Doin' NaNo this year. Again. Same name as here, and as the past three years, but in case you lost it or something, here: [link] No word yet on what my novel is, it's a secret and I also haven't decided yet.

Probably gonna open commissions soon, as actually being paid to do art presses me into actually figuring out how much I should be paid to do art. And I do so many different kinds, I am sure this will be interesting.

Finally and most importantly of all, I believe I have solved the scanner problem. I have yet to actually run this solution through a field test, but I am confident that it will work.

Well. It is coming up on the one year anniversary of when I began posting it shortly, and I have been working on it lately, so I figured an update was in order.

Pretty much, it's like this: I'm busy right now with lots of school stuff. Senior year near graduation...yeah, not fun. So some things, LoA included, have been forced onto the back burner at present. You might have noticed something was up, actually, if the lack of updates have been any indicator.

Never fear, of course, I won't give up on this without TELLING people about it first. I mean, gosh, how rude could I be?

I have no date when I'll start posting again, however, but expect it in June sometime, or maybe before if things lighten up right before finals. Around a month/less either way.

Until then, you can always reread pages, or check out the site on SmackJeeves [link] which has a few more interesting goodies than I can manage on dA, even though most of them need updating.

And you can vote for LoA on TWC, just like any other webcomic trying to make itself look more popular than it actually is. I do put up vote incentives occasionally and sometimes they're ones that I haven't already put up somewhere else...like the one I just put up today, for example.

Because they really ruined today for me. It's an amazing historic moment, and although I had some doubts about Obama when he got elected - like probably any reasonable person would, given the rather small extent of his political leadership experience - I can say I'm proud to have him as our next president. Just as how I was proud of Bush and Clinton, and respected them and the office they held.

But I'm also realistic enough to know that, however great his ideas and whatever else Obama is, he is HUMAN and that means fallible and prone to mistakes.

Trust me. You'll see after a few years, when the euphoria's worn off and he's done one or two things that aren't so great and he starts getting criticized for that. Especially since the poor guy's starting out with such high expectations - 'cause when those can't be met, not how everyone wants, there'll be hell to pay.

But, see, I'm trying not to worry about all that stuff now - because this is lovely and historic. I'm not even bitter that both parties managed to miss out on putting a woman into the president or vice president office to a black man, just how women's suffrage lost out to black suffrage in the past...No, not bitter at all. Really.

So let's all put our differences and problems aside, be you black, white; male, female; Republican, Democrat; and seriously just wish the best for the new administration of the United States of America.

(And really, give Bush a break. Yeah, we don't like the guy - but he's GONE now. Okay? Gone. For good. Never coming back. Ever. Isn't that enough? Doesn't the guy deserve a break to just be with his family and out of the spotlight and not criticized and hated for once?)

I found her through her webcomic, (Boy Witch Takato), but her gallery is lovely, too, with fanart of things that I mostly happen to like as well, and pretty original artwork, too.

I watch her mainly for her webcomic, Archipelago, which is beautiful in plot, character, and art, but her occasional non-comic pieces are also gorgeous.

A bit early, but I ain't complainin'.

In other news, I finally broke down and made a MySpace, but I won't be using it very often, I think. Still. Me. MySpace.

I also got a YouTube account. And posted two videos. Just search for "Nathiel Caramelldansen" and...yeah, that's me. Hi.

I also also made another webcomic on SJ. It's very impromptu, and sloppy, but hey. Haber & Casteau's Magic Shop. Go check it out.

And most importantly of all, it's time for me to plug NaNoWriMo. Ever wanted to write a novel but couldn't have the time? Or didn't think it'd be good enough? ...Ever wanted to write a novel in a month? Well, that's what NaNo's for!

National Novel Writing Month takes place during the month of November. The goal? Write a 50,000 word novel during the 30 days of November.

But why, Penguin, would anyone want to do that? you ask. What is the point? Well, I can tell you: the point's to have a lot of fun. I've done it the past two years, didn't win, but had a blast. Also you get bragging rights. Also also you get, at the end of the month, 50k words on a novel that's YOURS. And most importantly a shiny purple bar. You want the shiny purple bar. You know you do.

All you have to do to participate is sign up and, on November 1st, start writing! You don't need experience. You don't need a plot. You just need to want to do it.

And if you do join, say hi to me! Y'can find me right here on my profile, and poking around the forums - which, by the way, are one of the best parts (and helpful if you don't have a plot.)

In other news...I'll have art to post eventually.

And it's my mom's birthday today. Which means that it's my birthday on Wednesday. All things considered, I'm doing a pretty job of not panicking about, hah, one more year until I'm legally an adult. Yep. Calm. That's me. Not worried about the future at all. Of course.

See, three times - THREE TIMES - today was the fire alarm pulled. Twice in pre-calculus and once at the end of the day in history. Due to our much-hated block schedule the two classes were back to back today, right after lunch.

THREE TIMES.

It may be a school district record.

Apparently, the first time was for a cat that got stuck in the ventilation system. Or so I've heard. The second was for a trashcan fire, which happens every couple of months and is fairly unexciting, except in maybe first year Japanese when the peer tutor comes in from the bathroom saying, "Um...there's a trashcan on fire in the boy's bathroom," and everyone laughs because that, as a combination of bathrooms, fire, and trashcans, is funny.

I don't know about the last one, but since it was ten minutes before the end of the day, I'm bettin' someone just pulled it to get home early.

That, or the auto shop/metals people set something on fire again.

I set things on fire in Physics class today, but that was virtual fire.

It's been a while since I've had a headache bad enough for me to want to take medicine. Especially one that's lasted the WHOLE DAY.

Dunno why. I'm considering "stress from finals," but that's silly, because I've never gotten particularly stressed before. (Only time was when we had to do a chautauqua in place of a final...but it wasn't test-stress, it was homgnervouspeoplejudgingmeonperformanceg yaaah! stress. Not even stage fright; I've only ever done acting for fun, am decently-okay at it, and have no problem since I'm just reciting what someone else wrote. xD Now, when you have to write, perform, and be fatally graded on the thing yourself... There's a difference there.)

I dunno. I'm babbling because I can...and felt like it. Well, I did.

(Oh, now I remember the last time I had a headache this bad. Those Delta airplanes last summer. Something wonky with the cabin pressure or something. Advil didn't help.)

Back now. And getting over a cold. I consistently get colds over Christmas break. Better than the pneumonia I would up with one year, though... D= But I'm pretty much over it now; just a little snuffly, and I've got a box of tissues handy for that, so no problems. ^^

I have over 300 deviations and 200 messages. Help me...!!

And I also...have two pages of a continuous comic thing that I may or may not post, because I really just made them to stave off boredom (it worked!), but now I kind of feel like continuing. Only thing is, I know myself. I know I can be completely excited about and absorbed in a project, and the next have completely forgotten all about it. And I don't want to start something I won't finish, because I've done it before (*cites a few fanfictions* ), and I don't want to do it again. But if anyone's interested, it's about the little cat and bird I've been drawing lately. I have no idea where it's going, but it's fun! (At the moment, anyway.)

The sad thing? I just noticed this.

I've also been on a draw-Legend-of-Zelda-and-Arnold-the-Alligator kick as of late. And I have a few unfinished things and ideas. I really wanted to draw more DP art, but that doesn't seem to be happening now.

October also means that NaNoWriMo will start in a month. And I'll prolly do it, even though it'll also prolly completely not work out. Ah, well. 'Tis fun nonetheless. No, it's creepy. And the LAST thing I need is to see our student body president dressed up as Spongebob. I'm sure they'll have a field day with the slime thing.

My dress for Friday will be my DP shirt and a lot of sunsceen (the assembly's ALWAYS on the football field).

Class schedule:

Mythology - Not too bad, the teacher apparently doesn't believe in giving homework (yet), is fairly amusing (got ink on his hands from his screwy overhead and asked if there were any freshmen in the hall he could use to wipe it off--on their shirt, of course), and the subject matter isn't too bad. The problem is he seems to have taken a lot of things from the English teacher last year. Not too bad; we haven't been forced to write a "So what?" essay yet, although I have seen those words on the board--and Sacred Writing Time has actual prompts, that are generally easy to write on (something of an essay on what defines a hero, and I found some interesting things to say about it).

Japanese - I love this class, always have, always will, and everyone I've spoken to says that third year's the best. W00t!

Physics - The teacher isn't a bad person. He has a very, very slight accent that I can only recognize after being in Minnesota for a week this summer. He also has a German last name and, yes, does look a bit like an ex-hippy, a description from one of my friends last year. With a very slight north midwestern accent. So, teacher isn't too bad--but on minimal review he gave us a sheet of problems that I haven't seen for a whole summer of not-thinking, and expects us to be able to figure them out. So...I sincerely hope he's into giving credit for work and not accuracy on homework. o.o

Trig - Awesome teacher, with a fair and organized way of doing things. Actually DID give us a review on the Algebra 3-4 stuff we forgot immediately after the final ended, but I can tell already that this won't be a fun workload, but she's the first math teacher I've had at this school that actually gives us a chance to work on the homework in class, which I've only gotten rarely from my other two teachers (and was my only complaint about the one I had last year).

Graphic Design - Considering that we got to spend the first day messing around in paint, I can say that this will be fun. Although the version of Photoshop we will apparently be using is a few versions above my own (hey, the thing was practically free, it's a good deal no matter what), I figure that I'll still be able to get a few good tips that'll assist in upping the quality of my compy-colored artwork. Woo-hoo! The teacher's also not too bad, either; he has a sense of humor, too.

U.S. History - The teacher spent 27 years in the airforce and is very patriotic. That, and considering that his favorite president is Reagon, I'm already pinning him down at a slight conservative bias at the very least. In any case, this is GOOD, because I couldn't care one way or another which party my teachers are members of, and my dad won't be complaining about a liberal teacher. He seems...enthusiastic, to say the least, and gave us homework on the first day, and seems very straightforward, no-nonsense, which I'll bet has something to do with spending twenny-seven years in the military. I'm hopeful, though, because my fifth grade teacher served time in the airforce, and is still one of the best teachers I've ever had. He does seem to not be entirely humorless, so...we'll see.

All in all, it doesn't seem like it'll be too bad of a year. I'm worried a bit about my history and English classes, but that's party due to bad previous experiences with those subjects at this school. Mythology seems fun, at least, and there's no real problem with either of the teachers--at least I'm guaranteed to easily understand the subject matter. Physics I'm worried about due to the teacher's track record of not being a good teacher. Oh, he does seem to understand the subject, just not be able to relay it to his pupils.

And now, I do believe that I am off to finish the first homework of the semester that doesn't involve paperwork-y stuff. And then, to a store, to stock up on pens and pencil lead.

I'm more worried about going camping (*gags*) on Labor Day weekend. But my dad's got his heart bent on it, and...well, there's no arguing with him when he's that way. (Actually, there's usually no arguing with him anyway. ) I'm just SURE that I'll get a homework-happy teacher that'll assign some dand big project for that weekend, with the reasoning that high school = no free time. Ever. ><

Ho hum. Worry about that next weekend, I guess.

Good news is, I went to the library and picked up that copy of Maximum Ride: Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports I've had on hold since June, which hopefully will be more to my liking than the other two books, otherwise the next thing you'll hear from me'll be a big, giant rant on the series. I hope not, it wasn't a bad idea to begin with.

Better news is, when I went to nab three of the Keys to the Kingdom books off the shelf (to start actually READING that series instead of, y'know, meaning tol...), I also found, standing up from that nasty kneeling position (the books I always want are either A, on the highest shelf where I can't even reach them WITH the stool thing, or B, on the lowest shelf), I found, on a chest-level shelf (yay!) all four Protector of the Small books by Tamora Pierce! I've been wanting to reread those lately, but the library only allows five books to be on hold at the time, and they've been taken up all summer long. Now I've just got a dozen books to get through in six weeks or less, yippee!

Also put up some new deviations today, which is yayness, and have ideas for many more--if I can draw them well enough for my liking. I'm also writing fiction again after a long dry spell, which is doing a lot of good for me mentally (phsyically, it's going a long way toward giving me Carpal Tunnel Syndrome ).

And now I'm off to go work on said shiny artwork, and/or story, finish my ice cream, read some books... Ya know, enjoy my last day of freedom.

1. I find the rule number one of these rules hilarious for some reason. "Post these rules." Brilliant!

2. I have a bunch of good story ideas, fiction and fanfiction. The number of pages actually written on them is fewer than the ideas that exist. I'm lazy at the actual writing part.

3. I double-check and preview everything I post anywhere before I actually post it. I'm paranoid I'll make some sort of mistake and look incredibly stupid.

4. Despite that paranoid care I take, I still make mistakes and look incredibly stupid.

5. More than half of the things I actually draw never get posted on my dA account. More than half of those are taking up hard drive space anyway.

6. Contrary to everything I've ever said, I do not like pie or seafood of any kinds.

7. I don't own a single skirt or pair of shorts. I wear pants all year round, even when the temperatures are in the 100's. Even when I go to Florida. XD

8. I want to do something dramatic/exciting/humorous for the eighth fact, but this is the best I can think of.

Well, I've still got a week left to enjoy. Even better, there's new DP episodes! Even worse, they're the last ones--but I knew it'd come eventually. Hmph. ( Nickelodeon)

I'm off to go (attempt to) punch out a couple of the sketches that I wanted to get out of the way, so I could see about coloring them later. It's been a long time since I've done compy-colored art, so I might try that. I also wouldn't object to doing a request or two if anyone would want one--especially because that's the only way I'll get ideas for DP fanart, which, if you haven't noticed, I've run out of for a couple months. I'm hoping that's worn off by now, the signs are good, but I'm also a little rusty at drawing the DP characters. Especially the not-Danny ones.

Ho hum.

Back to school time.

*insert suspenseful music here*



Well, not *quite* yet. I've got two blessed weeks of freedom left. Not 'til the 27th dost the torture begin....

But, I did get my ID and schedule today.

First semester: Mythology, Japanese 5, Physics 1, Trig, Graphic Design, and US History 1. In that order.

And, Lord preserve me, and I swear I will do my homework... Well, most of it, anyway.

Second semester: Poetry, Japanese 6, Physics 2 (The Sequel), Pre-Calculus (The Beginning), Health, US History 2 (Revenge of the Founding Fathers). But, this time, not necessarily in that order, because my school is notorious for screwing up the schedule. See, I don't know why they bother presenting us second semester's at this time, since they're all into the screw-it-up-later thing, but whatever floats their boats.

And doncha love my movie title-esque names? U.S. History could almost be National Treasure, with less treasure.

Although...I am hoping that my teacher for physics switches come second semester. A bunch of my friends had him last year for chemistry, and said he was horrible. Their grades showed it, too, and I know them for being both A, intelligent types, and B, doing-all-their-work-unlike-me types. Then again, I think I'm a bit better at math and science than they are, and, y'know, physics does tend to involve a bit of math and science. Maybe it won't be so bad.

...So I hope. (Physics 2: The Revenge. Coming January '08.)

And then there's my ID. Well, it's not a bad picture. I actually think it looks a little like my penguinized version of myself, only...more...less... Well, it looks a little like it if you squint and have a good imagination.

Oh, we (meaning my mom and I) got some schoolish supplies today. Yayz, schoolish supplies! Eh. Well, got some binders, dividers, book covers, folders, some clicky erasers, and some nifty felt-tip pens, since it's been a long time since I've had any good fine-poin felt-tip pens.

Oh, and paper. Yes, paper. Lots and lots of paper. Heaps of processed tree mulch, filling shopping carts everywhere! But I won't have to get more paper halfway through the year. Plus, it was cheap. Cheap = good. Of course, free = better, but unfortunately free wasn't an option in this scenario.

I still need a couple mechanical pencils to replace the one I'm sure to loose. Good ones, though, with the twisty erasers. And refills of said erasers, along with some lead refills. Fortunately, I don't think I'll need much for the specific classes, since I already have a Japanese/English dictionary, and the schoolwide standard graphing calculator. Can't really think of much else I'll potentially need.

So, now it's time to create a complex and inticate organization system for schoolwork that'll completely fall apart within a month and destroy all my hopes and dreams of having a sucessful and organized semester. And time also to begin the long and arduous switch from mode to ~EnigmaticPenguin
