I should probably clarify some things.

Yes I am still going to SFASU. Yes I am still getting a degree in cinematography. Change: instead of a BA in cinematography, it has now been changed to a BFA. Cause I'm a hard ass.

I've also been helping a friend out with a screenplay she has been writing. I'm punching it up a bit. She's a rookie so she's still green to everything. I think it's a cool idea. Horror genre, I'm trying to help her keep it from being cliche as fuck, easier said then done though.

The screenplay I'm writing is a comedy, so a completely different mind set, and I've hit a snag. That sucks but at least it's not like Transformers 2. What happened O&H? Also, fuck you Mr. Bay.

That's about it really.

<sub>
1. I'm smart, really smart. Too smart for my own good maybe. Last IQ test was in freshman year in high school, I scored a 130 on it, haven't been tested since. I realize people say IQs don't matter, but how many people with low IQs do you know that truly are fucking idiots? I rest my case.

2. I watch movies, and lots of them. Normally I am watching 4-5 movies I've never seen before in a week, especially with a high speed internet connection at school. I admit to being a pirate. If you want someone to trust on movies, come to me, I make no qualms about if a movie is good or not, regardless of what it is.

3. I smoke a lot as well. It will be the death of me. I'm annoyed by people that tell me it's bad for my health, as if that's something that is unknown to me.

4. I condone smoking weed. I however do not condone hard drugs, my opinion comes from the experiences I have had, and what I have witnessed. Also the commercials on t.v. about weed are false. Marijuana is not habit forming, however hard drugs are. You do the math.

5. Music is my life's blood. I've tried other disciplines but I always return to music. At my age group, I can still hear better than other people around me, and I believe from test taken that I am more susceptible to frequencies than the average person. People think I have exceptionally good relative pitch. I don't, not that I know of anyway.

6. On the subject of music, I have an affinity for sus2 and sus4 chords and the pitches of D for some reason that is beyond my comprehension. My favourite scale is the D Major/b minor scale and I compose in it a good chunk of the time, regardless of what instrument it is for. I play a lot of guitar, violin with an occasional venture into piano for the pretty things that need to voices and a single player.

7. I help people when they ask, even if I don't like them, I will still help them, because some times people just need help and have no one to turn to. I'm far too forgiving.

8. I write every day, even it's to no purpose I still write.

9. I consider myself a renaissance man, especially in the area of the humanities. I am an accomplished writer, artist, musician. I am skilled in the sciences as well as philosophies etc.

10. My ocd consist of being slightly germophobic. I won't drink out of a glass if I think its dirty, it doesn't have to be dirty, I just have to think it is, same goes for silverware and china etc.

11. I've had the same best friend for 18 years. I form long-term relationships with people, and when I'm curious about something it's genuine. If I'm curious about you, indulge me, it's the best way to get rid of me, let me figure out what I want and then I will leave you alone. In that vein, I am a philomath.

12. I dream in color. I know all women dream in color, but to this day I have not met another guy that dreams in color other than me. They aren't vivid colors, mostly consisting of reds, blues, some greens and yellows.

13. My favourite number is 52. I find it looks balanced.

14. I'm an introvert with a persuasive personality. Once I do leave my room, I can generally convince someone to do something with little effort, however, the introvert in me doesn't like bothering people when I am out and about.

15. I do not like crowds, I hate them, and I won't go to big parties as I find it has too many people and that makes me nervous. I prefer small gathers, 4-7 people at the most. The last big party I went to, through out the night there were over 100 people at it.

16. My mind never shuts off. I can be wide awake in less than 3 minutes given a cigarette and a soda and I'm good to go.

17. I hate talking about myself, and I find this almost painful to do, ask any instructor in college and they will tell you, I don't like talking about myself, I'm prideful, yet humble to the point this makes me feel bad.

18. I know the difference between "wonder" and "wander" and "farther" and "further" and I use them correctly.

19. I'm a music major who has been confused for an English major.

20.

For those that have known me for a while, that I speak with on a regular basis, should by now know I have a fondness for The Divine Comedy, especially the translation by Allen Mandelbaum.

As of late I had 3 copies of the complete poems, Cardi's in 3 volumes, Mandelbaum's also in 3 volumes and a final version in a single volume with another author's interpretation.

I am happy to say that I recently just purchased a copy of Mandelbaum's translation in a single volume, as well as hardcopy. It's an excellent edition and I look foreword to purchasing other editions in the future.

It is my fondness of The Divine Comedy that even lead me to read the whole of The Inferno to a significant other at the time. I rather enjoy sharing the story with other people. So if you ever happen upon a copy of it in a book store, think about getting it, it offers some pretty cool stuff for such an old story.

I also purchased Truman Capote's Breakfast at Tiffany's. It has a collection of other stories in there, and I've read one and I've enjoyed it.

On a final note, someone I'm not fond of is Kid Rock. He's a douche. I will also be working on immigrating as a citizen of Australia and getting all the good stuff worked out. We have not set a date for the big day to go down yet, but that's all up to her, whatever day she thinks is special enough, and easy enough for me to remember.
I've known JDP for about 8 years, dated for 6-7, possibly 7½ either way, we decided that it would be the most logical next step. And though admittedly such a thing has never happened, still it is conceivable that someone might possibly have escaped from their singing; but from their silence certainly never." - Franz Kafka (from The Complete Stories pg. 431)
</sub>

Okay so here's the deal, I just read Nate's journal about the WESH contest. At the time if publishing it, Nate and Jensey were in first, thanks to dA and their [Nate & Jensey] fast action, on the button, photo skills. But with any ranking, you have to keep it. If you don't keep it, you loose it, see how that works? Now they mentioned a contest which is cool, had they just said, please spam the shit out of your journal with it, I would probably still be doing this... Which leads to this:

Click the above image of Nate and Jensey and their MGM inspired pup and goes to WESH. Now, you have to sign up to vote for them, but seriously, WESH won't spam you so its okay, take one for the team. While you're there, leave a comment, it's okay you can do it, it wont hurt, nor bite. As I said above they are in first and they shoot weddings and other events where PMS can come into play, so lets keep them there, and all the happy people in Florida happy as well.
Now if you're reading this and you dont know who Nate and Jensey are, first crawl out from under the rock, two take a shower, cause it gets pretty nasty under rocks, thirdly listen up.
Nate is `achfoo and Jensey is =MissAchfoo, they got themselves all married and stuff of late, which is good, seeing as they shoot weddings and all that. Now if you're one of my #photographer peeps then you know who they are and everything else doesn't need explination, but if you are still under that aforementioned rock, read:
Nate's a good guy and his gal are always helpful when they come in, answering questions, giving advice, all for free. We live in a capitalistic nation/world so if it's for free we consider that either A.the thing is broken, or B. We just got one hell of a deal. So here's my incredibly awesome deal: Vote for them if you are any kind of human being. Do it. Do it now.

N.B

So I finished my run at work. It was fun, not a fun last day, but over all fun. Came home, chilled a little but, then got the best shower of my life. Headed up to Applebee's and had a few drinks. Came home and talked to mah lady love and then went to bed. Vote for them, okay seriously last time. No, I connect to every other site I go to with no difficulty and rather quick load times. Two, is dAmn down? From what I've read in the forums, no. They did however have to restart the server, but that was on July 17... A week ago. So really what is this problem and why is it repeating at such a high number?

***

To update everyone on my whereabouts, I've been working throughout the summer to save money for Australia, I plan on getting a work visa so I can stay up to 365 days there. Fuck all this three months crap, that's for sissies, besides I have a lot of someone I want to do. Personally I think it will be a good experience for me to work within the country I plan on moving to when I have the visa, and all the legal documentation taken care of. To stay in the country I need at least 5k, the plane ticket, from what I've looked at will cost me 2,099 dollars, so no biggy right? Wrong. I'm also a full time student taking 18+ hours and running a newspaper on top of it all. So working a full time job, may be out of the question. But not completely.

Ive worked so hard this summer I literally rubbed holes into the bottom of my shoes. They are completely destroyed; the shoes are falling almost off my feet. One has a hole completely through it. I can stick my index finger through it and wiggle it around, that's a sad fact, but I'm pretty smug about being able to rub holes in my shoes. My last day at that job is Aug 1, I will then move back into the journalism world and create a functioning layout for a local high school to use as their newspaper, and finish the redesign of my paper, The Eagle. Aug 7 I have an editors meeting and Aug 11 I have a staff meeting. I have it in mind to go to press on the 21, so this doesn't give my editors or my staff much time to get shit together. I'm putting them through the ringer so to speak. It's not that I'm trying to be hard on them, but I am establishing the mentality that I don't play games. I worked my ass off last year on that paper and I plan on it paying off at TIPA in the spring. Let's break our backs!

[edit]
This is why Pete, $Tachy-on, rocks so much, read my post and being the friend he is, he pointed me towards the new XPCOM, version 1.8, since firefox updated to 3.0.1, so here's the link he gave me:[link] clicky clicky and take some frustrations out else where.

I also went to the entertainment store and bought myself a book on screenwriting called, Screenwriting is Storytelling by Kate Wright. I've gotten interested more and more into screenwriting because I'm more cinematic minded I guess? It's how I see scenes even when I'm writing short fiction. Anyway, that's that edit/update. And though admittedly such a thing has never happened, still it is conceivable that someone might possibly have escaped from their singing; but from their silence certainly never." - Franz Kafka (from The Complete Stories pg. 431)
</sub>

I figured an update should be in order, as the last one was posted on April 29. I did okay for the second semester, came out with a 3.4. All A's except a B in History and a C in Algebra. The good news is even though I received a C in Algebra I will not have to take any more mathematics course, which is worth the blow to my GPA. The B in History is because of the boring section covering the New Deal. My term paper in History netted me a 99, as she does not give 100 on term papers, nevertheless in her words, "it was one of the most perfect papers..." she's seen in "... a long time".

I've found me a summer job, it's working with concrete. I seem to torture myself during the summer finding some of the hottest jobs outside someone can get, but it pays good with mandatory overtime every week, and the pay is every week. The job is a pretty good job other than lugging wheel barrels full of thick heavy liquid concrete over 100 feet to my station. My back aches and my feet are constantly in pain most of the time, but considering the outcome, I think it validates the reason I am there.

When I get home from work, I play around in Cinema 4d R10 and have done some pretty fun stuff, recently I did the header for my blog and a globe with a stand etc. I find it helps me wind down from a long day.

As for next semester, I will be returning as Editor-in-Chief of The Eagle and making some changes concerning how the paper is ran. I plan to make it more efficient and more professional than I did the last two semesters. I think the crew we have coming in will be much more professional and not bitch and moan about what they have to do, as that would then make me have to do it and that would only irritate me more. Music Theory is on the block too, which makes me happy seeing as I waited two semesters for it to be there, and the string ensemble will be kicking off.

Other than what I've mentioned I'm open to suggestions and debates. And just remember come November, Obama '08 Baby!

------------------------
Up coming Concerts
East Texas Symphony Orchestra
September 27, 2008
Shannon Lee - Vivaldi's Spring and Winter Concertos
Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 in d minor
December 6, 2008
Pyort Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker Ballet
February 28, 2009
Elena Baksht - Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2
Kodaly - Hary Janos Suite
Ravel - Bolero
April 4, 2009
Itzhak Perlman
April 25, 2009
Copland - Fanfare for the Common Man, Appalachian Spring
Danielpour - Toward the Splendid City
Grofe - Grand Canyon Suite

Love you Sunshine.
<achfoo> Randy Travis can suck on a grenade.
</sub>

And though admittedly such a thing has never happened, still it is conceivable that someone might possibly have escaped from their singing; but from their silence certainly never." - Franz Kafka (from The Complete Stories pg. 431)
</sub>

Wednesday:

We arrived around seven Wednesday and unpacked. It was a long day. That night we ate Taco Cabana. And then chilled out and passed out.

Thursday:

Competitions lasted through out the day. I had news photo and critical review.

Comp photo:

And critical review I did of a little band:

Southern twang played on an acoustic guitar and a basic drum set. Brian Douglas Phillips played the Oakwood Ballroom at the College Station Hilton on April 3, flavored with country, rock and a Texan drawl, he simply called it "Americana rock". With a limited vocal range Phillips had to rely on crooning to the audience much of the time, and when not playing between tracks joked with them.

Same good ol' boy or same ol' progressions? A little of both actually, many of the songs had very simple rhythmic and harmonic progressions, with quieter moments lent to almost purely guitar drenched statements. A fine example of the repetition within a song is found in "Song 1" with its flowing from verse back to chorus with little to no aural distinction.

Brian Douglas Phillips seems to have a problem with telling the audience the name of the song before playing it, they offered CDs after the set, but if you found one that you enjoyed there was no way of knowing which piece it was on the disc, if it was on the disc at all. Having played four tracks that were not on the album, Phillips' communication with the audience could be improved.

One of the more developed tracks remained nameless as the first one, but with its distinctions it rose above the original songs. With its syncopation, placing the down beat on any other beat that its not expected, the maturity of this song is leaps above the others in the form of developing the idea and direction in which its moving.

Rhythmically speaking "Song 3" has a 50's doo-wop feel rhythmically, though simple, the complexity lays in the alterations of the rhythmic element of the piece, between chorus and verse. In the verse alone there lays two separate rhythmic statements, the latter being a variation on the previous material.

Once the brothers moved into the material off the albums, things got... Interesting to say the least. From country ballads to a Marvin Gaye cover, "Heard it through the grapevine,"Phillips began to show his maturity as an artist going so far as to pull a "Dylan" as the artist said by getting a mouth-harp, harmonica, and playing along as he strummed.

Over all Brian Douglas Phillips as a band performs well together, though given the nitch they are in "Americana Rock" it sounds as though it needs to be renamed to "Coffee-house rock". Good for small areas but never meant to be played in larger venues. I'd give Phillips a 3 out of 6.

Annette, my editor-in-chief things I trashed the band, I didn't, just didn't enjoy them.
The boys and I decided to drink and I got drunk for once in a blue moon. We had fun and went to bed at around 4 a.m.

Friday:
Break out sessions were interesting, I damn near feel asleep in two of them and then the editor's round table was engaging, a bit dull but engaging. We then drove around the town, visited Texas A&M University campus, took some pictures. Went to George H W Bush memorial library. Got some cool pictures there.

Saturday:
Woke up early. Went back to the Hilton and had free breakfast, and then the award ceremony started. I won two honorable mentions in sports page design and feature photo. Left around noonish and got home pretty quickly.

------------------------
Up coming Concerts
<strike>LSO: Beethoven - Symphony No 9 in D min</strike>
<strike>Sep 29 2007, 7:30 p.m.</strike>
<strike>ETSO: Caitlin Tully - Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto in D</strike>
<strike>Oct 27 2007, 7:30 p.m.</strike>
<strike>LSO: Elgar - Engima Variations</strike>
<strike>Nov 10, 2007, 7:30 p.m.</strike>
<strike>LSO: A Night in Old Vienna XIX</strike>
<strike>Dec 29, 2007, 7:30 p.m.</strike>
<strike>ETSO: ...

Generally I'm not saddened by celebrity deaths or deaths in general, a bus load of kids, dead, I won't bat an eyelash, but that's because I've been rather desensitized over the years with news reports etc. But with Ledgers passing I feel as though regardless of the matters or circumstances that caused his untimely death, that my heart felt wishes go out to his family, his daughter and his ex-wife.

Australia will mourn his passing as will Hollywood and the rest of the nation. He was such a young man, being 25 and having a significant other thats 27, having him die as such a young age of 28, mortality is yet again knocking on my door. Life is short, get out there live a little, break some rules, get dirty, but stay safe while doing so.
</sub>

<sub>
My last final of the semester is coming up. History to 1877, I hope I pass, I didn't slack off for nothing to not get straight A's in all my classes. Slacking is an art form unto itself. I did my Humanities to Modern Times, passed it with an A, English is a given, so is Newswriting/Journalism Practicum.

Music Appreciation was fun, wish I could do it again, but what would be the point? I could have slept through the class, not to boast or anything, I did learn some things, like... umm, what Idee Fixe meant and where it came from. What else did I learn in that class... My point exactly.

I passed Intermediate Algebra, now on to the only math I will need for as long as I am in school... I hope. I pray.

Next semester should be pretty easy as well. English Composition 2, easy, Mass Communication, easy. All the journalism stuff, easy. I worry about Algebra and History. Other than that, unless I pick up another course, I should only be taking 16 hours this semester.

While on the subject of college and all that hoop-la, having spoke with two DMAs, Dr. Clinton, and Dr. Wall [Yay Jeff!], they have told me the best course of action is to enroll in a bachelors program for music after this semester is up. Which I am honestly thinking about doing. I have two universities I am looking it, Stephen F. Austin and Texas State. Dr. Wall put in an application to Texas State, so lets all hope he gets it, that would be really cool. Over the coming semester I will look more into the two universities I mentioned and get more details on what it takes to enroll and be accepted.

Over the course of the winter break I intend to study hard, focusing on harmony and its inner-workings. Once I ground myself solidly enough in harmony I will then focus on melody and my violin studies. Piano as much as it is needed for "composition" which I think is a cop out for pianist, I don't use it often if ever when writing for orchestra, I use my brain, like a good lad, will more than likely take a back seat as it always has.

I am working hard on understanding all the little facets of music and how it works in its parts to come together to create pleasing whole. Until then, see you on the flip side.

[update] I got my grades back. 4.0
</sub>

</sub>

<sub>
Finals start next week for me. So far I should be passing everything. I know that I have an A in English, News-writing, Journalism, Music Appreciation, Speech, and Intermediate Algebra. As for my other classes, I have a B in Humanities, which I should be able to push up to an A with the final, and possibly a B in History. Those two B's aren't making me too happy so I will see what I can do to get them up so I have all A's in my classes.

Technically I'm on academic probation because I enrolled in '02 but never went, so I have to maintain a 2.0, so I'm going to try and get a pretty high GPA just to piss on the people that force me to sign a fucking contract saying I will maintain a 2.0.

My column in The Eagle has ended with stupid shit in the news, next semester I do believe I will just write rants about random shit. At least thats the plan. After finals, I'm headed back to my hometown away from my hometown for x-mas, though I will be bringing along my violin so I can still practice. That's about it.
(A brief summary of instrumental music through the ages, really brief.)
Has a region affected a composers output and methods of orchestration?
Given the larger possibility for a musician in the 21 century to hear and participate in music as a collective, the chance encounter to come in contact with various degrees of musicianship and base roots music (read folk melodies, rhythms) are at their highest.

Starting with the medieval music and on into the renaissance, music was getting its legs and exploring the modes of the church. Also being explored were the formations of voices and their interactions with one another as a whole. The arrival of homophony and polyphony with further development in the Baroque period signaled a time of virtuosity, and flair with the technical of an instrument. Composer's voices were becoming distinct as opposed to that of the simplistic nature, granted not from what it sounds, but nevertheless of the periods prior.

From 1750-1800 saw the population move away from the over embellished Baroque music style and look for simplicity in the form of rigid (cookie cutter) pieces. This is no more apparent than in Haydn's symphonic works. Given the amount he output, 104 or 106 by some accounts, the use of the classic symphonic structure is simple and easy to follow. The form does not lead to much distinction between composers. Distinguishing between a symphony by Haydn and Mozart are only apparent to the seasoned listener. More specifically in how they use the melodic and accompaniment lines.

With the arrival of Beethoven, a distinction and rallying against the methologic structure of the string quartet and symphony would see them stretched and broken by the Austrian. Within 30 years of Beethoven's birth he would usher in a new period of compositional technique; composition not based on rigid forms, but of emotions and music's ability to display it readily.

The Romantic period would last many years, from 1800 to 1930. The match point was Beethoven's third symphony. This marks his middle period of composition. It moved away from his teachers of the classical period and developed into his own musical voice readily distinguishable from any other composer even to the present time. Beethoven's replacement of the minuet/trio form with the scherzo marked a radical change in the symphony as a whole and even at the present time the scherzo is more relevant and common that the previous form.

Within the Romantic period lies a movement known as the nationalistic movement. It would start in 1830, three years after Beethoven's death.
A significant composer of this era which would change much of the orchestration styles composers of modern music understand is Tchaikovsky. His influence of folk melodies and incorporating them within his music allowed it to reach the common working man on an emotional level never seen before.

At the beginning of 1850 the Late Romantic period started and ushered in a new form of compositional technique combining all the previous styles. This style would lead to Aaron Copland and Sir Edward Elgar writing many of the most charged pieces since Beethoven's Symphony No. 9.

A friend (~Adoniram)brought up a subject of interest as well which is globalism of music, I reprint our comments to the above article below.

Adoniram:
Well, it's worth noting that your essay addresses only the chromatic thirteen note tone scale and western compositional rules. Certainly many cultures have had different compositional developments, not to mention instrumentation. I do like the idea of an internet enabled compositional evolution, but I think in order to really treat the subject fairly, you'd have to include several other cultures and their very real influences on modern instrumentation and composition.

Myself:
Well this is just a really quick overview of western tonality and the influences that have directed its development. Thanks for the comment, I do realize though if I were going to write something more thorough it would have to involve microtonal system of the east and india etc. I will ponder writing a much more thorough essay on the subject once the semester is over. I'm currently busy as hell.

Adoniram:
Haha... I'm sure, but it's a really...

I am no longer just a staff writer for The Eagle. Uncle Ben was right, "With great power comes great responsibility." Apparently my "great" power is being able to use Adobe's InDesign because no one else other than the people that were there before know how, and so my new responsibility for The Eagle is Design Editor/Production Manager. So if anyone fucks up the newspaper and the way it looks, its gonna be me.
Our new issue is out, came out Wednesday. You can view all 6 pages of the pdf here [link] . Warning though its slightly image heavy, all images are mine unless they are a mug shot, or otherwise stated as someone elses. I am currently working on the third issue getting things together for it for release the 30 of Oct.
Later today I will be attending the Longview Symphony Orchestra session opening, they are performing Beethoven's Symphony No 9 in D minor. It should be an amazing experience for me.

------------------------------

It seems I'm having a busy school semester. If trying to keep my GPA at a 3.5 or above isn't enough work as it is, I'm also working for the paper, as some of the members of #photographers know. As it were, my English instructor conned me into working for the paper on my second day of school. I was under the assumption I would merely write an article or two and take pictures. Busy, busy, busy, that's what I am, and will continue to be till the end of school. So far, I have five articles or the idea for five articles, majority of photography, secondary layout lead, co-lead on typography not to mention all the rest of my classes that I have to attend. Add what I just told you to lessons for piano and violin off campus and what do you have, a workaholic.
The five articles are pretty straight forward. New agriculture instructor, music department enrollment numbers, All-Star baseball student, Transformers review and an article on the funny headlines in national papers, simply put a black humor piece. How many do I have written? Three. As for the photos, sports, sports, and more sports it seems, I will show a few down below. Nothing too spectacular, though one will be in two papers, The Eagle and the Mount Pleasant Daily Tribune. What I place below neither will be in the papers. Two separate pitchers doing their thing:
</sub>

------------------------------

 Okay, it seems my last journal was a complete failure, only Jeff told us how he was inspired. That's cool, damn you people! Ahem, I'm okay.

Anyway, I decided since I only have one actual class at the college on Wednesdays, and only two on Mondays, one at 8:00 am, and one at 6:00 pm, I would start my symphony. This is a major undertaking for me. So far I have only laid out the basic structure of the piece of music and the instrument listings, and have completed around 12 measures of actual music writing.

The basic structure comes down to this:

Movement 1: Binary Form-Andante-Allegro-Moderato
Movement 2: Slow movement-Adagio/Andante
Movement 3: Scherzo-Presto
Movement 4: Rondo/Ternary Form-Andante

My instrument listing (voices to be called upon):
Woodwinds:
Piccolo, Flute 1&2, Oboe 1&2, English Horn, Clarinet 1&2, Bass Clarinet, Bassoon, Contrabassoon
Brass:
Horn 1&2, Trumpet in Bb 1&2, Trombone 1&2, Tuba
Strings:
Violin 1&2, Viola, Violoncello, Contrabass
Percussion and Extras:
Timpani (Bb), Xylophone, Orchestra Percussion (Gran Cassa, Snare, Cymbals), Harp

I have decided to write the symphony in the key of Bb, its easier for the instruments to play it without any tricky key signatures for other no transposing instruments. As for those transposing instruments, its pretty easy we well, especially the clarinets and trumpets and horns. I spec' this symphony should take about a year to write, as I will be mulling over each measure and section before placing it down on paper. Wish me luck on that.

As for the dedication of this symphony, since it is my first, it goes to *JDPhotography as will the majority of them of course. Shes the one that gives me my inspiration on a daily basis, so I think it is only natural that she should be the dedication.

Thats about it really.

And though admittedly such a thing has never happened, still it is conceivable that someone might possibly have escaped from their singing; but from their silence certainly never." - Franz Kafka (from The Complete Stories pg. 431)

------------------------------

I'm pretty sure as the people that watch me, or are one of the many friends I have on dA, you understand my love of music, not to mention the impact it has had on my life. But this journal isn't about me. It's about you.

This is what I want you to do, send me a note, tell me how music has made an impact on your life whether you are a musician or not. When I get a new note I will paste verbatim what you tell me with a link to your page. So other people will be able to see how and possibly in what way music has affected your being.

 Why is *Impersonated inspired by music, this is what he tells us:

"Music really touched me, when I was roughly 10 or 11. I remember my father came home with an Old Ozzy Osbourn album. The album, was called 'Tribute' and was much styled after 'Blizzard of Ozz'. Now, I'm not much of the Prince of Darkness but I fall in love with the last song on the album. A song, that was written by the inspiration behind the album. He was, Randy Rhoads, a former guitarist who died having a hell load of fun. Why was he so important to me? Heavy-metal is good music if you're a canned-rebellious teen. However, Randy gave much more than that to me. He showed me that Bill & Ted really could hang out, and mingle with Socrates, he introduced the classical influence on me. Cited directly from Wikipedia, His unique neo-classical metal style of playing set him apart from other guitarists of the late 1970s and early 1980s. He was a devoted student of classical guitar....Randy had the mix down. To this day, I get emotional when I hear that 14th track. Listening to him expand his talent all over that 4 minute recording session. The track name is 'Dee'. A 51 second song of fast/slow key changes and on your feet melodies. Keeps me inspired day after day to keep listening to and keep dreaming."

I got a smile out of reading it, because in a way I was inspired the same, but by a band director, and he mentioned Bill & Ted, I like that movie, good movie. Hop on over to Jeff page (*Impersonated) and see how the art of music as inspired his photography. Read his journals, check out the thumbs he has featured, and I recommend it; watch him. He's a smart guy and has a good eye on him. His writing style is fluid, and intelligent.

</sub>

------------------------------

<sub>
Now I know I haven't done a thumb feature in ages but, that said, Jessica (*JDPhotography), Jeff (=Impersonated) and Jeff (*znamenny) indirectly gave me a kick in the ass to do one, whether they know it or not, so me combing through 5 pages worth of pictures of nothing but violin's that to me showed what I felt about the instrument and its power, so really this journal is to them. Firstly, Jessica, without her, I wouldnt be playing the instrument to start with, shes my world, as is music, the absence of either would have my world falling apart. She the smartest, most beautiful woman in the world, and can't play a lick on a violin, so I have to make up for both of us. Jeff, hes just a smart witty bastard, and I appreciate that in a person. And lastly, Jeff, always willing to give me musical advice, and is just a kick ass man all around. Really show them some love people, especially znamenny, this man has dedicated his life to music, if that in itself is not a worthy trait to show some love I dont know what the fuck is. Again thank you three for somehow indirectly getting me off my ass and doing a feature over an instrument I love.

------------------------------

<sub>
To get down to business... I got two new bows, both excellent, the Loebel is pretty responsive and light weight, an excellent pernambuco bow, the second one, the Duavl is extremely responsive and is a dream to play with. We will be looking into my next violin soon enough.

In other news, instead of 17 credit hours for my first semester at college I will be taking 21, so a fuck-ton of work, but its cool, most I feel are sleeper classes, like English, History, Theory, Music Appreciation, Speech, and a Humanities elective. The only one I will really have to pay attention to is the math, cause I suck at math. Thats all for now.

[edit:] I spoke with my faculty adviser earlier today. I got the music scholarship Makes all the hours Im taking fucking worth it to know I came out on top for a scholarship. I also found out that Music Theory would be more of a one on one class with Clinton. As for the individual instruction per instrument, I may very well be able to stay at the music studio and get college credit for the work I put in there as well. All in all fun times.
</sub>

The small little bits in it, how the sun hits certain areas of the rocks and others not, the silt thats been left behind. I could look at this picture all damn day, theres so much in it that it makes me blink a lot. There's not a lot of drama in this picture, but there doesn't have to be, a picture doesn't have to have drama to be good, regardless of what those famous photographers told you that one night you were wasted at Sally's all you can eat poon buffet. This is tranquil and for that I enjoy it even more. To me it demonstrates the complexity of simplicity. Basically said, I think it's pretty rad, and since I am Exen, what I say makes it so.

------------------------------

<sub>
New journal css, thanks to my sunshine love for finding me one, I will alter it further once I have time and whatnot. I like to keep everything nice and neat and matched hence the looking for one that worked with the devart colours. I may put a background and what not with it later on. Who's to say.

Currently I am working on a string orchestra piece. Carmena sounds pretty good right now, but I will be making correction and changes of course. The full title of the piece is Carmena Effloresco: Fantasia in D for String Orchestra. For those whom watch me and don't know what a string orchestra is, it consist of the following voices: Violin 1 & 2, Viola, Violoncello and Contrabass.

In other news, I got Edward Elgar's "Enigma" Variations or as they are actually cataloged as Variations on an Original Theme for orchestra, Op. 36. Some pretty good stuff. I did how ever notice while listening to some Igor Stravinsky the other night, there appears to be a phrase in his The Rite of Spring, Scenes from Pagan Russia to be very close to Elgar's 'Dorabella'. And if you guys want to hear a great musical joke listen to 'Dorabella', its very humorous to me, and Im sure if you read the story on it, it would be to you as well.

I am as well busy, and staying busy, working hard on a piece of violin study, and also doing my piano work thats assigned. Last week's lesson was fun, playing and chatting with my teacher Mrs. Warren. She assigned me to learn a short 8 bar arrangement from Haydn's 'Surprise' Symphony, as well as to work up some variations on Old MacDonald, which I have since done. I was also assigned some scales to learn, not sure why seeing as I use them a good bit while composing at the piano as it were. The scales assigned were: C F G and D. Learning an instrument is fun, and I suggest any one do it. It can really give you something to relax to and learn. As with my studies musically, I hear more things more clearly now than before while listen to other pieces. I love every minute of it.

If you are ever looking to talk about photography, please stop by #photographers. I'm not saying we talk about it a lot, seeing as its just what binds the members together; but we have been known to talk about it on occasion. Anyway until I update next time. Have fun.
</sub>

------------------------------

I was reading Danie's journal of the same name a few minutes back, before lighting a smoke and saying to myself, meh fuck it may as well. So here is 13 self perceptions about myself.

1. I believe in being fair. No matter the situation.

2. I am a simple man.

3. I would be utterly lost in this world without my gf.

4. The meaning of life for me, is ironically not music. It's laughter.

5. That *JDPhotography is without a doubt the most wonderful woman ever to walk the face of this earth.

6. To know where you are going, know where you have come from.

7. That regardless of your skin's melanin combination, your social standing, religious or non -religious beliefs; you and I are very much the same person.

8. I'm prideful.

9. I'm lazy.

10. The musical thirst causes me to want to learn to a intermediate level, every instrument in the symphonic orchestra. Curiosity is my greatest downfall.

11-13. See above. Told you I was lazy.

My sub ran out but my gf thought my page looked so sad so she gifted me with another years subscription. Thank you Sunshine.
</sub>

 Yeah so I couldn't think of a proper title for this, which is of no consequence either way. Umm, I start Piano lessons for the summer on the 6th. Yes I do believe that's it.

[update]

Well, I went to the lesson, it was more of a discussion. The instructor just wanted to find out where I was. She gave me a book to play through the week to see if I should skip it and move on etc.

I'm waiting on more books to arrive. Rimsky-Korsakov's Principles Blatter's Instrumentation and Kostka's Tonal Harmony. That's it really.

[update v.2]

Received Blatter's Instrumentation/Orchestration. Thanks to Jeff for the recommendation. It's a pretty awesome book. Hard cover 1980 edition, got it for a total of $9.80 on eBay. Great buy. Now I'm simply waiting on the other two.

[update v.3]

The Kostka book came today. Very nice, thick hard cover as well, its a teaching text of course. I shall get through it during the summer as I work my way through with the other books.

[update v.4]

It's my 4 year anniversary being together with *JDPhotography.

Yes indeedy do, it was xmas in may for me. My gf in all her love and patience decided to give me yet more stuff to wrap my wee head around. So lets go over the list of goodies I recently got.

Motion Picture Soundtracks

<sub>
Star Wars Saga: Yes that's correct the whole thing, all six, from TPM to ROTJ. It's funny, my gf doesnt really like Star Wars but in all her love and patience, she allows me to indulge my geekdom. Thats love people!
Harry Potter: Okay it goes without saying, I wont ever read the books, wont pick them up, I wont watch the movies unless they are on dvd, that way I can stop it if I just dont like it. But, the music is something completely different. It's actually good.
Blood Diamond: The movie won a big award (oscar). But the music is really what makes this movie emotional. Just mute the movie and see for yourself.
Braveheart: What can I really say, Im a big fan of pipe and drums. That and everyone loves a man in a kilt, if worn right.
Jurassic Park 1-3: Jurassic Park was the first OST (official sound track) I ever bought, twice. The music most defiantly had a lasting impact on me, as a young kid at the time, and even now, as a composer. If your interested in film scoring study that album, look for the cues.
300: Haven't seen the movie, but Tyler Bates did the music scoring on it, so going off the Constantine work he did with Klaus Badelt, I decided to give it a shot. Very action packed and nice inclusion of the electric guitar.
V for Vendetta: Marianelli's music was 50% ass whoop of the movie, and the sprinkled 1812 in the opening and finale, well thats 100% ass kickery right there.
The Rock: The movie has Sean Connery in it for fucks sake, what more could you ask for. I just liked the movie, and the music.
The Pianist: Do you like Chopin? Good, cause theres a good bit on there. And it really is a lovely movie and ost to listen to.
Highlander: Who doesn't like Queen. Freddy Mercury was the man.

Software
MakeMusic's Finale 2007 w/ Garritan's Personal Orchestra

When I first installed it, it looked just like Finale 2006, which I still keep on my computer. Thats about where everything changed. I created a new document (score) and used the VST version of the instruments I am use to hearing... I almost peed my pants. It is just that fucking awesome. Now when I want to bitch out the cellos for not having tight third and fourths, I can just put them on mute and still hear the music as though I was sitting in a rehearsal. Damn near made me cry. If you have the cash to fork over for this, do it. I know what some of you Sibelius users are going to say, finale sucks yadda yadda yadda. Meh Im still better.... than... YOU.

Books

I got two books in my wee box I got, the first one which is most excellent, is called, Invention and Composition of Music by Arthur Hutchings. It's an older book but damn fascinating. Has a lot of examples etc. Kind of technical, but still a good book, right up my alley anyway. The second book I got was, Essential Dictionary of Music. It has instrument ranges in the back which I have already tagged for easy access. Three books that are on their way but haven't made it yet are, Suzuki Violin School 1 and 2 and The Principles Of Orchestration by Rimsky-Korsakov.

I would say thats one hell of a xmas gift. So like seriously go tell my gf shes awesome, because you know she is, you cant deny it, I cant deny it. She's just that fucking awesome, awesome with a capital A and WESOME!

You know it almost goes without saying, that my gf does indeed love me very much, and for that I am grateful. She knows I love music, its creation, its production everything about it. But you know its not really music that gets me out of bed every day, its her. She backs me 210% with my fascination with this aural art. So please as a favour to me, do please go and see her art, I personally would really appreciate it, she doesnt get much time to do it, as shes a very busy woman. So please click here --> *JDPhotography and just have a look around, say hi. Wont kill you, I assure you.

N.b. I also got two boxes of shapes (the best fucking biscuit in the whole known universe. And a big bag of Chicos (alla crack).
</sub>

"Music, the only art, which we cannot see, nor touch but yet makes us feel more than man was meant to feel at all."
</sub>

 Its about time for a new journal wouldnt you say? Okay to start, Ive started to put together a site for my compositions. There will be no audio available, because I dont trust the internet. So the only thing that will be offered there for download are PDF files of the scores. If you see a score you like and want an individual copy of a selected part, leave a message in the guest book on how you can be reached. The site is Thomas Simpson Music

Second thing to talk about, work. I'm doing a lot of it. Ive started working out bits and pieces of a seven section piece called, "The Life of An Extraordinary Woman". Its a musical journey through the life of my girl friend from her birth to the present. Its a scored story basically. It wont have a libretto just music, so its my job to show the listener the life of my girl friend without words. It's going to be a very large piece, at the current standing Im estimating the amount of pages for the finished score will be around 210. To give you and idea of exactly how large a scope this is, Beethoven's 9th Symphony in D minor "Choral" is around only 189 pages long. Lets hope I can live up to my own actual talent with this and give it the best I can.

Another few works I am doing are piano pieces. The first one is called, "Flat Black Key Waltz" Its in Cb Major, so its only using the black keys on the piano. The second piece is currently called, "Sea Farer". I wrote down some of the piece earlier last week but havent since worked on it.

Shortly I will be moving out of the first book for my violin lessons. I very much dislike Muller-Rusch's book, it feels so deary, it might just be the paper stock its printed on. The next book will be the first one in the Suzuki series. Last lesson I played through a quarter of it and found it enjoyable.

I'm ready for the fall semester to start at college because I am gnawing at the bit to get into Theory 1 class. Not to mention take Music Appreciation. Yeah I know some of you had it and probably hated it, but Im rather interested in it, all aspect of music interest me. But moreso the instrumental kinda, because you cant straight up tell someone how you feel you have to use instrument and whatnot to do it.

I do suggest you visit a friend while your reading all this crap. *znamenny hes a chorus director in South Carolina is I remember correctly. Granted its kinda an inside joke for chorus writers and string writers to kinda pity one another, god know I couldnt handle some of the ego on those singers, and Im sure there plenty of assholes among the many violinist, violist and cellist out there, but seriously swing by and check out his work. He's a nice guy for a chorus director (yeah Im taking a dig at ya dude. ).

As normal, until next time, have fun.
*Update* I passed my test with flying colours, it was a oral test at the piano. So I wont be taking Fundamentals this fall instead I will be going straight into Theory 1.

Okay back to normal entries. So what have I been up to? Well, lets see for once, I'm as the subject says, college bound, all I need to do if get the IRS to fax my 1040EZ to me so I can fill out the FAFSA and send it in. I will be majoring in music. And you though that little eighth note was just there for looks.

Ive spoken with the department head at the local college a few times and shown him a couple of my pieces. He says he really impressed with my abilities. The pieces I showed him were, "Violoncello Duet in C" which displayed my understanding of contrapuntal (counterpoint) guidelines and how to use them successfully; and its a pretty kick ass duet mind you. The second piece I showed him was, "The Battle of Hurtgen Forest". I showed him a MIDI representation of it and how it might sounds with players. He was rather curious as to how I came up with it and I explained it, which made him even more curious about it.
And the last piece I showed him was an experiment I did with Beethoven's sinfonia keys. I took each key from all nine of his sinfonias and made a triad of them in the bass register. I then took each note from that chordal shape and made a melody atop it in the treble register. He was rather amused by my display of atonal melody and harmony in the little piece. Which leads me to this...

I have a theory test April 2nd at 2:00pm to determent exactly how many theory classes I will skip in my pursue of an Associate of Art in Music degree.

He also informed me I would have to have at least two years piano training to enter into most normal bachelor programs, so I have started work on preparing myself for that as well by borrowing a buddy's keyboard, (I let him borrow my acoustic guitar).

Dr. Clinton also informed me they were building a recording studio of professional quality near the ensemble room, and next year some time I should take advantage of it and have a few players record some of my pieces to get an early start on my portfolio which I will need for my doctorate. That being said, in around about way, Clinton said if I didn't major in Composition and Conducting, I would be a damned fool for it. Which basically saying, he read my mind, as I was going to major in composition anyway, just have to tack that conducting on to the ass end of it, I mean who wouldn't want to be a human metronome right? Anyway, so thats what Ive been up to so far, composing, and studying for my up coming test, which hopefully I do well on, because in all honesty I don't want to have to do the fundamentals of music. If you are going to major in music, you should already know the fundamentals as it were. Anyway, have fun people.
</sub>

I remember cutting my hair really short a few years back for it, at least my gf tells me I did, I have horrible memory to be honest, hence all the sticky notes on my computer screen. Another cool thing if you can't shave your head or get a little smack down going with a dye job is just purchase a bear, I have a little bear, I also have various bears that my girl friend has sent me from various cancer events. As it impacts both of us personally. So wanna have a go at the shop for the World's GREATEST Shave? So far, over two million women of all ages have run, walked or jogged to raise over £140 million in sponsorship for the charity. This year we hope to raise £60 million for our life-saving work by bringing an amazing 800,000 women together to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
Bloody Rules:

The player of this "game" starts with the topic "6 weird habits/things about yourself" and people who get tagged need to write a journal about their 6 weird habits/things as well as stating the rules clearly. In the end, you need to choose the next 6 people to be tagged and list their names. Don't forget to leave a comment that says "you are tagged" in their devpage comments and tell them to read yours.... "

[1] I have a very bad short term memory problem, where I cant remember what I wore or ate 3 days ago.
[2] After a concussion to the head followed by a mild case of amnesia I developed a way of remembering things of importance by picturing it as a book with pages in my head.
[3] Ive learned so many instruments in my life, but due to laziness Ive forgotten how to play most of them, and are rather rubbish now.
[4] My toenails cant have any white nail (the white bit that grows in the front of the nail) because if it does grow it pesters me so much I have to trim them, and cant do anything until I do.
[5] I examine every utensil I am going to eat with for a few minutes before thinking its okay, and I will go through 3-4 glasses before I find one I will drink out of. I do it every time without pause.
[6] I write things without a final edit because I edit as I go and therefore if its not to my liking at the very end I will just toss it in the rubbish bin without second thought. Lost two novels that way.
[link] - Cello Solo For Jessica

I wrote the piece as I normally do in Finale 2006, fantastic program, I wrote it because some time ago my girlfriend mentioned she loved violoncello music, so while she was at work yesterday I wrote it out for her. Its a very short piece.

[link] - String Ensemble No.2 in E Major

Wrote a few weeks after the completion of No.1

Also it should be noted that I have completed my first instrumental piece based on a photo, the photo is Matthew's Sunrise from my scraps, I have yet to upload it but I will sooner or later. ~jerkbot01 suggested I try Long Exposure No.1 for my next piece and also suggested Sailboat Colour. I will take his suggestions and start on them soon. Other than that, the same ol same ol. Have fun people
Nothing, well nothing that isnt already known. Still reengraving Tchaikovsky's Russischer Tanz. The violin sections and strings in general are long because they are the backbone and head of the whole thing. Nevertheless, Im also working on a new string ensemble, was a quintet, now just a quartet. I dropped the contrabass. The violoncello will be pulling the f-clef duty as normal.

Got a job, start it Monday.

Jessica bought me a violin for my christmas present. Been working on two full orchestra works. Basically saying, Ive been working on tonnes of music. But I have also been able to get out and shoot a little bit. Using the winter light to my advantage. Other than that, sleeping and spending time with my girlfriend is basically what I do. Im a simple man that revels in simple things. Have fun people.

They arent very espensive considering I do black and white all the time. I also changed my blog address. No longer is it "Darkroom-junkie.blogspot.com" but instead its "synchrotone.blogspot.com"
Added a bunch of images to it adjusted others etc. I took away the Thumbhour thing because I am never at it, I never make it home in time, I'm always at the ass end of it But, that doesnt mean you people should not attend it.
As for the daily updates of whats going on and other rambling bullshit, just check my blog I update it pretty regulary. I am working on writing a Sonata at the moment so thats going to take a very long time to do all that I need to do, I have the first movement started at the moment and I still need to do the fantasia sections and the restatement of the first movement. Not exactly sure what Key I will do it in but I will find out as I work which Key it falls into, More than likely I have been favouring the Key of A so who knows I may gradually move to that key with some minor chromatics outside the key as I work. In the end we shall see my progression to the finale.

Anyway thats about all there is to say really, Im doing the best I can with what I have and making damned sure its up to snuff. The most I have been able to complete art wise is a guitar to Fl Studio piano roll conversion chart, and thats just because I needed it more than not needing it. Ive worked a little bit on my blog over at blog spot, basically anything I can do within a five minute time frame.

My finances are coming along, and possibly next week, I may buy a new laptop to work on and write on, the one I am looking at has a memory card reader, so thats cool. There really isnt much to tell when it comes down to it. Weeks and days are mere blurs in the rear view mirror at the start and end of the day when it comes down to it. It's almost funny, Sunshine and I discuss our days and weeks when we have a chance since we both work so much. She tells me her days arent as hard as mine, and I likewise dont think my days are as hard as hers. I suppose its because Im not so much of a people person. But what do you expect, we are opposites.

I havent really mastered or produced any new songs of note lately, I suppose its because I feel so rushed that I havent the chance to really work everything out to a fine detail. Granted I have made little tracks here and there. Once I get everything squared away with Australia and have some time to myself, say on the weekend or something when I dont work a Saturday for the extra 10 hours overtime, I may sit my ass down and work out a song. I'm also looking for a good mp3 music hosting site thats not as difficult and annoying to work with as mp3.com.

Thats practically it for me, work, no time for photography, barely time to sit my ass down and write some music... speaking of work... I need to go to bed, I have to be up at 4:30 am.

Currently I am working on Fruity Loop songs. Not to mention my story and possibly a few other things as well. Note: Never play mock-futbol in the summer heat. My body isnt what it once was, this should have been noticable with Tennis '01, another great adventure with a near death. I never thought I would sweat as much since it was only around 96 degrees, not really all that hot, but damn it Im out of shape, dont make run after a cookie, I will kill you, hows ya mum?

In other news, Just had my anniversary again, Im a lucky man, the rest of you sorry souls, just arent. Maybe in another life. Wanna cookie? Noodles Please. I really need more vocal samples. Anyway the music Im working on is or can be categorized into three things, Trance, Hardcore or Trancecore. Depending on my bpm (beats per minute) and the feel I am going for.

This might sting, my friend and I were talking yesterday while mixing a song and he proposed that Hitler was Jesus reincarnated and taking revenge... he needs off the drugs.... less maryjane for him and more hobbies that dont involve lighters and brain cells.
You may have noticed that while the community is very friendly and will give you support for all your work, real honest critique is a rarity - Well #photographers seeks to amend that with its ThumbHour feature in which you can get honest and constructive critique of your photography from a variety of photographers, from amateur to professional levels.

You can not only show your work to be critiqued but join the critics panel itself and give your own thoughts to the work you see and can even freely move between these levels meaning a full 100% participation in the event. People are invited to critique both in the chatroom and on peoples deviation pages, add favourites, devwatch and the greatest work may even be featured permanently by the #photographers channel or the Unknown Artists feature that seeks to expose unknown and under-appreciated artwork to a wider audience on deviantArt.

I decided it was time for a new journal title and so I decided to name it Dreams of the artificial eye. Its all symbolic and all that horse shit and I doubt you want me to get into it here. Anyway, Im waiting on my new paper stock to come in and then it will be in the darkroom for some serious printing, I havent printed in it feels almost since the 12th, and thats a very long time. As soon as I get the money Imma trade Jules some paper a timer and a cable release for a lens, sometimes photogs just got to stick together. Hopefully the paper will get him started in printing and I will help him out the best I can with this. I am no master by far, but Im no idiot in the matter either. A new featured artist will be posted as soon as I can find one I feel like featuring.
The other day when I got my 6x6 negative carrier with it was a book. Its an old book used by photogs in the second world war, quite a bit of history there, its from 1942, I am going to test its exposure recommendations against that of a Weston Master 2 light meter and a TTL meter on my nikon F601 and see how they compair. Im curious to see how they stand up to one another. Hopefully soon I will have some new pictures to show you guys, granted Im sitting on quite a few as Jessica and Jules both know well enough. I might pull some of them out of storage and display them, then again I may very well not. We shall see in the end what I decide.
I think its a wise choice on my part, never do anything that once was fun and no longer is just for the sake of it. So I think I should move back to my root, back to what I did before it, when it was fun. Back to the wonder of the world, not try and impress anyone with anything especially myself, that seemed to get me into trouble. Dont expect a single thing from a single negative. Keep to the basics and really really slow down my movements. With that said I finally give a feature. I havent featured anyone in a very long time I think. So without gilding the lilly anymore.

This feature goes to ~bonebleached I happened upon him by accident, and only because he visited my page, I thought to check him out and was floored. The guy does some well executed works and seems to have fun in doing it too. And I think thats what photography should be about. Fun.
