I feel so bad for my boyfriend today.
Yesterday his dog, Lucy, got hit by a car. It didn't kill her, but it probably would have been better if it did.
It shattered her left back knee and I think it broke a few other bones in the leg. He took her to the vet and spent 200 dollars for them to take x-rays and all that.
They told him that he could repair the leg for about 1000 dollars, or he could have it amputated for about 600 dollars.
He wants to get it amputated, but if he spends that money right now, he will be penniless.
We were talking yesterday, and he expressed the idea of maybe just having her put down.
He was so sad. It made me very sad. I know exactly how he feels. My dog got hurt one time and I spent 300 dollars at the vet, and they said he needed surgery and it would cost about 1400 dollars.
I didnt have that kind of money, and that particular vet had no payment plans. But my dog was fine without the surgery and he's okay now...but Aaron's situation is much different.
My dog could go without the surgery (he had a puncture in his windpipe that was letting air leak out under his fur all over his body...but the hole would heal on it's own, just much slower)
Aaron's dog can't just sit on a shattered leg until it heals. She's in constant pain. My dog wasn't in pain, he was just uncomfortable..

Anyway, so he had plans to take Lucy to the vet this morning to have her surgery. He was going to talk to the vet about a payment plan. And *most* local vets will offer a payment plan.

I don't know what happened at the vet, but he text messaged me this morning saying "I hate the vet" and that's all I've heard so far.

I'm terrified that he had to put her to sleep. I'm assuming that the vet would not offer a payment plan.

I told Aaron that if they did, and if he needed the help, we could go half and half with the bills. But if they didn't, there's nothing I can do. I'm broke as a joke.

But I did reassure him that if he did decide to put her down, that there's nothing wrong with that decision and at least she would not be suffering.

But he loves his dog. He hasn't been close to any other pet besides his cat, Tux, and I'm afraid Tux is close to his death bed. Aaron has had Tux since...wow forever. I know the cat is older than 8 years old.
And he's already expressed that when Tux dies he's gonna be pretty sad.
So, just to think that he allowed himself to get close to another pet and this shit happens. It breaks my heart.

I mean, I know it's not really a huge deal, but pets get very close to your heart and it hurts to see them suffer, and it hurts to lose them.
And I hate to see Aaron sad.
