I have finally found some kind of inspiration! How long it will last is anyone's guess! I went to the Dulwich Picture gallery last week, and it was lovely, some really great paintings, and a lot but one guy i really like. David Teniers the younger. He painted peasants.

Anyway .. working on some new ideas now! which is good.

I really need to update this more! lack of motivation is distinctly the issue here ... I have done next to no artwork over the past year or so, and have lost the majority of inspiration.

I'm not sure what to put it down to ... full time work maybe? if so, then i'm not sure its very good for me. There is so much to be inspired by, and none of it seems to get through to me at the mo. I seem to have become a boring, uninspired potato, ... a braindead waste of space.

Hopefully this will change, but i just dont know really. Work seems to sap all of the very little energy I have, and whatever time i have left i seem to squander away, and have little ... mostly nothing, to show for it.

Is it being in London? whenever I come back here i seem to loose all oomph, maybe its just my version of London? Norfolk and Cornwall inspire me much more, there is room to breathe there, and let your imagination run away with you. But then I've always had the time to do so in these places, and the people to inspire me.

I think I'm gonna need a change pretty soon ... I might not last beyond December at work anyway .. the industry's going pretty tits up at the mo, so a backup plan might be a good idea.

Phoomph... that was a rant and a half ...and theres still more to say...

I've been on trains, planes, taxis, coaches, cars, and boats, and seen lots of friends and their degree shows.

I've been suitably inspired by all this, and its now just a bloody shame i'm back to work tomorrow. Yay! I've decided i need to move back to Cornwall, and just need to find a means of doing it that dont involve me doing a pants job, and living off dust and pencil sharpenings. its not asking much eh!

xx

Its been a while since i wrote here, but i've finally finished my Allotment project, with quite good results if i say so myself. I spent ages calculating all the measurements and trying to make it all fit togehter propperly so that building it would be easier and less stressfull.

Building it was easier and less stressfull ... however there was much swearing and cursing over the 2 days it took to assemble, and major surgery happened to a couple of bits of it (messed it all up at the last minute, so i had to replace the backdrop, and the potatoes under the ground) but i was carefull and it all turned out alrght

This is, in my opinion the best project i've done, (the one done to the highest standards anyways) although there is less graphic design than the Industrial revolution project, researching was easier, and there was much more consideration went into the mechanisms, and workings of it.

Anyways .... i'm supposed to be typing the into for my dissertation right now .... i think its the hardest part .... i hate starting things ... that might be why i've left it untill last .... but i'm having propper troubles trying to think what to write DAMN SURREALISTS!!

Alan told me to do an epic project next ... so i chose the 7 wonders of the world, and a proposal for 7 information packs ..... YAY more stress ..... Love it

Ok so i'm back at uni now and i have been for about 4 weeks ... its so nice being back, but i dont have the internet, so updating this will be a little delayed. its so nice getting back into college work, but theres loads of work to be done, and sooo little time to do it all in. Being in the 3rd year, we've got to get our websites up and running, the dissertation is looming over our heads, and on top of that project work. Though we have a trip to new york to look forward to, where we will get horribly drunk, and take our portfolios round to agents. It will be lots of fun. Yesterday we had a meeting about new designers exhibition in london in july, most of the group are going to enter .. including me ... the space will cost about £70-80 but loads of people go and look around it, so it will be a good chance to get my work out there. .... I'm going to try and be in london that week too, and i'm hoping that other people will try to get there aswell, since it will be the last chance we're going to get to see each other before we all leave for home, or wherever.

I'm doing a 6 page pop up book on the industrial revolution at the moment ... deadline on monday though ... so i gotta get on...

After lots of hard work and stress i am now finished the 2nd year of my degree, its been so much fun, and so much better than the first year, but on the other hand, its gone so much faster, i can hardly believe i'm 2/3rds of the way through uni. I'm just not ready for it i dont think .... that big wide world that people talk about is a little daunting at this stage, and i'm quite happy bumming around in studentland living off borrowed money and not thinking about repayment.

Anyways i had my assessment yesterday ... and it went far better than i could ever imagine .... i was shocked at just how well it actually went. I went in and alan the course leader gave me the grades for the visual lessons, and they were much better than i had thought at first, a first for visual studies .... i did actually laugh when he told me..... and they gave me 90% for my negotiated projects!! the board game and pop up books, and beer labels .... i was so shocked. I couldnt have asked for a better grade. Apparently there is a big market for what i'm doing, and that makes it all the more relavant, which is great, and means there is actually some hope for me at the end of the course. I now have to live up to this grade though, the whole way through the third year ... which is going to be damn hard ... but hopefully fun on the way .

I'm staying in cornwall over the summer and working in a pub, i'm hoping that i will get the time to go out and explore cornwall a bit while i have the chance ... it would be silly i think to pass this oppertunity up. Also want to try some snorkelling, that should be good and lots of summery things i've missed through being nocternal for the past few summers.

Gonna try and get me a website up and running too ... save me some time and effort in the third year, and get me used to working with dreamweaver and other programes ... hopefully it will be lots of fun

thought i'd update this today ... trying to avoid writing my essay as much as possible ... its not too bad, since its on Dave McKean, but still ... 3000 words anyways ... been putting lots of the pop up book stuff on here ... the 'water page is from a 5 page pop up book on the earth .. the other pages being 'fire' 'air' 'earth' and ' life' i'll take a picture of the finished page in all its 3d glory when i get round to it ... and get more batteries for my camera

At the moment i'm working with Bjørn on a 3d pop up board game based around the fire of the great library of Alexandria its going well and its lots of fun, i'm making all the mechanisms and the board, and cover, and puzzle, and box, and he's making the character designs, pawns, tokens, rules, and recording voices and conversations on the cd that goes with it. Its been lots of fun and i'll get more stuff on here once its all finished. Its been put on the backburner for a while till we've finished the essays and visual studies and reportage and such though. which is a shame, but we're getting back to it soon

Hey there ... thought i'd come online and update this, since i havent been on here for a while. i've done a bit more work since the summer, and aim to do lots more I've been working on a pop up book lately, so no real flat artwork to show for it, though i think i might take some pictures when i've got the time.
I've really gotten into the pop up side of things, with paper engeneering and all that jazz, its lots of fun , and i never really considered information illustration before ... only narrative, though i think thats where i'm headed... thanks to my first attempt at a pop up book on iron age briton, which turned out to be the most fun i've had with paper .
