I have neglected this account so much recently, so I have decided to spend a few hours P.S.'ing the timestamps out of a few of my favorite backpacking pictures...
On a side note, the Shootout Boulder was a lot of fun. We had been preparing the script and pre-production materials for about two months in advance for this one, so everything went smoothly. The only frustrating part was that our Panasonic DV-100's had this delay record option that would present itself at the most inopportune times. In a competition centered around linear shooting and in-camera editing, the unpredictable flaw was a real bitch to get around... Didn't make the Top Ten, but seeing the movies that won were a source of inspiration rather then depression. You can see the films that won at >> [link] << this link. The Boulder Shootout is a 24 hour film festival held in Boulder Colorado, near and on the Pearl Street Mall. I have participated in the 2006 shootout, creating the film "Karma's Revenge". Again I will be traipsing the streets of boulder in 10 days, 12 hours, 28 minutes, and 13 seconds in competition for the 2007 Boulder Shootout.

For those dedicated filmmakers out there, the rules are as stated:

"A 24 Hour Filmmaking Festival means:

You have 24 hours to make a short film\video happen, not 48 or 72 but a fast and furious 24 hours.
We leveled the playing field with NO editing allowed. Just pick up a camera and shoot. Proven and organized process that guarantees you will have fun!" -quote directly from the website listed below.

I must say that his competition is one of the most exciting projects in my career. It is extremely difficult to edit in-camera (shooting things in order, often rewinding back over another shot to smoothen the transitions).

The good news? There is none, I took another little backpacking trip a few weeks ago, but the pictures I took were so depressing I haven't even bothered getting them developed yet. Colorado is being hit hard by the Pine Beetle epidemic... I did not see one living pine tree during my trip through Arapaho National Forest, just lifeless husks, a mere shade of their former grandeur… Well… Posting new pictures up here is near the top of my weekend to-do list… Until then feel free to browse for new fractal art…

First: NEVER USE MAPQUEST!!! I downloaded the instructions from mapquest and they had me going around in circles around E 3RD ST / US-20... I found a dumpster about a hundred miles from mount Rushmore (in Lusk) that said "Mt. Rushmore This Way =>. It was odd because it was located in a residential area, so apparently I must not have been the only person to wonder around aimlessly, clutching my MapQuest printouts in anguish...
