Winter Bash has ended, sooo now i can use this space to say im open for duels again. im pretty busy with finals coming up, but challenge me at will, and i'll fit you guys in wherever theres an open gap.

Ladies and Gentlemen, without further ado, I present your SDL Winter Bash Winner.


Judges Verdicts:

Judge 1: Both Alamus and Koeb had great entries, with wonderful artwork, and compelling story, but in the end, it was Koeb's side that won my heart. Bringing closure to the yuuabe plot line, and involving all her past opponents is what really brought this tournament to an ideal end for me. Being able to involve, and keep track of so many characters at once, in a way that doesn't confuse the reader is a great skill to have, and I believe that Koeb was able to pull it off flawlessly. Alamus' side of the round was equally interesting and compelling, and using the end of the tournament to branch into the Sakura bowl was an interesting idea, but I feel that there should have been more involvement from some of the other characters, since they all had stories that needed closure, as well. In the end, it wasn't a deliberation between whose art was better, it was the story, and while both stories were excellent, it was Koeb's that reigned supreme.

Judge 2: I have to go with Koeb. When I judge, I look at the story before the art. Alumus tried hard to work with what she had, having two forfeits leading into the finals didn't really give her much to work with. It was a damn good entry, but Koeb's was stronger. As a final entry, it wrapped up everything she put out in each of the prior WB entries.

Judge 3: Alamus came pretty close I have to say. Like adapting her story to work with koeb's and not try and steer koebs story too much. Though Koeb did a similarly brilliant job and I felt her story made slightly more sense.
I especially liked the characterisation of Axen not caring about the plot she'd been involved in. It was consistent with how Axen had known about her name being falsely submitted but fighting anyway.
Koeb also handled the multiple events well. She overlayed the present fight with Axen with two flash backs and a tandem siege upon the GG. It's a really tricky story telling technique to do and she pulled it off fabulously.

Judge 4: I was deeply impressed by both artists story work. Both artists took character history and development to a level rarely seen in the SDL, fitting of a tournament finale. Alamus made a great comeback from the previous round and exceeded all expectations. Everything about her entry has outclassed her previous work on just about every level. Great story, great action, and great quality of art makes Alamus's entry a gem for her gallery. On the other hand, Koebs masterful pacing and organization of multiple parallel events took me by storm though. I dont think I've ever seen writing at that level in any OCT before... The art, while simplified, has a well grounded development and compliments the story well. Her entry is well balanced, and vibrant, even with the subdued color pallette.

Judge 5: While Alamus's entire entry is very impressive, with an engaging story (especially with the audience and Shado in particular), and quite wonderful action sequences (I particularly liked the creative use of paneling or non-use of paneling, as the page specified. I can't help but feel however that a few of the more essential panels that required a very specific emotion - a 'unch' - was not drawn in the best manner to do so; the example standing out being Madoka's look of shock as she realises that Axen knew all along. Additionally, another area where I felt that Koeb performed better than Alamus was use of backgrounds - Alamus's backgrounds feel flat and somehow unreal, especially when contrasted with foreground colouring, whereas Koeb's background flatness works well with her limited palette. I was also impressed with Keob's weaving of plot threads, with three seperate plotlines happening at the same time - flashback, audience/invasion, and the actual battle itself. Lastly, I feel that Koeb's writing somehow feels more 'real' and 'natural' than Alamus's; Koeb has always been a master of fleshing out the characters, and she really ramped it up for the finale.

Winter has come, and the people of SDL are feeling the cold bite of winter. Snow blankets the land, and the kids crowd around the fire for a calm day of staying warm and roasting foodstuffs. BUT! the activities continue! In the interest of keeping the SDL duelists from freezing up, the SDL Taichos have come together to keep everyone busy during this cold winter season!

This year, I am hosting the Samurai Duelers League's Winter Bash . a small, but intense competition with an influence on the end of year snow that will affect the conditions during each match, and outcomes of each fight that occurs. The Winter Bash will run side by side with the Winter Ball.

Here are a few things Everyone must know concerning the Winter Bash:

1. There are only 16 available spots open for grabs. Put your best work forth in the auditions, because the competition for those spots will be fierce.

2. A SDL Character Redesign Reference Sheet and Audition Entry are required. They must both be separate deviations, with the reference sheet displaying a front and back view of the character (minimum) and the Audition entry showing the character entering the Winter Bash. We are, however, allowing people to submit a Winter Ball entry for the reference sheet requirement, provided it shows a front and back view.

3. The Deadline for all materials is December 30, 2008 11:59:59 pm pacific time. No exceptions. The second the clock strikes 12:00, Deviations submitted will not be accepted. We will accept private notes to us up to one hour after this deadline. We are not responsible for searching your galleries for your entry requirements. Also, remember that this is an SDL Exclusive event, so characters must fit into the SDL League rules and guidelines.

Teams that would also like to sponsor the event and donate prizes are welcome to send a note.

~Undead-Jesus and i are two separate people, but he has, with my permission, been posting entries created entirely by me, to the OCBC contest. the reasons for that, i have explained to the people that it may concern, and i may post them here in the future if it becomes appropriate/acceptable to do so.

continuing on, there has been alot of drama thats been started up by the latest entry that was submitted, and many of you are aware of it. long story short, visit UJ's page for a look at what went down.

i myself am not going to release too much information now, in the best interest of maintaining a healthy relationship with friends on both sides of this arguement, but we are talking together to try and resolve this situation to appease everyone we can.

They will never want/need/understand my philosophy on art, and given the evidence so far, I doubt they would give up talking about me. I never completely ignore a persons words to me, and believe it or not, despite what ryu says about me being stubborn about my art style, I maintained an open mind and thought about what he and his precious little fanclub said to/about me. I would like to think I have some general grasp on what they hold dear in their art preferences and style. However, I will also admit that despite what ryu and rufi said to me, all the truths, lies, insults, rumors, and general BS, I will continue to be stubborn in my practice and philosophy in art, and I will acknowledge their beliefs and philosophies, though I will never accept them

I think this is one fact we can all agree on. And now that we are in agreement of that, I am going to do what should’ve been done long ago, and let it die here. I’m even going to go against all the personal feelings that have developed in me from reading what he and his fans wrote in his journal. I'm stepin up right now and attempting to get the apologies out of the way!

To Ryuuen, rufi, ryuuens zealous fan club, furu (my god ESPECIALLY her), and in general everyone else, I apologize. I apologize for everything you guys say I do/did/will do/etc. that offends you in whatever manner you take/took/will take it. That includes the things I did knowingly, and unknowingly. I also apologize for the epic shit-flinging that all the aforementioned parties and I took part in (except furu because she didn’t partake in it). i forgive and forget any and all wrong doings anyone here may believe they have, whatever things i held against them and whatever things the previous two conditions might've missed.

Furu you did an expert job quelling the masses, but killing the drive for it to start up again is something I have to do because letting it die on its own has proven an epic failure, and resolving a conflict cannot be permanently done by anyone other than someone at its very core. Thank you for doing a far better job at it than I could have ever hoped to do on my own, and thank you for providing me the opening I needed to kill this monstrosity.

Now that that’s out of the way, I hope every poor soul involved in this can come to terms and not give it a single reason to continue. We should now be able to finally lay this shit to rest, with no cheap shot remarks, sarcasm, and general demeaning of the opposing party. Let it die brothers and sisters… just let it die.

god damn. you know its close when your gut and heart contracts at the deadline, and stays tight until the judges announce their decision. i can finally breathe again...

~Chibi--Sama, you were a wonderful opponent, and you had me on my toes up to the very end. Luna is by far one of the more kickass characters in the SDL and I hope to see Vince and her cross paths again in the future.

Now concerning the actual fight itself, i do hope people try and pay attention to the work i put in making it as cohesive as possible and don't nitpick too much on the art quality itself... the fights quality was fairly low (its bad when even I know that... >.> , but anyone who knows me well enough will know that the art quality always takes a back seat to story for me. its another small triumph for my philosophy. But dont expect me to pull another stunt like that again, scraping through by the skin of my freaking teeth with poor quality... ~koeb is the next opponent, and you can be sure midterms aren't going to spring up on me this time.

We're down to the Final four, and its Vince Vs Madoka. Now lets make this duel something to remember.

i think the reason so many people reacted so fast to this orphan bill, is that everyone here on DA has a really close attachment to art, and the desire to protect it made everyone rush to react. it really cant get much simpler than that... what a social disruption this thing caused...

though i bet most of you hardly noticed the lack of updates...

long story short, some things went totally wrong with my online grades and i spent a while trying to straighten them out. dont worry, its not that im slipping. rather that one of the grades never showed up.

yeah... it dissappeared! homfg.

but it turns out that theres this weird little loophole where, if you were waitlisted in the begining of the semester, and you were later added, you had to actually DROP the class, then re-add the thing with the permission code, rather than simply adding the code and being done with it.

yeah... small issue. bleh. resolved now.

also starting the Photography class. i didnt expect to have to pay so much for that... D: film is crazy expensive, and they want me to turn in so many freaking rolls, homfg. why are my bank account numbers so small now?! (i admit, that was more because of the books, but still... its painful)

on a side note, there are alot of really brave squirrels on the college campus... i literally snapped a photo of it just barely beyond arms reach and it didnt so much as step away. those little buggers are damn cute.

im human, im not perfect. If i communicate with people half way across the world, theres bound to be an occasion that comes along where i inevitably offend someone. that doesnt mean i hate you, but hey, i'd like to hope you can atleast be understanding that american culture isnt the same as yours. crude jokes and offensive language is acceptable here, sex is a somewhat open book for the youth, and sarcasm is an acceptable part of everyday use. we'll put a play on words, and at the end of the day, we (hopefully) forgive and forget anything wrong we said.

if something has crossed the line, naturally i should expect the person offended to pull me aside and talk to me in private about the matter, make sure i know what i did wrong, and get back to life. it is everyones right to make clear they dont approve of something. yes, you can expect me to explain myself as well, i'll explain my joke, my intentions, and ensure we are all on even ground so we all understand that everyone doesnt go away with hard feelings...
