I have found this fantastic photographer through the same forum that I found *DocoPhoto in and it is the same case here. I didn't showcase her in the journal with the rest of the deviants because I wanted to feature so many of her photographs. She truly is a fantastic photographer, and takes the most amazing self-portraits. It truly is quite a skill of hers. She also takes fantastic wedding and engagement photographs. New CSS!

So as most of you have probably noticed, I have redone my Journal CSS. I had been really wanting to do it, but I didn't really want to make a different theme because I didn't want to change my avatar, since it matches. The thing about changing avatar's is that people start to look for your avatar. They recognize it as being you, so I wanted to keep it. So here is the new CSS.

Thanks to the two stock artists that deviated the designs for the two of the features. *darchiel deviated this stock image that I used for the sides of these boxes and to ~big-d-stock. He deviatedthis stock image. I used that one for the header. Tell me what you guys think of the new CSS!

So! A while ago I did a forum for people who took portrait photos and I featured them here. This deviant entered but I did not feature him because I wanted to feature so many more photographs by him. This got delayed by my Six Word Story Contest and *mode-de-vie's Lit Interpretation Contest, but FINALLY, it is here.

So yeah...motivation. I seem to be unmotivated to do stuff aymore. My new lens has most obviously sparked a photo SPREE if you have not noticed. I like it and I do notice that my photography is getting better, but I fear never being able to make it. I see so many deviants that are like 19 years old and amazing (some younger)and it just makes me wonder if I'm doing the right thing. I wonder if I have enough natural ability. I'll keep trying for now.

I also want to do more art stuff. I want to get back into photomanipulation. I want to write more. I want to continue to try to draw. So hopefully you will see more varied art here.

I guess I got away from motivation. But I was trying to say about how I don't feel motivated to do those other types of art. I think I'll just have to do them because I realized with writing essays, that I really like it. I just have to stop doing other things I like or putting it off to do something else. So we'll see what becomes of it. Help keep me in check guys!

I am SO Excited! Much News! All related. A little bad, but the good way outshines the bad so lets put the bad first.

I got a package yesterday with an Infrared Filter in it, and I ordered the wrong size. It is too big too fit onto my camera...

Need to send it back. Second piece of bad news. I took about 340 pictures on ISO 500 when I could have taken them at ISO 100, so that is a lot of unnecessary grain. Blah!

Now for the GREAT news!

I got a package yesterday, actually two. I bought a Lensbabies 3G, and the Creative Aperture Disks. I love them. The other package I got was a free Lensbabies Macro/Wide Angle Lens that attaches to the 3G. This morning I actually realized that it is who lenses in one. It is a Macro and a Wide Angle... Silly me. I thought it was just supposed to do both things just the way it is, but it comes apart and turns into a macro lens. SO COOL!

I have taken as I said about 340 pictures with my new lens. I have deviated a bunch. You can either look in my gallery for them or look at the feature underneath.

Also I have created a club for the Lensbabies Users of deviantArt. Luckily ~lensbabies was not taken so I took it (for the club of course!) So keep your eyes out for that. It will hopefully be growing quite soon!-Steve

Contest Update!

Judges

If you read nothing else about the contest READ THIS: Your illustration for the competition can be ANY type of art. It does not have to be a drawing or a photograph. Many artist seem to be under this impression so far.

There is some news about the contest that *mode-de-vie and I are running together. If you want you can get a bigger rundown of all the things that are going on with the contest at the updated news article that *mode-de-vie wrote.. I will just put an abbreviated version here.

I am really quite excited about the turnout there has been for the contest. It is really going quite well, much better than I had intended, considering it is my first contest. We had no 1 month subscription for second place because I didn't think deviantArt offered them anymore. You cannot buy them for yourself but you can buy them for others! I didn't realize this until the other day so we have now added that gift to the second place winner and we are also adding a third place that will receive a 1 month feature in both of our journals.

Being our first contest we forgot some rules and had to add them in later. We had to add these items:

One submission per deviant.

The image may be an image you have already created.

The story must be original and made for this contest.

No words in the illustration unless it is the story.

Even though I said it already here is the updated prize list:

So here is my journal entry for now. I was helping *mode-de-vie with her journal and it put me in the mood to make my own. She wanted to learn how to use the scrolling boxes in her journal so I figured it out and showed her how to. I like teaching her how to use CSS and other technical stuff; I don't now why. I guess that is the natural teacher side in my coming out. So here is my new journal. There are a few kinks left in it like the bad link font color and I want to get the 100 Themes Challenge section centered. I will get to it soon. If you see anything that is difficult or you don't like or something feel free to comment on it. I feel like the journal is another piece of art.

GREAT NEWS! This really excited me! and I wish everyone knew this. When I came home from college I found a MacbookAir sitting on my bed. I flipped out! But when I read the specs on it I thought, I cannot use this, and my parents partially anticipated this. So we took it back to teh store and bought a MacbookPro. The MacbookAir is so amazingly cool, but because it is cool they needed to sacrifice some some of the performance which I could not do. So I got the MacbookPro but that's the even the best of the news.
Here is the cool part. I was very upset that I would have to buy new software for my Mac namely my Adobe CS3 Web Premium. I did buy it for cheap through my school, but that was cheap compared to the regular cost, not cheap in general. So I was going to buy Parallels so I could run my PC software inside my Mac, but then I heard of this amazing thing Adobe does. You can switch your liscence over from PC to Mac with only the cost of shipping and handling to send your new software to your house (or wherever)! ISN'T THAT ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! About the ContestErnest Hemingway was bet by his friends that he could not write a six word story. This is what he came up with. He was paid by his friends $10, we are offering SO MUCH MORE!

We judges are challenging you all to come up with a six word story as well, but since you wil be getting a lot more than Hemingway did, we also ask that you illustrate the story as well some how.

Now, these illustrations can be anything. They can be photographs, vectors, paintings, sculptures, you name it. There cannot be any extra words of any sort in the illustration itself unless they are the words of the story. There must only be on illustration.

This is the perfect chance for you guys to show off your skills across different mediums.

How to DeviateThe contest entries should be submitted under literature. You should click the "Add Text" button to put the six word story in. For the illustration, once you have added the story a preview option shows up. That is how you should put in the illustration, not in a separate deviation because this is supposed to be one complete work of art. Make sure you note at least one of the judges, *mode-de-vie and *Death-By-Romance, a link to the deviation. Please do not leave a comment with a link on our page or in the News article.

!Caution! Many famous writers and other celebrities have tried to write these stories but most of the time they forget that it is supposed to be... well... a story. Not everything has to be explicitly said in the story, and it might be interpreted in many different ways. I interpret Hemingway's as a woman had a still born child therefore they sold the shoes. It could be taken many different ways, but that is a full story, not just a simple statement.

Yay for ~xxxrockxxonxxx My random deviant! She is a really neat person. I am so very glad that I received her as my partner. From what I've seen she seems to be very passionate, has a fun personality. She is young, but her writing is great. I am very interested to watch her grow into a better writer. I really do urge you to read what I've put up here in thumbnails. They are short ones and will not take too much of your time to read, and if you like them please do not hesitate to go through her gallery and read more! I have to continue to read her stuff because she's hooked me. I love her gallery. But anyway! So! I have 7,000+ Page views!!!!!!! whooo!! I have come a long way since deviant birth in the wee hours of teh morning on December 12. I have picked 7,000 as a landmark because I haven't really done many other numbers, I might have done 1,000, but I also really like the number 7, so I decided it was a good time to do a journal. Since my gallery is filled with photography, I figured I would feature my main photographic inspiration. *incredi!!!!

I absolutely admire *incredi's work. I this she has the best user name in all of deviantArt as well because her art is simply INCREDIBLE! I honestly talk about *incredi in my life outside of deviantArt with other deviants that I know and even with people that are not members of our community. I would estimate that she comes up in a conversation somehow at least once a month, or that I think of one of her photos for some reason.

I really hope that I have done at least a small justice to displaying the PHENOMENAL artistry that is hung in *incredi's gallery. I joke now, but truly believe that some of the art in my future house will be photographed by the incredible *incredi. I would be quite honored if I would get to meet her one day. I would feel almost unworthy if I were to be able to actually take pictures with her one day. I really hope you all get a chance to go see her gallery. The other day, on Leap Day actually (February 29). I went to a rave for the first time. It was AMAZING. Didn't do any drugs or anything, but had a TON of fun. Took pictures for a while. And then just danced for the rest of the night. We did other crazy things that night. Well one specific crazy thing- walking across the subway tracks to get to the other side. Anyway! Umm... I have a new series called PLUR. It is like the ravers' motto it means Peace Love Unity Respect. I like that motto. All of the It is a six photo series. I am quite happy with it. I think it is my favorite series yet. I really hope you guys like it!

I will most likely buy one for my friend as well

. She deserves it. She has to deal with me on a daily basis. She'll end up marrying me one day. Don't think she knows what's she's getting into. lol

I plan on buying lots of clothes with the money from my new job, as well as my first Polaroid camera. I might also try to buy a used digital to convert it into an infrared camera. I've got ideas.... ::evil smile:: So my new job is as a telemarketer getting monetary gifts for my college. It's kinda cool cause 100% of the money goes to Financial Aid and other things that benefit students. So I'm helping out my peers, working on my public speaking skills, working in sales, AND GETTING MONEY FOR ART! I'm really excited for everything I'll be able to do with this money. It's not on commission either so I'm pretty safe. It seems to be hard to be fired as well. Excited!

I hope you guys like the two charcoals that I've done lately. I am trying to get more into that. I am also trying to take better pictures. (Isn't everyone). But I'm trying to take things more seriously. Maybe I'll buy a new lens with my money as well. But overall I'm trying to save money to go to Florence this time next year. I'll be taking a Photography class there if I actually get there which would be great. I'm fully anticipating to also have to pay for half of my tuition so... Money is helpful, though I plan on having to take out loans, I would still need money for plane tickets, and I'd need money for housing deposits and stuff like that so. I need money... Let's see what happens!

As I am sure most of you have realized. Today is September 11, 2007. Six years after the attack. I was told that it was on a Tuesday. And today is Tuesday.

I was sitting in Mrs. Wright's 7th grade Social studies class when it happened. In the second to last row in the back, in the second last column from the right.
I really had no clue what was going on. The teachers were not allowed to turn on the TV. Some students seemed to know. But I didn't really choose to believe the whispers. I think I heard "bomb" being whispered. I believe I heard "plane" being whispered. But I did not believe until I got home. In the empty house I turned on the TV. I don't remember doing homework that night. I don't remember eating that night. There is just a void in the day from when I got home and turned on the tv until when i was crying that night in bed.

Today six years later, I am in New York City. I'm just 28 blocks from where it happened. Just 1.53 miles from where it happened. Before i was 99.00 miles away. But now I feel it. I feel the crying. I feel everything that happened. I am a New Yorker and I feel it just like every other New Yorker. I may feel it less than others, but I feel it.

I'd like the thank the two people for their testimonies on the subject. One was the security guard here at my dorm, and the other was a receptionist at the Career Center.

I just came back from the site (this journal is lasting over almost an entire day). We took the subway to Brooklyn to look at the lights. It's sadly a cloudy night.
I cried.

I have a deviation to go with today. I'll post a link later but look for it. I'm going to proofread the dev later too cause I know it's choppy.

So, I haven't been up too much here in NYC. I've been hanging around a lot. Working on my website a lot. I walked to Time Square the other day. That was fun. It was a little bit of a hike though. who cares. It was fun. I also randomly ran into Counting Crows in the Square. It was a little weird, but whatever. I didn't even recognize them. I've been told that Uma Thermon has been spotted in the Square, and Adam Sandler I think. Maybe I'll see more famous people in my 4 (or more) years here. On Thursday, I will be going to CALIFORNIA! (Thank goodness!) Camp has been really hard on me. I've been working at the YMCA for summer camp for the past 9 weeks. I have had 5 days of summer so far not including the weekends. I will only have 2 more weekdays of summer which will be Thursday and Friday. I normally include Saturday and Sunday in the count because I will be in California, so I'll have 9 total days of summer...

. What a great way to spend your summer after senior year in high school. I guess I'm part of the real world now.

In California, (I'M SO VERY EXCITED) I'll be meeting up with a few friends that I traveled Europe with last summer in the air port, and hopefully, they'll have something for us to do since we'll have just arrived. But the highlight and reason for the trip will be Friday night...suspense...build-up! This is not suspenseful for anyone but me, but I don't care!

Friday night, I'll be going to see the opera Paradise Lost: Shadows and Wings. I am so very excited! The composer of the music is Eric Whitacre, who is the reason I'm going to see it. I absolutely love his music. It is quite phenomenal. But it will be ridiculous. The music is a fusion between opera, classical, show tune, techno, trance, and ambient. There costumes are insanely modern. There will be martial arts, project anime screens. It will be fantastic. And the theatre, in Pasadena, will be very intimate, only seating 99 people, I believe. This will be great! I can't wait.

I'll most likely be taking plenty of pictures while I'm in California so you all can expect some when I come back!

The book Joplin's Ghost really appealed to me because I love music and I play the piano (Scott Joplin's instrument). So I picked it up to see if it really was about Scott Joplin somehow and it was but it was a regular fiction book with his ghost in it. So I just had to get it. Then I saw Bel Canto and I wanted to get it just because it had a music note on the cover. And then I told Sara (mode-de-vie) not to let me buy it because I already had 8 books and I could not buy a book just because there was a music note on the cover (this shows just how much of a music geek I am and I love it!). And so Later that evening we found ourselves back in the same section, and I saw the book again. And I said to Sara, "I really want to buy this book," and as I did a lady that worked there walked by and started to tell me about how wonderful the book was, and then I just had to buy it...! So there we go. That's my funny story. I guess you kinda had to be there but whatever!

I am so very very excited about having this. It's really quite neat all the stuff I got and I got it for a discount through my school bookstore, quite a hefty discount might I add. I'm going to post my first Illustrator vector in a few minutes. It's of a tattoo I drew a long time ago. I already deved it but i'll move the scanned image to the scraps and dev the vector image. For all of my friends though. I will be buying my camera soon. Even though the bar on my main page says that i only have 100 some dollars. I actually have 400 some dollars. Hey everyone. Band camp got rained out today. We left 2 hours earlier than ususal. So I have had time to relax. that why i've had time to devaite a new ID and new journal entry and as you can see, and hopefully like, an upgrade to using graphics in my journal. I hope you like them. Tell me what you think.

So the reasoning behind the new ID is because I've gotten too lazy to keep making those map things for what city i'm deviating from. Unless there is an uproar from you guys saying you want them back I'll be stopping that.

I have the person for September's Artist of the Month!!! It took me a little while to find him. You'll have to wait til Friday to see who it is. I'm sure the suspense is killing you. lol.

Ah this is crazyness. Band camp has started up this week and I'm the Drum Major. Life right now is nonsensically craziness-filled. I'm going to break down real soon. I only have two more days left in this week but I don't know how I will hold out. It's rough. I'm just trying to live by the fact that everyday is a new day, and it's not fair if I give my band anything less than 100%. I'm trying.

I just remembered I need a new artist of the month since August is almost over. It'll be fun finding the time to find this person and also make a new journal for him. I've barely found time to do this journal. I have some ideas for people but I'm not sure yet. Watch out Mr./Ms. September... I'll find you soon.

Hello Everyone!!! I'm back from Europe. As you could imagine there will be a lot of pictures uploaded from Europe. While over there. I too 1,046 pictures. I obviously won't show you all of them. But I will show you many of the good ones and most of the great ones. Europe was absolutely georgous. I will upload the pictures by city. They will go in chronological order (almost). For example: My first stop in Europe was Rothenburg, Germany. I will upload all of the Rothenburg pictures and pictures from the ride there. Whatever it's not that important. It's what the pictures look like that are important. I really hope you guys like all of my pictures from Europe. I'm anxious to hear all of what you guys have to say. I think i told you guys that I'm going to Europe. Thats coming up very soon... two weeks. I leave my house next Friday to meet up with teh choir at Gettysburg University (Pennsylvania). And on July the 4th we have two Bon Voyage concerts and then the fifth we go to NYC to leave and land in Rothenberg, Germany on my birthday, July 6th.

A late Christmas gift came on 29th. I got a call from the Sound of America Honor Band and Chorus. I audition and have been accepted to be a part of their 2006 Honor Chorus. It is a national choir that will be touring several countries in Europe for 25 days in July '06. This is very exciting for me. I also play five instruments so such a musical honor means a lot to me. But now i have to pay for it. I plan on doing much fundraising. I really don't expect to hear from anyone but If anyone would like to donate some money to me for the trip it would be GREATLY appreciated. The Sound of America, Inc. is registered with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the United States Internal Revenue Service as a non-profit, tax exempt corporation. I have to pay some $4,000.
