Sports stars came out from the NY Giants, NY Jets, NJ Nets, a few baseball legends, Bill Blanks aka the creator of Tae Bo, and many more to form the Red and Blue teams. I had the pleasure of having access to the dugouts and field the whole time so I took full advantage of that access with my camera ready to go. I had no answer for her. I had scanned them years ago and they are sitting on a portable hard drive just taking up space. So, starting tonight, I will be going through them and starting to edit and post the ones I feel are worthy of DeviantART submissions. Just to remind everyone, these will be far less quality than my digital pieces because they were 35mm originally.

I hope you all enjoy these for their artistic qualities as well as the flashback to the good old dark room days.

Greetings all!

It's been almost a month since I wrote a journal entry so here is one finally!

Since Rusudan's shoot I've been in a whirlwind of events and interesting photo-ops.

As a photojournalist for EastboundFX.com I attended the AnimeNEXT 08 Convention in the Meadowlands Expo Center of New Jersey this past weekend. I have now seen the glory of cosplay (people dressing as their favorite characters) and have plenty of pictures to show for it (Almost 300!). I've placed a few up on here so far with more to come as soon as I figure out the characters each person represented. You can already see Tifa, Rinoa, and Yuffie of Final Fantasy kicking the ass of a character from Boys over Flowers in the gallery featuring Jessica (from EastboundFX.com), Lara, Melanie, and Carlos. They did a great skit for the Cosplay Masquerade and costume contest held at the convention Saturday night.

Union Square seems like the center of New York arts and entertainment unlike Times Square and other places in the city ever could be. At any given time you can walk through and experience something truly fun, interesting, amazing, funny, exciting, or just plain weird! With my camera always with me I am at the forefront of great picture opportunities.

My main passion has been capturing images of the squirrels that roam the trees and grass around Union Square Park scavenging for food or chasing people for some of theirs. These cute rodents haven't let me down yet for great shots. I also have been trying to get more pictures of my other animal fascination of sparrows. These quick and agile birds can seemingly fly through any tight spot from chain-link fences to the narrowest of tree branches with no fear or problem. I also love how they torment pigeons and squirrels by being able to grab food away from them before they have a clue the sparrows are even around.

Finally, no Union Square Park gallery is complete without the singers, dancers, musicians, skaters, and any other visitors to the park that give it a distinct personality from the rest of the city. With New York University, Baruch College, the East Village, the Flatiron District, and many other culturally rich pieces near Union Square, the park is never at a loss for talent and intrigue and my camera will always be ready to capture it for all of you to see.

I hope you all continue to enjoy the images placed on the walls of this exhibit hall called DevilishSaintNY and please catch my next installment of this journal soon!

Greetings all!

Yesterday I posted a bunch of pictures from the I Love Taiwan Heritage Festival that took place around Union Square Park on Sunday. It was fantastic. The music, the food, the fun, the women. The women have such style and beauty! Can't forget about the million dogs and babies. I have a few pictures posted of them too. Enjoy!

(Small programming note: In case you haven't realized I will be posting mainly Asian themed photos such as festivals and concerts but will mix in my other passions such as animals, sports, architecture, and portraits.)

I may have some pictures posted soon of Dat Phan with MAXIMUM copyright placed on them as he is a very respected and now quite famous comic (Original winner of Last Comic Standing). I consider him the Kelly Clarkson of comedy because he has stuck around more than other winners of the show and continues to reinvent his act. Complete hilarity and it was a pleasure to see him perform and meet him after.

Greetings Fellow DAists!

I've been exploring the great world of DeviantART and have seen quite a variety of what this site deems art (not just the massive "Artistic" Nude section!) and I'm left with a dilemma of sorts. What and how much do I put up?

So far the images I've posted are from my baby aka my Canon Rebel. They are some of what I feel are the best images I've taken with it. However, what was I doing before I purchased that camera? Before that was a cheap HP digi-cam that required 4 AA batteries to run, barely had 16mb internal space, and had three size settings: 1, 2, and 3 stars. I needed a camera to pass a web class and Sears bait and switched the hell out of me to sell it (I wanted a Sony Cybershot!!). Before that was the old 35mm Pentax still collecting dust in my house. Spanning from about the late 1980s to now that's too big of a collection to throw up on here so I'm left to figure out what and how much of it should go up.

Should I bother putting up the scanned 35mm pictures despite the quality of them being as it were for that type of film? Should I put up pics from the HP despite not having a truly large amount of editing ability with them (Photoshop would turn them to weird deformed images in a heartbeat)?

What do you all think? (cue DA to release the new journal abilities of polls)

My prayers go out to all those families affected by the earthquake in China and neighboring areas. For some reason it seems Mother Nature has had menopause this last few weeks and has decided to whoop ass on the world. I hope she knows no matter what she throws at us we will prosper. We will rebuild homes and families and move on to the future.

Wow! The world of digi-photography is great when there is SO many magazines out there which seem to bring out the best in their readers!

When I decided to jump into much more professional photography I began looking for tips on everything from lighting in different situations to using Photoshop to its full potential. I have to first say the UK kicks ass in the level of work and amount of information they put into their magazines. Their reporters seem to go to the ends of the Earth to give readers a glance at how many types of photography you can enjoy. When I say ends of the Earth I mean it! There was a beautiful article of an expedition to Antarctica to shoot glaziers and the sea life down there. Magnificent images of their ship going through icebergs and a really eye-catching shot of a seal staring at them through the hole of an old freighter.

Most magazines have generic titles such as Popular Digital but there is one in particular that caught my eye and now I am greatly in love with it- Digital Photo Pro. It's an American published magazine yet feels much like I am reading a UK magazines writing and the images are in amazing print quality. DPP is not your ordinary tip magazine highlighting how to do different camera effects and what lense you should by for your specific side of the industry. It focuses on the "masters" of digital photography.

The first issue I bought featured an image of a woman with nothing on but a red silk cloth covering up enough to allow the magazine to be sold in any newsstand and a black background as if she was floating in midair when the shutter was fired. Upon examination of the article it was about Howard Schatz, the master of underwater photography. He built his own photography pool at his studio which never has chlorine so all his models can keep their eyes open during the shoot. This leads him to some amazing images that seem impossible if it wasn't for the gravity defying effect water has.

But I digress. The point is Howard Schatz didn't just talk about himself and his work and the pool and all that other self-centered dribble! He gave insight into the art of underwater photography. All interviewees talk about the equipment they use, why they use it, how they use it, and give tips to better your own work. This makes for a fantastic magazine and invaluable advice source!

All those looking to further their photographic experience and knowledge are highly, HIGHLY recommended to look through their local newsstand and find a magazine or a few which you can learn much of what you will need to succeed. Even if it means a few extra $ such as I pay for my favorite UK magazines go for it! It will be greatly worth it!

Enjoy the magazines and your art because there is nothing like showing people things they would never see with the naked eye or notice without the lens to bring it out.

Greetings Once Again!

I have put up a gallery of architectural pictures. Since I purchased the zoom lense for my camera I've found a new passion for grabbing as close as possible pictures of the lit up roofs of some Manhattan buildings. Here is the first set of images from that endeavor. I hope you all enjoy the wonder and beauty that's so high above the city only a camera lense can capture it.

Greetings all!

Today I've put up a few pictures of a very good friend of mine named Jennifer. I asked her to be my first model using my new camera for portraiture and she was great. I tried to have her in two main areas: bedroom with 2 windows and the bathroom with the small frosted glass window. This was approximately 8am so the sun was brilliant coming in and gave me very little to do with my camera's settings to get the desired effects.

Enjoy!

So what's up everyone?!

I know I mentioned Union Square in my first entry and I still plan on posting some pictures of that collection but lately I've had the opportunity to do much more portraits and have taken some truly great ones I really wanted to put up asap!

As I said I still want the Union Square pictures up but I need to seriously figure out which ones fit DA. Please keep checking back for those.

For now I am posting a bunch of portraits of a few good friends. Tonight (or this morning...) I am putting up pictures of Linda aka my partner in crime from EastboundFX.com. We attended the Annual Asian Pacific Heritage Festival in NYC to cover it for that site (some pictures of that coming soon too). After 7+ hours of walking around we remembered we needed headshots to add to the site as newer members to their staff. This lead to a fantastic impromptu photo shoot of Linda.

We split time between Linda sitting in front of a fountain and sitting on a bench. I was amazed by how great the pictures came out but not as amazed as Linda was that the person in the pictures were her.

I hope all who take a look at these pictures will enjoy the beauty of them and the beauty of Linda.

Greetings to all my fellow DA addicts!

It is I! TheDevilishSaint! Aka Jason Linetsky your humble New York shutterbug (someone find a newer word!).

Over the last year I've contemplated my place in the photography world and have come to the conclusion I am extremely stuck in the drab family photo area of the art form. That is truly unacceptable!

I recently purchased my first DSLR kit and some extra fun accessories and set out to start becoming much more professional. I've started taking photos of many genres while experimenting with camera settings, reading up on techniques from a large assortment of digital photography magazines (US and UK), and figuring out what I want my style to be. I currently have a few of my first fashion shoots scheduled and have been out in some of the most beautiful areas of NYC trying to find interesting and fun sights and people to grab shots of.

First on my hit parade (cue Casey Cassum!) will be a gallery of Union Square. Check out my next journal entry for more on that. I hope it will never stop growing as a gallery because I am amazed by the quality of photos I can take in that one small section of the city.

Hope everyone is enjoying themselves and their arts!
