Step One is the step I think most people don't know or don't use, so try it next time you have a nasty assignment you've been putting off.

Step One
Remove your wireless adaptor or ethernet cable. If you need to research something then remove the adaptor/cable the moment your research is done. If your wireless adaptor is built into your machine, then unplug your modem and tell everyone else using it to deal with it.

Step Two
Put some chillout music on quietly in the background.

Step Three
Do homework. Don't stop.

Step Four*
Read over homework, make sure nothing is glaringly wrong.

Step Five*
Print homework.

Step Six
Place homework in appropriate receptacle for school/college/university.

Step Seven
Replace wireless adaptor or ethernet cable.

Step Eight
Relax in the knowledge that your homework is done.

*Steps Four and Five are interchangeable if you find reading on the computer screen a problem, but remember to repeat Step Five if you make any changes.

So yeah.

Yes, I'm still alive. I'd like to pretend that the reason I haven't been posting anything is because of my GCSEs working me off my feet. However, that isn't true. My GCSEs have not been working me off my feet, and they certainly haven't been going on since last October, when I uploaded 'Tell Me There's A Heaven'.

The truth is I've more or less lost the desire to create full-blown, spiffed-up digital works. I’m still sketching as prolifically as ever, but I just haven’t got the drive to do anything with those sketches. I’m not sure what it is, but I’ve come to the point where I simply cannot be bothered. I scan pieces into the computer, start to ink them, maybe get all the way to the flats, and then lose interest because I can’t stand the way it’s going.

What I really want is criticism. I’m considering doing something similar to what Hibbary does with her WIPs and uploading stuff just to be criticised. I feel like I’ve stopped growing as an artist, and I’ve made very few stylistic changes to what you saw in ‘Tell Me…’ nine months ago. I like my style, but I know it’s not my final style. It’s still growing and adapting to new little anatomical epiphanies, except I haven’t been having terribly many of those lately.

Well, that’s about it really. Oh, and I noticed I recently hit 1000 pageviews. Gods know why anyone’s interested, but thank you all. If I get over my art funk, my next proper deviation’ll be for you.

Hugs and lovings.

I've had a new Wacom Bamboo for about ten minutes, and already I hate it. I hate it with the burning fury of ten thousand desert suns. Ten thousand pregnant desert suns. Who've just been told they look fat.

A few of you may know that my precious, ever-faithful Graphire4 died two weeks ago. To my horror, I discovered yesterday that the entire Graphire line had been discontinued. Why? It was a durable, responsive, sleek, customisable tablet that I loved with all my heart! This love led me to believe that Wacom could do no wrong. Oh, how mistaken I wasÂ

Just for you, I will list everything that’s wrong with the Bamboo (Note that this is all I’ve found so far – the list is subject to change.)

-	No eraser tip customisation – I like an incredibly soft eraser tip, and, with the new, mad-firm tip I have to press really hard just to get a response. Now, I have dysgraphia – pressing hard on a pen is very painful for me, so this is my major problem with it.
-	The noise – passing the pen over the tablet makes this hideous scratching noise – the Graphire had a cover that made absolutely no noise. The pen just glided over it. Now not even music can cover the sound (And I hate having my music too loud, so turning it up won’t work either).
-	The pen-holder – I just know I’m going to lose my pen. The pen-holder is nothing but a 2cm thick circle of black plastic with a hole in it. I’ve knocked it over at least ten times in that many minutes. The Graphire (I know, I now… I’m going on about it way too much, but frankly the Bamboo doesn’t hold a candle to it) had an in-built pen older that held it tightly and snugly so it was practically impossible to accidentally knock it out.
-	The pen itself - it feels awful. It’s made of the same stuff as the tablet, and feels rough against the fingers. I need a smooth surface to grip when writing or drawing, so I’m pretty much fucked. Also, the now really short eraser annoys me as well; I had the habit of taking the pen’s eraser between my lips when I hit a stuck point to think (The tablet equivalent of pen-chewing), but now the only way for me to hold it is to sink my teeth in , which’ll just damage it. I know it’s a bad habit, but it didn’t damage it and it kept me occupied. The eraser also has sharp (ish) edges, meaning if you’re like me and hold the pen at an angle you have to tilt your pen so it’s perfectly upright to erase without a horrific squeaking noise and poor performance.

I know the Bamboo isn’t marketed at artists, but I have absolutely no money for an Intuos. I still can’t comprehend why the Graphire was discontinued – it was perfect for amateur artists like myself.

So there you have it. My rant for the day, and some excellent reasons not to buy a Bamboo. I’ll probably keep it if only because I’ve become completely dependent on tablets for shading and inking. My advice to Graphire owners; treasure it, treat it like a god and pray that it remains intact for many a long year. If you can’t afford an Intuos and your Graphire goes, you’re scuppered.
