Oh well, I'm feeling generous. Congrats to both ~Linnzy and =TariSaralonde .

So, I've not really got anything interesting to share with you.
Just ramblings that most people will ignore.

Have been on a bit of a Tolkien buying spree. XD
Most recent purchases: the song book, "Finn and Hengest", "Sigurd and Gudrun".
So far as the last two are concerned, I can say they're connected to my course.
Not sure what justification I'll think up for the first...
I've also finally got round to joining the Tolkien Society here. I'm currently skiving a meeting of it, because I don't want to wander round Emmanuel College in the dark getting lost.
Also, I am lazy. XD

I was bored the other day, and have casually designed another dress. It's got a lace layer, which I would have to make with embroidered net and possibly a bobbin lace trim.
Hmm.
I'll probably share the drawing at some point, after I've coloured it.
Of course, I have other things to finish first. _{Like essays...}

The nice lady I've been harassing all summer rang me back yesterday to say that I had a place.

Anyhows, as a present my Dad got me a tablet.
Is much fun. I spent some time tracing a Scottish Â£10 note with it earlier. XD

Well, in a couple of weeks it's back to the ole school.
UPPER SIXTH!!! I 'm not sure this is a particularly good idea, personally. Can't we have another year or so?
I mean, I have only 8 months to DOOM TIME.

Anyhows, panic attack over.
I'm kind of working on the Chase Dress, and kind of wondering why it has to be so complicated. I doubt it'll be up any time soon, as I'm not going to have much time, realistically, until next June.

Well, once I've got my lampshade trim finished I'll be getting back on with the overdress for Miriel No 2.

Now, summer awaits!

I've already had two updates, the first in ages it feels.
I think it must be moving everything out of my room for redecorating but I'm feeling very motivated to get on with dresses right now.
I think I'll be starting that blue one any day now...

Anyway, the evilness of lilac is finally being conquered by a more sensible colour (green). I won't need to scream everytime I wake up from now on.

Expect the unexpected, such as several more updates! And new directions, new peoples, new fabrics even.
Also, if at any point I start rambling about Irish songs blame the extended essay. ><

Hier soir, on Ã©tait aller au Radio France pour voir et Ã©couter CALi, mais les gens a fait grÃ¨ve et on est allÃ©s au cinÃ©ma.

Je n'ai pas achetÃ© des tissus fantsatiques, mais j'ai des livres de Terry Pratchett et Neil Gaiman en franÃ§ais pour l'ameliorer. J'ai achetÃ© aussi du Tintin et je les lis maintenant.

I've been in Paris since Sunday with my school.
It's a very beautiful city, but we visited all the expensive shops!

We went to Sacre-Coeur, Notre Dame and the Arc de Triomphe but also a Christian Lacroix exhibition so I have ideas to make more dresses.

We went to the cinema to see two films in English with French subtitles, which was a bad idea ini my opinion as we didn't read the French. Also, we saw a play - "ArrÃªte de Pleurer PÃ©nÃ©lope 2" or Stop Crying Penelope 2 - but I didn't understand it very well.
Last night we were going to go to Radio France to see and listen to CALi (a French singer, very famous I'm told) but the people working there were on strike so we went to the cinema.

I didn't buy any fancy fabrics, but I did get books by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett in French to help me improve. I also got more Tintin books, which I'm currently reading.

Je ne sais pas comment on dit "baccalaureat international" en Gaelg (c'est Manx, en manx. Je pense qu'on dit mannois pour manx en francais). Alors, je dois l'ecrire comme anglais.

J'ai fait le bac pendant trois semaines, et c'est plus difficile de GCSE. Il y a trop de travail! Je ne peux pas sortir. C'est triste.

Je dois lire/ecouter deux heures de francais chaque semaine, ainsi si vous savez des bonnes sites ecrivez-moi!

I've been doing the IB for 3 weeks and it's much more difficult than GCSEs. There's too much work. I'm not able to go out. It's sad.

I've been back from Leicester for a while, just not got round to telling you about it. The con was great! I'd recommend it to anyone, although it'd make more sense if you had an interest in anime/manga.

First thing for me to do is Miriel's dress. This is a creation in gold fabric with lots of embroidery. It might be a while before you see the end result.
Also on the list is a heraldic cloak and the SA travelling dress. I also found myself planning various other Mereth Aderthad dresses to use up my leftovers. After I've got Miriel done you'll have to watch this space!

Le weekend en Angleterre etait amusant. J'ai l'intention d'aller au un autre "convention" (je ne sais pas le mot en francais) mais je commence le bac en septembre alors j'aurai beaucoup de travail.

J'ai assez de robes et jusque deux semaines avant le retour au lycee, mais je voudrais faire deux ou trois robes.

I'm still alive! I was away for about 10 days in July, so that's why I went quiet for a while. I'm going away again tomorrow in the ungodly hours of the morning and will be back on Monday.

A Long-Expected Update.

Yes, the exams are over! It's holiday time!
Of course, it's great that everyone else's still at school. Losers!

Holidays means lots of free time to be making dresses. The End of Days dress will be up very soon, I'm just doing the finishing touches like joining the seams of the lower sleeves and hemming the whole shebang. Anyone who's seen my little page on Alleycatscratch's scrapbook (don't worry, I haven't seen it either yet) will be aware that I have plans to do at least two more travelling dresses, from the First and Second ages. I will be aquiring the necessary material sometime soon.

On that subject, one or two people are aware that I've got an "evil plan" on the go. I'm not going to be saying anything about it yet so that no one will be getting their hopes up. However, I will say that I;m facing the dilemma of buying necessary equipment from America and paying massive postage, buying something similar from the UK whihc is going to cost about the same but will leave me with one less of these important things or buying the version available in Douglas for extortionate amounts of money and ending up with an extra bit I don't especially want. Fun times, eh?

I've been meaning to mention it for a while, but my french teacher for this year is leaving to go to Brittany. He will be studying the decline of the Breton language, so everyone with an interest in Breton should watch out for him. Name of Lee Manning, should you want to know it.

Parce que je ne vais pas en France cette ete et parce que j'ai l'intention de prendre le francais pour le bac je vais ecrire un peu de mes 'journals' dans ce langue. J'espere qu'on peut comprendre!

GCSE's are almost over! Only three more left, the science extension papers. That's three lots of 45 minutes, you can do the maths as I'm free of it until September.

Exciting Updates

Well, I suppose that depends on your point of view. When I have found that amusing French answer I'll post it, I promise. Until then, you'll have to make do with more talk about dresses.

OK, my camera currently has no batteries. When Dad gets some new ones (seeing as he used them up he can pay, is my opinion) then there'll be quite a bit to put up in my gallery. I had some photos of the Starry cloak until the camera ate them, so I need to take some more. Also there's the mantle for the Mereth Aderthad dress and Eleniel's dress. I have plans to make a mantle to go with that, also to make at least two more travelling dresses and a random idea for a "four seasons" collection, a dress for each season. Other inspiration lately has come from a recent trawl through the internet looking for nice dresses and a weird fan-fiction story in my head.
As a result of the fan-fiction I have come up with designs for some male elven travelling clothes, which I intend to get started on as soon as I find some nice dolls to rehair/repaint. Thinking about it, I might leave off the repaint!

I still have yet to finish the End of Days dress, the shop was closed when I last dropped round that way so I couldn't pick up any more black material. I also need to decide whether I'm going to tat, crochet, buy or make in bobbin lace the trim for the Mereth Aderthad mantle, but that's not such a serious question at the moment.

Oh, and then there's also some "fan art" dresses, one of Daniel Govar's Luthien and one by someone on dA, who's done a nice design for Idril.

Yes, my friends, it is exam time. I had the first today, it was a latin exam. It wasn't actually too bad and I haven't had the usual "oh no! exams!" panic attack that arrives before serious exams. (internal exams just don't have the same fear factor)

I've written a highly amusing answer for a french past paper, which I will put up in a future journal. It really is hilarious, but I won't give any clues away.

While on study leave this morning i did some costume research on the internet, so be expecting some interesting new dress designs in scraps any time soon. I really must finish the End of Days dress too....

I've not really done anything with this account for ages! I'm sorry!
Here are my excuses:
Journals: Er, I'm too lazy? It's not even as though nothing interesting has been happening...

Art: Well, I ran out of black material and haven't been to buy some more yet, so the End Of Days dress is still unfinished. Term time is not a good time for dressmaking anyway, and then there're the exams coming up.

MSN: I have actually been online, just there doesn't seem to be anyone to talk to.

So, in the Embi-news today:
I have done my French Speaking test, seem to have survived and the presentation went ok. The only problem is that I managed to say "Samedi dernier....je retourne chez moi." STUPID! Still, it might look like it's something I do every week so I might get away with it.... maybe....

I have a hole in my foot, as a consequence of spending time with the RAF section of the CCF a week last Friday. It hurts and sometimes it oozes and my tights stick to my foot. Not fun.

I've got some plans of what I want to do in the garden, so after I've done my Latin translation I'll be off to see if I can do anything there.

My first exam this summer is on the 15th May, it is a latin exam. I am not looking forward to it, I'll have to learn all of the stuff I've not been learning.

Been out in the boat. I was thinking that the island looks so pretty, so I might be taking some photos for you to look at.

ok, i'm about four and a half days early but who cares? at 12:30 next wednesday i'm free to do as much revision, lying in bed, revision, gardening, revision, dressmaking, revision, writing, revision, listening to CDs, revision, bad drawings and revision as i wish.
a couple of weeks after we go back to school i have my first latin exam but before that are the french aurals. i'm a-gonna die!!!

i will probably post my french presentation on here for you all to respond to by asking me questions. it'll make great practise provided you aren't all asking "what makes you think such and such a bit is accurate french?"

in case people are wondering what the references at the top are, my friend lent me a book about figure drawing. it wasn't quite what i had been thinking of, i realy was wanting a book of models for poses etc. the effect of this book has been to make me depressed because i can't draw for cookies. i've just had a load of images for pieces that i could do, but they're all in the stylei call "realism", by which i mean that the people look like real people and the quality is similar to photography. this is not good because i know i'll never get good enough to do the mental images justice. it's so much easier to describe something in words than to draw it, i find.
i'll shut up now and stop you al from getting depressed like me.

joy, it's the most fun and lovely day of the year tomorrow! without meaning to depress anyone more than they might already be, i hate Valentine's day. everyone's so lovey-dovey and cuddled up and talking about their "true loves" and i want to hit them and say "well, let's see if you're singing the same tune next year!" ok, don't take my word for that spelling. it just doesn't look right.

ok, birthday was a lot of fun. i went out with ~chermione, ~jennythemusicmaker and ~Phoenix-Dragons (she's got a new account. no idea what it is...). i was wearing the fabulous dress thati had made up for my talk in english. any photos will go in scraps as i didn't make it myself. the one i intend to do over the summer will hopefully be a human-sized version of the Tirion Dress and Smoky Cloak. i won't bore you by bragging about my presents. they weren't all that insanely exciting,like the guitar i was randomly given last summer.

today it was finally so cold it was below freezing! funky! there was hail during the night and it was all over the garden with the frost and stuff. Patches was funny, we had the car engine running to defrost the windscreen and the exhaust gases were cloudy in the air. she ran away from the exhaust!
...it doesn't have to be funny...

yeah! teh AWESOMNESS! (i'm not actually that bothered, don't worry. sanity remains!) wait, sanity..... i have sanity...

unfortunately, i'm spending tomorrow wandering round various grey, metal boat things. on ccf field day. now that is awesomness
yeah, i will be visiting a fisheries protection vessel, a random navy ship and then doing god knows what as i don't think the command has thought that far. super.

also, today i did my english talk! OMG! it took about half an hour and was entirely without notes. fortunately i did tolkien, coz i can talk about it. then again, my class has just sdeen me admit to playing with barbie dolls!

Life returns to normal.

well, exams are over. just waiting for the results now.
i have to go to french soon. (random thought)

also, have been doing some preliminary choosing of IB options.
i think i'll go for french instead of starting spanish, french seems more useful at the moment .
i'll have to do two sciences, which means no art or music but at least i'll have a better chance of getting the job i want.

working hard to get the Council dress done for my English presentation. i've really really got to do the blouse too, just to get it out of the way.

anyhows, life continues until i probab;y recieve french results. so i'd better go.

UPDATE: did i mention that the weather's awful? hope everyone else is ok...

i've had too many journals for january, i'm going to cut down so that you don't all think i'm talking rubbish.

~chermione worked out for me that i'm doing 12 exams. most in the next four days (exluding the weekend). did one today, it was very easy. spent the rest of the day doing revision, even when i was supposed to be doing sport. yes, i'm a bad person. i played truant.
this is not a recommended activity. be aware of the consequences.
(yeah right )

just under a month to go to my birthday and i've already recieved my present! a sewing machine!
i'll be doing some blouses for the moment, but i also want to do a suit for the sixth form (in september).
then over the summer i might be able to do the dress i've been thinking about, the pattern's sitting on the chair next to me.

school tomorrow, exams start thursday. A WHOLE WEEK OF EXAMS! WHAT KIND OF STUPID IDEA IS THAT! *dies*

revision and making the requiem dress are both being thwarted by the story i'm doing in the other account. oh well.

the req underdress has lots of embroidery and beadwork on it. if i'd used my brain i'd have done it all BEFORE i sewed the back and front pieces together
i also neglected to attach the sleeves, so it'll be another scrappy joint where i've attached it after the body's been sewn. it's a fun life

not much else to say, except maybe that i'll be doing a bit of market research on you if you're not careful.

right, nothing much to say.

xmas was everything i expected - spent ages round at grandparents, then went and spent some time with family in castletown. we deposited my grandparents with my uncle, aunt and family, y'see. fun for them.

got some nice stuff, i'm listening to one of the cds now. never fear, though! the other was a dubliners one. also got some books. read "the dark side of the sun" (TP) in one day, then started "good omens" (TP and neil gaiman). i thought i was further through it than i actually was and was up ti half five asm reading it. this resulted in my lying til 3pm on boxing day with a killer headache.

damn, my cat just stole the computer chair. i let her into the room and this is how she shows gratitude! oh well, i'll have to kneel now...

yes, the other books were one by garth nix ( *yawn* ) and another which i will proceed to plug to you. it is called "behind the sourcerer's cloak" and is the last in the "summer of magic" quartet by canadian authoress andrea spalding. it is set in the good ole isle of man! buy it! of course, it is written by a family friend so we get mentioned in the acknowlegements. my mum gets mentioned three times! not fair, as i only get mentioned once!

seperate journal entry - honest!

christmas holidays have officially started!
however, i now have a week's work experience so i won't be updating 'till next weekend. watch out for my christmas special! you'll probably be very surprised!

xmas projects: council dress (have material and made up some of the trims), film requiem dress (material - some cut out), stuff for own wearing, that A2 map i was talking about before.

sadly, with my mocks starting the day after i go back to school probably only one or less of the projects will be completed as i instead kid myself that lying in bed is helping my revision.

i'm finally beginning to feel chrismassy! (i think it was the school doing christmas dinner followed by a carol service)

After spending several hours yesterday sitting doing nothing, my internet has finally allowed my to upload the Angel pic. Any comments i could make on it ae expressed in the description. there's also a second one, with two angels in it, that will be the next thing i put up. if i can fight and beat the internet a second time...

Knitting my own furry scarf, shop ones are never long enough or wide enough. i've also come up with a celtic design for a second one after watching my mum knitting an arran jumper for our friend's little girl.

on the subject of home crafts, one of the motifs for the butterfly dress is done, but i decided to leave the second until later and instead get some trims made up for Embrethil's Council Dress. This will be my xmas project when i'm not running about at the vets in Douglas (capital of island - don't get me started on the politics etc).

on a random note: hands up everyone who'd like to see what i've done to my geography revision list! it's an example of the way i usually work when at school.

This week has been the week of the high winds! It's very amusing at school, which is near the sea, as you tend to be blown around the corner a lot. there's also been heavy rain, so we have lakes instead of playing fields. On thursday some of the glass in the greenhouse (at home) was smashed and right now the gales are making the doors rattle. what worries me is the way the house's creaking!!
now, this bad weather should have sent me down to the coast to get some nice photos. i had a great chance on monday, as the waves were breaking over the sea wall and soaking cars on the prom. but i missed it, my excuse is that i was leaving school. most people don't take cameras to school.
i promise to get some soon, if the gales stick around.

anyway, having talked about the weather in good british fashion i'll know talk about something less interesting: coursework. maths is almost finished, but i've lost my geography. it was on the table, but now it's vanished. and only two weeks left 'til christmas holls. i'm not very happy. as you might possibly have guessed.

well, now that everyone knows how dull my life is at the moment, i'll shut up and go and question the parents about their activities in the dining room, with special attention to the movements of a reddish booklet saying "Geopgraphy Coursework".

Go the certificate for the Manx GCSE on Friday. Aaargh, so embarasing! the deputy head says "i give this next certificate with a mixture of pride and embarasment." and i just thought oh dear.....
when i collected it she made me stand there and read the title of the certificate in front of the whole school! eeevil teachers... ¬.¬

wow. that was an amazing week. i'm going to be scanning in the photos as soon as i've had the disposable cameras developed. didn't take my digital for more or less the reason that it might get lost, as one member of the group found out when getting off the sleeper train in Berlin.
here's the main highlights, city by city:

Warsaw, or should i say Warszawa:
getting chased by a hobo on our first night. he then came up with some insane story about being an american who'd served in vietnam and been locked up and thought we were his saviours just because we were the first english voices he'd heard for ages. do you believe that?
annoying the waitress at a posh restaurant with gold curtains and gold candlesticks and gold this and gold that by only ordering two bowles of borsch and some drinks. my friend and ispent 30 zlotties and we were obviously english-speakers and so therefore presumably rich. being given the evils has never been so much fun!
being eaten by what my friend called a "scary communist lift" (it had no door! really!). we got in, pushed the button for the lobby, arrived. my friend goes to open the door and the lift starts rising! we stood there thinking "what the...?"

Krakow:
finding "The Monsters and THe Critics" and "The Letters of JRRT" in an empik store. i went all the way to Poland to buy some books in English.... O_o
Auschwitz. enough said.
fellow school-mate Luke telling the german border guards "el proffessoro habla des passeports" on the night train.

Berlin:
finding out all about the Federal Eagle in the Bundestag (reichstag). will tell all separately, it's a long story...
pretending to be Skippy the Bush Kangaroo in an attempt to spy on a teacher, but only for some scandal to write in the diary for that day...
Buying about 4 square metres of white net for one of my next dresses. (this is about 3.5 square metres too much...)
Buying a real fur hat in the soviet style, complete with red star badge, at checkpoint charlie, then discovering i couldn't fit it in my suitcase

Coursework Syndrome

This ailment can easily be diagnosed by the sufferer's melted brains dribbling out of their ears. i'm typing up a Tess of the D'Urbervilles essay, i've got geography field work tomorrow and it looks like rain, i'm in the middle of physics and i'm starting my second biology piece next week. life is SOOO much fun at the moment.

anyhoo, aside from that i've got some pieces that i would like your opinions of. they're in scraps and are titled "Tirion and Butterfly Dresses" and "sketch map of Beleriand". Opinions please, if i'm to make them any good.

Bah, school again tomorrow. i'm currently trying to finish a poem comparison for my English teacher... i would much rather read something interesting or do some more artwork or practically anything else!

You may have noticed that i've been putting up lots of work lately, as i'm trying to get all my projects done before i go back and get snowed under by coursework etc.
New projects are a series of my own design dresses and an A2 size map of Beleriand. Unfortunately i probably won't get them done during my 2-week half term as i'm spending the first week in Poland/Germany on a history trip and might be working the second.

ah well, back to the poems...

GCSE results are OUT!!! i got a B for RS and an A* for geography DME, which counts as 30% of the GCSE. i still havn't recieved my manx results.

after i got back from my friend's, i recived a surprise visit from a family friend with an electric guitar! double !!!!

i know it's not the most inspired title, but i couldn't think of anything else. as you've noticed, i'm back from France. the trip was nice, apart from a little incident on the last day. i won't go into it here. the weather, on the other hand, was too hot - 37 celcius!!!

anyway, as promised, here's some manga. i might even put up the highlights from my holiday diary, if people ask nicely enough.

two whole months to spend drawing! i've had a few ideas since we went to strangford, but haven't had time to start them. also, my lace piece has been finished! it'll go into the competition the 22nd and be uploaded sometime soon.

only 1 GCSE left now (until next year ) so no more revising!

still anyone who hasn't got in touch about Gaelic? i may be starting a forum, still waiting for more replies!
