Is DA slooooowly coming back to sanity?

Maybe the uprising toward the Stupidest Thing Ever (the "share" buttons) has been effective. Maybe the loss of so many serious artists has been effective. Maybe the protest has been effective.

Maybe.

But now, at least, there's a hope. Take a look (and vote, please, and comment) at this poll: [link] regarding this possible feature.

We all know that the best thing would be just giving the option to disable the links, but this seems to be too far-fetched (or maybe it'll break some serious deal)... but whatever. If dA really wants to complicate a very simple thing, I can't care less: this proposed thing is better than nothing at all.

Come on, dA!

Do the almost-right thing, after the big mess you put us into!

I'm so tired to come here and watermark my works and, generally speaking, of this whole stupid Share Links mess that I can't be bothered anymore. I want to make features, and this is what I'm about to do.

Changes in my gallery

You may have noticed some big changes in my gallery. This journal wants to be an explanation for those changes, mostly for all my friends here who maybe are wondering what happened.

After the implementation of the "Share Buttons" imposed by deviantART, I felt I had to take two lines of action if I wanted to stay here - and I want to stay here, because I just can't think to loose all the friends I made on this site, friends whose works, comments and criticism have been for me a great inspiration and encouragement in these two years.

The first line of action is practical. After the introduction of the "Share Buttons", I just have to protect my work. I already gave reasons for that in this journal, so I won't bother you repeating them here: if you're interested, go there and read.

(Additional information on why you should really protect your artworks can be found in the comments of this deviation (the part in italics), advice given kindly to me by ~Weasels-Revenge. They are up now as a News Article too, Question about Sharelinks. You can also refer to his journals on the matter to have a thorough treatment of the subject in a much more professional way than I could ever think to offer.)

The second line of action is driven by protest. Something that won't be so much effective, I know, because I'm only a micron of this enormous website. But... it's like when you go to the supermarket and don't buy Jaffa grapes, or Coca-Cola, or NestlÃ© products: you know that they won't ever even notice the lack of your two euros, but when you go home you feel a damn lot better.

Ok, enough blabbing. Shortly, this is what I did (I'm still in the process of doing it, and it's so slooow it'll take me days to complete):

I'm watermarking all^(*) my deviations

I'm really sorry for this. I know this will mostly affects my watchers and friends, reducing the quality of their browsing in my gallery, and this enrages me... but please understand me: this wasn't meant to protect my works from YOU, my watchers and friends, but from others. As one administrator of this site declared [link] , "[The Share Buttons Feature] isn't for the convenience of the artist; it's for the convenience of the user--the user who comes to the site and wants to show the world one of the images. Why would we let the artist control the user experience for other people using deviantART?"

I won't give any further comment on this. I already did it in this journal. So, sorry, my friends - and I really mean it - but I'm not here for the convenience of the [insert social network's name here]'s average user who now can share my art everywhere he wants without my permission so it can be grabbed and ripped with a simple right-click by all the others [insert social network's name here]'s users.

Plus, the watermark offered by deviantART sometimes is ineffective, so I used a personalized one.

I have drastically reduced the size of my works

The reasons are the same as the above, and my apologies too.

No need to repeat them. Now all^(*) the deviations in my gallery have a maximum resolution of 800 px.

So much for the naive and good-faithed concern of some moderator who heatedly told me that deviantART loves me and that, in my sarcastic journals, I was "missing a piece of critical information" because an option was in the making. Yeah, sure, one of these days.

I didn't miss at all the "piece of critical information". It was in $chix0r's journal of some days ago, in which the girl told the upset community that "there will be an opt-out implemented" in this comment

[link] Fact is, I know better, having worked myself for years in the management of a large virtual community, and the subsequent intervention of DA Boss Himself

$spyed, "SIX EASY POINTS; Why Disabling Share HURTS YOU BIG" [link] widely confirmed what I thought. In fact, after Da Boss intervention, not a single line was spoken anymore about the opt-out implementation for days.

(I won't bore you to death with my past experience. You can't even imagine how many times I saw this happen: the moderators are the link between management and community, and they speak truly. Then the money-holders come in with a different tackle on things and - boom! - silence.)

So I was waiting. Frankly, I didn't expect any surprises. I was expecting respectful official silence, necessary for the community to digest the diktat of the money-holder and maybe drown things with time (as usually happens). Gee, I was so wrong!

I was following $chix0r's journal with a smile, just to see how the management would take back the promise, but I was totally surprised when I stumbled upon these lines (the first "written" ones after the worshipping silence).

First, `realillusions goes right into science-fiction realm saying: "Unfortunately, if this is what it takes to appease what is probably 5% at the absolute most of the community [...] then so be it. But it really is sad."

Hey! All the community was asking for was an option! Get real! Nobody ever asked to take down those links that you seem to adore (even if it would've been the only artistically sensitive thing to do, but this is my opinion)! So you're saying that it is SAD that artists here have an option to choose how their art can be diffused? This speaks volumes...

But this is nothing. Go to that same link and see with your eyes what $chix0r (yep, the same one who "promised") answers:

"To be honest, I share your thoughts and we're still pondering what to do about it. I feel that disabling links goes against everything we stand for."

Huh?

DISABLING LINKS GOES AGAINST EVERYTHING WE STAND FOR???

You serious? So, let me re-word that... "everything deviantART stands for" is giving thousands of facebookids the opportunity to click a button on whatever art posted on deviantART and link it almost everywhere, so other hundreds of facebookids can "oooh" and "aaaw" over it and then right-click it and use it on their lovely videos on u-tube or as avatars in their online role-playing games?

This is everything deviantART stands for?

Quite a dAramatic wording for some sharelink buttons, don't you think?

New features ahead. So, if you want, scroll down. The good, wonderful, eye-catching, meaty, artistic part of this journal lays some inches below. But, if you want, please take a couple of minutes to read.

The community is all stirred up because of the infamous "share" links. Let's share some facts: many love them, a few hate them. Many people (me among those) want an option to not show those links under their art.

Now, let's put something straight: these links are not an encouragement for art-theft. Quite the opposite, in fact: they are a step against art-theft, because they link back to your work.

This said, I would love to put something else straight too. Like, for example, the fact that almost (I said "almost") everyone with some official status on DA these days is writing his/her head off to tell us how great this thing is and how we should be grateful to have such a shiny, click-once, incredible marketing opportunity to spread our unvaluable works all over facebook, twitter, reddit, diggit, whatsthenameit, spammit and phuckweet.

You got to be kidding, guys, c'mon. I will quote the Immortal John McEnroe in the recent Nintendo Wii tennis game commercial: You! Cannot! Be! Serious!

You really think we can buy, as an explanation, that our art linked on redditface will give us something special? [Insert another John McEnroe quote here]

Maybe a real-life example is needed, here. Some of you may know already that I am a published author. My novels are on the shelves here in Italy, they are translated abroad and my last one is going to be a movie next year. Now I will give you another personal info: I have a Facebook account and, more than that, I write on my Facebook account: I'm not taking the Fifth on that. But Facebook is not anything serious, as we all know, so on Facebook I write about... soccer. Yes, soccer. I mean, I use Facebook to mock my city-rivals and to have fun writing long articles about FC Inter, my favourite team. And guess what? My literary agent, a person who is paid to care about my professional career and public image, has called me on this matter not once, not twice, but six times in the last few months. I want the option to disable these links under *my* deviations.

Reason? I don't like them. Should be enough, since it's *my* art we're talking about and how *my* art is presented.

Please, for all those who will be tempted to do it: I don't need another patronizing explanation that "this is the internet" and so on, because I'm in Internet since BBS days and I know everything about rightclicks, copyandpastes, screencaptures and so on.

This is NOT the point.

(Just to make things clear, saying that with this deviantART is encouraging art-theft - as I read somehwere in the past days - is pure ignorance. In fact, these icons go a step AGAINST art-theft, because they link back to your artwork.)

As I said above, THIS IS NOT THE POINT. The point is, I don't want them. Simple as that. I don't want anonymous people on Facebook and Twitter and other mass-kids websites just a click away from spreading my works just everywhere. I can't prevent them to do it, but I don't want to encourage them either by giving those lovely oh-so-colorful kiddy icons to click on. If I want to post my works on Facebook, I would do it myself, thanks.

I think people are right in asking to have the option to not show those icons under their deviations. Nobody is telling anyone they can't have their wonderful Facebook fastway click-a-links all over the place. I just want to be able to not have them. Is this so unbearable?

There's no need to explain over and over why I should love them and drool all over. True, some people are upset because they don't know (and in this case the staff's explanation is great), but many many others simply don't want those icons. I, for one, don't want them. Why not allowing me the option to not have them?

I hope this option will be implemented as soon as possible. If it won't, so be it. Nothing dramatic, at least on my part. (Yes, because there are others that have reasons to be more concerned than I am: just think of all the models and the artists that post their works in the Artistic Nude galleries and now will have kazillion of kids drooling all over their photos in a site - Facebook - where people is listed with their real names. Funny, huh?) I will live even with those hateful icons under my art (which, by the way, are making DeviantART resemble more and more a social network and not an art site, which is something that is being totally overlooked).

But, if the option will be implemented, and as soon as it will be implemented, I will go thru my deviations one by one and I will get rid of them.

Maybe some of you didn't notice it yet, but now it's possible to post thumbnails in the artist's comments. This is a big improvement: like this, we can refer to similar photos or such, making the whole posting process more complete and satisfying. Thanks DA for this little but important innovation!

Then, my 3D image "Fractals at an Exhibition", after getting a DD, has been featured in the article 3D Love #7 - OMG I thought it was a Photo! which is always a big compliment for every 3D artist. Thanks ^joannastar for this Go take a look and... well, try to forget they are 3D works and just look... you'll be amazed

That's all for this week. Today is DA's 9th birthday... even if I'm a member only since 2006, I remember all too well when DA appeared on the web. At the time, I was working for the first really big Italian virtual community and we regarded the appearance of deviantART as a big event. Well, we were right

FC Inter, the soccer team I support, just exchanged our star-player Zlatan Ibrahimovic with Barcelona's striker Samuel Eto'o.

Ibrahimovic made us dream for four years. Eto'o is an incredible player, but he will take some time to take the place of Ibrahimovic in FC Inter supporters' heart.

Update:

Well, I noticed it yesterday. It's almost shocking. To think that my works here have been viewed one hundred thousand times. I consider deviation views far more important than pageviews: it means people looking at my works, not clicking my icon or something. Wow. I mean... One Hundred Thousand... it's more than the people gathered at the stadium where my loved FC Inter plays during the clou-matches of the season!

So... what to say, if not THANK YOU? Thanks for these two years of support, and for taking the time to come 100,000 times to one of my deviations. A big, big, big thank you to you all.

Strange anagraphic happenings aside, this week I have TONS of features for you, specially in the category I like most: 3D works. Hello, how are you? I'm fine, thanks.

Lately people keep asking me more or less the same questions, so I decided to devote this journal to give a collective answer. If I were more popular, I would've titled this journal Stefano's FAQ, but I'm not.

Why in your features there are almost always the same artists?
That's only partly true. I always try to browse around and discover someone new (and I steal a lot of favs from the Featuring Bunch - see below), but yes... I make my features looking at my favs, and of course the people I watch are there more often than not.

Why in your features one can never find a DD or a very popular image?
That's only partly true. I feature what I like, always, without looking at the number of favs the image already has. But the space for the journal entry is limited, so I give priority to the artists I consider under-faved or under-rated (see the Featuring Bunch below).

You dirty bastard, do you have a foot fetish?
Absolutely no. And, to make this evident once for all, I dedicated my Special Spotlight Box of this week to get rid of these uncontrolled rumors.

Hey, that's great. I didn't remember that, but some minutes ago I connected and I saw my page changed. Now it says "Deviant for 2 years". I looked and... June 30th, 2007.

Two years here... that's a lot of time. And in these two years I learned so much from you, yes you... seeing your works, commenting them, receiving your comments and your criticism.

When I signed up that night it has been almost casually: I wanted to see a friend's gallery and decided to become a member on the spur of the moment. Well, since then I grew a lot... and had TONS of fun! I "met" new people, made friends all over the world, discovered incredible artists... and grew as an artist myself.

What's New?

There's only one Kobe, I know, but I'm following NBA finals and this is feature #(24*2)...

I'm a bit dizzy because the NBA finals are giving me jet-lag. Yesterday night, for the second time in four matches, LA and Orlando needed an overtime... this meant six-twenty AM here in Italy. Gosh. But one of the best memories I have in my long basketball fan career is when I went to see the LA Lakers when I was in California... Magic Johnson still played, then, and it was unforgettable.

So, every year I get hooked on the playoffs. Last year LA lost, but this time maybe...

Go Kobe! And, please, let's finish the series in five, so I can take again some regular sleep pattern.

What's New?

Well, I'm still celebrating FC Internazionale 17th title in the Italian soccer championship. That's the reason of the title of this journal: in an very heated press-conference some months ago, Inter head coach, Jose Mourinho, said that our main rivals (horrible AC Milan, hateful AS Roma and the thieves of Juventus Turin) will have "zero titles" at the end of the season. With his strong Portuguese accent, the phrase (in Italian "zero titoli") became sseru tituli and became a slogan: now it's on t-shirts, in stadium chants, in sports newspaper headlines... and now on DA too!

Lots of features about to come, so I will stop here. Sseru tituli!

Champions!

We are champions!

FC Internazionale Milano won the Italian Serie A title for the 17th time, 4th time in a row. Yesterday night in Piazza Duomo in Milano there was a crowd of 60,000 chanting and celebrating, waiting for the team to come on an open double-decker bus.

This year (like in the past three) FC Inter literally destroyed the opponence of Berlusconi's owned _{AC Milan} and FIAT-controlled thieves of _Juventus .

We are the Champions for the 17th time. I've just finished celebrating after a 36 hours non-stop

=No-More-Ignorance's club contest on Censorship has ended! Now the judges are hard-working (and it's really hard, believe me) to make the decision on the winners. Stay tuned for next week results.

This is my feature number 42. For those who don't know it, 42 is also the answer to life, the universe and everything. Thanks to Douglas Adams and his fantastic "trilogy in five parts" The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy. After seven million and a half years, the big computer came out with the ANSWER. And the answer is... 42. Problem is, people don't know the real question. At the end, instead of waiting another ten million years for the question to be calculated, they settle for "How many roads must a man walk down before you can call him a man?", from Bob Dylan's song. Pure genius. Pure Douglas Adams genius. And Towel-Day is approaching: the 11th of May, in fact, Douglas Adams fans from all over the world will go through their daily schedule with a towel on the shoulder as a tribute to the fantastic author in the anniversary of his untimely death. This journal is dedicated to him and his works. Don't panic!

I invite you all to participate at the contest launched by the club =No-More-Ignorance with the theme of censorship The best thing to do about censorship is to let speak the ones who usually are the perfect victims of it: artists. Plus, the contest has also nice prizes: one year subscription to first place, six months sub to second, plus features and such. By all means go take a look at =No-More-Ignorance page to know more about it.

The title of this journal is related to an idea that I had with *thegreenmanalishi: a bit tired to see poorly shot flowers and split-images with clouds on the left and profiles on the right (you know what I'm talking about, do you?) receive hundreds if not thousands of faves, we decided to devote some of our time to search the site for wonderful photos and deviations that, because of a virus called lack of popularity of the deviant, are going mostly or completely unnoticed. So, I will give my feature priority to the less faved (of course I will keep on featuring the art I like most, no matter how much faved it is).

Are you familiar with the stunning 3D work of *ValentinaKallias? No? Well, you'll find a sample of her amazing 3D gallery in the 3D box at the bottom of this journal. Make sure to take a look, you won't regret it.

And, just to stay into Polemic Mode (today I have this urge to bitch around, y'know), *ValentinaKallias has just deleted her photographs. And this because of some dork who thought that, because she's beautiful and posted photos here, she ought to be "available" and stalked her, no matter if she's happily married for years. Congrats, dorks. Because of you, all the people who loved her photography works won't see them anymore. It's really true that the Mother of Idiots is always pregnant.

I noticed that you didn't like too much my Monographic Features. It was an experiment I wanted to do. Result: failed. Well... you missed the occasion to know great artists. I already know them and their works, so I'm more than okay with it.

Other than writing and translating, I began to tinker again with XSI and do some 3D again. Expect more digital art in my gallery very soon. If the renders aren't too shabby to being put online, that's it.

We're Proud to Present...

Remember some weeks ago when I talked about three special friends I've met here on DA quite unexpectedly?

Last week I presented you ~tresamie and her wonderful fractal gallery. This time I would like to point you to the stunning 3D artworks of ~RudolfHerczog. If you still don't know him, well... look at the box below and then I'm ready to bet you will go to his gallery just to see every single image he published here.

Rudolf has been fantastic to me (and to many others) when I was a 3D noob. His skills (as you will see by yourselves) are planets ahead of mine, but he was always ready to help: with suggestions, tutorials, tips, tricks, discussions on lighting and on modeling. Yes, modeling... those times, we both still used Bryce, and our modeling was limited to boolean interactions. Headaches!

Well, Rudolf was here. Always. Helping us noobs to find our way.

Recently he took an amazing task: modeling the whole Sacre Coeur Paris Cathedral with Cinema4D. Of course, he managed: I saw some results of his project in various 3D magazines. Let's hope he will post some image here too.

After the debate in the last weeks, at the club =No-More-Ignorance we launched a contest.
Theme: censorship

It seemed the best way to bring the issue of censorship where it belongs: artists. There's one year subscription subdivided between the first three prizes, plus features and such. Take a look at the club's journal for details. I will keep you informed, of course...

A terrible earthquake shook central Italy this week. I don't want to jump on the media-charity-wagon, so I will stray a bit from that kind of thing and I will report something wonderful: a very old lady, 98 (!) to be precise, was rescued after 40 hours under the debris. Seeing her in good shape, the rescuers asked her how she spent all that time under tons of cement, and she simply answered: "Knitting." Now, believe me... this is Italy. Those people will stand up again by themselves, with a dutiful help from us all.

I'm flabbergasted at the new screen life of William Shatner. I just discovered (a bit late, I know) "Boston Legal", and what the old Capt. Kirk do in that show is amazing. So amazing, in fact, that I dedicated to him the title of this journal...

Doublecrash Monographic Feature #1

We're Proud to Present...

As I said in my last journal, one thing that made me real happy lately has been finding here some artists that were (and are) very important to me.

I met them in another artistic website, and there we shared somewhat great experiences. Or, better, I had some great experiences, because at the time I was learning and I was moving my first steps into 3D, and they were of incredible help for me: inspiration, discussion, learning, growth... and, absolutely not least, friendship.

My talks and chats with Vivian, ~tresamie, date back to 2002, when I simply fell in love with her fractal works. Since then, I used her images many times in my renders, we started chatting and we developed a wonderful friendship that is still well alive, even if I, from time to time, disappeared totally from on-line life.

I want to present to you her works, because... well, I think they're fantastic. The really hard thing was selecting only a bunch of them, because I would've easily put her whole gallery in the box below.

Enough rant. Here we go, with the first of the monographeatures I will dedicate to artists very important for me.

I hope this will help you to know her works.

What's New?

This has been a somewhat hard week, at least here and at least for me, with the ban to my friend !BenHeine. I already discussed this and I don't want to insist further in this space. Just know that, if you want to discuss the issue you can do it here or, better, on =No-More-Ignorance page and journals. I still have hope that the ban could be revoked...

But, to remain in the field of my online-life, there's also something to be really happy for: I discovered that a great friend of mine is here too. She's a wonderful artist and I shared -- with her and very few others that are also here -- some wonderful years, years in which I discovered 3D and took my first steps at computer graphics. Those days had the novelty of the learning process, and the advice, the exchange, the artistic sensitivity and the art of those few have been an unvaluable inspiration for me. Having found them here on DA just makes me incredibly happy, and as soon as I can I will make a special feature for them so you will have the chance to know their works.

As for RL, I'm happy because of the growing success of my brother's last CD, "Dandelions on Fire". He wrote all the music and Carla Bozulich (former lead of "The Geraldine Fibbers") provided lyrics and vocals. Want to know more? Of course you want! Here's the link: [link]

This is serious.

My friend, and our friend !BenHeine has been permanently banned by deviantArt.

This happened because of the last illustration he posted, depicting a crucified Jesus wearing a condom. The message, stated clearly, was "GOD IS LOVE. USE CONDOMS." Initially they made him put a "mature content" flag, and this is (not by my standards) somewhat understandable. Then they deleted the image again and Ben put it on a second time. Then: permanently banned.

This is NOT a matter of religion or blasphemy. In my personal dictionary, "GOD IS LOVE" is, more or less, what poor Jesus said preaching during all his short 33-years-span of mundane life. And it is NOT "hate art", because the image was expressing the doubts (shared by millions of people) on what Benedictus the Sixteenth stated about the use of condoms in a world chock-full of AIDS victims and unwanted children (who, after some year, usually die from starvation while Benedictus and the likes of him spend time polishing their jewelry).

So, it's NOT blasphemy and it's NOT hate art. Let's read the terms of service: DA can delete images "obscene, offensive, blasphemous, pornographic, unlawful, threatening, menacing, abusive, harmful, an invasion of privacy or publicity rights, defamatory, libelous, vulgar, illegal or otherwise objectionable".

Hmm... let's see: in fact, they can delete more or less what they want. Shucks: no need to be Plato to invent a dialectic gizmo by which insert any unwanted image in one of the above categories.

More than just a little bit annoyed, I did a very fast survey in the galleries and found those (believe me, they're only examples of a 10-minutes search):

So, let me understand, because maybe I'm really stupid: the above images can stay here untouched while a surely controversial, but "GOD IS LOVE" image causes a permanent ban?

And, with this, as a surplus, all us deviants and DA lose one of the most reknown modern illustrators and won't be able to see his works here anymore?

I wonder where the meanings of "deviant" and "art" are, right now.

Hi my friends,

I'm glad to be here again after another little while... I won't have anymore all the time I had in the past to stay here, but it's a pleasure all the same.

I was away for a couple of months, and when I came back, in the comments and in some notes I read, I discovered that some stupid short-brained someone created a "troll account" (I didn't even know what that was before, hey, it's never too late to learn something new) and used it to spam and to write stupid things at many friends of mine. This person is what I call "a flat-liner". (If you wonder why, just think of an electroencephalograph...)

I won't apologize for this, of course, but I want to use this space first to thank DeviantArt Staff because they removed the account not even needing my presence. And second to thank all the friends here who reported it while I was away.

Ok, enough said. I still have a couple of thousands of devs to go through. Expect some fave and run...

My favs keep disappearing. I mean, I fav someone's work, then I look on my favs page and it's not there. Many times, today, I had to go back, de-fav it and re-fav it... anyone else experimenting such behavior? It's annoying...

Well, one year has passed. I remember last summer, while I was lazily browsing the web and I thought to take a look at this DeviantArt I so much heard about.

One year later, I have... well, posted one deviation every 2-ish days, re-vamped my passion for photography, learned LOTS of things, spent here lots of time --- and I made many friends that, in turn, make me smile or think or just gawk with their works.

With some of them I even developed a deeper friendship, mostly online, because... well, we're all over the world. I've begun to consider timezones whenever I connect

And, after being away for so long, I finally found the time to feature some of your works again. They're great, and I hope this selection will make you know some artist you still haven't discovered.

In the past, I used to refer to the Net as "the Void". Well, sometimes, when I'm here, I think maybe I was wrong

Oh my oh my.

Finally the number has arrived. From today on, I can say I'm the answer to Life, the Universe and Everything.

If you're not familiar with the fantastic work of Douglas Adams, you may not grasp immediately the full weight of this burden, the overall meaning of this... but, if you are, then...

French people are always gentle to me: every year, they celebrate my birthday with huge public manifestations of their love for me. And they never forget, they never skipped a single year! How lovely they are...

FC Inter is still first in Italian Serie A ranking, and now there are only four matches left.

Here we just celebrated April 25th, the Anniversary of the Liberation from the Fascist of Mussolini. It was a bit sad, celebrating after the results of the recent elections, but that's it: we won't forget, no matter what (yes, *what*) we have as a Premier.

What's New? I'm Back!

Yep, I am.

I was away for so long that I won't bore you with the details.

Just this: when I was able to connect again, I had more than a thousand devs to see. I tried, but didn't make it in time for the weekend. So, I decided to look at photos first... thus, this Special Galore ComeBack Feature will be only photos. I will dedicate another feature to traditional and digital art.

Ah, yes. Another little bit. Italy just voted. Yeah, elections. And, for the first time in 60 years, we are without left-wing representatives in our parliament. What's New? One Century!

Founded exactly one century ago, March 9th 1908, Internazionale Football Club was an act of rebellion against the autarchic policy of the turn of the century, and was founded to open also to foreign players the soccer fields of Milano. The first Italian title arrives in 1910. The last one, the fifteenth, arrives last year, and it is the Title of the Records: a streak of 17 consecutive wins (all-time european record), 24 points more than the second team, with a final score of 96 points (record for all the european champioships).

During the Fascist period, il Duce Benito Mussolini imposes his dictatorial hand on the team, forcing it to change its name (a name that, in his mind, was too similar to the Internationalism of the communist) into Ambrosiana Inter, from the saint patron of Milano, St. Ambrose. Finally, after the end of the Second World War, FC Internazionale reverts to its original name and becomes known ever since as "Inter".

The international spirit of the team is always present: now, the team is composed by players from Portugal (Luis Figo, Gomes Passos PelÃ¨, Nuno Maniche), Brazil (the goalkeeper Julio Cesar, Aparecido Cesar, Maicon, Maxwell), Argentina (the captain Javier Zanetti, Hernan Crespo, Nicolas Burdisso, Julio Cruz), Honduras (David Suazo), Romania (Cristian Chivu), Colombia (Ivan Ramiro Cordoba, Nelson Rivas), Hungary (Attila Filkor), Sweden (Zlatan Ibrahimovic) and, of course, Italy (Marco Materazzi, Francesco Toldo, Mario Balotelli).

Living in Milano and supporting Inter FC is special. It's a family thing, a legacy trasmitted from father to son, and it's curious to see how once Inter FC was the "team of the middle-class" and AC Milan was the "team of the people", while now the situation is completely reversed: the arrogant, right-wingers supporters of Silvio Berlusconi (president of AC Milan) opposed to a whole army of leftish actors, intellectuals, artists and, of course, common people who support Inter FC along with the new immigrant population (North-Africans, Romanians, South-Americans), forming a varied, colorful, joyous group of supporters. And I have to mention Inter Campus, a structure of soccer schools for kids opened all over the world with particular attention to places where war and poverty are a great burden on children. Inter Campus exists in Palestine, Lebanon, Iran, Iraq, in the Favelas of Rio de Janeiro, in Sarajevo and in tens of other "hot" places. Gino Strada, founder of Emergency and a great Inter FC supporter, is trying to open one Inter Campus also in Afghanistan. And... well, Inter FC is the only team who played a game against a selection of EZLN Mexican players guided by SubComandante Marcos.

These are things that makes me PROUD to be an INTER FC supporter. And now, 100 years has passed. Seems incredible. When I was a kid, my father taught me the frontline of the Great Team that won everything in the Sixties, and I still remember it. Inter FC is a passion, but it's also more than that: it's a social thing, it's love, it's irrationality.

It's... Inter.

Hello folks!

I'm baaaack! I finished the translation, and I'm settling in the new apartment. Whopee! This journal will be the last "faved and runned"... I want to thank you for all the messages and the comments you left me while I was present-but-absent. I'm really happy in the new place, and now that the important things are here (PCs, Kundry, bed) and the translation is finally over, I can resume my activities (writing, 3D, DA-ing )

So, this will be the last journal with FaveAndRuns. But this doesn't diminish the beauty of the images, photos and renderings I saw this week. Ok... these 10 days, because I'm late with this "weekly"...

I was hoping to solve everything (move and deadline) in a week, but, as always, I've been far too optimist So, here's another "fave and run" week and another "fave and run" journal... I'm beyond shame, by now

The new apartment is always cool, the fireplace works smoothly, and I just god tangled so much with the move&deadline that I'm terribly late with both.

Hi all.

I wasn't able to come up with a title. I thought of Spike Lee and the Irish game-card, but they didn't appeal to me, so at the end I went for a simple twenty-five. So I'm pissed.

I listened all week to TV rants about the Pope. I express my solidarity to the students at the University La Sapienza in Rome who protested against Benedictus the Sixteenth, because they were defending the right for the science to be independent from the Vatican. They have been bashed all week, so I'm pissed.

DA worked so smoothly today that it took me hours that I didn't have to comment your images and to select them for this journal, so I'm pissed.

But they are so cool that, at the end, I'm happy anyway

Hi folks!

What best way to begin a new year by using a header image of Marco Materazzi, one of the key players of my soccer team, Inter FC? It was a long time that I was waiting for my weekly journal #23 to use Marco's winning image as presentation

By the way, the translation of the title is "All crazy for Materazzi". It's a chorus we 80,000 chant very often at San Siro Stadium when Inter FC plays. You chant it with a ta-ta-tat-ta! ta-ta-ta-tat-ta! rhythm and it's just too cool.

This time I have so many features to show you that I will be very fast with my usual introduction. Mostly I want to thank you all for the wonderful, incredible support you gave me in these days... whoa, it was really great, so many comments and gifts and kindness... Thank you!

Damn... six months here. I became a member on July 1st, just to do something with my spare time. Something is about to happen. I take advantage of this international website to make a request: I am in search of Argentinian and/or South American soccer-fans deviants who wants to support Boca Juniors soccer team against Milan AC in the upcoming World Clubs Cup Final in Yokohama. Let the bastards lose, because they deserve it!

This is not a mere, puny soccer rant. I have my reasons. Milan AC represents the antithesis of fair-play, the great swindle of modern soccer. Super-powered in Italy by its owner, Silvio Berlusconi, who is also our ex (and sadly next) PM, a right-winger populist leader involved in corruption scandals, allied with xenophobic party Lega Nord and with the post-fascists of Alleanza Nazionale, mr. Berlusconi managed to transfer his "view of the world" to his soccer team.

Here are some facts (only a bunch of examples, due to the limitations of the journal lenght):

Milan AC is heavily involved in the betting scandals of 1980 and 1986, resulting with a strong penalty that brings the team in the Italian Second Division for two times.

On March 20th, 1991 Champion's League match against Olympique Marseille, Milan AC , down 0:1 and about to be thrown off the competition, takes advantage of a faulty sodium light to retire from the match, hoping to have the game final result changed by the UEFA. Yeah. It's maybe since I started to assemble my Weekly Features that I wanted to do something like this, and now I finally set up my mind. Do you remember the "This Week I Gawked At" images? Or, as someone always wanted me to title them, the "Images of the Week"?

Those (look at the Shoutboard here on the right) are the images I loved most since I'm a member of DA. And I decided to throw in a contest just to give back at least some of the emotions they stirred in me. Shortly (if I have enough time, maybe even today) you will be asked to vote your favourite one among them in a poll. The winner will get a 6 months sub.

And this is for the "democratic" part of the contest. But, me being not a big fan of democracy at all , I asked a couple of friends to join me in a triumvirate that will choose another winner among the Images of the Week. First thing, a big thank you. For all your comments, your support and... well, everything. As my job's deadlines are pressing, I will try to answer all your comments, but maybe I won't be able to. So, if this happens, please forgive me and please keep in mind that, if I really have to make a choice, I prefer to first comment your works and then, if I have the time, answer your comments on mine.

Now some fast news before leaving room to your images.

As maybe you already know, I re-arranged my gallery taking advantage of the new feature offered by DA staff. If you're curious about this, please refer to my previous journal to have more information about my classifying criteria.

The new gallery structure, tho, prevents me to link the "series" as I've done till now. So this week you will find a slight difference. I hope that, when more and more deviants will use this new system, I will be able to link again serial postings.

What's New

Hi everyone!

As you surely know, DA just introduced a new way to manage our galleries. I think it's really cool, so I spent a couple of hours yesterday to re-arrange mine. Here's a brief explanation of what I've done: I hope that those among you who are interested in my works will find it useful.

Other than the "featured" images you will see each time you click on my "gallery" link, you will find these folders:

3D Works
3D is my passion, so I put this folder on top of all the others. Here you'll find my 3D images, ranging from old ones (back to 2003) to the more recent works I've done with Softimage|XSI. As soon as I'll be able to use again my real PC, these will flow costantly in my gallery. I just can't wait.

Photos - Colorful
In this one I put the photo I took using the full power of Ibra's sensor. For those of you who don't know, "Ibra" is the name I gave to my Nikon D40X, after the Inter FC (soccer!) team leader, Zlatan "the Genius" Ibrahimovic.

Photos - Monochrome
In this folder you'll find the black&whites, the sepias and, in general, all the monochromatic photos.

Kundry
In this folder I put all the photos of my loved kitten, Kundry - They are not many, right now, but I intend to keep on photographing her, so it will grow.

Heimat Series
Tired to hear the usual "Are you Italian? That's great! Rome! Venice! Florence!" some time ago I decided to depict the beauties of my city, Milano. In my opinion, Milano is way underrated, and I want to remedy that. This series is open and will grow considerably with time.

Significance
In this folder you will find the pieces that I do trying to convey a message. It could be blatant or subtle, but is there. If you don't get it, it's probably my fault but I will improve...

Symmetries
I just love symmetries. One of the things that I like most is to take a photo and symmetrize it. In this folder you will find people's faces, scraps of metals, wood, peeling paint, even chicken entrails... everything symmetrized to achieve an effect that I simply can't tire of.

Manips

Hello...

I'm really glad to find you all still here after what happened to me yesterday.
The hi-jacking priests caught me by surprise entering my home screaming these menacing words: "Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!"
It's been really terrible.

Their floating black robes, their looks of utter distaste, their holy fanatism... and this just because I wanted to joke on this weekly journal being the Sixteenth! Can you imagine that?

They tortured me. They used stuffed, soft cushions on the most sensible parts of my body.
But I didn't give up!

I was heroic.
No matter what they tried, I didn't give up the keys to delete your great images and substitute them with theirs. So they were able only to change the words.

And you? You resisted up here, my friends! You resisted along with me! I simply *felt* I wasn't alone in that ordeal! Thank you from the deepest regions of my heart.

This morning, with a little help from my friends (I want to thank specially :devGrahamChapman: and :devMichaelPalin: ), I waved the sentence "freedom of thought" in front of them and they simply ran away.

A quick but heartfelt "thank you" to you all, my friends here, for having the guts and the stoicism to stay with me even when I wasn't here and for all your support. I really love you all.
Now let's resume our usual routine. And I'm really sorry for what the Vatican Commission said yesterday. I will restore my original comments as they were intended.
Aww, how good is to feel safe again!

This week I have so MANY beautiful features to show you that I don't want to linger on with words. I'll only say that my loved FC Inter won 4:2 against CSKA Moscow on UEFA Champion's League Matchday 4 with two goals scored by Esteban Cambiasso and 2 by Zlatan "the Genius" Ibrahimovic. His second (Inter FC's 4th) was supernatural.

UPDATE - for Milanese deviants only

So, if you're not living in Milano, you can skip this. We'll "see" each other tomorrow (friday) with my new Weekly Feature. I will translate the update anyway, tho, as a form of respect for everyone who took the time to come here and read (and because I usually hate when I find journal entries written in languages I don't know, LOL).

Oggi pomeriggio (8 novembre) alle ore 18:00, nella Biblioteca di Corso di Porta Vigentina 15, si terrÃ un incontro sulla letteratura horror con moi come ospite d'onore. Si parlerÃ molto di libri e, tra l'altro, ci sarÃ anche una "sfida" tra me e un altro autore: improvviseremo "on the spot" un racconto seguendo i suggerimenti del pubblico, per poi svelare le tecniche usate e approfittare di ciÃ² per approfondire i temi della scrittura creativa.
E cosÃ¬ magari ci si conosce...

Today Nov 8th, at 6PM, in the Public Library of Corso di Porta Vigentina 15 in Milano, there will be an encounter on horror literature with moi as guest-star. We'll talk at lenght about books and, in the meanwhile, there will be also a "contest" between me and another Italian author: we will write "on the spot" a short story following suggestions from the public, with the purpose to reveal the techniques used and to take advantage of that in order to delve into the creative writing process.
And so maybe we will finally meet...
