The next few weeks marks an important part of the Islamic calendar. More than 3 million Muslims from around the world come together in Mecca in peace and harmony to perform their Hajj; the fifth pillar of Islam.

To all my Muslim friends, I offer my congratulations on the conclusion of the month of pilgrimage. May you and all of us grow more deeply in the knowledge of Allah, whose commitment is startlingly wide, not just for the children of Abraham but for all the children of Adam, as those know who daily walk in the strength of Allah’s presence and love, in humbleness and hope.

It is commendable to keep six fasts in the month of Shawwal. The Prophet, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, has said:

Whoever completes fasts of Ramadan then adds to them the fast of six days in the month of Shawwal, it will carry the thawab of fasting for the whole year. (Sahih Muslim)

This hadith had described the great thawab of six fasts of this month. Therefore, the Muslims should take this opportunity of acquiring such an enormous reward from Allah. It is more preferable to start these fasts from the 2nd of Shawwal and keep fasting up to the 7th of it. However, if, they are kept in other days, it is hoped that the requirement of the above hadith may also be fulfilled.

1. [link]
2. [link]

It had been the practice of the Prophet, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, that he would not sleep in the night preceding the day of Eid-ul-fitr. This night has been named in a Hadith as the Night of Reward (Lailatul Jaiza). Almighty bestows his rewards on those who have spent the month of Ramadan abiding by the dictates of Shari'ah, and all their prayers in this night are accepted.

Therefore, it is desirable to perform nafl prayers in this night. The Prophet, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, is reported to have said:

"Whoever stands up (in worship) in the nights preceding the two Eids expecting rewards from his Lord, his heart will not die when the other hearts will die." (Ibn Majah)

To benefit from this opportunity, one should perform as much worship in this night as he/she can, and should pray for all his/her needs and desires.

May Allah the Almighty include us amongst those He loves....
Ways to Handle Design Criticism

Guess most designers like myself experience criticism on their works from time to time, especially if we are trying out something new. Also, the clients that we present our works to are usually non-artistic people. It’s harder for them to think the way we do. So it’s better to be prepared for criticism; otherwise you may act in a manner that you probably will regret later. Below are some suggestions for dealing with design criticism.

Try to Keep Calm and Don’t Appear Annoyed
It’s difficult to take a step back after working hard on a project and designers usually tend to be more emotional with their work. Do not think clients will hold back their negative comments after seeing your angry face. Instead, they will see you as someone who can’t handle criticism. As long as the other party is not insulting you, try to take a calm and interested approach.

Understand the Clients’ Criticism
The most frequent criticism I got is “I don’t really like the design. It’s lack of something, but I can’t tell what it is exactly”. I felt heat all over me when I heard this the first time… But after some time, I realise it is better to help the clients formulate their thoughts. Outline their criticisms by asking them accurate questions so you can address them individually later.

Explain Yourself if You Can. Move on if You Can’t
If you are confident on convincing the clients, go ahead and explain the reasoning behind your design. Some clients will change their mind and agree with you if your explainations are clear and good. Otherwise try to move on and you’ll still look professional with the ability to take in criticisms.

ONE DAY OF THE MANY DAYS

There was a man traveling on a trip with his Wife and Kids, and on the way he met someone standing in the roadway so he asked him: Who are you? He said: I am the Money!

So the man asked his wife and kids: Should we ask him to ride with us?

They said together: Yes of course because with the money it can help us if we wanted to do anything, and if we wanted to get anything we desired, So they took the Money to ride with them.

And the vehicle continued its way until the man met someone else on the road
So the Father asked: Who are you?
He said: I am the high position and power

So the father asked his wife and kids: Should we ask him to ride with us?

So they all answered together in one voice: Yes of course because with the high position and power we have the ability to do anything we want and own anything we desired.

So they took the high position and power with them and the vehicle continued to finish its trip.

And likewise he met in the same manner many people which give the pleasures and desires of this life, UNTIL .. They met one person on the way ..

The Father asks him Who are you?
He said: I am the Deen (Islam)

So the father, wife, and kids said all together in one voice: No no this isn't the time, we desire the pleasures of this life and dunyah, and the Deen will prevent us and ban us from these things and it will take control over us, and we will be worn-out from being loyal to it and its learning. And the halal and the Haram, and this thing prayer and that thing hijab, and this fasting , and and and and and etc, It will be a burden upon us!!!
But what is certain is that we will definitely return for you to pick you up but only after we enjoy this life and everything in it.

So sadly they left him behind and the vehicle continued its trip. And out of no where something appeared in the middle of the road It was a check point in the road and it had a sign saying STOP!!!

And they found a man gesturing for the father to get out of the vehicle.

So the man said to the father: The trip has ended as far as you are concerned!!!!
And it is upon you to get out and come with me.

The father was shocked with fear and didn't say a word.

So the man said to him: I am searching for the DEEN.e Islam Is he with you?
He answered: No I left him not too far back. So if you can let me go back, I can get him for you:

You do not have the ability to go back, your trip has ended and there is no going back now.. returning is impossible said the man.

But I have

The Money,
The high position and power,
My Wife,
My Kids,
and and and and and and on...

The man said to him:
They will not benefit you nor will they protect you in front of Allah. Not one bit!

And you will leave all of this, and not one of them will help you except for The Deen e Islam you know? The one which YOU left back in the road.

So the father asked: And who are you exactly?
I AM DEATH

The one which you were needless of and didn't take into account in your trip!!

The father looked at his vehicle and found his wife taking control of it and continuing the trip with all of its passengers but him and none of them stayed with him, and none of them helped him in any way.

There are two blessings that most people are deluded by: Health and Available Time, and we are still lucky that we've both!!!

Dear All...

During these tough financial times, many people feel they have to push themselves to unhealthy levels in order to succeed. But high-pressure jobs and long hours take a real toll on their immediate and future health. Whether running for president, moving up the corporate ladder, or juggling the family's activities, success may come at a hefty cost.

The worst habits of these workaholics include: (There could be more like smoking, drinking etc... but these are just few to convey the message)

01. Forgetting to relax: Some stress can be good because it keeps you alert and motivated; too much stress, however, will take its toll on your body.
02. Eating on the go: Who has time to sit down for a healthy lunch? But beware of frozen meals, fast, and processed food that can be high in sodium, calories, and fat.
03. Putting off sleep for work: Lack of sleep can cause irritability, difficulty concentrating, memory problems, poor judgment, and obesity.
04. Not making time for exercise: Humans were not designed to sit at desks for 8 hours a day. Exercise has been shown to reduce the risk for nearly every major disease and to help fight anxiety and depression.
05. Working when sick: 3 common-sense reasons to stay home: avoid spreading the infection, you'll be less productive, and you need your rest to get better.
06. Skipping annual medical checkups: Depending on age, family history, and lifestyle, a comprehensive medical checkup and special screenings is recommended every 1 to 5 years.

Eventually, something's going to give. If your patients keep burning the candle at both ends, the flame will burn out faster. But, if they maintain a healthy balance, they will be happier and healthier overall.

If we die tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of hours.

PLEASE! PLEASE! DO TAKE CARE OF YOUR HEALTH...

Inspirational --- 'Whatever You Give To Life, Life Gives You Back' !!!

A successful business man was growing old and knew it was time to choose a successor to take over the business.

Instead of choosing one of his Directors or his children, he decided to do something different. He called all the young executives in his company together.

He said, 'It is time for me to step down and choose the next CEO. I have decided to choose one of you. 'The young executives were shocked, but the boss continued. 'I am going to give each one of you a SEED today - one very special SEED. I want you to plant the seed, water it, and come back here one year from today with what you have grown from the seed I have given you. I will then judge the plants that you bring, and the one I choose will be the next CEO.'

One man, named Jim, was there that day and he, like the others, received a seed. He went home and excitedly, told his wife the story. She helped him get a pot, soil and compost and he planted the seed. Everyday, he would water it and watch to see if it had grown. After about three weeks, some of the other executives began to talk about their seeds and the plants that were beginning to grow.

Jim kept checking his seed, but nothing ever grew.

Three weeks, four weeks, five weeks went by, still nothing.

By now, others were talking about their plants, but Jim didn't have a plant and he felt like a failure.

Six months went by -- still nothing in Jim's pot. He just knew he had killed his seed. Everyone else had trees and tall plants, but he had nothing. Jim didn't say anything to his colleagues, however. He just kept watering and fertilizing the soil - He so wanted the seed to grow.

A year finally went by and all the young executives of the company brought their plants to the CEO for inspection.

Jim told his wife that he wasn't going to take an empty pot. But she asked him to be honest about what happened. Jim felt sick to his stomach, it was going to be the most embarrassing moment of his life, but he knew his wife was right. He took his empty pot to the board room. When Jim arrived, he was amazed at the variety of plants grown by the other executives. They were beautiful -- in all shapes and sizes. Jim put his empty pot on the floor and many of his colleagues laughed, a few felt sorry for him!

When the CEO arrived, he surveyed the room and greeted his young executives.

Jim just tried to hide in the back. 'My, what great plants, trees, and flowers you have grown,' said the CEO. 'Today one of you will be appointed the next CEO!'

All of a sudden, the CEO spotted Jim at the back of the room with his empty pot. He ordered the Financial Director to bring him to the front. Jim was terrified. He thought, 'The CEO knows I'm a failure! Maybe he will have me fired!'

When Jim got to the front, the CEO asked him what had happened to his seed - Jim told him the story.

The CEO asked everyone to sit down except Jim. He looked at Jim, and then announced to the young executives, 'Behold your next Chief Executive Officer!

His name is Jim!' Jim couldn't believe it. Jim couldn't even grow his seed.

'How could he be the new CEO?' the others said.

Then the CEO said, 'One year ago today, I gave everyone in this room a seed. I told you to take the seed, plant it, water it, and bring it back to me today. But I gave you all boiled seeds; they were dead - it was not possible for them to grow.

All of you, except Jim, have brought me trees and plants and flowers. When you found that the seed would not grow, you substituted another seed for the one I gave you. Jim was the only one with the courage and honesty to bring me a pot with my seed in it. Therefore, he is the one who will be the new Chief Executive Officer!'

* If you plant honesty, you will reap trust
* If you plant goodness, you will reap friends
* If you plant humility, you will reap greatness
* If you plant perseverance, you will reap contentment
* If you plant consideration, you will reap perspective
* If you plant hard work, you will reap success
* If you plant forgiveness, you will reap reconciliation

So, be careful what you plant now; it will determine what you will reap later.

'Whatever You Give To Life, Life Gives You Back'

We should give time to our loved ones as they do need us!

A man came home from work late, tired and irritated, to find his 5-year old son waiting for him at the door.

SON: 'Daddy, may I ask you a question?'
DAD: 'Yeah sure, what is it?' replied the man.
SON: 'Daddy, how much do you make an hour?'
DAD: 'That's none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?' the man said angrily.
SON: 'I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?'
DAD: 'If you must know, I make $50 an hour.'
SON: 'Oh,' the little boy replied, with his head down.
SON: 'Daddy, may I please borrow $25?'

The father was furious, 'If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I don't work hard every-day for such childish frivolities. '

The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door. The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy's questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money?

After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and started to think: Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $25.00 and he really didn't ask for money very often The man went to the door of the little boy's room and opened the door.

'Are you asleep, son?' He asked.
'No daddy, I'm awake,' replied the boy.
'I've been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier' said the man. 'It's been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here's the $25 you asked for.'

The little boy sat straight up, smiling. 'Oh, thank you daddy!' he yelled. Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills.

The man saw that the boy already had money, started to get angry again.

The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then looked up at his father.

'Why do you want more money if you already have some?' the father grumbled.

'Because I didn't have enough, but now I do,' the little boy replied.

'Daddy, I have $50 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you.'

The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little son, and he begged for his forgiveness.

It's just a short reminder to all of you working so hard in life. We should not let time slip through our fingers without having spent some time with those who really matter to us, those close to our hearts. Do remember to share that $50 worth of your time with someone you love.

If we die tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of hours.
One day I decided to quit... I quit my job, my relationship, my spirituality... I wanted to quit my life!

I went to the woods to have one last talk with God. "God", I said. "Can you give me one good reason not to quit?" His answer surprised me...

"Look around", He said. "Do you see the fern and the bamboo?"
"Yes", I replied.

"When I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds, I took very good care of them. I gave them light. I gave them water. The fern quickly grew from the earth. It's brilliant green covered the floor. Yet nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo. In the second year the fern grew more vibrant and plentiful. And again, nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo." He said. "In year three there was still nothing from the bamboo seed. But I would not quit. In year four, again, there was nothing from the bamboo see. I would not quit." He said. "Then in the fifth year a tiny sprout emerged from the earth. Compared to the fern it was seemingly small and insignificant...But just 6 months later the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall. It had spent the five years growing roots. Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive. I would not give any of my creations a challenge it could not handle." He said to me. "Did you know, my child, that all this time you have been struggling, you have actually been growing roots?" "I would not quit on the bamboo. I will never quit on you." "Don't compare yourself to others." He said. "The bamboo had a different purpose than the fern. Yet they both make the forest beautiful." "Your time will come", God said to me. "You will rise high" "How high should I rise?" I asked. "How high will the bamboo rise?" He asked in return.

"As high as it can?" I questioned "Yes." He said, "Give me glory by rising as high as you can." I left the forest and bring back this story. I hope these words can help you see that God will never give up on us.

He will never give up on us...
Meaning of the word Shawwaal: Uplift / Breakage.
The month Shawwal: From the months of Hajj, Shawwaal is the first of them. The first day of Shawwal is Eid-Ul-Fitr and also the day when sins are forgiven.

Before Islam, Arabs believed that any marriage held in Shawwaal would always turn out to be unsuccessful. Hence, the month deprived the above metioned meanings, however the superstitious belief was later abolished.

Six Fasts of Shawwal:

In the month of Shawwal it is Sunnah to keep six fasts, as narrated in the following Mafhoom of Hadith by Abu Ayyub Ansaru (Radi Allahu Anhu) that the Beloved Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala Alayhi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) has said, "If one throughout his life keeps the fasts of Ramadan and keeps six consecutive fasts in Shawwal it will be as though he has kept a whole life time of fasts, and if one keeps the six consecutive fasts for one Shawwal month it will be as though he has observed fast all year round."
Assalaam-o-Aalaikum-wa-Rahmatullahe-wa-Barakatuhu,

Wish you all a very Happy & Prosperous Eid Greeting as it is a reward for those who had been fasting and doing deeds that may get have changed their eternal life to best form. Just remember that there are other Muslim brothers and sisters in your surroundings that may need little help from you to celebrate this Holy occasion of happiness. Remember them and ALLAH PAK never leave you left behind, inshaALLAH.

Eid ul Fitr Meaning

Eid is an Arabic word which means festivity and Fitr means “to break the break,” therefore it marks the breaking of the fast and staying away from all the evil habits.

Sunnats On Eid ul Fitr

One is to eat before going to the salah (prayer) for Eidul Fitr, but not do so on the occasion of the Eid ul Adhha (commemorating Prophet Ibrahim's sacrifice). For Eidul Fitr, it is a sunnah to eat an odd number of dates before going to pray salatul Eid (Eid Prayer) while for Eidul ul Adhha the eating should be delayed until one returns from the Eid prayers and then he may eat of his sacrifice if he has sacrificed an animal.

Hazrat Anas: "The Prophet would not go out on the Eid ul Fitr until he had eaten an odd number of dates." This Mafhoom is related by Ahmad and al-Bukhari.

Hazrat Buraidah: "The Prophet would not go out on the day of breaking the fast (Eidul Fitr) until he had eaten and on the day of sacrifice (Eidul ul Adhha) he would not eat until he had returned [from salah]." This Mafhoom is related by at-Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah.

Method of Eid Prayer

Eid prayer consists of two units of prayer (Rakas) with six Takbeers (the raising of the hands while saying Allahu Akbar [God is the Greatest]) in congregation, followed by the Khutba (sermon) of Eid.

• Follow the Imam by raising both hands up to the ears, say Allahu Akbar, this is the first Takbeer to enter in the Salat
• Then fold your hands in the front and recite the ‘Sanaa', ("subhaanakallahumma..). till the end, and
• Then say Allahu Akbar thrice, following you imam, each time raising both hands up to the ears and dropping them. After each takbeer there is going to be a slight pause in which Subhanallah recited thrice
• After the third Takbeer the hands should be folded in front and listen to the imam reciting Aoozubillah, Bismillah, Surah Fateha and some other Surah and
• Then perform Ruku (bowing) as Imam says Allahu Akbar and
• Then go to Sajdah (prostration) as usual following your Imam's Takbeer
• In the second Raka, the Imam will first recite Surah Fateha and some other Surah. Then he will say three Takbeers after it. In all of these three Takbeer's hands will not to be folded but dropped after each Takbeer. And
• Then go into the Ruku just after the fourth takbeer
• Listening to the Khutba after the Eid Salat is Waajib (obligatory)

Keep me in your prayers!

7 Tips to Improve UR Relationship with the Qur'an

ARE you one of those people who rarely touch the Qur'an? Or do you read daily, but don't find it is having the impact on you that it should? Whatever the case may be, these are some simple tips that can help you connect with the Qur'an.

1. Before you touch it, check your heart. The key to really benefiting from the Qur'an is to check your heart first, before you even touch Allah's Book. Ask yourself, honestly, why you are reading it. Is it to just get some information and to let it drift away from you later? Remember that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was described by his wife as a "walking Qur'an": in other words, he didn't just read and recite the Qur'an, he lived it.

2. Do your Wudu (ablution). Doing your Wudu is good physical and mental preparation to remind you that you're not reading just another book. You are about to interact with God, so being clean should be a priority when communicating with Him.

3. Read at least 5 minutes every-day. Too often, we think we should read Qur'an for at least one whole hour. If you aren't in the habit of reading regularly, this is too much. Start off with just five minutes daily. If you took care of step one, InshaALLAH (God willing), you will notice that those five minutes will become 10, then half an hour, then an hour, and maybe even more!

4. Make sure you understand what you've read. Five minutes of reading the Qur'an in Arabic is good, but you need to understand what you're reading. Make sure you have a good translation of the Qur'an in the language you understand best. Always try to read the translation of what you've read that day.

5. Remember, the Qur'an is more interactive than a CD. In an age of "interactive" CD-ROMs and computer programs, a number of people think books are passive and boring. But the Qur'an is not like that. Remember that when you read the Qur'an, you are interacting with Allah. He is talking to you, so pay attention.

6. Don't just read; listen too. There are now many audio cassettes and CDs of the Qur'an, a number of them with translations as well. This is great to put on your walkman or your car's CD or stereo as you drive to and from work. Use this in addition to your daily Qur'an reading, not as a replacement for it.

7. Make Dua (supplication) . Ask Allah to guide you when you read the Qur'an. Your aim is to sincerely, for the love of Allah, interact with Him by reading, understanding and applying His blessed words. Making Dua to Allah for help and guidance will be your best tool for doing this.

May ALLAH showers all of you with blessing and, wish you all a very spiritual and healthy month of Ramadan.

Ramadan is fast approaching and I take this opportunity to wish all Muslim the best in Ramadan and as it is a month of ibadah & forgiving, I wish to extend my sincere apologies to anybody directly or indirectly that have been insulted by my words and/or any of the postings I fowarded. May ALLAH showers all of you with blessing.

Wish you all a very spiritual and healthy month of Ramadan.

Ramadan is the month on the Islamic lunar calendar during which Muslims abstain from food, drink and other sensual pleasures from break of dawn to sunset. The fast is performed to learn discipline, self-restraint and generosity, while obeying God's commandments. Fasting (along with the declaration of faith, daily prayers, charity, and pilgrimage to Mecca) is one of the "five pillars" of Islam. Because Ramadan is a lunar month, it begins about eleven days earlier each year.

Who Must Fast?

» Fasting is compulsory for those who are mentally and physically fit, past the age of puberty, in a settled situation (not travelling), and are sure fasting is unlikely to cause real physical or mental injury.

Exemptions From Fasting

(some exemptions are optional)
» Children under the age of puberty (Young children are encouraged to fast as much as they are able.)
» People who are mentally incapacitated or not responsible for their actions
» Those who are too old to fast
» The sick
» Travellers who are on journeys of more than about fifty miles
» Pregnant women and nursing mothers
» Women who are menstruating
» Those who are temporarily unable to fast must make up the missed days at another time.

Special Events

» Special prayers, called taraweeh, are performed after the daily night-time prayer.
» Lailat ul-Qadr ("Night of Power" or "Night of Destiny") marks the anniversary of the night on which the Prophet Muhammad first began receiving revelations from God, through the angel Gabriel. Muslims believe Lailat ul-Qadr is one of the last odd-numbered nights of Ramadan.

Traditional Practices

» Breaking the daily fast with a drink of water and dates
» Reading the entire Qur'an during Ramadan (For this purpose, the Qur'an is divided into 30 units.)
» Social visits are encouraged.

Eid ul- Fitr ("Festival of Fast-Breaking")

Prayers at the End of Ramadan

» Eid begins with special morning prayers on the first day of Shawwal (Expected January 19, 1999*), the month following Ramadan on the Islamic lunar calendar, and lasts for three days.
» It is forbidden to perform an optional fast during Eid because it is a time for relaxation.
» During Eid Muslims greet each other with the phrase "Eid Mubarak" (eed-moo-bar-ak), meaning "blessed Eid" and "taqabballah ta'atakum," or "may God accept your deeds."

Demographers say Islam is one of the fastest growing religions in this country and around the world. There are an estimated 6 million Muslims in America and some 1.2 billion worldwide.

N.B. Because the beginning of Islamic lunar months depends on the actual sighting of the new moon, the start and end dates for Ramadan may vary.

EID-UL-ADHA (THE FEAST OF SACRIFICE IN ISLAM)

Eid-Ul-Adha (a.k.a. the Feast of Sacrifice or Day of Sacrifice) is observed after the Hajj -- the annual pilgrimage to Makkah (Mecca) in Saudi Arabia.

A duty of each Muslim, as described in the Five Pillars of Islam, is to go on Hajj at least once once during their lifetime, unless they are prevented by finances or ill health. "The Hajj consists of several ceremonies, meant to symbolize the essential concepts of the Islamic faith, and to commemorate the trials of prophet Abraham and his family...The pilgrimage also enables Muslims from all around the world, of different colors, languages, races, and ethnicities, to come together in a spirit of universal brotherhood and sisterhood to worship the One God together."

It is the second of the two major Muslim holy days. The other is Eid-ul-Fitr which follows Ramadan -- a lunar month of partial fasting.

Other names for Eid al-Adha:

Eid-ul-Adha (Adha Eid) has other popular names across the Muslim world, such as Eid el-Kibir in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt and Libya; Tfaska Tamoqqart in the Berber language of Jerba; and Tabaski or Tobaski in some parts of Africa; Babbar Sallah in Nigeria and West Africa; Ciidwayneey in Somalia and Somali speaking regions of Kenya and Ethiopia.

In India and Pakistan it is also called Bakra Eid (literally "Goat Eid"), where the goat is the animal most likely to be sacrificed. In Bangladesh it is called either ঈদ-উল-আজহা Id-ul-Azha or কোরবানী ঈদ Korbani Id. In South Africa it is also called Bakri Eid (or simply Bakrid in India). The Indonesian term is Idul Adha.

In Turkey it is often referred to as the Kurban Bayramı or "Sacrifice Feast". Similarly, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania and Bulgaria it is referred as Kurban Bajram. In Kazakhstan, it is referred to as Qurban Ait. In Kurdish it is called Cejna Qurbanê[1]. In Afghanistan it is called "Eid-e-Qurban" by Dari-speakers and "Loy Akhtar" (literally, "Big Eid") or "Qurbanay Akhtar" by Pashto-speakers. This Eid is for 4 days. Also known as the bigger Eid because it is a day longer than Eid-ul-Fitar.

When is it celebrated?

Eid-Ul-Adha is observed after the conclusion of the Hajj. The first day of this celebration is held on the 10th day of Duhl-Hijja, which is the last month of the Muslim year. In most areas, the Feast of Sacrifice is celebrated over several days.

Islamic months begin at sunset on the day when the lunar crescent appears after the new moon, and can be sighted by the unaided eye . "Visibility depends on a large number of factors including weather condition, the altitude of the moon at sunset, the closeness of the moon to the sun at sunset, the interval between sunset and moonset, atmospheric pollution, the quality of the eyesight of the observer, use of optical aids etc." 3 As a result, although the phases of the moon can be predicted accurately, the moon's visibility at a given place on Earth cannot be estimated in advance. Thus, the feast day has always been celebrated on different days in various areas of the world.

Its significance:

"The celebration of Eid-Ul-Adha is in commemoration of the command give by Allah to Prophet Abraham (may Allah be pleased with him) to sacrifice his first born son Ishmael to Him. The fulfilment [sic] of this noble command of Allah by Abraham signifies his faith in Allah...."

Its activities:

"Eid-Ul-Adha is a day of remembrance. Even in the most joyful times, the Muslim makes a fresh start of the day by a session of congregational prayers to Allah in an open space. Muslims use the occasion to pray to Allah and to glorify His name to demonstrate the remembrance of His grace and favours. Muslims also remember the deceased by praying for their souls to rest in peace. The needy and vulnerable in society are also remembered by showing them sympathy and consolation."

Muslims around the world celebrate

"this feast of commitment, obedience and self-sacrifice to Allah. They wear their nicest clothing and attend Salatul-Eid (Eid Prayer) in the morning. This is followed by a short sermon, after which everyone socializes. Next, people visit each other's homes and partake in festive meals with special dishes, beverages, and desserts. Children receive gifts and sweets on this happy occasion. In addition, like the pilgrims in Makkah (Mecca), the Muslims, who can afford to do so, offer domestic animals, usually sheep, as a symbol of Ibrahim's sacrifice."

Some of the meat is given to the poor -- often one third. The rest is shared among the family, relatives and friends.

In addition, Eid-Ul-Adha is a time when Muslims pray for forgiveness from God and strength of faith. They, in turn, forgive others, releasing any feelings of enmity or...

Sunnats On Eidul Fitr

One is to eat before going to the salah (prayer) for Eidul Fitr, but not do so on the occasion of the Eid ul adhha (commemorating Prophet Ibrahim's sacrifice). For Eidul fitr, it is a sunnah to eat an odd number of dates before going to pray salatul Eid (eid prayer) while for Eidul adha the eating should be delayed until one returns from the Eid prayers and then he may eat of his sacrifice if he has sacrificed an animal.

Hazrat Anas: "The Prophet would not go out on the Eid ul Fitr until he had eaten an odd number of dates." This is related by Ahmad and al-Bukhari.

Hazrat Buraidah: "The Prophet would not go out on the day of breaking the fast (Eidul fitr) until he had eaten and on the day of sacrifice (Eidul adhha) he would not eat until he had returned [from salah]." This is related by at-Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah.

Method of Eid prayers

Eid prayer consists of two units of prayer (Rakas) with six Takbeers (the raising of the hands while saying Allahu Akbar [God is the Greatest]) in congregation, followed by the Khutba (sermon) of Eid.

• Follow the Imam by raising both hands up to the ears, say Allahu Akbar, this is the first Takbeer to enter in the Salat.
• Then fold your hands in the front and recite the ‘Sanaa', ("subhaanakallahumma..). till the end, and
• Then say Allahu Akbar thrice, following you imam, each time raising both hands up to the ears and dropping them. After each takbeer there is going to be a slight pause in which Subhanallah may be recited thrice.
• After the third Takbeer the hands should be folded in front and listen to the imam reciting Aoozubillah, Bismillah, Surah Fateha and some other Surah and
• Then perform Ruku (bowing) as Imam says Allahu Akbar and
• Then go to Sajdah (prostration) as usual following your Imam's Takbeer.
• In the second Raka, the Imam will first recite Surah Fateha and some other Surah. Then he will say three Takbeers after it. In all of these three Takbeer's hands will not to be folded but dropped after each Takbeer. And
• Then go into the Ruku just after the fourth takbeer.
• Listening to the Khutbah after the Eid Salaat is Waajib (obligatory).

The Islamic calendar or Muslim calendar (Arabic: التقويم الهجري; at-taqwÄ«m al-hijrÄ«; Persian: تقویم هجری قمری Gāhshomāri-ye Hejri; also called the Hijri calendar) is the calendar used to date events in many predominantly Muslim countries, and used by Muslims everywhere to determine the proper day on which to celebrate Islamic holy days. It is a lunar calendar having 12 lunar months in a year of about 354 days. Because this lunar year is about 11 days shorter than the solar year, Islamic holy days, although celebrated on fixed dates in their own calendar, usually shift 11 days earlier each successive solar year, such as a year of the Gregorian calendar. Islamic years are also called Hijra years because the first year was the year during which the Hijra occurred— Muhammad's emigration from Mecca to Medina. Thus each numbered year is designated either H or AH, the latter being the initials of the Latin anno Hegirae (in the year of the Hijra).

The Islamic calendar is the official calendar in countries around the Gulf, especially Saudi Arabia. But other Muslim countries use the Gregorian calendar for civil purposes and only turn to the Islamic calendar for religious purposes.

The Islamic week is derived from the Jewish week, as was the medieval Christian week, all of which have numbered weekdays in common. All three coincide with the Saturday through Friday planetary week. The Islamic and Jewish weekdays begin at sunset, whereas the medieval Christian and planetary weekdays begin at the following midnight. Muslims gather for worship at a Masjid at noon on "gathering day", which corresponds to the sixth day of the Jewish and medieval Christian weeks, and to Friday of the planetary week.

We Muslims, are followers of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), right? What better example of patience do we have than that of our own blessed Prophet himself?

What happens to us physiologically when we are angry?

Our heart beats rate and blood pressure go up; this is a direct effect of excessive adrenalin in our system. Our physical strength increases although spiritual strength decreases. Our intellect or power to reason disappears, and things we would not justify in a normal state become acceptable.

How can we defeat anger?

To root out anger is impossible and unnatural, and may even be harmful. But what we should do is to control this feeling and do not let it lead us to what's wrong and forbidden in our religion (Islam).

Firstly I advise you to avoid too much sensitivity that makes you "deaf, dumb and mute."

Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) had advised us that when angry, one should try to change his body position. Meaning, if you're standing up, sit down, and if you're sitting down stand up. If this didn't work, then go and wash and get prepared for praying.

When you're angry, think of Allah. Think of Allah's anger and punishment. Is Allah's wrath less than your wrath? And what happens when He expresses His wrath? We humans who seek forgiveness from Allah must forgive others first. When one forgives someone else, it establishes peace and tranquility in one's heart.

The first attribute of Allah that we Muslims are reminded (of) is Ar Rahman-Ar Rahim that is, Kind and Merciful. God Himself said, my mercy overtakes my wrath, and He told in one of the Hadith Qudusi, 'O son of Adam, when you get angry, remember Me." Thus, remembrance of God and meditation will put us on the right track. One of the meditation words is ya Halim (Patient), which is one of the attributes of God, being the Mild One. One can also pray to God to take control. We must also think that our life that is so dear to us, is a temporary life, and we must not forget our death and destroy the life of eternity at the cost of this life. Washing one's face with cold water or taking a cold shower is also helpful.

That is how the saying, "turn the other cheek" came about. One will become a calm person when he makes peace with himself, Allah and his surroundings. Anger is a costly weed; it costs one his health, life in this world, and the life in the Hereafter. This weed must be rooted out to allow the healthy plant of righteousness, piety and obeying Allah nurture and grow. Also anger is one of the weapons of Satan, we should be careful that we do not fall prey to his weapons, rather we should protect ourselves by being patient.

01. Evaluate your current job satisfaction. Keep a journal of your daily reactions to your job situation and look for recurring themes. Which aspects of your current job do you like/dislike? Are your dissatisfactions related to the content of your work your company culture or the people with whom you work?

02. Assess your interests, values and skills through self help resources like the exercises in What Colour is Your Parachute. Review past successful roles, volunteer work, projects and jobs to identify preferred activities and skills.

03. Brainstorm ideas for career alternatives by discussing your core values/skills with friends, family, networking contacts and counselors. Visit career libraries and use online resources like those found in the Career Advice section of the Job Search website.

04. Conduct a preliminary comparative evaluation of several fields to identify a few targets for in depth research.

05. Read as much as you can about those fields and reach out to personal contacts in those arenas for informational interviews.

06. Shadow professionals in fields of primary interest to observe work first hand. Spend anywhere from a few hours to a few days job shadowing people who have jobs that interest you. Your college Career Office is a good place to find alumni volunteers who are willing to host job shadowers.

07. Identify volunteer and freelance activities related to your target field to test your interest e.g. if you are thinking of publishing as a career, try editing the PTA newsletter. If you're interested in working with animals, volunteer at your local shelter.

08. Investigate educational opportunities that would bridge your background to your new field. Consider taking an evening course at a local college. Spend some time at one day or weekend seminars. Contact professional groups in your target field for suggestions.

09. Look for ways to develop new skills in your current job which would pave the way for a change e.g. offer to write a grant proposal if grant writing is valued in your new field. If your company offers in-house training, sign up for as many classes as you can.

10. Consider alternative roles within your current industry which would utilize the industry knowledge you already have e.g. If you are a store manger for a large retail chain and have grown tired of the evening and weekend hours consider a move to corporate recruiting within the retail industry. Or if you are a programmer who doesn't want to program, consider technical sales or project management.

The Relationship Between Motivation and Talent

Hydrogen and oxygen are distinctly different elements, but sometimes they combine to form water. Something similar is true for motivation and talent.

Motivation is what we LIKE to do naturally. Talent is what we DO well naturally. They can exist independently, but when they combine, they create something special. They create motivated talents.

People often are naturally good at something (talented), but it just doesn’t turn them on. For example, Heather is good with numbers, but she doesn’t go out of her way to find tasks calling for that talent. Most people have such talents. But then there are those talents that we really enjoy using. These are the motivated talents, and this is where the magic is.

We use motivated talents every chance we get. Most of the time we don’t even think about it. For example, Larry has a motivated talent for conversation, and he naturally engages both friends and strangers in dialog. He doesn’t consciously determine to do so; it just happens. It’s natural and unforced. He enjoys it, and he’s good at it. That’s the hallmark of a motivated talent.

Motivated talents tend to be irrepressible. They find expression.
In fact, if you’ve ever tried to stifle a motivated talent (either yours or someone else’s) it probably felt like you were trying to hold two dozen ping pong balls under water at the same time.
Motivated talents pop out, even if no one else is asking for them.
And doesn’t that make sense? After all, it’s what we do well AND enjoy...

WORMS crawling, eating, biting looking squirmy
Tearing away the flesh that I adore
My fingers are pretty no more.
The worms take my fingers for meat!
Biting, tearing my flesh and deter "Allah! What did I do wrong?
Why are the worms so strong?"
Then an inner voice said to me
"O Muslim, this is your tragedy.
You wasted your fingers on deeds sinfully.
You spread rumours and forwarded tall tales.
Your fingers typed in insults towards our Muslim scholars.
You hurt their feelings and harassed the others.
You designed a web page to insult Islam.
You come in all ready for sensations.

Six Fasts in the Month of Shawwal.

It is commendable to keep six fasts in the month of Shawwal. The Prophet, Sall-Allahu Alayhi WA Sallam, has said:
Mafhoom "Whoever completes fasts of Ramadan then adds to them the fast of six days in the month of Shawwal, it will carry the thawab (reward) of fasting for the whole year." (Sahih Muslim)

Also, Thawban, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that the Prophet (PBUH) said, Mafhoom "Fasting Ramadan is equal to fasting ten months, and fasting six days of Shawwal is equal to two months. This is equal to fasting the whole year." (Ahmad & An-Nasaii)

Therefore, fasting six days in Shawwal after having fasted Ramadan will attain the person the reward of a perpetual fast, and more.

Furthermore, fasting Ramadan, with belief and sincerity, erases all previous sins, as the authentic Hadiths state. The ones who have performed the fast are given this bounty at the end of Ramadan in Eid, which is the day of rewards. Therefore, fasting again after being given this great bounty serves as an act of thanking Allah Subhana Wa TaAla (SWT), because no bounty is greater than having your sins forgiven.

As for those who revert to their old evil ways after Ramadan has passed, then they are indeed the losers. They loose Allah (SWT)'s bounty and they do not thank Him for anything. Also, the good deeds that are performed in Ramadan do not stop after the month ends, but they can still be performed as long as the person is alive and breathing.

Fasting after Ramadan is like the warrior who attacks and withdraws, only to attack again. This is unlike the coward who withdraws and runs away from the battlefield. Many people today are most happy when Ramadan ends, because they see it as a burden on them and a task that one has to do and that there is no way out of it. Anyone with such a mentality and attitude will not be eager to fast again shortly after Ramadan ends. On the other hand, the person who fasts again right after Ramadan will be demonstrating his will and eagerness to fast for Allah (SWT)'s sake and his need to acquire Allah (SWT)'s pleasure.

PS: The clocks will be set back an hour in about a week, so there really isn't much of an excuse to not fast since the days will be much shorter! Tawfiq, insha'Allah
---
Our Beloved Messenger, Allah (SWT) bless him and give him peace, is reported to have said: Mafhoom "The invocation of any one of you is granted [by Allah (SWT)] as long as he does not show impatience by saying "I have invoked Allah (SWT) but my request has not been answered." (Sahih al-Bukhari, Muslim)

"Our Lord! Give us in this world that which is good and in the Hereafter that which is good, and save us from the torment of the Fire!" (The Holy Qur'an 2:201)
Ameen!

The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has said: "The month of Ramadhan comes to you. This is a blessed month" (Kitab-ul-Saum). The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has declared this month as the "month of Allah" because one abandons all otherwise "lawful" things in the way of Allah. He has also declared this month as the "Chief of the months." Worship during this month gains more blessings so one should fast with sincere intentions and worship should be performed to win Allah's pleasure.
• May this Ramadan be one we benefit fully from and whereby we increase in emaan and taqwa, ameen.
• May our acts of worship multiply abundantly ameen. May we increase in righteous actions, and do good deeds sincerely for Allah Alone, ameen.
• May our character become beautified, may our hearts become connected upon this haqq and we fulfill each others rights with happiness, ameen.
• May we be saved from the punishment of the fire, and enter Paradise, ameen. May Allah forgive us of our sins and have mercy on us all, ameen.

Please also remember to make Dua for all our Muslim brothers and sisters facing difficulty around the world. Iftaar time is the best time for your Duas to be accepted. Don't count how many different savouries & cakes are on the table, but count your blessings for all the favours Allah'Tala has given you and think how the destitute are struggling around the world tonight and every night, AMEEN.
