This is my first Contest. I’m holding it as a spring/summer celebration type thing as well as for my fifteenth birthday. I am very excited and I hope it will be enjoyable for the contestants. So, let’s get started!

DUE DATE: All Entries are due on August 19th, 2005. Please note that the Deadline is rather flexible and can be altered if necessary.

I've decided to give an the Contest an extension. I'll be attending Upward Bound as well as another camp. So that'll give you all some more time to do your Entries and meke them look prettyful. Don't worry though, I'll still be here to comment, fav, and add all of the contestants entries to the Entries list at the bottom of this journal entry. Thank you for your attention!

MEDIUM: There aren’t any restrictions on the Medium you use for your entry. You may use pencil, pen, marker, pastel, your computer, crayon, etc.

JUDGING: To be fair, I will not be judging the Entries. Instead, 10 Judges will be selected. Five of them will be from deviantART while the others will be close friends/family/teachers from real life. Judges are not allowed to enter the contest.

OBJECTIVE/THEME

Category One:
To draw one of my characters doing something fun and spring-y or birthday-oriented. It can be anything you wish, except for porn, sexual behaviour, or anything of that sort. (see Rule 3)

Category Two:
Draw my persona, Ookami/Taiga to the Lyrics of "Bring Me to Life" by Evanescence. (That's the song I'm currently obsessed with lol) If you choose to enter in this Category, you must somehow incorperate the lyrics into the Entry.

RULES
1.) HAVE FUN!
2.) Contestants may have up to two Entries per category.
3.) There is to be no porn, sexual behavior, harassment, or any sexually themed entries, murder, suicide, drug use/abuse, homosexuality, etc., etc. However, I will accept some nudity (were/anthro ONLY) as long as it isn’t anything nasty as well as some blood/gore as long as it has to do with wolfish behavior. (Eating, hunting, etc.) But as I stated before, nothing too excessive.
4.) Don’t be afraid to ask me if you have any questions about the contest or my characters. I won’t bite!

"I have too much time on my paws. . . And it’s crushing them! Ouch!"

Meh, I have far too much time on my paws. There's so much time and so little to do. Well, here's a funny little joke/story my friend told me. I hope you enjoy it.



David was the sweetest little boy you could ever meet. His manners could be considered to be flawless and he was polite to everyone he met, including animals.

Little David's tenth birthday was coming on fast so his parents decided to give him a very, very special gift. On the evening before their son's big day, they stopped in at the local animal shelter. They searched for a good two hours for the perfect pet; cats, dogs, and even ferrets. Sadly, none of them seemed perfect for David.

They were disappointed that there weren't anything of interest and they were preparing for their return journey when the secretary at the front desk asked them to come into the back room with her. As the door opened, they laid their eyes upon a parrot quietly perched inside o his cage. David's parents looked at one another in agreement and soon they were driving home with the parrot.

David's birthday came and went. At the last moment, his mom and dad gave the parrot to him. Afterward, he took the parrot up to his room to see if he could teach the gorgeous emerald bird to talk.

David spoke in a gentle tone as he reached out to stroke the bird's feathers. Suddenly the parrot's shrill voice shattered the air with words so horrible that they might as well have been dragged out of the sewers. When David heard this vulgar, he felt sorry for the parrot and was determined to stop this behavior.

For weeks David endeavored to cease the parrot's foul language, but it was to no avail. Every time he spoke, the parrot would simply screech an insult.

One day, the parrot's profane language became too much for David. Enraged, he snatched the parrot right off of his perch and ran into the kitchen. He opened the door to the freezer and with all his might, shoved the struggling parrot inside.

For several moments a multitude of squawks, screeches, crashes and scratches could be heard from outside the freezer. And just as abruptly as the noise had begun, it had been terminated.

Fearful that he might have harmed the parrot, he carefully opened the freezer and released his pet. The parrot calmly stepped out of the freezer and perched himself upon David's shoulder.

"I'm exceeding sorry for my horrendous behavior," the parrot cooed "I promise I'll never speak in such a profane manner ever again".

David was appalled. He'd never expected the parrot to do this. He looked at the bird quizzically and was just about to ask what had happened when the parrot interrupted him:

1] What is your pen name?
DarkSuicune8/Dark_Suicune8/etc. Ookami Akuma, Taiga

2] How did you get the name?
- DarkSuicune8 comes from my ‘yin’ side, which is represented by my Suicune character Sora. Sora, as you may already know is a dark Suicune. The number 8 is my lucky number. lol
- Ookami Akuma is my ailas. Yes, the translation is rather stupid, but it just sounds cool. Ookami is the Japanese word meaning wolf, an animal that I resemble in personality and is also my totem/spirit guede. Akuma means deman in Japanese. Yes, I can be a bit wicked at times.
- Taiga is my fursona’s name. The work taiga in English describes a coniforous forest at the edge of the tundra, which is where I live in the stories I write. I think taiga also means river in Japanese. Like a river I can be quiet and calm, shyly slipping through the shadows of the forest being almost unnoticed; like a small stream. At other times I can be loud and malicious, showing no mercy to thosw who are in my path, like a large river. Now I’m not completely positive on the Japanese translation. Umm. . . I honestly don’t know.

Both

6] The color you use most often is?
Black, blue, purple, and gray.

7] What area of the pictures do you put most effort into?
Overall, I put as much effort into every little section of my artwork as I can. But when it comes right down to it, the eyes of my subject is where I try to put as much life into it as possible. After all, the eyes are the portals to the soul!

8] How long does it take you do draw a picture?
To be honest, I’ve never really paid attention to how long it takes me to finish a picture. But it most definately depends on how complex it is.

9] Do you keep your rough drafts?
Yeah, sometimes. They might wind up in the hands of my friends/fans though.

10] What kind of font do you use most often?
Just the normal Times New Roman.
11] What's the dpi when you scan?
Merf. . .?

12] Do you do anything else when you're drawing pictures?
I listen to music sometimes.

13] How many pictures do you draw in a month?
It depends on what is going on in my life at the time.

14] What kind of paper do you draw your pictures on?
Although I knowI shouldn’t because the paper buckles and bends easily I usually draw pictures on printer paper. I also use watercolor paper, Bristol and sketchbook paper. As of right now, Strathmore is my favorite brand.

15] What kind of paper do you use for sketches and drafts?
Regular printer paper, lined paper or sketchbook paper.

16] How long does it take to ink something?
Between 10 and 1.5 hours. Again, it varies with the complexity of the drawing.

17] Do you do doujinshi or original manga?
Neither. Umm, what is doujinshi?

18] Do you like doujinshi? Is it fun making it?

Nope. It looks fun though. . .

Oh, there are so many! There’s no way I can type them all up! I believe that everyone’s artwork is beautiful as long as they put emotion or effert into it.

Well anyway, I hope y'all had a wonderful Christmas/Hanakah/holiday and will have a happy New Year. I would also like to thank everyone who has watched me and visited my gallery for the wonderful comments. (I apologize if all of this sounds cheesy, I'm just not sure how to say it any other way.)

Well, I received quite a few art supplies for Christmas. This includes a set of Reeves acrylic paints, a table easel, some paint brushes and painting knives, a watercolor set complete with instruction books, two pallets and a 36-piece set of Lyra colored pencils. EDIT December 31, '04: Well, I've been working on my WIPs and my friends' late Christmas drawings for he past few days. My most rrecent drawings MAY be the only ones for a while.
Oh yes, please do not hesitate to critisize my artwork, especially the WIPs, I really appreciate critiques and am really interested in what areas I can improve in.

Colder Than Ice

I look into its intense crimson eyes,
Inside a frigid inferno lies,

Bright, blazing, and bold,
Yet cruel, calm and cold,

Freezing talons run down my back,
It is as though the creature will attack,

The thing's eyes are locked on me in a deathly gaze,
This is my last day of days!

I squeeze my eyes shut in fear,
A warm creek flowing down my cheek, a tear,

The North wind cries a lonely howl,
How I wish it to be a native fowl,

The chorus grows stronger,
I wish to be here in this wretched place no longer!

Suddenly I see the beast spring
Its fangs bared and its malicious snarl frightening,

A thousand burning daggers pierce my skin,
They sink in and out again and again,

Tearing at my flesh and ripping at my heart,
I can even feel my soul coming apart,

My heart is galloping in a wild frenzy through my rib cage,
This is worse than singing alone on a stage,
(Yeah, I know this doesn't quite fit...)

All of a sudden, the pain stops,
It is as serene as the proud, majestic mountain tops,

I open my eyes expecting to see a grass-filled field dotted with clover,
Instead, I see the snowy realm where I had fallen,
My life is not over!

The breeze whispers gently to me, its voice as light and sweet as cream,
"All is well. Twas only a dream,"

On a distant hill a misty figure looms,
As delicate and elegant as when a frail lily blooms,
It catches my gaze!

My school is really strange. It just gave us ANOTHER week-long break for no apparent reason. At times I cannot stand vacations--the week after you return to school, your brain seems to be in a permanent "sleep". Well, I may be able to upload tomorrow, if I don't go to my dad's place that is.
