I am *AsianRedneck . As you may already know, =CowboyCasper , our previous (and fabulous) admin has passed the reins over to me.

I just wanted to say hi and to ensure you that nothing is really gonna change in ~DRebels . I intend to keep the integrity and honor this site has within DA.

I will be running a contest very soon.

I like to keep things short and sweet.

To subscribe with ~DRebels will remain the same, just devwatch ~DRebels and send a note with "Join" as the title. I will add you to the members list within a day or two.

CHANGE! We are asking that new members send one of their works of art along with their request to join so we may start featuring it in our gallery.

As such, my 300D is going into retirement (or rather, the used equipment market!).

No Digital Rebel = No real use here.


The original plan when I took over this group was to try and grow it (which has been happening at a decent rate) and try and get more activity (A decent number of posts, but would have still preferred more submissions, and more discussion). Also, I was planning on co-administering it with *AsianRedneck, but the volume didn't justify 2 administrators.

Over the next little bit, he'll be taking over the reins, so to speak. I'll still be here and there, poking my head in from time to time. In the meantime, give him a warm welcome!

- A flurry of new members, and submissions. Y'all are keeping me busy with the new submissions! Great work!
- Gonna run a contest soon for a new DevID for the group. When I hammer out the details, i'll let you know.

With all of the new submissions, you'll notice that there are instructions directing you back to the original deviation for comments. This should increase the pageviews for the artist, and allow them to interactively respond to comments in a single place.

However, I am also considering adding a small blurb of my own to some of the new submissions, similar to how the Daily Deviations have a quick note from the person who put it up. Lemme know what you think of this....

Joining:
Simply add the group to your Friends list, and add a tag in your signature if possible.

Submissions:
Simply send the group a note with a link to the image in your gallery, and i'll get it up in a timely fashion. See [link] for some submission guidelines and other info.

Well, I stepped up and got the password for this group from ~myndbyndr after volunteering my services as admin. And here I am.

About Me:

I go by =CowboyCasper here on DA. Everyone else calls me Chris. I'm by no means a DA veteran, but i've been using Canon film cameras since a child, and was an early adpoter of the digital imaging format (including my brief affair with Sony Cybershot cams). I don't work in the industry directly, nor do I have a 'studio' per se. I just take my 300D, 4 lenses, and other misc goodies with me almost everywhere.



The Group:

Well, i'm working on sorting out a few things with this group. We already have some great work on here, and its easy to say that more is on the way. The release of the 350D/Rebel XT has brought the price of the original 300D down, opening up the hobby to even more people. Combine that with the explosion in Digital Photography.... heck, at this year's industry expo, there were NO NEW 35mm cameras introduced.

As for the group itself, the general layout won't change too much, but the way things work probably will.

From what I can gather, if a 300D user wanted to be part of the group, then they would email the admin, and get access to post whatever they want. That, as great as it is, leaves things wide open for someone to pop in and either delete everything, or REALLY mess stuff up. At this point, the password has been changed, and things are gonna be a bit more like the other groups here on DA. If you want to be a 'member', just add the group to your friends list, and add a link to the group in your signature. This will make it less work for me, easier to join, and easier to promote.

As for picture submissions...... simply send the group a note (not directly.... just the group) with a link to the image in your gallery, and i'll get it up in a timely fashion. I'll be creating a standard description format to keep things nice and uniform.

Now, a word about content. It will be, in no way possible, my intent to censor any content submitted. This being said, the group is intended to be a place to share technique and knowledge, and showcase the BEST that the users of these cameras can produce. Please don't send a note for EVERY Deviation you submit.... only what you feel is your best work, and deserving of a showcase.

Here are things that would be best kept to your personal gallery:

- Snapshots of your family, friends, or yourself goofing around. Ditto for pets.

- Pornographic images. I like porn as much as the next red-blooded male, but it has its place. An online art community isn't it. DA's basic submission policies pretty well take care of this aspect, however.

- Excessive gore/gothic themed/cemetaries etc. Despite the fact that i'm, for lack of a better term, a redneck/hick/good 'ol boy, I have a VERY open mind (being a bastard, adopted stepchild with a lesbian mother will do that to ya!). Still.... its overdone. We're looking for technical and artistic merit here....

- Overly manipulated images. This is a photography showcase, remember. Post processing in the program of your choice is fine, to a point.



Well, all of this being said, I am extremely open to feedback. Feel free to send the group a note about any concerns or opinions on anything said above. Notes or comments sent to my personal account regarding group issues WILL NOT be replied to.

Digital is here to stay, and will one day almost completely overshadow film, whether we like it or not. The advancements in digital are swift and continuous, and as the processing power and megapixel count rises higher, the closer the digital photo can be compared to film. Photo processing numbers are dropping and home printing supplies are in demand. Wolf Camera and 1-hour developing centers are having to rapidly rethink and adjust their marketing stratagies.

Alot of us have probably used film before, and quite possibly still do, and you are always gonna have your purists as well. So, lets talk:

What do you think of the digital photo revolution? Where do you think it will lead in the next few years? Will film go the way of Old Yeller?

With the introduction of the DRebel/300D, many of us were able to finally break into the coveted DSLR market. And the vast majority of us are glad we could - it allows a whole new level with the amount of control, the addition of interchangable lenses and the easily manipulable and filmless advantages of digital.


Though labeled the "entry level" camera of the targeted market, this camera can produce images far from it. Especially and specifically seen in DeviantArt, the uses and quality of the camera have been taken to incredible heights and produced amazing photos and outstanding memories.


DRebels wants to dive as deep as we can into our cameras. Our purpose is not to exclude those with cameras other than ours, but for us to share and benefit from the skill and knowledge that users of the same technology hold. DRebels wants to provide a place for DRebel/300D users to post some of their great photos, seasoned Canon users to disperse their invaluable wisdom and tips, and new users or curious users to ask questions, see samples of the photo quality and hopefully receive some technique help.
