Hello guys,

Well, here I am again, seeking artists that want to work on freelance projects. We have the paperwork ready and the legal stuff almost done. We will be up and running as an art design agency early next year.

We are closing deals with several clients to ensure that all artists will have projects soon. So far we have a deal with 2 book publishers, 1 Tshirt company and 2 videogame studios. Those are the closed deals, the deals we still have to polish are with 1 film production studio and 3 animation studios (2 from Mexico and 1 from Argentina).

We will have a site for the agency soon too, one part of the site will be public but another part will be private for our clients to see and for the artists to update.

We are looking for Illustrators, photographers, web designers, 3D modelers, animators, sculptors, painters and writters. All people that could join an art design department, the important thing is to have a lot of talent and creativity.

Hello guys, how are you doing?

I'm begining to think that this journal will pass to be from semi-weekly to semi-montly he he....

anyways.....


Today I talked with the Dean of the Animation and Digital Arts department at ITESM campus Guadalajara and asked me to help her out to organize an event here in Guadalajara where we will have the director and staff of an animated movie made in Mexico called "La Leyenda de la Nahuala". Of course I said yes, this is another oportunity for me to continue with my documentary on the animation industry in Mexico. I will get to interview and hang out with these guys that dared to make an animated feature made for Mexico, IN Mexico and about Mexican myths and legends. So kudos to them!

We will have a screening of the movie, after that a conference with the creators and a Q&A session right after. There might something else, but I cannot say more at this time. This evento will be held at CINEPOLIS Galerias Guadalajara (FAmous Multiplex movie theater here in Guadalajara) on Saturday November 17, if you want to go and live round Guadalajara or would like to travel to GUadalajara for the event, please let me know and I will be more than glad to get you some acess pass or something.

Hello Y'all....

I'm back again to post for the world a piece of my amazing and interesting life as a secret agent for the CIA..... yeah right....


well any ways, Creanimax came and went with lots of good things I believe. I met some very interesting people from studios from around the world.

I don't remember if I ever said this in a previous journal, but I'm producing a documentary on the Animation Industry in Mexico... past, present and future. If I did mentioned before, good if not... well, now you know.

The point is that I got to interview lot's of people and now I have like 8 hours of footage to review, capture, edit, postproduce, etc.... so it's a loooooot of work, but quite interesting really.

I have much work behind because of Creanimax, but it was well worth it. So I guess I won't sleep much during the weekend to catch up.

Today I got home I saw my precious little baby girl wathching the TV and giggling and getting all excited with a Mickey Mouse cartoon.... I'm so blown away by my girl, it's amazing how a 3 month old baby can actually recognize Mickey Mouse on tv and get all excited and bouncy just from seeing it.

I know she recognizes Mickey because she loves a Baby Mickey Mouse musical toys we got her from Walt Disney World last Xmas and she has several Mickeys in her room. So yes, she does know who Mickey is so I hope she loves Disney as much as we (her parents) do and hopefully she will want to work in the future on something that involves drawing, creating or animating.

Both my wife and I are designers and illustrators, and one time a student of our told us... It would suck if your kid, having two very creative guys as parents ended up as an accountant or something like that....

I won't comment on that any further, but if I have something to do with it, my baby girl will never be an accountant...... unless she really really really wants to be one..... But I hope she won't

It's that time again for another episode of the dinamic duo..... oh.... no... wait.... wrong channel....

errrrr



aaaah yes!!! Now I remember....


It's that time again, for my semi-weekly journal update... Last week I was supposed to be on vacations, right? well WRONG! tons to do and I got sick with the flu! that knocked me down for two full days.... so two full days less to do my stuff....

Oh well, got a little behind, but now I'm getting back on track....

This week, actually to be more accurate, today friday 5th, Creanimax will be open for the public. For those of you who don't know what CREANIMAX is, it's a animation and videogame production festival in Guadalajara. This year promises to be way better than last year, but it's just that a PROMISE, nothing is for sure until the thing actually ends and we get to count our wins and losses.


If you have time (AND money, the admission is $10 USD per day and $20 USD for the 3 days, and if you want to go to the conferences you have to pay almost $200 USD), please stop by and check it out.

I will be attending today to interview a bunch of weirdos, freaks and geeks.... no, not the general public that will be attending, I will be interviewing the expositors, teachers, professionals, etc.. but I will also be interviewing all the freaks, geeks and weirdos that will be attending as general public so no one get's left behind.


So anyways, if you can... go... if can't, well.... don't....

Today I got great news on the phone, I have one week vacations!! WEEEEEEEEEEE!!! well, at least from classes, I have vacations from UNICO and now from TEC but I still have loads of work to do, so I will be able to get on with it non-stop.

I'm designing a few character for a role playing game, I will upload the first drafts this week for you to see and hopefully to have some feedback on it. I have to make the layout of a children's book, I have all the text and almost half the illustrations. I have to prepare my clasess for next week and a graduate course on premier and flash animation. On top of that I have to play Mr. Fix-it around the house for there are still some details to be worked up. Also I promised a friend to draft a design of him and his wife, you know who you are, don't think that I've forgoten about you. So I'm not really on vacation, but at least I'll have time to finish all this.

I still have to present myself to the 3rd group today, but now I'm more confident that what I'm doing, if not perfect, at least is atractive to the students and are paying attention to me and working on their personal projects, these two actions alone are pure gold for any teacher

Also I was invited to join the staff of the Animation department on the stand they will have on Creanimax, an animation festival organized by a friend of mine, Jorge Morales, please visit their site if you can: [link] I will join, but I will also attent on my on to continue with my documentary on Mexican animation and visual effects' industry, so if you go to Creanimax we will see each other there.

I'm also a little bumed out because I teach at UNICO, and today is my last day of final exams, but it's complete chaos here due to the fact that they changed Head Dean and the new one is stating a lot of new "rules" in hopes to straigten out the institution, but the only thing that those rules have done so far is cause trouble amonst the students, the directors and the student administration... So I hope my students get to fix all their problems before the end of the week.

Well, I guess this is all I have to say at the moment, I know it's not very interesting, truth revealing or world changing... but hey, it's my life and I want to share it with you guys.

I've been recently comissioned to create a documentary on the Animation Industry in Mexico, how it's growing, who it's main clients are, what people in Mexico that want to study animation think about the industry, what professionals in other parts of the world think of the animation industry in Mexico, etc.

It's a hard job because to tell you the turth, the industry is in daipers and some people want to think that we are in the major leagues now. But first we would have to reach the BOLLYWOOD level before we can say that we are at HOLLYWOOD level.

Don't get me wrong, there are some studios that have the knowledge and technical experience to perform some very high quality effects and animations, the problem is that there is just a handfull of those studios.

The educational institutions are just begining to offer animation as a major or specialty, so the real boom of the animation industry will begin in about 4 or 5 years when we start seeing new young talent surface.

If you would like to comment on this subject I would help me a whole deal to complete my work... changing subject I would also like to note that I am getting the flue.... and I DON'T WANT TO!! BUUWWAAAAA!!! I have to much to do to get sick at this time. I need chicken soup and a pill.
