As an 80's baby, I'm right in the middle of a HUGE cultural gap, but I've noticed that...from early-to-mid 90s on, I just can't enjoy popular music anymore. At first I thought it was simply the boy band--Brittany Spears influence, because that's simply not my taste, but as I've been reading what other people are starting to say, maybe it's not just that.

Has mainstream music completely lost the warmth and emotional connection that had made music such a huge cultural influence? Is that why it's been so long since we've had an Elvis, or a Madonna, or a Michael Jackson? (and I don't mean the pale imitation some of those artists have become of themselves, either.)

I HAVE become really fascinated with Adam Lambert as of late and it's starting to occur to me that maybe it's not just because he's adorable. I've always been a big fan of music, even though I can't play a note of it myself, but I've always gravitated back to the 80s, 70s, and even the 60s and 50s rather than current music, because there's just something about it that....really gets inside of you, I think.

This article by Ann Powers really got my attention, though, and got me wondering.

Why IS it so important for so many people that Adam Lambert win what is, essentially, a popularity contest judged by record label standards, and an army of tween girls?

And maybe it's not just about Adam, either. In an interview with Michael Slezak from EWs Idolatry, former contestant Lil Rounds talk about how music has become cold, and lost the warmth of the older generations. And...that really connected with me, to the point that I have to think there's something to it.

Am I the only one that feels this way?

Well, that's the good news. The bad news is I feel like I'm waiting for the world to end. Our rent is a month late, and soon a second month will be due. Our power bill is due on the 6th, or they'll turn that off. Our Water bill is so late it's not funny and I'm amazed they HAVEN'T turned it off. Who knows when our cable is due again. But we don't have the money to pay for any of it.

Mom's been sick as a dog with her chemo since we can't afford to get her the really good nausea medicine, and next month we need another $400 for her health insurance or we're kinda screwed there. The only bright side seems to be that we finally got approved for food stamps so won't go hungry. But it seems absolutely impossible to get a job around here lately. And considering I've only had one job before in my life, I have absolutely no references. u_u

On another note, I DO want to thank everyone who commissioned me for pictures. KNow you will probably be paying my power bill, and I am thankful *hugs all around*

CONTINUED:

As we resume our journey through the magical land of Yaoi, our group wakes up friday morning (abhorrently early)only to discover that our feast from 7-11 the day before hadn't done much to fill us up, and we were very much hungry.

Hungry enough to brave the in-hotel resturaunt, with it's $18 breakfast buffet....Ryu and I split a Belgian waffle platter; it seemed to work out quite well XD




Shi-chan had herself a feast of many things my untrained eye was unable to identify. >D

After Breakfast, we returned to the room to get ready for day one of the con. This involved much last minute wig fixing, and a lot of playing around in funny coats. >D





Ryu makes such a sexy Marly, dammit. >D

After registration, however, it turns out we had absolutely nothing to do. XD There were a couple panels, but the dealer's rooms wouldn't open until saturday. So....it was back to the room for more hanging out doing nothing but reading and drawing penises, and Roleplaying! >D

And another trip to 7-11 of course,to keep the poor Neophytes from starving.



Also, have you ever taken a picture through a kaleidoscope? It is a very weird thing.



After much roleplaying we fangirls tucked ourselves back into to bed to make sure we would be up for the dealer's rooms in the morning >D

XD Alright, I'm finally recovered enough from massive jet-lag and exhaustion to give a summation of my weekend at the most magical place on earth (for a yaoi fangirl).

My weekend started off on thursday morning (about 2:30 am) when I headed to the Raleigh/Durham airport, where I sat for several hours waiting to check in my bags and go through security for my fight....to at Atlanta, where I waited ANOTHER hour for my flight to San Francisco. XD Factoring in Time Zones, I made it to SF around 10am -ish Pacific time. And upon coming out of the security gate, I was besieged by fangirls! On very very VERY hyper and her much more mellow roomie Let me just say, the two coolest people to room with. Evar. >D

There was more waiting to be had, this time outside for the shuttle bus to take us to the con hotel. Turns out the San Mateo Marriot no longer has a shuttle of it's own, so they had to hire a shuttle for the occassion. XD It was certainly one of the spiffiest busses I've ever been on...and now as I eye the spell check, I marvel that 'spiffiest' is actually a real word. *brick'd*

Back to the story! Or more precisely, images for this part of the story. It turns out Dai-chan is a little camera happy

Continuing on, we headed for our hotel to check in, and....lo and behold, if we want to pay with cash (and have no credit card with the full hotel price on it) we must pay a $150 deposit. This is where Dai says goodbye to all her spending money and Ryu loses some as well D: Stupid hotel.

Still, we managed to get checked in (though not before spending about an hour vegging out in the lounge, RPing and whatnot. (On a sidenote, Ryu is a typing machine! @_@ I swear to god.)

We get a nice first floor room (I forsee trouble already) and when we get there, we discover it will be one bed for all three of us....>D

Now, being the obsessive fangirls we are, there was only one thing to do once we got all settled into our room and unpacked.

Well, there's going to be a delay before my next picture probably. I've finally started working on my Vexen costume for Yaoi-con *___* And since I hand sew, this will take a little time. But I can't wait. *dances around eagerly. My hair's growing out, and everything's looking like it will be ready in time.

Incredible giddiness aside, I'm still working on getting all the monies I need for the trip scraped together XD I don't think they'd like me camping out in the lobby of the hotel because I don't have the money for the room. *shotdead*

Well, Monday morning we'll be driving up to Virginia for my grandmother's funeral. I've never been to one before, and I can't particularly say I'm looking forward to it. And on Tuesday mom gets to have Pre-op done so she can have surgery to remove a cystic mass from her ovaries that's roughly the size of a baseball (O.o) Which, very hopefully, is benign. The last thing mom needs now is cancer.
Again.
But, needless to say, when she has to take the time off from work, money's going to be really tight, and hopefully we'll at least be able to keep the bills paid. ~_~ I still can't seem to get a job; no one even calls back about my applications. *mutter* Hopefully, somehow I'll still manage to scrape together all the money I need for Yaoi-con in September.

Alrighty, it's been decided, I'm going to start merchandising my art. Since I seriously need the money, hopefully it will work out well XD

To start with, these are the products I'll be offering to people in the US. If you live outside the US, I'll have to charge extra for shipping X_X

If you'd like to have one of my pictures as one of these things, then drop me a note or an e-mail, and I'll get you the prices. (varying for size, style, etc)

Secondly, I'm also going to start charging for commissions *hides from the lynch mob* Now, this is not to say that I won't draw people gift art from time to time when the feeling strikes, or that I won't draw stuff simply because I want to. But...yeah XD

I only have one basic rule for commissions:.....no OCs, please! XD *hides once more* And while I mainly prefer KH, I am willing to do other animes/video games too (With the exception of YGO...because if I ever draw that again, my soul will DIE o_o)

Prices for commissions will go as follows:

Line art: $15 for 1-2 characters. An extra $3 for each additional characters

Color: $20 for 1-2 characters. $5 for each additional character.

$5 for a background XD

Porn prices: (No porn merchandizing, sadly. If you want it on a poster or something, it'll have to be censored)

Soft-core: regular price + $3

Hard-core: regular price + $5

So....yeah. Commissions are now open! X3 And of course, if you commission a picture, you'll get a discount on having it put on an item, such as a poster or whatnot. And the commission will only be posted with a large watermark, so only the person ordering it will get the unmarred version.

And lastly, since I don't use paypal, I'll be accepting payments through check/money order. (International postal money orders for outside the US)

XD I finally got my 20k pageviews, which is incredible. It took me five YEARS to get about 6k, and I've gotten the rest since January. Who knew 411 was so popular??? You guys out there are so awesome though!
