Anywho, I'll be updating the club today, tomorrow, and Tuesday -- getting back to notes, ect.

Never fear, you're ALWAYS on my mind! (I have to club in my bookmarks toolbar -- so I can ALWAYS feel guilty if I've run out of time).

As for the podcasts, they're going to have to wait until my semester ends.

Now, many of you wanted to do that Secret Santa thing, which is quite swell.
What we're going to do is have the lovely *KattyKinns organize is (since she was sweet enough to offer). I guess we'll have a sign-up of some sort. I'm kind of not in the 100% know of how this works, BUT I will update this with the full info asap!

As for the charity auction, are we sure we wish to do this now, or would you guys like to wait a couple months and really get organized? I know it's that time of year where everyone feels grand and giving, but perhaps it's super swell to work on all of it and iron everything out, that way when it's going on we can REALLY give our bext effort (b/.c I know how absolutely hectic the next two months will be for me---unsure about you guys, but many of us are in some sort of school, or pressured from having to work extra hard to celebrate some sort of winter gift giving holiday).

The winning focus (from our poll) was Animal Rights.
Let's suggest some awesome animal rights-related charities.
(There's one I will not help, and will make those reasons known if it comes up. They're kind of...mmm...over the edge about certain things).

In Case You Missed It...

Welcome all new watchers and members!
The club will now be updated on Thursdays and Fridays beginning October 11/12th. There will be a club chat THIS Friday. Ok. I'm currently waiting for my headset to arrive via post. It's tracked and says between the 11th and 18th of this month. So, I believe our first posted podcast will be the week of the 22nd (probably around the 25th or so)..I'll see.

I've decided to do two podcasts per week. One is Cute-Craft's official podcast and the other is based upon art and culture (i.e. cute art, pop art, design, kawaii culture, ect ect). The second is something some of you might enjoy as well but isn't really apart of the club. Just thought I'd mention it since I did consider having them be one and the same. BUT, not everyone who listens to the second will want the club info from the first.

That aside, let's start sending in questions for the podcast!
If you've got a Cute-Craft related question, send along a note with the subject line "PODCAST QUESTION" (otherwise I cannot guarentee I'll read it in a timely manner, since notes are overlooked without the proper subject line until later). I'll search long and hard for the answer and read and answer it in the first podcast episode.

The club's podcast also does need a theme song. I'm not talking about someone singing, (although, who knows, maybe that would work), but rather some music that's specially composed for the club. I know a few people offered already and I decided to think about it. SO if you're handy with music (especially something done digitally -- think about it being cutesy and short -- no longer than maybe 30 seconds..maybe 15) note me with the subject: PODCAST THEME and we'll discuss it. ^_^ You'll be credited every episode, of course along with links in the show notes to your devpage or website or whatever.

Anywho, yeah. I think that's all that's needed so far from you guys. ^_^ In later podcasts we'll see about having special guests and interviews with those who're free to do them and able.

Reading Journals
This might be pointless, but more and more questions are being asked that are answered in EVERY journal. Questions such as "what is this club?", "how do I submit?", "who should join?", and clarification upon what "2 per week" really means. Seriously, you're on an English-speaking website. Those questions are answered in English. If you have problems with comprehending the language, ask me if I can get more translated media. I'm more than willing to find out who is able to translate if you're having trouble. To be honest, though, I'm unsure how someone who doesn't understand the language functions on this website at all. Especially with such a lengthy TOS that has some very interesting points about copyright.

Next Club Chat?
Our last 2 club chats were very lack luster. If you guys want to have another, let me and everyone else know, as well as the best time/day for it. I'll make a poll out of some of the times you guys choose.

Cute Club Podcast?
I've been thinking lately about how useful it would be to have a club podcast. It'd be comprised of a small panel of members who would discuss club news, contests, themes, how-to's on making things, supplies, and answer crafting questions. There are some GREAT craft podcasts out on the web, but ours would be tailored for CUTE CRAFTS.

I'm still thinking about it, but if you have a mic, or know anything about podcasts (the more minds the better), or would like to participate, let me know. If no one's keen, I might just do it myself anyways. ~_o It'd be a weekly or bi-weekly thing. Probably recorded on Fridays or Sundays, and wouldn't begin for another month or so.

The contests's theme is FAST FOOD/JUNK FOOD.
It's up to you how you interpret the theme.
One entry per person. Only members may enter the contest. Entries must be new starting today.
Your entry must be handmade. Your entry will be disqualified if we (the judges panel) determine that it isn't.
Your entry must keep with the club's theme of "cute crafts" as well as the contest's theme.
Drawings/illustrations/paintings/ect aren't accepted, sorry (obviously).

Deadline
The deadline is 12:00 AM EDT (UTC -4), SEPTEMBER 17TH.
All entries must be in at this point. If there's a problem, we'll discuss it, depending on the amount of late entries (hopefully none, as the real contest end is september 16th).

How to Enter
Create your craft .Photograph your craft as you normally would. Submit your craft to your gallery, as you normally would.
NOTE *Cute-Craft with "CONTEST ENTRY" in the subject line and a link to your craft. Entries will be displayed in a special journal entry for the duration of the contest and will be the reference point for the judging.

Judging
First, Second, and Third places will be determined by the judges panel. The panel has already been determined and those on the panel are not eligible to enter the contest.

The People's Choice prize will be determined by votes coming in from members, watchers, and others VIA NOTE once the voting time has been announced. This period of people's voting will last one week and is highly competetive. It's the last part of the contest and once all the votes are tallied, the prizes will be announced and awarded.

Judges are unable to enter the contest they are judging. They are required to remain impartial and must cast their votes at an appointed time.

There's A LOT of wonderful, actively involved people who support the club but do not create cute craft work. This is where they're able to participate (depending on who they are - i.e. if I don't know them, they're not supportive enough of the club, given that I run the thing).

News Item One
Is something still amiss with the forum? A good half of the posts don't seen to show up, but they do go through, which is odd. So! Perhaps until such things are fixed (I did send a bug report) properly, discuss club related things here in the comments of the news journals. That way you're ensured that everyone may see your thoughts and queries and lovely discussion may take place. ^_^

News Item Two
In the matter of themes, there's a new poll about them. LOTS of good options have been suggested by members. Fear not, if your choice isn't chosen this time, there's always later.
As for the frequency of themes and contests, that's kind of to be determined. Some feel it should be weekly, monthly, bi-monthly...and others feel sporadic ones are swell too.

We'll start it off as being bi-monthly and see how it goes.
The first theme will run from August 1st through September 30th. The theme will be announced next news journal per poll results.

News Item Four
Features. It's been mentioned that featuring a club member each journal would be swell. I think so too. This will begin starting next week. As to who is chosen is an arbitrary decision, unless you guys have some other ideas on that. Note: the feature will comprise of a small interview, some thumbnails of their work, links to their dA, website, and/or shop as well. It's a good way, aside from the introductions already made, which are great, btw, to get to know one another and to bring attention to the craft work.

Given the size of the club, features could take a while to get through everyone. I fear that in time some might complain that they've been here longer than so-and-so and should be featured first, yadda-yadda. I will never be featured, as I talk enough. ~_o

So, if you have some ideas on how I can chose people (I'm not digging alphabetical order, in case you were thinking about it - although if you lobby that choice, do it well. Who knows. There could be a tide of agreement) for weekly journal features, let me know!

I think the club is going well so far. The only problems have been that of others knowing we're a club and not one person (sometimes), as they'll fav this work and not yours, which is awful! Any time it happens, I send them a note about it, unless they've removed it themselves (50% of the time, they do). Consider this half news, as it's just a little reminder to all of you wonderful members and watchers.
If something isn't working in the club (broken links, files are messed up, typos bothering you) or if you feel submitted artwork isn't up to snuff (not cute, not handmade enough, ect). Send a note. I definitely want to hear all opinions on the club.

~summermagic suggested we have a club chatroom. Now, we do have a forum (and I'll add some topics in there after this journal post), but what do you guys think about organizing group chats? There are a few options to this (creating a chat room, having one on dA...I thought that was possible some how..., everyone jumps on AIM or MSN or something in a group one...), and the major problem is that of time zones.

Time zones and schedules aside, however, would you guys be interested in organizing group chats sometimes? We could have actual club meetings sometimes..maybe hold multiple ones and copy/paste the transcripts for those who missed it. Something like that. We'll see. Talk in the forum about it.

How to Join
Please send a note to ~Cute-Craft with "Join" as the subject line. Also, let me know what sort of crafts you make. Do not comment with a join request. Those get lost and aren't always checked.
Please watch the club and put the club icon in your journal.

Who Should Join
We love ALL watchers, but in order to join, you MUST make cute crafts! If you don't, then you may just watch the club and contribute with love. ^_^ But members are contributors.

How to Submit
Each member is allowed to submit two deviations per week. This does not mean you can submit 8 at once for the month, though. Nor does this mean you have to submit 2 per week. You can submit one per month. It's fine.

Note Cute Craft with a link to your submission.

Submissions are under the maintainer's discretion. While the concept of "Cute" is wide, some things will not be accepted, and a reason will ALWAYS be given. If there is a debate about this, a moderator will be brought in and a discussion will take place. We at Cute Craft conduct ourselves civilly.
