I called SallieMae and I do qualify for thei IBR program. This, for the next 12 months, eliminates my worry on having to pay a whopping $370 a month for my loans. However, it doesn't cover my private student loan which accounts for about a third of my loan repayment each month. It's going to cost me about $135 a month to pay it. I have two rabbits and now a new kitty cat to take care of. I am also, still, trying to save up the $230 to have Felicity, my Dutch rabbit, spayed. Needless to say my checking account has just dipped down to $77 and Valley National Bank is going to charge me about $10 a day for every day my checking stays under $99.

I've just BARELY scraped together enough money I was saving for other things to deposit into my account tomorrow. However, this doesn't solve my money issue. I have other bills to pay, my credit card which I'm working on paying down, my cell phone bill, and then it costs me about $60 - $70 a month just to feed my rabbits. At least for the month of september I don't have to worry about my credit card, I used every last penny of my reward cash back I had been saving just to pay toward my bill.

Kohls doesn't pay me nearly enough and my hours are sporadic. I was lucky enough to get more hours than normal up through next week, however, I don't know what the following weeks will bring. Sometimes they give me as little as 10 hours for the week. And that will barely cover my health insurance plan plus taxes, thus leaving me with nothing to pay bills off with.

So I'm asking you guys, if anyone can spare some money please come and buy something from me, be it a drawn commission or a piece of my jewelry. All links can be found at the top of this journal. Threaded Chains is my jewelry shop with ~GoldenFox123187.

Now, not only am I trying to wiggle my way up from the bottom of the pit I've dug myself into, but I'm also trying to help . You can read about her financial woes in her journal. But basically, I'll be making wish bracelets, custom order or from a pre-made bunch, and all my profits from those minus shipping, and seller fees from Etsy.com, will go directly to her.

I don't think many, if anyone (besides Michelle), really reads these journals but for just a few moments please help out two of your fellow deviants. Or if you have no desire to buy from either me or Serpenaya then go to 's page and she is also doing commissions to help Serpenaya.

If you don't want to buy something from me but, on the rare chance you might want to just donate money to me you can donate to me using the paypal gift option or mail me a check, money order, or cash. I will make a thank you list and add anyone's name to it that buys from me and mentions to me they're doing so to help me out.

And to my current commissioner I apologize for your wait. Your artwork is coming. But as you can see, my life has clearly derailed itself.

Thank you to anyone who has read this. I appreciate it greatly. Please contact me if you wish to donate and I'll give you my information whether it be my address or paypal e-mail.

~Ja ne

Remmie

~~~~~~~~~~
Admin of:  ~AnimeLovers - Note me if you wish to be a mod! ^_^
  <span...
I technically promised ~GoldenFox123187 I'd write it yesterday. >> My bad...
Firstly let me mention that my featured Artists journal has been updated. All new artists have been added. So get commenting on that journal so I can feature you! Even if I don't watch you or you don't watch me it doesn't matter. You comment there I'll feature you. Just that simple. ^^
Also please commission me! I know I beg in like every journal but I really do need the money. Bills are piling up and it's gotten to the point where I can't even afford to go see a movie. >> Besides the concert I went to that's like the only thing I was able to afford for this whole year basically. D: And I technically shouldn't have even gone to that cause it wasn't cheap >>
Well let me go back to last weekend. Sunday I was out petfood shopping. And I ended up coming home with a cat. >>; For anyone that has ever been into a Petsmart you'd know they have a shelter that keeps some of their cats in the store in hopes they'll be adopted faster. Well I adopted this poor cat. She's 4 years old and her name is Lily. They spelled it Lilly but I like Lily because I consider her to be named after Lily Munster from the Munsters TV show. xD
Anyway she's all white with one blue eye and one yellow eye. She's 20 pounds, or was when we got her. I don't know what they did but she got fat while she was with them since April of this year. She came from a backyard breeder who either gave her up or she was confiscated. I don't know. She's like a limp noodle I swear. I can flip her over and man handle here and she has not once clawed, hissed at, or bitten us. Not only is she over weight but she came down with an eye infection and from being so fat developed a yeast infection on her privates. When we took her to our Vet on Monday he basically told us the eye drops the vet the shelter had taken her too had prescribed were bad for cats with light colored eyes. They had a steroid in it and it was basically like inducing migraines when it was put in her eye. And the powder for her supposed yeast infection was useless. She is still on an antibiotic they gave us for her, and whatever was going on down there (cause she also wasn't using her litter box for the first two days we had her) seemed to have been cleared up. She's still taking the new eye cream our vet gave us for her and the antibiotic but she's really tolerant of it all.
It's been a week but by the 3rd day, once our competent vet gave us proper meds for her, she was acting more cat-like. And instead of crawling along the floor like she had been doing she's taken to sleeping on my bed. She's my cat, so all her things are in my room. But it's time we started introducing her to the other pets we have. She's already very affectionate towards us so we're hoping all goes well once we introduce her to our dogs and another cat. She doesn't seem to care about my bunnies either so I'm pretty confident things will go smoothly even if it does take awhile.
Anyway! I went and saw Marilyn Manson on Friday night. He was headlining the Rockstar Mayhem Festival. Oh. My. God. He is so wonderful. If you haven't seen already take a look at my DA ID on my front page. It's a picture I got of him while I was there.
He's gained some weight but he still looks really good. I'll love him regardless. I've been rambling about him to ~legolasofthewood for several days now. I'm hoping the next time I get to see him I'll be up front and able to touch him...or get a piece of his clothing.
He didn't just play new songs either. He played Little Horn and Tourniquet. And that's like stuff from the 90s. He played nothing from his Eat Me Drink Me album which is fine because I found an interview of him which you guys can see here: [link] It pretty much explains why he didn't sing any of the songs from that album.
Also earlier in the day at the festival I saw All That Remains. And they are so cool. They had a signing and I got them all to autograph a poster they were giving out for the occasion AND they all signed my ticket. I'll be getting the ticket laminated. Seriously though they were so awesome to meet. It's too bad I couldn't get Manson's autograph. D: Trivium was also there, and also was doing a signing but t...
All the attention is very welcome. And I thank each and every person. ^_^
Nextly...some small begging. I'm still taking commissions, and I still need them more than ever. I've had some nibbles so please check out my commissions journal for more information. Or note me. ^^ Remember, I'm willing to do anything! I don't really have any limits. I'll let you know if you ask for something I'm uncomfortable with doing.
And now onto more pressing matters. I'm hoping to still be going to see Marilyn Manson in concert next week on Friday. I've been looking forward to seeing him all summer. I'll be devastated if ~legolasofthewood can't take us. T_T Not to mention I also have two bunnies that are getting spayed on Tuesday...God what an expensive week.
Oh yeah also, please check out my features journal and the features module over thar ----->
I watch some truly awesome deviants who deserve attention. ^^
Read below for what I need help on!
And in my biggest news...I now am the lead Admin for a club here on DA. I stumbled upon  while reading through someone's journal. The founder was looking to pass along the duties to someone else. And she gave them to me. Right now it's only myself and two of the former admins working on things. And there's a lot to be done.
I need more help! I need more mods to help me get things done. I checked in tonight and so far the two mods I have haven't signed in to work on anything...
I'd love it if some of you guys would like to become mods to help me so I'd know I'd have some reliable help. (Not that I don't trust these two mods it's just there's a lot to get done and I need to know for SURE that someone will log in besides me >_< ).
So if any of you are interested, or know reliable people who are active on DA that would be interested, please note me (or have them note me) on this account. It's not as out of control as it was before, I've done as much updating as I can to make things spiffy looking. But the club does also need a subscription. As for right now it's cluttered with ads and I can't organize the gallery. I also can't make journals or the profile page look nicer for our members and anyone visiting.
So yeah. Help is appreciated!
And...I think that's all for now. I'm off to work on some art and relax before bed. I work 9 - 4 tomorrow D: (yey meager paychecks...>.o)
~Ja ne
Remmie
~~~~~~~~~~

Admin of: ~AnimeLovers - Note me if you wish to be a mod! ^_^

    <...

I only have 149 deviations, 9 messages, and like 70 notes to go through and I'll be DONE! Whoo!

Sorry it's taken so long guys. I also spammed a lot of your really old journal posts with comments. >>; I was behind and didn't want to miss what you guys were doing while I was away. D:

Well anyway I've posted my features journal with updates. For those of you reading this off my journal page please check out the featured people to the right there (and down two modules xD ) ----->

And...your art is coming. I'm just really tired. Work is wearing me down. But I am trying to get things done. Though I'll probably go off and finish some personal projects before I crash tonight. I just need to unwind a bit ><

Also I thought I'd do some shameless begging and request you check out my commissions journal again. As of this posting I'm going to work on fixing that up, changing things around and getting stuff updated. I've been away for so long but my desperation for money never seems to end. (And no one ever seems to commission me D: ) Anyway I'm really in a fix. Even with my job I have a lot of things I need to pay for. I have two rabbits that costs me around $100 a month. And I just got an appointment to have them spayed in 3 weeks. So that's like $400 right there for the both of them, probably a little more. >_< I get some crappy hours at work and the stress when I am there is not good for me.

So yes, please, if you have some money to spare PLEASE consider commissioning me. I try my best to be fair with my prices. And I am ALWAYS willing to ship you the original works so long as you are willing to pay postage.

/end begging

Now that I'm catching up with my back log of things to do it feels nice. I can't wait to be able to freely work on whatever again. I have lots of things I want to finish and even more I want to start. I would, ideally, like to try and start my 100 themes project this year. I haven't forgotten about it. I plan on doing it. I also would like to crack open Dreamweaver again and fiddle with some CSS code and make some shiny journals. But we'll see how that goes. I don't think it's terribly hard just time consuming.

Oh yes, and I was thinking if perhaps I should try doing one of those journal things where you can interview my characters. I know I haven't spoken much about them because...well I hardly ever draw them <_< damn it... But if I gave a list would any of you consider possibly noting me or even commenting to a journal with some questions you have for them? (Believe it or not I do have some sketches for part of my waist up character reference project I could scan for reference if you wanted to see them.)

Oh, and in case anyone ignored my last update on my Art Trades/Requests/Things to Do journal I listed something about doing a comic with my characters and 's characters. I'd be interested in including some characters from you guys (as long as they're OC's). There's some rules to it though. Just to tease you guys a bit it's supposed to be an ongoing web comic. I thought it would be a great way to get some interest out there for my characters and their story as well as Talia's. And I'd like to have some guest appearances from other people's characters as well. I'll post more on that once I'm able to work on that project more. Now that I have Manga studio I'm anxious to do some work in there and get some screen toning practice.

Well that's all for this update. ^^

~Ja ne

Remmie

But I have been trying to get through my inbox. I have a lot of stuff to do. So please, be PATIENT while I sort through my deviations.

If you didn't read my previous journal I am now going to feature artists on my front page as well as on my journal page and in a journal update itself. Please see this journal for more details.

I also have a huge art workload on my plate. I want you guys to bear with me as I work through it all. I have art trades to finish, birthday pictures to complete (and some to start). I don't need anyone negativity hovering around me so if you think I can't do it keep it to yourselves D:

I'm not angry I just want to be clear with you guys that things with my college haven't been going so hot for me, my job is quite miserable, and money is very tight. On top of all this family issues abound. That being said I realize I have a lot of things to do art wise. Please realize that not every artist can color as fast as YOU might be able to. Or draw as fast or whichever. I take a lot of pride in my art and when I work on a piece I want it to be believeable and to look good whether it's just a sketch, an art trade, a birthday picture, had color, etc. Backgrounds also take me longer to complete.

To and I have not forgotten about either of you. You will get your art trades. I'm sorry it's taken this long to get things done. Rest assured you'll get your arts. I won't leave you hanging. ^^

My current project is getting ~GoldenFox123187's birthday picture from December finished. I've gotten quite a lot accomplished to be honest. And I have many personal projects I want to complete. I have been trying to work on art and clearing out my DA inbox every day after I come home from work and I literally spend all day on my days off from work doing art related things. Don't think I'm slacking!

Anyway that being said I have so much happening. I have two rabbits that I believe have just recently gone into heat. Needless to say I MUST get them fixed sometime next week once my parents and brother have come home from sleepaway boyscout camp. Can't very well get to the vet this week if I a) can't drive and b) don't have a car even if I could xD

I won't ramble on any more. I'll try and get a Livejournal update posted and I'll link to it should anyone wish to read it. If you want to friend me on LJ just let me know. ^^

One last thing. I want to give a HUGE apology to everyone who has posted art and I have not looked at/commented it yet. I won't say who but a close friend of mine made it very clear she won't be looking at anything of mine until I've started looking at her stuff. If I've been shoving any of my art in your faces and not looking at your art in return or even just asked you if you've drawn anything lately I am deeply sorry and I didn't mean to come across as being selfish or rude. I don't hide from DA on purpose. But please know that I will be trying to check out some galleries now that I'll be featuring you guys. So expect come comments and possibly some favorites coming your way from me. Again, I'm really sorry and I did not mean to come across as not caring. I love my artist friends and I love seeing your work. But if you want me to see things (and you know I haven't been checking on here) you should tell me you have art and e-mail me, IM me, or note me links to it so I can see it. Don't just wait for me to come to you all the time. I love having people approach me to show me their work. ^^

That said I will be posting up my IM addresses tonight. Just be sure if you IM me you let me know who you are. xD I'm going to try to be on those every night. I'm always on AIM though. So it's a safe bet to find me on there if I'm not on MSN or Yahoo.

Well hopefully I'll have Michelle's b-day pic posted by the end of the weekend or sooner and some of my other projects a step closer to completion.

~Ja ne

Remmie

P.S.: Please shout in my shoutbox! It's lonely in there! D:

So I was pretty much ambushed last weekend when my parents told me I had to stand in line this Saturday (the 11th) to get a bottle of Crytal Head Skull Vodka signed by Dan Aykroyd. For those that don't know he played one of the lead roles in the Ghostbusters films back in the 80s.

At first I wasn't really excited at all. I loved the movies but I was just like "eh..don't wanna go..." But Friday night it was final, I had to literally rush out of work Saturday at the end of my shift to make sure I was in line before 1, when they would close off the line. Well let me tell you...it decided to rain..D: And I was on that line for over 2 and a half HOURS. Most of it was spent in the rain. So you bet your sweet ass I bought my own skull bottle too. xD lol

My grandfather picked me up from work and we arrived at the liquor store and they directed us to the additional parking. They had shuttle buses! lol So once we're on the line I started talking to the people in front of us and we spent most of the time talking and just laughing and passing the time. It wasn't really unpleasant despite the rain and the fact my pants absorbed crazy amounts of water. And I was wearing my sneakers with the mesh in the toes xD My socks were socked by the time I got home.

My grandfather was starting to shake after about 15 minutes so he said he was heading home and for me to call him when I got to the stairs, cause when we got on that line it wasn't even close to the stairs, and there was an additional line inside. But it was only another half hour MAYBE and the line was really moving despite what you might think. So when I called my grandfather I knew he'd basically just gotten back home and now had to come back. But he went inside the front way upon coming back and let us know how the line worked once it reached inside.

And I mean once we did finally get inside it wasn't miserable and cold anymore. And that line really moved. Needless to say the closer we got to Dan the more excited and jittery I was becoming. I'm such a dork XD

So I fiddled with my cell phone and got the flash going and had my credit card in my wallet, my parents money handed off to my grandfather and we were set. And it turns out they had some of Dan's wine at the signing table too. So naturally I had to snag a bottle of wine because I didn't stand on line for so long for just a $50 bottle of vodka. xD; I got the Cabernet. Correct my spelling if it's wrong. I totally don't know the difference but who cares it was a signed bottle and I was too ecstatic to care.

Anyway they basically had the wine bottles pre-signed. Only the Vodka bottles would be personalized if we asked for it. SO they had the vodka bottles out of their boxes and would basically shove them under Dan's face to sign and then we were allowed to have pictures signed too, we were allowed two pieces of memorabilia per person. My mom had printed out two pics off the internet on photo paper. One I had autographed for my dad, which was of the team of them from the movie. Like one of those screen caps or something. And then I had another headshot screenshot of Dan personalized to myself. And they were shoving the stuff under his face so fast I didn't think he'd stop to even look at me. but he stopped after signing my picture and reached over, shook my hand, and smiled. And if he said something I totally don't even know because all brain function had totally stopped by that point. xD It was so awesome of him to stop because he was so busy and they were trying to keep the line moving. So I was standing there all excited and jittery and I swear I said thank you like a million times. But it was the most awesome experience.

I'm not really one to get into the whole celebrity thing, and I know I say it's silly to get really into it. And I couldn't tell you much about Dan beside the fact he was in Ghostbusters and now has his own refinery (is that way it is?) and makes this Crystal head skull vodka and several different wines. But he was so cool to meet. And just as I was moving away I got a quick photo of him on my blackberry. And I was lucky enough that it wasn't blurry either! And no one else was in the shot. Just Dan. I'm so freaking happy. I'm totally glad I went. And I can tell you that line was NOTHING compared to the MCR (My Chemical Romance) line I stood in with ~legolasofthewood last year. But like I was saying, I'm not into the whole celebrity thing, like I don't really follow too much into things. Or at least I didn't until I met her, lol. So I may not be the most knowledgeable Ghostbusters fan (or even a Marilyn Manson fan) but the fact I'm totally into their work is enough for me. And meeting someone like that is one of those rare opportunities. But I can say now I got to meet Dan Aykroyd which is more than many people can say. And not just saw from a distance ei...

I know, once again, I vanished. But I hover. I lurk. >.> I know where you sleep-I mean I know you've missed me. xD

Anyway....very little in the way of art has gotten done since my un-announced hiatus. I dunno, I just went into a funk. Which always seems to be the case. I also don't think I mentioned it but I'm working now for Kohls. It's a clothing/department store. I'm a cashier. It's nice having a steady paycheck again but I'm finding more and more I'm immensely unhappy being there.

It's not just Kohls it's retail in general. I dislike not being able to do art-like things and even school is becoming a huge burden. I'm just unhappy. What makes it worse is that my parents don't care to listen or help me figure things out so I'm on my own. I'm 21 now so I guess I should just grow up and deal with it on my own...but I'm really lonely and there's just too much for me to handle. Things are happening too fast for me. @_@

I have several goals I would like to achieve for myself but I'm finding it harder and harder to do things on my own. And I know why that is but I don't feel it necessary or appropriate to say exactly what that is here on DA. ~legolasofthewood knows what I'm talking about and there's just not much I can do at the moment to implement the solution that I know would make things better for me.

Anyway I'm hoping to start using my Livejournal more for rants like this. That way you poor DA souls won't have to listen to it. I'll have the entries placed on friend's only so if you want to read you'll have to let me know so I can add you to my friend's list on there. The account is old so I'll be revamping it. Just note me here or mention it in a comment if you want me to add you on there.

Also please keep an eye out for some major commissions changes to come along. I've got something big planned and also I may or may not be slashing my prices down to half and I might also have a buy one get one type of sale going on too. So if you guys are looking for cheap quality art or know someone who is send them my way, I'll have updates sometime tonight or within the next coming week. :3

Until next time

~Ja ne

The Reaper a.k.a Remmie

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      <img src="http://fc10.deviantart.com/fs21/f/2007/308/e/5/e59bc938e22c301e.gif" width=...
I always do commissions first before anything else.
Commissions are still open so if you want a work without a lot of restrictions please check out my commissions journal here: [link]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So how does this work?

Unfortunately I can't take in 15 requests at once or even 15 art trades at once. Sorry for the journal spamming but I just wanted to make a quick update to my commission info, prints, and such.

I have lower prices now and I'm also taking jewelry, charm, and keychain commissions. I use hemp for the jewelry but I've also got colored string as well. I'll try and get some pictures up of the type of beads, string, and such that I have so you guys can have a better idea of what I've got to work with. Also, if you guys want a picture commission I'll throw in a sketch or lineart for you as a special thank you. Just check my commissions journal for more info.

Also, I now belong to a new art site called MangaBullet. The site is still small, but the community seems so friendly and they have a fantastic commissioning system. So if you don't want to send money, checks, or even use paypal with an individual person, consider commissioning me through MangaBullet.

Just click this image and it should take you right to my profile page on MB. If not just click this link: [link]

On another note made me a really awesome pixel plushie of my character Keary, whom you've all seen bleeding on my DA ID. xD

Isn't he adorable? I shrunk him down so I could have a new icon, which I've been wanting for about a year now. Don't worry Marina I saved yours so no worries. :3 So go and give Michelle a lot of love for making me that plush, I love him so much xD

And I may have a job soon. Tomorrow (or today for those that want to be technical xD ) I have a group interview at the Kohl's up the street from me for a permanent part time job. I've got so much qualification for this job it's not even funny so I'm 80% confident I'll get it. The other 20% is nerves, anxiety, and excitement. Even so this doesn't mean I don't need commissions. Part time perm work is great but it's still not guaranteed I'll get it. Even if I do I anticipate working for around 6 to 8 dollars an hour, which pales in comparison to the 9 I had at Halloween Adventure when they were here in the fall. But something is always better than nothing.

Either way I can't wait to start working again. I miss it, and I know getting used to going out again will help my anxiety subside a bit. It's only gotten stronger from my not being able to go out like to the movies, the mall, or even just family outings for my brother's scout troop or school things.

So please guys, wish me luck and do consider me for a commission. Hopefully all I'll have to worry about now are making sure my checks make it into my savings and checking account from my (hopefully) new job at Kohl's and picking up clothes after people who forgot what a hanger looks like or how one works.
Anyway, that's all for now. :3

~Ja ne

The Reaper

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  <a...
I've been meaning to do this art challenge thing for the longest time. Draw 100 pictures to match the 100 themes in the list. Highlight each one you complete and include a link to the image in that same line. This doesn't have to be completed in any sort of order. So here is the list I found in a journal of someone that I watch. I'm excited to do this. It'll give me something basic to go off of the next time I'm stuck and can't think of something to draw but feel the need to draw something anyway.
If anyone knows of any other art challenges similar to this one please let me know. I might do those too or add on any themes to this list that aren't there already. :3 Suggestions are welcome!
I have student loans and my college trying to collect money from me, both asking over 300 dollars each. Commissions would be highly appreciated right now. I need the extra money as work isn't cutting it. And I would like to be able to pay off my debts, and still be able to do things with friends. I also have to get my rabbits spayed ($181 per rabbit >< ) so things aren't going smoothly now. D:
Help a guy out and commission me if you have money to spare! Every little bit helps! Even if you can't please spread the word to your friends and such. Thank you.
(7/30/09) There are still only 4 slots left to commission me! Hurry before they fill up!
There has been a minor edit to the price list information and payment information. Please check the payment section for that info. Regarding the price list change you can mix and match the prices:
Example: You want one cell shaded chibi but you also want a full body cell shaded non-chibi character. Instead of charging you full price for both I would charge $10 USD for the cell shaded full body as normal but the cell shaded chibi would add $2 USD to your total (the $2 is the price for a second cell shaded character under the chibi price section).
So it would be: $10 for the first character + $2 for the second, chibi, character = $12 USD instead of $14. I will always take whichever character you want me to draw/ink/or color that costs more expensive and count that as the "first" character and then base the price off any other characters you request on the additional character prices for each respected section.
As always if you have questions on this please don't hesitate to ask or comment to this journal. I know I can get wordy sometimes and lose people.
Basically feel free to mix and match anything in the price list in this manner except character sheets and anything in the "Other Works" section.
(7/24/09) There has been an extra update to this news section regarding limits on the free chibi and waist up promo and cell shaded color prices have been added to the price list section EXCEPT for character sheets. ^_^
(7/19/09) All sections have been updated PLEASE READ EVERYTHING CAREFULLY!
I will now draw Chibi's!
I am now also excepting payments through paypal from other currencies, PLEASE read the payments section very carefully on this!
And also, I have altered my pricing list. Color is no longer extra and all prices have been adjusted accordingly. So Whatever the prices say underneath traditional and CG color is what you pay. You do NOT have to add in the corresponding lineart price anymore!
(7/24/09) From now until September 5th for every chibi commission you request, if you add a second chibi character I will throw in a 3rd character of your choice for free! Each new commission you ask for with 2 chibis is elligible for the 3rd free one. :3
The free chibi can be included with the other two (or one of them) or on it's own and will be done in the same way as the first two (sketch, lineart, color, etc) but it will NOT be a detailed one, just regular.
(7/24/09) Limited time offer on sketch commissions. I'm offering to do full body sketch character commissions for only $5 each and just $2 for each additional full body character. The free sketch offer also applies (see below). :3 The $5 dollar offer only applies to full body work everything else is as marked.
Offer is going to go on t...
D:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Every day, there are more and more Craigs List posts seeking “artists” for everything from auto graphics to comic books to corporate logo designs. More people are finding themselves in need of some form of illustrative service.

But what they’re NOT doing, unfortunately, is realizing how rare someone with these particular talents can be.

To those who are “seeking artists”, let me ask you; How many people do you know, personally, with the talent and skill to perform the services you need? A dozen? Five? One? …none?

More than likely, you don’t know any. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be posting on craigslist to find them.

And this is not really a surprise.

In this country, there are almost twice as many neurosurgeons as there are professional illustrators. There are eleven times as many certified mechanics. There are SEVENTY times as many people in the IT field.

So, given that they are less rare, and therefore less in demand, would it make sense to ask your mechanic to work on your car for free? Would you look him in the eye, with a straight face, and tell him that his compensation would be the ability to have his work shown to others as you drive down the street?

Would you offer a neurosurgeon the “opportunity” to add your name to his resume as payment for removing that pesky tumor? (Maybe you could offer him “a few bucks” for “materials”. What a deal!)

Would you be able to seriously even CONSIDER offering your web hosting service the chance to have people see their work, by viewing your website, as their payment for hosting you?

If you answered “yes” to ANY of the above, you’re obviously insane. If you answered “no”, then kudos to you for living in the real world.

But then tell me… why would you think it is okay to live out the same, delusional, ridiculous fantasy when seeking someone whose abilities are even less in supply than these folks?

Graphic artists, illustrators, painters, etc., are skilled tradesmen. As such, to consider them as, or deal with them as, anything less than professionals fully deserving of your respect is both insulting and a bad reflection on you as a sane, reasonable person. In short, it makes you look like a twit.

A few things you need to know;

1. It is not a “great opportunity” for an artist to have his work seen on your car/’zine/website/bedroom wall, etc. It IS a “great opportunity” for YOU to have their work there.

2. It is not clever to seek a “student” or “beginner” in an attempt to get work for free. It’s ignorant and insulting. They may be “students”, but that does not mean they don’t deserve to be paid for their hard work. You were a “student” once, too. Would you have taken that job at McDonalds with no pay, because you were learning essential job skills for the real world? Yes, your proposition it JUST as stupid.

3. The chance to have their name on something that is going to be seen by other people, whether it’s one or one million, is NOT a valid enticement. Neither is the right to add that work to their “portfolio”. They get to do those things ANYWAY, after being paid as they should. It’s not compensation. It’s their right, and it’s a given.

4. Stop thinking that you’re giving them some great chance to work. Once they skip over your silly ad, as they should, the next ad is usually for someone who lives in the real world, and as such, will pay them. There are far more jobs needing these skills than there are people who possess these skills.

5. Students DO need “experience”. But they do NOT need to get it by giving their work away. In fact, this does not even offer them the experience they need. Anyone who will not/can not pay them is obviously the type of person or business they should be ashamed to have on their resume anyway. Do you think professional contractors list the “experience” they got while nailing down a loose step at their grandmother’s house when they were seventeen?

If you your company or gig was worth listing as desired experience, it would be able to pay for the services it received. The only experience they will get doing free work for you is a lesson learned in what kinds of scrubs they should not lower themselves to deal with.
