So ... anyway, I'm working another character through a set of prompts (much easier to flesh them out than the standard character questionaire, right?) and well ... I've come to the conclusion that while the word 'sex' itself is fairly obvious (and the writings almost never wind up being about sex), other perfectly innocent words will bring the raunch right on. "ears" for example, or "hair" ... the latter got me a little over a full page.

Is it the characters in my head, or just me in my head, or is it just a guy thing in general? Because what came out certainly was NOT what I'd intended with those prompts.

Desperation, cuz these are characters I DON'T have in Poser format ... uninstalled and reinstalled DAZ ... EVERYTHING opens up, so I re-save a couple things.

Works dandy till I reboot my computer. Now, nothing opens up ... I changed NOTHING from the reinstall to the reboot. WTF??

This has been posted on the bug report link at Daz's website, but no response yet. Anybody got suggestions? I'm up for ideas. (although, I do have the biggies I was looking for exported to Poser, but ... I'd like to know what the heck's going on?

This is kinda how I went into it the first time, and turned out a little over 25K words of complete and total garbage. Last year, I had a plan, and it all went up in the air ... but I got 50,319 words. Sadly, again, it was mostly crap.

My characters all got away from me, and the whole story went in a totally unplanned direction. I've been told that means I need to focus more, but I'm not sure about that ... Focus was there, writing got done, and when I looked at it, it was so not what I'd planned on writing. Seems I have no control over the characters in my head ... Don't know why that should be any different than the rest of my life

Why is it if you have a mortgage and a home equity loan from the same creditor, the two divisions can't talk to each other? The mortgage department was able to find me for the foreclosure, but the collections attorney can't be bothered and instead sent everything to the old house. He didn't KNOW the house was in foreclosure? Come on, people!

Anyway, judgement has been found against me and the ex, and wages shall be garnished ... I'm not arguing that we owe the money, but ... if he'd bothered to get the correct addresses, maybe something could have been worked out?

But ... the long and the short of it is ... garnishing my wages will leave me without enough money to pay my bills. So, I'm not seeing much in the way of options here. I don't WANT to do this, but it's not like my credit can get much worse than it is. And if it'll stop the "Surprise! You owe us thousands of dollars!" letters, maybe it's the right thing to do right now?

I have info on gimping the car along for a while, but I really do need to save up for a radiator, as soon as I finish paying for the alternator.

Got a collections notice/official court notification about an equity loan that I totally forgot about during the foreclosure of the house. Well, I'm supposed to pull 8 grand out of my ass, apparently, or they've got permission to garnish my wages. Peachy, yeah? Problem is, the attorney was sending the info to the house address, where no one's lived for 2 years, maybe 3 now. So ...

I'm getting together stuff to stick on Etsy, but can't find my freaking camera to get pictures! Nobody's gonna buy things sight unseen, and my cell phone takes HORRIBLE pictures ...

Going to bed now. Maybe I should just start drinking when I wake up?

Whoever invented that WinPC AntiVirus crap needs to be drawn and quartered! I swear it installed itself. I KNOW Better than to click the stupid links/messages/etc. And yet, there it was. Shut off my antivirus, shut off my malware scanner, killed my email at one point.

After battling it all of last week, I think it was Saturday my computer gave me that blue screen (y'know, the windows screen that says your computer can't boot?), but it also gave me an option of letting the computer try to fix itself. At that point, what's left to lose?

End result is, my computer restored it's own settings (I tried that, didn't work) to about a week ago, which would be before the virus invaded. All scans turn up nothing.

Is it just me, or is it odd that the computer has to die to heal itself?

But ... recently I've been thinking of getting them back out - just to play around, do stupid things, and see what happens. Then, just last week, I bought this book that did. Some of the techniques themselves are so easy, it was kind of that smack to the forehead thing, y'know? But ... if you're gonna do watercolors, you have to have paper, right? Knowing I had a half a pad around here from before, it only took me most of the week to find it. (between paychecks, no money, etc etc ... you know the drill) The rest of making it look good is going to take PRACTICE. Maybe I can expand my attention and actually do enough to make them work and look good?

So ... if you go into my scrapbook, there's 2 pictures of my progress thus far, and I can already see where I need to change things for next time. Next time, though, I think I'll skip the landscape and try something adventurous. No idea what, so you'll have to wait and see like I am

Other new stuff ... well, old stuff, really. In the process of looking for my watercolor paper, I found some old magazine articles I'd saved from a doll making magazine on how to carve/model fairies. I'd saved them to SOMEDAY see if I could come up with something half that good in sculpey. I'm thinking now's the time. The sculpey has been sitting under my desk, neglected, for far too long. Maybe it's an inner child thing, but there's something about squishing clay around that's very enjoyable.

Still no car, but then it's hard to find one when all you have is $350 saved up. Need to find someplace close that sells bus tokens so I can at least stop trying to bribe my way into a ride home.

Called the landlord on a house he's got for rent down around the corner from me. It's on a major street, but there's room enough in the driveway to turn around, it's a cute little house with new windows, new doors, and a new roof, along with a basement. (WOah ... Storage that isn't closets ready to explode from all the crap in them!) Sadly, it's out of the budget. It's about $200 more than the apartment. So ... here I stay. Fortunately, it's a decent apartment, just kinda small, y'know?

Anyway ... time to get dressed and get to work. Bleh.

Feed your scraps, people. When you're happy with it as it stands, it's a deviation. When it still needs fixing, it's a scrap. At least that's my standard. I could overwork a piece real easy, as I'm sure we all could, but ... if it's not GLARING problems, I tend to call it done. If it needs something big, it goes in scraps until I fix it.

And watch other people's scraps, too. You'll find some real gems sometimes, hiding in there until they're finished and ready to be released on the world.

So I'm trying to go through my deviations that have backed up on me, but I can't get to any page but the first one, and sometimes not even that. I click on "Next Page", and it goes back to the first page which is 2 deviations, 2 news articles, 4 journals, a reply to something, and recent activity. I can click on either of the deviations, and they come up for a second or two, then go back to that main message page again.

Haven't filed a trouble report yet, but has anybody else encountered this?

Story in a nutshell - the headgasket blew again. First time was 5 years/47,000 miles ago, so I can't complain about the job at that time. But the heads were milled then, and my mechanic won't do it again. So ...

Right now, the general consensus is it's too damn cold to ride the bus. I'm inclined to agree, seeing as how I have no thermal underwear. I'm thinking a bus pass if I'm still carless when it warms up a little (below zero temperaturs this week - yowchers!), but until then I'm catching rides with family, friends, whoever can get me to work and home again.

So glad I'm not doing the tour of Dayton anymore. Still miss the dogs, but at this point ... I would be totally unable to take care of them if they hadn't froze to death in this weather.

Off to get father-type to take me to the laundromat.

The remnants of hurricane Ike came through this past Sunday (combined with a cold front from what I understand) and created all kinds of havoc! Over 200,000 people without power, and only about half are back up. I know other areas got hit worse, and well ... not being able to find gas is a minor inconvenience compared to having to figure out what to do with my food.

Not doing much in the way of art currently, because I have a character that is just defying any and all attempts to get him done. However, been working on some poses and such (you can see the ones for Maybe in my gallery). Any characters you'd like hands or expressions for?

Long story short - took my car for an oil change last Thursday, had them check the brakes cuz I acquired a new noise.

Verdict - front brake pads GONE, rotors - NEAR GONE

Friday - flat tire. I have road hazard warranty, but Wally world discontinued my tires. Oh, AND they're directional tread, so they don't play well with regular tires. Had to get a pair. Two tires

$50

NOW ... as I'm pulling up in front of the apartment buidling, I have this HORRIBLE metal-on-metal sound. Loud and screaming and everything. So ... having the car towed to the shop tomorrow. If it's brakes, the guys who did them can foot the bill. (but I don't think it is) It may be the heat shield on the exhaust - I heard it rattling around earlier.

Cross your fingers for no serious damage, cuz I am so broke it's not even funny!

*EDIT* And we are now up to $650 on the car ... the place that did my front brakes F-ed them up, and I had to have that fixed - $100

Yesterday, had to call a locksmith - the door lock broke. Now, for teh record, the other one's been broken for a while, I just couldn't afford to get it fixed. Well ... that was another $100

And, not car related, but I also sprained my ankle ... What the hell did I do to the universe to earn this??

2 - If you want to use it, contact me and let me know what you want to do with it. If you're here on dA, drop me a note. If you're not and you found me through one of my other pages, my email will soon be on everything so drop me an email and specify in the subject it's about using something of mine. Wouldn't want to think your message is spam, right?

3 - Commercial use - if it's an image, you can ask, but depending on which image the odds are the answer is no. I'm not making money at my art, but I'm willing to consider requests on a case by case basis. My poser files (which currently are few and far between), I can't stop you, but I do accept and encourage donations. There's a readme - read it, and my info is there.

4 - If it's a gift for you, do what you want. If it's a gift but not for you, contact the person it's for and ask them.

5 - I can't stop you from saving things to your hard drive, but I will ask that you not post it anywhere else online. If you want to share it with someone else, point them here.

Oh, and just because it's in scraps doesn't mean these rules don't apply. I'd ask you, and credit you, so please extend the same courtesy to me.


I don't think any of this is unreasonable, or hard to do. If you send me a message asking about using anything, and I don't get back to you soon enough, feel free to message me again. Please bear in mind, though, my schedule's pretty busy, so it may take me up to a week to answer.

Long reading, boring, but if you want to know what it says, there it is. Gonna chew on these myself today, see what I can find.

In the meantime, watermark EVERYTHING - put some means to contact you on your art so you can be found. I'm getting started on that myself, and I think it's a great idea. I've seen discussion on how you probably won't have the same email/website/what have you in 20 years, but if you put nothing, then you could potentially lose your claim without even trying.

And keep your WIP files - Nobody's going to get the same picture the same way. Well ... I suppose they could, but the odds are so astronomical as to be unbelievable.

Have you heard about this yet? If not, you should. This is an act that could potentially strip away your rights to your own art. Not a US citizen? Not sure that really matters. Some 17-year-old from Idaho could use your art without your permission for anything, all by saying he couldn't find you. (looking into what kind of proof they'd have to provide ... but stopping them is already hard enough)

I plan on doing some in-depth reading (*EDIT* I've been given some new sources to check out), but for now here's what I've found.

1 - READ THIS - Animation World Article - on page 3 is a snippet from a discussion between Brad Holland from Illustrators Partnership and David O. Carson, general counsel from the copyright office. What's said, short and sweet, is if you don't register an image, by default it's an orphaned work.

2 - American Society of Media Photographers outline of the Orphan Works bill (pdf file)

3 - - Library of Congress' report on the Orphan Works act - January, 2006 (pdf file found here)

4 - Latest word from the copyright office (boring read, but you want to know what's going on, right?) - [link]

Contact your elected officials and tell them what you think. Don't swear at them, because then you get dismissed. And watermark your stuff - name and email (and I swear I'll get better at this than I have been!) do you can be found.

Anyway ... Glad it's a new week. Last week a bit on my dad's car came loose and it was too cold to use epoxy to fix it. (and it would've come up and smacked the window at any speed over 10 mph) So .. take dad to work at 11 pm, pick him up at 6 am. Who needs sleep? This went on for four days.

Then ... on Tuesday, my mom fell at work and shattered her wrist. There was supposed to be surgery Wednesday morning, so I took time off work. Her partner would have been a basket case, and my brother was at work, so ...

Apparently the message never got from the ER to the doctor, so we spent Wednesday doing paperwork and her surgery was Thursday instead. One plate in her wrist and an hour and a half of surgery, and she'll be fine. She goes back this Thursday to get the stitches out. Oh, and vicodin (sp?) is her friend.

Now ... apparently the soon-to-be-ex (I've been calling him that for HOW long now?) wants me back IN the house as badly as he wanted me OUT of it last year this time. We've been over what it will take, and I don't think he's hearing me. At all. Maybe if I put it in an email so it's in black and white instead of in one ear and out the other?

Oh, and just to add insult to injury. Does anybody else read Kim Harrison's Hollows series? Almost done with "For a Few Demons More" ... what's with the killing off major characters? What's with killing off major character good guys? Dammit! I realize this is minor compared to everything else, but .. y'know?

Oh, and I turn 40 this year at the end of April. Whee. Think any of this will be halfways resolved by then?

The first crown sent back by the dental lab didn't fit, the second time they messed up the impressions, and the third time they said they never got the impressions. Now, the third appoinment was supposed to be last friday, but the dentist's office called me and said the crown wasn't in but that it would be in by today. Then Tuesday I get a call from the dentist's office that says the lab messed up the impressions again, so we'll have to take more. I get there today, I talk to the dentist and explain that driving 45 minutes to an appointment just to taste dental alginate again is really getting old. He sympathizes, of course, but this is out of his hands. I do understand, but I'm thinking the lab should pay for at least part of this crown by this point ... Right?

Of course, the lab told them yesterday that they never got ANY of the impressions I've done. Make up your minds, boys, cuz you made me one already, which you couldn't have done if you never got any of them ... how hard is it to make a damn mold, anyway?

So ... I've been having issues getting some things installed (including Poser 7 now that I've found my disc again - 6 I just copied off the old drive). The error message I get says something about the specified program (ie - whatever I'm installing) needs elevation.

I finally googled it.

Why didn't they just say "you need to be an administrator to run this"???

I killed mine a couple weeks ago in the process of cleaning it. Fortunately, I got a good deal on an HP Media center pc. Catch is, Windows Vista. Did you know they changed the format for the help files in Vista? I can't open any of my old help files for any of my software ... and some of it doesn't even run, even with the compatability thing checked.

Bleh. I'll adapt, just whining at the moment.
