I'm sorry for my absence, but nowadays life keeps me busier than usual. It's a weird mix of a heavy workload, staff reduction, and illness of workmates, and it seems as if it won't get better soon. So I do not only have less free time, I'm also rather exhausted after every single day at work.

I'm longing to watch and comment your work though, and I'll try to catch up with everything until the next weekend. I just want you to know that I'm still here.

I'm finally back from vacation in Vienna and Munich.

I had a great time and it also seems as if I got my inspiration back, at least partially. In Vienna, I visited the MUMOK, the Secession and the Albertina with their extraordinary exhibitions of contemporary art, pop art, impressionist and expressionist paintings and - surprise, surprise - a special exhibition of American photographer Joel Sternfeld, which I particularly enjoyed very very much! It was also nice to spend so much time at the museums, because they were air conditioned...it was incredibly hot in Vienna!

In Munich, I just enjoyed the beer!

How would you explain the concept of abstraction/surrealism to someone who has never heard of it before?

If someone had never heard of abstract art before, I would ask them to listen to it, hear what it has to say to you.

It is interesting to see what kind of titles people give to abstract works, when I look at my finished art which doesn’t have a title, it usually suggests something to me. If it gives me an obvious answer I will ask it for something different, sometimes I wait while it thinks of a better answer.

How would you explain the concept of abstraction/surrealism to someone who has never heard of it before?

In my own words, I would say that it is something that we can't really touch but it allows us to play with our imagination, fantasy, feelings...without any limit..abstractly speaking of course. ;)

An abstract picture (maybe less so a surrealistic picture) requires the imagination, ideas and mind of those who watch it. Such it is not a one way street which transports the artist‘s vision to the watcher, but can at its best be a bidirectional process by giving the watcher the chance to be creative as well.
