I orginally wanted to join a club for D.N. Angel, but it seems the club for that is dead, so I felt that I should start one for others to have the opportunity..and not many clubs here exist that are dedicated to the talented works of Yukiru Sugisaki... If you do get the oppurtunity to grab one of her works, I suggest you do! They're good! Almost as good as Yuuwatase's.

RULES

[1.] All the journals that are for this Club are for members to comment and talk. It's alright if you want to carry chats! Also, it would be nice if the new members say hi and members welcome the new members! Please?
[2.] If you already won a Contest, you are allowed to enter the following one. If you are sportsman-like though, you will let other people enter and win. Okay?

Are there any requirements for joining?

Yes, you must:

1. Actually love D.N. Angel or D.N.A. ( Otherwise you wouldn't be thinking of joining now would you? And so there won't be any people who seriously hate it as members. )
( Note: D.N.A. is just an abbreviation for D.N. Angel. I know it is another manga, but I am lazy. )
2. Be nice to other members!
3. You must have fun! ( Simple enough right? )

Will I be required to draw anything?

Yes, you will be, a drawing once a month! Lol. No I'm kidding. You don't have to draw anything for this club as that will be handled by me. If you wish to draw something, then I will post it in the section on this page called D.N. Angel Art:.

The Ragun family has been Gakushi for generations, and currently Yen and Jin's father is the head of the family.


Maga: Spirits, Ghosts, etc. that do eavil in the world are collectively known as Maga. Gakushi are all born with a Maga as their ally, and by negotiating with other Maga and making them into allies, they can gain strength as Gakushi.


Omi: Maga call humans, Omi. Also Gakushi have names other than the ones their parents gave them-names they've had since birth, known as Omi names. Those names are for personal knowledge only and they are to tell no one of their original names.


Gakui: Work clothes worn when confronting Maga. They also specify themselves with the family crests.


Gakuki: Tools that amplify power, used when confronting Maga. Passed down as family heirlooms in Gakushi families. When other people though them, they recieve a dangerous shock.


Kekkai: When confronting Maga, a barrier is first set up. The person who set up the barrier decides on a stipulation that is effective on inside the barrier. A stipulation can be anything that would be advantageous in battle, from a large amplification of attack power to preventing death, but it can only be made according to the ablilities of the one who set up the barrier. When a strong Gakushi sets up a barrier around a human, that person is already in a state of yuusei in the presence of a maga. But there are types of barriers that will disappear if that person speaks.


Yuusei and Ressei: If a Gakushi is able to analyze a maga and correectly guess its name, the retain yuusei. Yuusei is a state of having superiority in battle, and attacks on the opponent are one hundred percent effective. On the other hand, if the gakushi name is guessed, they drop to ressei and take damage.


Misei: The initial battle conditions before yuusei or ressei is reached. Also means that both sides have no advantages or disadvantages.


Kamidori: Paper cut into the shape of a bird, used y Gakushi for communication. They write a message on it, and it will fly to the other party like a carrier pigeon. It will reach anywhere in the world and it is more reliable than a cell phone.


Nagi No Engi: Defeated Maga are sealed into books called Zousho. The ceremony where xousho are burned is called the Nagi no Engi. Also from what I speculate is that it is also when an heir is taking the head position of the clan, it is when they burn the books.


Kamen Kugutsushi: The oposite of gakushi - who exorcise and subdue Maga - Kamen Kugutsushi are 'anti-gakushi' who stir Maga to anger. Another job of Gakushi is to stop Kamen Kugutsushi.

A Reclaimer for Orphan these past six years. After a fateful encounter with Hime Utsumiya, Yuu decides that destroying all the inferior humans isn't the best way to save mankind, and attempts to kill his parents, Orphan's leaders. Failing that, he escapes Orphan in a Brain Powered Antibody. A hot-headed young man who lets nothing stand in the way of his goals, he wants to take Orphan on by himself. He despises his parents. He is seventeen years old.



Hime Utsumiya

While taking refuge with her three younger siblings, Hime comes across a newborn Brain Powered and is immediately accepted as its pilot. A kind and gentle older sister type, she is mindful of those around her, but for some reason can't seem to get along with the main character, Yuu Isami. She talks to and about the Brain Powereds as if they were her younger siblings.



Quincy Issa

This is Yuu's older sister, Iiko Isami. Sure of her status as one of the most superior beings on Earth, she rules Orphan with an iron fist. Intolerant of the slightest insubordination, and ought for her brother's blood.



Kanan Gimosu

Yuu's best friend while he was still in Orphan. At first she was angry with Yuu for not talking with her about his plans to leave Orphan; but then she becomes unsure of whether she was right to stay. Tomonori Iwaki

Injured in an accident when he was five years old, middle-schooler Tomonori has a thing for older women. He's crushed when his homeroom teacher gets engaged, and his disappointment is increased when he finds that he's been married off to Rizel, who appears to be a young girl, by his family. When it comes out that he's got a wife who looks like she should be in grade school, his friends don't seem to know if they should be jealous, or treat him like a pervert.



Rizel

Supposedly a "national treasure"--the first human composed of nanomachines, Rizel is totally devoted to the hapless Tomonori. She does everything she can to win his affection in a cute and charming way, but she can go a little out of control if her feelings get hurt. Her past and her actual identity are a mystery.



Aoi Seimoto

Tomonori's cute female classmate. They have a friendly relationship, but no romance (she's too young for him). She attempts to teach Rizel the way to win a man's heart through having her read shojo manga. (specifically, "D.N. Angel" )



Papa 1, 2 & 3

Rizel's Papas apparently are government agents, but they are wholly devoted to her, go on stakeouts to keep an eye on Tomonori and Rizel's dates, and protect her as best they can.



LUX

Rizel's American counterpart, who shows up in Japan to discover the research secrets behind the Protoman Kind project. She and Rizel end up fighting for Tomonori's heart, and their secret ultimate weapons are not what you might have thought...



Ryunosuke Hououin

A rich and somewhat spoiled boy who goes to school with Tomonori. Unlike normal spacecraft, the Ingrids employ a control system that directly reads the thoughts and movements of the Pilots. It's the same system used in the Pro-Ings, but the precision, feedback, and other such attributes of the Ingrids are so much better that the systems can't be compared. But in order to bring out that high power, special equipment is needed for each Ingrid. Here, I will introduce each peice of Ingrid equipment.

Scanner: The mechanism that reads the Pilot's brainwaves and connects them directly to the Ingrid. It could be compared to a second brain, and, to an extent, it can save the Pilot's physical condition and emotions. Floating two centuries above the ears and just above the temples, it can function even if there is something between it and the head. It also rotates around the head.

Ingrid Suit: The suits used specifically by the Pilots. The differ in style, but they are all basically made the same way. They wear extra layers on top of the under part, but the degree of exposure is still fairly high. This is because the accuracy of reading and reproducing the Pilots' movements is much higher when taken from bare skin. The under part and the suit are both made of soft, yet sturdy material.

Z'Skin: The special membrane covering the cockpit. Normally blue in color, if a foreign object enters the cockpit or the movements are abnormal, there's a lot of noise; when the Pilot is injured, it turns red;when the Pilot is on the verge of death, it becomes deep crimson. when the armor is about to fail and the front cockpit panel can't serve its purpose, it has the effect of shock-absortion. Touching it feels like dipping your hand in lukewarm water.

The Ingrids are Giant Humanoid weapons created to protect Zion from the Giseisha. Ultimate War Machines, only five of them exist. As they are all built in the form of women, they all have feminine names. Nicknamed "The Five Goddesses," They are elegant and magnificent in battle. They continue to fight the Giseisha through generations of Pilots.

Ernn Laties: The Ingrid piloted by Teela Zain Elmes. Putting htem in order, she is the top of all the Goddesses.

Eeva Leena: An Ingrid in charge of attack piloted by Gareas Elidd. She has several guns for its individual use.

Tellia Kallisto: An Ingrid in charge of attack piloted by Yu Hikura. Power is very important to her, as she specializes in attacking only.

Agui Keameia: The Ingrid in charge of defense piloted by Rioroute Vilgyna. She can spread a strong defensive shield.

Luhma Klein: The Ingrid in charge of detection and analysis piloted by Ernest Cuore. She can easily find the enemy and transmit tactical data to her team.

Basic Information about the Five Goddesses:

The five Goddesses always fight together as a team. This way, each Goddess has a specific role, and by combining these roles, they can work to their full potential. Currently, the established pattern is: Luhma Klein finds and analyzes the enemy and signals the others; Agui Keameia sets up the sheild; and then Ernn Laties, Eeva Leena, and Tellia Kallisto attack and destroy the enemy.

The system is basically one pilot (must be male), one repairer (must be female), and one Ingrid that has been adjusted specifically for the Pilot, all put together and used as one set.

The possibility of becoming a Pilot is limited to those who, of the four blood types (AA, AB, OX, and EO), have type EO (an extremely rare type), and whose EX is awakened between the ages of fourteen and sixteen. ]]> ~DNAngelYukiru http://DNAngelYukiru.deviantart.com/journal/4206790/ http://DNAngelYukiru.deviantart.com/journal/4206790/ Sat, 06 May 2006 15:14:28 PDT G.O.A.'s System:

The term of enrollment at G.O.A. is three years during that time, the candidates live inside the spaceship. All the facilities needed to train a pilot are contianed within the G.O.A. spacecraft.

The training is extremely fierce, and dropouts are not uncommon. But even if the students make it through all three years, there's no guarantee they will become pilots. One of the current Pilots must stop being avle to Pilot (Due to death or Degeneration of EX), or the Candidate must show abilities superior to those of a current Pilot. For a Candidate to become a Pilot, those are the only two paths.

For the three-year enrollment, G.O.A., has put together various curricula.

In lecture, everything about G.O.A., the Ingrids, etc. Is thoroughly drilled into the students, starting with the basics. When new Candidates are enrolled, and their training programs for their pro-ings are adjusted accordingly.

Futhermore, while inside G.O.A., all the Candidates' EX are neutralized to a degree so they can live normal lives.

About the Uniforms

Not only the Candidates, but everyone in G.O.A. is required to wear a uniform. If you think of the most densely populated part of G.O.A. as a school, you could say that that's obvious. Furthermore, since cleanliness is also a requirement for pilots, long hair is forbidden.

Candidate: The Goddess Candidates are required to wear uniforms. As it is the casual wear for all the Candidates, they wear it under all circumstances except training. Aside form this uniform, they have a pilot suit worn only while in their practice vehicles. And for special occasions, they each have a special jacket used for official events and such.

Repairers: All the necessary personnel in charge of repairing the Pro-Ings are women. Unlike the Goddess Candidates, they are sent to G.O.A. to train to be repairers; they are Repairer Candidates. They study everything related to repairing the Pro-Ings and are thoroughly trained to think of protecting the lives of the Pilots and the Machines. Like the Candidates, the Repairers are required to wear uniforms. Hats and gloves are also part of the uniform.

Starlog 4088, due to the "Crisis of Systems (Lost Property)", which involved Four Star Systems, we, mankind, having lost the planets on which we lived, escaped to space. Henceforth, to this day, we have forced to live in space colonies.

Our last hope, the planet Zion, remains, but the unidentified beings, "Giseisha," cast a dark shadow over that hope.

Mankind concentrated all its efforts into building the giant Humanoid weapons, "Ingrids (Goddesses)," which we use to fight the Giseisha. But only those who have met the unusually strict requirements can become pilots of the Goddesses. So, to find and train those few people out of the many applicants to become a pilots, G.O.A. (Goddess Operator Academy) was established.

Zion:

Zion is the last planet, our last remaining hope. All mankind wishes to someday set foot on that planet. Furthermore, as all information is thoroughly controlled by the government, very little is known about Sion, but there is no doubt that Zion is to us the one and only "Promised Land".

The Enemy: Giseisha:

A repairer Candidate. Her partner is Hied Gner. Shy and reserved, she's not very good at speaking her mind. She's always getting in trouble with the insctructor because she is awkward and clumsy, but she can deal wiht things twice as well as most people. Ikhny admires Kinza for her ability to clearly state what she's thinking and is always striving to be like her.

A Repairer Candidate. Her partner is Clay Cliff Fortran. A bright and cheerful girl, Saki takes everything very optimistically. Her behaviour is somewhat overly-dramatic and she likes to nose around in other people's business. She wants to be a Mechanic because, "It looks interesting." She has no real attachment to the work itself. Saki is very interested in her partner because they have a lot in common.

When he first entered G.O.A., he was 15kg overweight, but, with the guidance of his partner Wrecka, he successfully went on a diet and slimmed down almost beyond recognition. He has a gentle personality and doesn't like fighting. He is aware that he is indecisive, and is putting forth.

Yen and Jin

These brothers fight like cats and dogs. They argue about every stupid litle thing there is to argue about. Often Yen, being the "responsible older brother", does or makes Jin do something Jin doesn't like, and then they start fighting/arguing/pulling each other's faces. Hehe. Actually, it's usually Yen pulling Jin's face, but that's beside the point. However, they really do love each other, protect each other, and would die for each other if need be.


The Ragun brothers and their Parents

Oh, they all get along pretty well...I think; Well, the dad gets along really well with his sons, and is always very kind and nice to them. Their mom can sometimes be ticked off with the brothers (especially Jin, being the naughty little guy he is) but usually there aren't any problems. The Ragun brothers really look up to their mom and dad, and their mom and dad helps them and gives them advice.


Yen and Ayato

At first when Ayato came to live with them, Yen wasn't too happy...he was slightly suspicious of him, and besides, Ayato is supposedly Yen's rival. However, slowly he grew to trust him and be good friends with him. As for any shounen-ai between Yen and Ayato, well, it's possible, I guess...but they are related, so... Also, recently in the monthly installments Yen and Ayato seem to be getting... rather close... hmm. Is this a sign? And Yen always blushes around Ayato too... supposedly out of embarrassment, but... *shrug*


Jin and Ayato

The two of them are quite good friends. Jin treats Ayato the way he treats Yen (only better, lol) and is very friendly with him. But other than that, there isn't much to say. They are just good friends.


Jin and Yerei

They fight a LOT. Yes. They argue, fight, pull each other's hair out...or rather, it's Yerei pulling Jin's hair out, lol. The two of them might end being a couple, but it doesn't seem inevitable just now.


Ayato and Yerei

Yerei likes (no, adores) Ayato, Ayato is indifferent. Ayato just said "ohayo" and Yerei fell head over heels in love with him. Heheh. Yerei thinks of Ayato as her "prince".


Yen and Maki

It's very possible that they might end up together. So what if she's a little older than Yen, it's just 2 years at most right? The two of them get along pretty well, and Yen is sorta...different around her, and vice-versa. Also, he gave her that thingamagig, right? As a souvenir of him. No blushing or anything for evidence, but still.

About: Err, the protagonist of Lagoon Engine. So far, anyway. He's the elder son in the Ragun family. Yen is really, really smart-he's been number 1 for 5 consecutive years on the National Elementary School Exam. He's kind of serious, doesn't joke or fool around that much. He's quiet and polite. He has a very refined, careful way of speaking. Also, since he's the elder he often feels responsible for his younger brother, Jin, and Jin really does have to be dragged around a lot. Yen is very kind and thoughtful, and does not show his feelings easily. However, when he does get angry, he gets very angry. He is very rational; he always thinks things out carefully before making any decisions.

ILLNESS
Yen has an illness of some sort; an illness that has no cure. It seems to be a sort of allergy, and the doctor said that "the source of the illness came from within". He has to take pills every day. However, he hardly ever takes them. He ended up in the hospital in chapter 3 because although the illness was gone, if he doesn't maintain a regular lifestyle and take his pills, the illness would come back again. (Yen was staying up all night reading... which is NOT maintaining a regular, healthy lifestyle...) He has a very rare disease, but we weren't told what the disease actually was.

MAGA
Yen has a creature (a good maga) named Koga that helps him translate what the maga says. Koga is not that good at fighting (actually, can't fight at all) but translates [magago] into human language and also is good at deducing the name of the maga. He is very loyal to Yen and appears as soon as Yen says the word.

POWERS
Pretty much the same as the other gakushi. He casts kekkais and fights maga and all that stuff. He also uses Koga for translating into "maga's language". However, he also has strange dreams (prophetic, maybe?) and something like a 6th sense. He sometimes feels things that others can't-spiritual/sacred things. His gakuki is, well, just a rather nondescript spear.

IN-DEPTH
Yen is really a very interesting character. A very compassionate and kind person, who will do anything for his family and friends. He is, he has everything-he's a model child, has special powers, a good relationship with his parents, intelligence, a happy family, and so on. But yet, although he acts in control and self-confident, he is very insecure about himself, and who he will become. Because he knows that someday, either he or his brother will be head of the Ragun family, he feels a lot of pressure. He's given a lot of responsibility to bear. He's very confused about everything in life, and doesn't know what he wants to do with his life, even though he has so much potential. The dream he had only adds to the confusion, but he hides his insecurity and questions behind a mask of self-assurance. He doesn't want anyone to see his heart and what he really feels. Whenever something painful happens, he hides it inside him. He doesn't abuse his power for things other than spiritual things, because the gakushi is very important to him.

One night, a boy named Yen has a dream about a guy who offers a hand to him and says, "let's go together". Yen doesn't understand his dream, but finds it very odd/disconcerting. It turns out that Yen is part of the Ragun family, and are "master musicians"-people who fight against "maga", evil spirits and monsters that often appear suddenly out of nowhere (or so it seems). Someday, either Yen or Jin (his brother) will become head of the Ragun household. And that, my friends, is all I can tell you about the plot. Who is the dream guy? What did he mean by "let's go together"? Well, we'll have to wait and see. Hrrm.

In short, the Ragun family work to rid the world of unfriendly ghosts and spirits called "maga". The brothers Yen and Jin help with this also.

1. Why is it called Lagoon Engine?

Well, it's complicated. See, in Japanese mythology, lagoons have a magical importance, and-- Err! Okay, okay! I admit it, I have NO idea why this series is called Lagoon Engine! And I lied about the whole "magical importance of lagoons" thing! Maybe Sugisaki-sensei just picked two words out of an English dictionary at random. Here... Let me do the same thing really quick and see what I come up with... Okay, still with me? Jump Climate--that's what I got. Hey, that sounds kinda cool, actually! So, to answer your question, I simply don't know. It will remain an eternal mystery. All right, I'm teasing you all, of course. So, I'll at long last reveal why this series is called Lagoon Engine. It's a play on our main characters' names--Yen and Jin Ragun. In Japanese, "Ragun Yen Jin" is phonetically pronounced as "Lagoon Engine." Get it?



2. What's it like to work with Sugisaki-sensei?

Sugisaki-sensei is very particular about her books, including Lagoon Engine and D.N.Angel. For example, she's very involved in approving the covers we use for her books. She also reads our adaptations of our works, so when I'm working on one of her creations, I do my best to be faithful to her original vision. When it comes to Sugisaki-sensei, I'm always on my toes!



3. Why was there a TOKYOPOP Robofish in volume 1?

Wow. You have keen eyes! Well, there's an innocent shower scene in Volume 1, and a white circle covers up Jin Ragun's privates. In the original Japanese book, the circle contained the following text: Kadokawa. Kadokawa, of course, is the Japanese publisher of Lagoon Engine. So, for our adaptation of Lagoon Engine, we thought it would be pretty hilarious (and brilliantly clever) to replace "Kadokawa" with TOKYOPOP's Robofish. Maybe we should hide a Robofish in every book we publish!



4. Is Lagoon Engine a shonen-ai series?

Of course not! Despite the aforementioned shower scene, Lagoon Engine is totally innocent. It's a very youth-oriented series. Hmmm... although, you could say there are a few boy-on-boy crushes in the book, but it's all harmless subtext.



5. How does the relationship among your siblings compare to that of Yen and Jin?

Yen and Jin have a ton of sibling rivalry. It's a good way to maintain drama and tension in the series. I have one brother. His name is Andrew, and he's thirteen years younger than I am. Although we don't have any magical abilities or ghostbusting skills, my initials are P.M. and his are A.M. I always thought that was kinda cool. Anyway, I suppose I am most like Yen, since I'm the oldest and I always did really well in school. Like Jin, my stubborn brother has a short fuse. Unlike Yen and Jin, though, we don't have much of a rivalry. For one thing, we're in two totally different professions. I'm an editor and he's a racecar driver! But I guess we do get pretty competitive when we play video games against each other. That brat always beats me at Madden!



6. Can you explain how the fighting unravels?

Lagoon Engine is a manga (Japanese Comic) by Yukiru Sugisaki, the author/mangaka of D.N.Angel, Megami Kouhousei, and Rizelmine. It's currently running in Asuka, and it had started-I think-in February 2001. However, it stopped for a little while after a few chapters, and made a comeback in 2002. Right now, however, it's halted (AGAIN!!) and it's unsure when it's going to be back. (evil bunny-sensei!) The first tankoubon was released on December 27th, 2002.

Yukiru Sugisaki was born on December 26, a Capricorn with blood type O. Her hobbies are dramas, video games, and 'collecting rabbit things.' She made her debut in Asuka Magazine with Namaiki no N.Her other works include DNAngel, Rizelmine, and Lagoon Engine (her newest manga).

Sugisaki-san is also the artist of the BrainPowered and Candidate for Goddess mangas, both of which have been animated. Her Neutral artbook contains artwork from DNAngel, BrainPowerd, and Candidate for Goddess. She has also penned the well-known Sotsugyo M.

Yukiru Sugisaki is a very talented mangaka with gorgeous artwork. She earned the nickname "bunny-sensei" among her fans because she seems to be obsessed with rabbits. In all of her "self-portraits", she never draws her own face, and often draws herself with a bunny mask on.

Character Information/Background Plot


Daisuke Niwa was an average teenager... until his fourteenth birthday.

After being rejected by his crush, Risa Harada, Daisuke realizes that something is wrong. Very wrong. Poor Daisuke had inherited the Niwa family's 'curse'. When he feels strong emotions (namely towards Risa) Daisuke transforms into The Legendary Phantom Thief- Dark Mousy. After the transformation, Daisuke is shoved into the passenger seat as the art thief takes command.

A charming part of D.N.Angel is the love... circles... it contains. Daisuke has a crush on Risa Harada who thinks him too plain to be a boyfriend. Risa, however, is in love with Dark who immediately rejects her. Dark is oddly attracted to Riku Harada, Risa's twin sister. Riku, in turn, dislikes Dark and (?) seems to fancy Daisuke. Satoshi, a boy in Daisuke's class, appears to have feelings for Daisuke and tries to protect him while, at the same time, tries to capture Dark Mousy. Krad, dear Krad, is obsessed with Satoshi and tries to kill both Daisuke and Dark.

Daisuke Niwa

A 14-year-old student at Azumano Middle School. He has a unique genetic condition that causes him to transform into the infamous Phantom thief Dark whenever he has romantic feelings. His family have been Phantom Thieves for 400 years.



Dark

The legendary Phantom thief Dark, who's returned after a forty-year absence. When Daisuke thinks about his feelings towards Risa, he turns into Dark...and when Dark thinks about Riku, he turns back into Daisuke.




Risa Harada

Also in Daisuke's class. Daisuke told her how he felt about her...but she rejected him. She's been in love with Dark ever since the first time she saw him on TV.




Riku Harada

In Daisuke's class. She's been thinking about Daisuke lately, although she's not sure why. She's still upset that Dark stole a kiss from her...




Wiz

A mysterious animal who acts as Dark's familiar and who can transform into many things. He's been with Daisuke's family for generations. And...he hates water.
Wiz Transformed: One of Wiz's transformations - he becomes black wings that Dark can fly with.




Takeshi Saehara

The son of Police Inspector Saehara, who is after Dark. He's obsessed with becoming a famous reporter and uses his dad's connections to find news.




Satoshi Hitwatari

Supposedly a normal middle school student, but he's also the special commander of the police operation to capture Dark.

Hiwatari Keishichou

Aside from the fact that they both wear glasses and work for the police force, Hiwatari-keishichou and his adopted son ,Satoshi, have absolutely NOTHING in common. Mr. Hiwatari is a very calculating, cold young man, onl... ]]> ~DNAngelYukiru
