I'm in my second year of a 4 year Journalism programme at Saint Thomas University in Fredericton, a city that is also home to the much larger University of New Brunswick.

My friend Drew got the position of Photo Editor for the Aquinian, which is the STU campus newspaper. I was going to shoot for him as a staff photographer until I was approached by the incoming Editor in Chief of The Brunswickan, the UNB campus paper. She informed that the position of Photo Editor was becoming vacant (she was the previous Photo Editor) and she felt that I should apply.

Summer has been too hot and too drunk. God damn humidity!!! On the plus side, we just had AC installed in my office... unfortunately, it only worked for the first day so now it's back to sweating from places I didn't know I could sweat from. But the out look is good, should have a new one kicking soon.

Haven't been doing much photography lately either... gonna get back to it as soon as I get a new lense and figure out why my camera is sketching out.

I'm supposed to do a wedding this weekend. A very good friend of mine is getting married. I was going to use my D70 digital SLR to shoot it.

Unfortunetaly, something has gone wrong with my lense. It's locks on me and I can't get it to zoom in or out. I don't understand why... but I don't have time to get it fixed before the wedding.

In anycase... the lense that came with the D70 is an 18 to 70. If I were to substitute it for my 28 to 80 lense from a Nikon F80... would I run into any problems... is there anything I should know???

Charlie is such a little trooper man. I think in her mind she's thinking "Fuck it.. I didn't need 4 legs anyway... that one was just slowing me down... now that I'm lighter and more aero-dynamic, no ones gonna beat me in a foot race." Although she still has a bit of trouble sometimes, she makes up for it in PILES of confidence.



It's pretty remarkable to see her really. We brought her for her first walk since she had the surgery, across the trainbridge in Fredericton. I don't even think anyone really noticed, and she most certainly didn't care. She had a good jog, but was probably a little tired by the end. All that hoppin'

In anycase, I wanted to once again thank everyone for supporting muh little tripod and helpin me keep my chin up. It was pretty hard for a while, which I'm sure any pet owner out there can completely understand.

Pics of my weird lookin' doggie to come as soon as the fur grows back around where there used to be a leg.

------ UPDATE

I GOT MY DOGGIE BACK!!!! Well... most of her anyway. The right back leg is just a memory to her now, and she's already learning how to deal quite well... she was up and down the stairs the second she got home, without even a second glance. To be honest, I think the lamp shade over her head to keep her from licking the wound is causing her more grief than the loss of a leg. Hopefully she'll heal quickly and we won't have to keep it on her all that long.

It's strange... they took everything. I mean, there is nothing left of her leg, whatsoever. I figured they were going to leave her with a stub or something... but the took the whole thing, leaving nothing of her leg at all. When it heals over and the fur grows back, I think it'll look like she never even had a leg to begin with. It's rather strange and not at all what I was expecting.

Anyway... more to come soon...

------ UPDATE

Charlie had her surgery and it went really well. The vet is keeping her for a day or two to keep an eye out for infections and to make sure she gets all the sleep that she needs right now in order to get her strength back and heal.

Turns out we did the right thing for sure. The cancer that the doctor had figured he removed about 99% of was already starting to grow back to the point where he didn't even need a microscope to see the reoccurence. Agressive little bug.

In any case... I'll update again when she gets home.

A few weeks ago, I brought my dog charlie to the vet. She had a lump on her back and this weird, bubbly thing growing on her back paw. The vet removed the lump, and it tested negative. Unfortunetaly, the bubbly thing growing on her paw turned out to be cancer. The vet told us that he was able to remove about 99% of the growth, but that it was cancer and that it was in the second of three stages. The second stage is very aggressive, but still very treatable. The only way that we could be certain Charlie would be alright is if we amputate her leg above the knee joint. It was a tough choice but...

... Charlie girl goes for her last four legged walk sometime later this evening. From there, I guess we'll just have to wait and see how she adapts.

I feel sad for my puppy. She's gonna go into the vet all happy (she actually likes the vet, he's pretty nice to her) and when she wakes up, she's going to realize that we took her leg. It's strange isn't it? She'll have absolutely no understanding. After nine years of having 4 legs, she'll wake up with three. Why? Where did the leg go? What is she going to understand when she tries to scratch the side of her head for the first time and there is nothing?

I just hope she understands on some level that we did it for her own good. My girl means the world for me.

On any clear night, look up in the sky and find the brightest bodies. If they are large and white, you are probably looking at Venus or Polaris. We are looking for something red here . . . oops, nope . . . that's the space station . . . look more that way . . . yep . . . see that unimpressive red star looking thing there . . . good . . . that's Mars.

That is just about how big Mars is going to get. Maybe a tad bigger when it makes its close approach in October, but never bigger or brighter than Venus. The global implications if Mars were to approach close enough to the earth to appear the size of the moon would be catastrophic. For those of you who can't consider said ramifications, picture the tsunami that recently occurred in the Indian Ocean. Now, imagine that happening everywhere at once, times a billion. This is what would happen if Mars were actually that close to us. That is, if we weren't thrown completely out of orbit and either froze because of our sudden increased distance from the sun or our slow burn because of our approach. If Mars were to be close enough to appear the size of the moon, it would have to move so far out of its own orbit that everything in the solar system would be thrown out of whack (for you religious folks, what this would mean, is that all of Gods careful planing and balancing of the solar system would be thrown off . . . and since god does not make mistakes, it's impossible, right?)

People...!!! Please!!! Stop getting upset when someone says something you don't agree with. It doesn't matter... it's not life or death my friends, it's just words. Have a sense of humor, learn how to take a joke, roll with a jab and throw one back. Don't let it get personal of course, but don't lose your mind over something you hear third party.

I'm in a great freakin' mood lately.

I've gone from 2300 hits to 6000 hits (just now) in less than a month. I give the Isabelle photos all of the credit they deserve. There should be some new pics up pretty soon here, but with exams and papers, there just isn't a huge pile of time. But that will all be done soon.

I mean, people use the bible to condemn homosexuals and other items considered plagues in society today. People take the bible and say "Marriage is between one man and one woman... the bible says so... homosexuals are sinners and they should not be allowed to marry because it says so in the bible." Well, by pointing out all of the other things it says in the bible, I'm hoping to help these people understand that you can't base the decisions you make and how you live your life in this day and age on rules and laws that were written over 1500 years ago. If you want to say that the bible proclaims gays can not marry and use the book to justify it, then you also have to use it to condone the beating of slaves and the stoning of women.

Hoodin is gettin' with it. And it's only gonna cost him about $1300.00 CDN after taxes.

That's right... $1300.00 CDN will include my brand new Nikon D70 digital SLR, a nice 17-70 lense, and of course a 1 gig memory card. That's a pretty unbeatable deal. I found myself quite the bargain, considering the photoshop downtown was asking $1588.00 before taxes, and that was without including a memory card.

Don't try to stop me... I'm fucking doin' it... see ya later regular film carrying SLR.

So yeah... Hoodin's goin' digital... I am the Matrix.

I'm gonna have to get out there and get some new shots soon. I've lost all my photographic inspiration and motivation as of late and it's just so farking cold outside. There was only one of my models who had the balls to take outdoor shots this time of year, and now she lives about 3000 KM away. 3000 Kilometers is approximately "1760 rods to the hogs head" for moronic Americans who can't realize how much sense the metric system makes. As much as this journal entry goes out to all Canadians, a nod to the Americans as well... it was a rough break for your team in the semi-final game against Russia, (for the 8 people in the US who even knew there was a tournament going on, in the US no less...) and we got those commie bastards back for you, as you requested. You folks had a much better team then the 4th place finish showed. It's a shame more people in your country don't support this tournament the way they should.
