Before we begin, we have a word from one of your judges,

"Well, there is definitely one thing that occurred to me from the start. The comic artists seem to be missing that touch of gritty grungy fear that the writers have applied so well. Many of the comic entries so far have displayed a care free, or testosterone driven conflict... a stark contrast to the writers gripping fear and survival based stories that really struck home for me. Personally, I would love to see the dark sinister stuff that the tourney originally started out trying to capture. The zombies, the blood and gore... All of the fantastic horror scenes that give us nightmares.

In addition to the subject change, perhaps trying to add that dark, rough, unpolished, and unrefined look to the entry would also help drive the point of horror straight home. Stark paper white backgrounds are good, but when you think of horror, white is as fearsome as fluffy baby bunnies. try and make a list of things that make you feel uncomfortable, scared, sick... and subtly apply it to your entry.

In short. push your comicing farther than before. but also think about what the setting is, and how you can take full advantage of it!"

You can start with whatever weapons you want, within reason.

- The contest is driven BY STORY (as well as good ol' zombie smashing). We give everyone a certain event(s) they must include in their entries. These events slowly reveal the nature, motives, and people behind the zombie legion.

- Include unclaimed previous DA-BR contestants as zombies. (pretty much a given) [see below for what "unclaimed" means.] Former DA-BR contestants will be more cunning and tenacious than regular zombies, like bosses from Resident Evil or the fast ghouls from 28 Days Later. They'll also possess any weapons they had until they died, whether such weapons were claimed by their killers or not. It's all about novelty.

-Contestants that die IN THIS CONTEST will become Zombie bosses!

- The rounds will alternate. It'll go in waves. One "battle" round of CHALLENGE AND FIGHTING. One "stay alive" round of SURVIVAL AND SCARE. and one "normal" round of BOTH AND THEN SOME.

- If we have contestants that want to reuse characters that have died in the past, we will allow them to do so, resurrecting them fully with no undead aftertaste or anything, saying that they were products of Jay's experiment gone right. The only catch is that they awake naked in the lab, the nexus of zombie activity.

-Also, NPCs. there should be some. ~Aikin and I will submit a few, but we'll be counting on you guys to do your part as well.

-Also, weapons, new ones will be added, with "weapon drops" in certain zones. Certain matches that take place in those zones could be to see who gets the weapon. You will not know what the weapon is until you win.

Archetypes Â The area of Archetypes is a great and grand hall lined with what at first appears to be more of the Skins from Memories. However, these are special. They are ultimate Skins, you are not only engulfed by a new personality when you put one on, you BECOME it, and somehow, you always were. Changing Archetypes is always as painful as the first time, and always as difficult. You can only wear one Archetype at a time. Choosing an Archetype is step one on your long road to being a better, a stronger, a REAL person.

The Judge is discerning, fair & balanced, and disciplined. He or she is also rigidly controlling, dogmatic, and ruled by ÂShouldsÂ. The judge Archetype grants the wearer the additional ability of cutting people with telekinesis.

The King or Queen is learned in leadership and deservingness. He or she is also ruled by a need to control and wrought in arrogance. Areas To Fight In:

ÂEvery single area sports a neat brass plaque SOMEWHERE with the name of the area in neat, art deco lettering.

ÂYou can travel between any/every area through the Synapse Tunnels. These are black portals or pits that appear randomly and can be leapt through. However, you have to know an area to arrive at it on purpose, if you donÂt you will arrive in a random area. A portal that opens for both of you (you and your opponent) will stay open for both of you (you can be followed easily).
You are encouraged to use the Tunnels freely.

ÂHOW THE TUNNELS LOOK UPON USE: "The land moves around the two of you like a psychotic conveyor belt of time and space.
In literally no time at all, the landscape surrounding the two of you dissolves like colored sand. It gives way to featureless blackness, and then more sand approaches from ahead to fill the empty space, just for a moment resulting in a banded tunnel of color and darkness.
Your next destination reaches you."

ÂWANDERING AILMESSLY IS NOT ENCOURAGED, that is to say, Gorger will eat loiterers, so you cannot use the same area three times in a row or more than four times PERIOD.

ÂYou all have a goal of eventually reaching Archetypes (try not to reach it in the first few rounds, guys).

1) Libido Â In this area of GregorÂs mind, one will experience brief and sporadic fits of lust and violence, MORE OFTEN THAN NOT AT THE SAME TIME. The area itself is a small room. The room is startlingly plain, decked out in stitched brown leather chairs and threadbare red carpets and tapestries that cover the peeling wallpaper. The room is filled with blue candles which grow hotter and cause the room to melt as the fightersÂ libido rises, eventually culminating in the roomÂs destruction and rebirth, like a phoenix. There is a ten foot wide fireplace lit with blue fire dominating one wall that bolsters the phoenix function. There is a white tiger-skin rug in front of the fireplace.
Another wall is dominated by a small book shelf, filled with photo albums: photo albums filled with pictures of all the women Gregor stared at and never had the nerve to talk to. The room has no doors or windows, so the only way out is for the room to destroy itself.

2) Memories Â This area seems unfinished, or as if it was never begun, and then simply left to wrack and ruin. It could be a room 60 feet square, or it could go on into infinity. It's neither black nor white, but a grayish brown that seems to have been rubbed threadbare in some places, occasionally in mid air. Where it's been rubbed raw, glowing blue cords criss-cross in a perfect grid. ThereÂs a spotlight centered on an armoire, it has a brass plate on its door with neat Art Deco lettering that reads ÂVisible MemoriesÂ. Several other objects flank it: A Moebius strip is torn in half with both ends nailed flat into the ground. A TV that was dumped with NO DUMPING graffittiÂd on it with a sign pasted over it that reads LANDFILL. And a sign that says DONÂT READ THIS SIGN, only the word DONÂT has been crossed out. Supplanting these resolved paradoxes is a new one.
It is a sign that says: THERE ARE NO ABSOLUTES.

Nana: *shuffles cards* Right. Well, normally we start with basic, popular questions, but we donÂt seem to have any of those, so weÂll be getting right into it. The most commonly asked question was: How does Gorger eat souls? Well, Mr. Ex? Would you care to fill us in on that?

Gorger: HmmmÂ*deep nose breath* Daniel Crawford, is it? How are your dear parents doing?

Anyway, I typically consume souls by dining on the still-living remains of my victims.

Of course, there are other ways. If one of my opponents is foolish enough to try to read my mind, they end up forming a link with me not dissimilar to Gregor's. I feed off of their powers and they tend to waste away within a number of days; the link not being as natural as mine with Gregor. The most recent fool to attempt this feat did not last long enough to suffer these ill effects. Oh, poor Hyouketsu.

Nana: So have you eaten many souls? What do you get out of it?

Gorger: A great many, if I recall correctly. And as for what I get out of itÂ
My continued existence I suppose. I was never supposed to be alive, you see. I started out as a bad dream, worked my way up to tempting voice, then to split personality, and then I was able to access the psychic powers of my host, Gregor; which were then used to make me solid in the "real" world. Unfortunately, his powers can only take me so far, and I need to keep eating people to remain visible and hearable. But hey, I make it sound like a bad thing! This is my dream job, honey. Ya gotta understand, that, like the great white shark before me, I have found my niche, I do not need to evolve. High school (and even some college) kids taking hard drugs and psychedelics under the belief that doing so ALONE will bring about some kind of direct enlightenment, IT WON'T. Your mind already has to be perceptive, alert and sensitive in order for those kinds of things to have ANY beneficial psychological effect. If you think dropping a tab of acid or eating some shrooms is going to immediately expand your consciousness, you are sadly mistaken. Drugs, like guns, tools and computer equipment, are only as useful or as dangerous as the person using them. Psychedelics are fine tools for exploring your own mind but if that mind spends most of its sober time either trying to score more shit or just dicking around on Myspace, chances are that your inner exploration will merely discover an intellectually impoverished void.

I am REALLY sick of....

These Same Kids thinking that reading books or listening to music or just admiring (but not trying to understand) the works of creative people somehow makes them creative as well, IT DOESN'T. You CAN'T get Creativity by fucking osmosis you dicks. Creativity is something that you must learn to be aware of in yourself. It is the state of mind that comes into being when you have seen past the conditioned restraints of both the external world and YOUR OWN internal psyche. It does not always come with artistic progress either, it comes with CONSTANT exploration and questioning of yourself and the world around you.

I'm am INCREDIBLY annoyed by...

Self-proclaimed Intellectuals walking around with this "more enlightened then thou" attitude. Do we not realize that calling oneself "enlightened" is a DIRECT hindrance to TRUE ENLIGHTENMENT. If you already feel enlightened to the world, than no new understanding can penetrate your self-righteous exterior. You have placed yourself on a pedestal so high up from everyone else, that you think you are able to perceive anything, yet you end up missing EVERYTHING because all the activity is going on below you. Enlightenment is not a goal, to reach enlightenment is not to be enlightened. You must constantly understand that you are more stupid of the world than you are knowledgeable before you are able to understand ANYTHING and thus be enlightened. To be enlightened one must always maintain a constant state of curiosity, one must be aware of their own ignorance and own up to it.

I am DISGUSTED by...

Those who proclaim to be intelligent and condemn their fellow peers for not being "as intelligent" as them. Those who think that they should educate those around them, when they haven't even properly educated themselves about their own being. Those who are unaware that to first be a teacher, one must be a student even to their own student. Those who condemn self-righteousness when they themselves are walking pillars of it in a different costume.

And lastly I am deeply AMUSED...

That many will probably read this without realizing I'm talking directly to them and about them, as well as Myself.

Never be TOO comfortable with yourself, just enough not to totally damn yourself. Otherwise do not stop searching, for there is no end to Intelligence or Enlightenment. To find one is to make for stale knowledge that will only become moldy and useless over time.

The concept of Dianetics is stated as regarding the relationship between mind and body. Hubbard put forth the view that most mental and physical problems are caused by traumatic memories (which he called "engrams") that are stored in the unconscious mind, which he terms the "reactive mind." The goal of Dianetics is to become rid (or "cleared") of this portion of one's mind. Once at this state of "Clear," according to Hubbard, an individual becomes able to function at his or her full potential.

Hubbard presented Dianetics as a revolutionary and scientifically developed alternative to conventional psychotherapy and psychiatry, claiming that it could increase intelligence, eliminate unwanted emotions and alleviate a wide range of illnesses he regarded as psychosomatic. The central practice of Dianetics is "auditing", in which a "pre-clear" attempts to confront the engrams in his reactive mind (usually with the assistance of a counselor called an "auditor"). As a result, a wide variety of resultant conditions are treated. Auditing frequently employs a device called an E-meter, which measures the electrical resistance of the human body and which followers of Hubbard claim "measures the spiritual state or change of state of a person".

Dianetics is an attempt to study the pathology of the stimulus response mechanism of the human mind in terms of the mechanisms that cause compulsions and confusions. Hubbard described Dianetics as "an organized science of thought built on definite axioms: statements of natural laws on the order of those of the physical sciences". These Dianetic axioms can be found in many Hubbard books such as Scientology 0-8: The Book of Basics and Advanced Procedures and Axioms. Unlike conventional medical or mental therapies, Hubbard said, Dianetics would work every time if applied properly and "will invariably cure all psychosomatic ills and human aberrations." In April 1950, before the public release of Dianetics, he wrote: "To date, over two hundred patients have been treated; of those two hundred, two hundred cures have been obtained."

The claim is that Dianetics can heal physical and psychological sickness's, including asthma, poor eyesight, color blindness, hearing deficiencies, stuttering, allergies, sinusitis, arthritis, high blood pressure, coronary trouble, dermatitis, ulcers, migraine, conjunctivitis, morning sickness, alcoholism, tuberculosis and the common cold, to which Clears would be immune. The Church of Scientology has consistently advertised Dianetics as a means to physical cures, and its website includes claims that while a student seeks spiritual gain with Dianetics "the arthritis vanishes, myopia gets better, heart illness decreases, asthma disappears, stomachs function properly and the whole catalog of ills goes away and stays away."

(It is interesting to note that these claims have much in common with the "patent medicine" and other pseudo-medical claims made in the late 19th and early 20th centuries by Quack doctors.)

Let us first look at the primary fundamental flaw in Hubbard's claim.

First there is the fact that The American Psychological Association passed a resolution in 1950 calling "attention to the fact that these claims are not supported by empirical evidence of the sort required for the establishment of scientific generalizations.

Subsequently, Dianetics has achieved no general acceptance as a bona fide scientific theory.
Many scientifically informed voices have criticized Dianetics as a classic example of pseudoscience (and Scientologists have the gall to call Psychiatry a "pseudoscience")

Objective experimental verification of Hubbard's physiological and psychological doctrines is lacking. To date, no regular scientific agency has established the validity of his theories of prenatal perception and engrams, or cellular memory, or Dianetic reverie, or the effects of Scientology auditing routines. Existing knowledge contradicts Hubbard's theory of recording of perceptions during periods of unconsciousness.
The MEDLINE database records two independent scientific studies on Dianetics, both conducted in the 1950s under the auspices of New York University. Harvey Jay Fischer tested Dianetics therapy against three claims made by proponents and found it does not effect any significant changes in intellectual functioning, mathematical ability, or the degree of personality conflicts; Jack Fox tested Hubbard's thesis regarding recall of engrams, with the assistance of the Dianetic Research Foundation, and could not substantiate it.

In interviews, when asked where he gets his ideas, he says they come to him from nowhere, as he never reads comic books or watches cartoons.

Anything slightly good that he has made is PLAGIARIZED.

Shmorky is his latest victim.

Everyone is mad. I Am Mad.

Everyone starts to call Goldman out on his thievery, sending him emails asking him, why did you do that?

He then sends out an auto-reply email saying that he traced Shmorky's drawing because Shmorky is a PEDOPHILE and then links to a directory of non-pedophile pornography.

The fuck?

So a bunch of minors start emailing him, telling him it's highly illegal to send pornography links to minors via email.

He stops the auto-response email, but by then it is too late, and someone has probably reported him to the FBI by now.

Myspace deletes his account for sending the porn to minors.
Someone from the Something Awful forum RE-REGISTERS the account, and puts up all the damning evidence!

Kyur4 TH Ich - Linkin Park - Reanimated (Why is this scene after the birth of my child? Maybe the birth scene was of a friend's child? Anyway, this song is rather imperial, not quite Shogun but bordering on Daimyo. A very formal and dramatic wedding.)

My God Robots! Season Finale - Matt Wilson - MGR Soundtrack (A fast-paced Techno song with an air of apocalypse about it. Perfect for a crazy 50 car pileup on a dark rainy night.)

Final Battle:
Kyle Took A Bullet - Tenacious D - No Album (Who am I fighting? This song has a slow pace, but is suitably dramatic. A one-shot draw between two gunslingers, perhaps?)

Death Scene:
Humansaredead - Flight Of The Conchords - Flight Of The Conchords (This song is supposed to be comedic, so it's rather hard to fit it to an image of my death, despite its eerily appropriate title. There could be another minor flash-back sequence here to fit the tempo of the song, interspersed with harsh, blunt, Top-Down shots of my bullet-ridden corpse. Yikes.)

To be fair, they were written very early in my career (like,12) and I've been too busy with my other story (the one I'm trying to get illustrated) to fully edit and retool them. So, On Hold they shall be put until I can focus on them more properly.
