I recently got accepted to a great photography school in Copenhagen, they dont take alot of students so i feel extremely lucky, excited and scared at the same time. Its gonna be a hard year as they are known for pushing their students to a breaking point, I'd like to think im ready for it but time will tell i guess.

My goal is to put focus on Travelphotography wich i think is some of the most inspirational, educational and beautiful photography theres is and offcourse to inspire people to travel and learn more about this incredible place we share. I hope you enjoy it.

As my second feature in the continents series ive chosen South America. Some might argue that its not a continent in its own right but ive decided to split up the Americas into 3 parts (South America, Central America+Caribbean and North America) simply because they are culturally devided like that :)

South America has some of the most diverse landscape of any continent spanning over desert, swamplands, rainforest and even gletschers and icebergs in the far south.
Extremely influenced by the colonizations its been through the official languages of the countries stretch from Spanish, Portugese, English, French and surprisingly enough Dutch in Suriname.
It has brought us Capoeira, the Tango, Gabriel Garzía Marquez and the sounds of Samba and Bossa Nova... Dont you feel like going?

With this feature series I hope to shed some light on this amazing planet and the photographers who roam it one continent at a time, starting with the cradle of life: Africa.

In the globalized society we all live in it is amazing how little we actually know about the rest of mother earth. You might think its not important to know the capital of Uganda or the president of South Africa but fact is that involvement in the world will not only broaden your horizons and tickle you travel desire but it will give you a sympathy for the people on the other side of life and maybe even get you out of your chair. A great side effect is that you might realize how beautiful and diverse a planet we inhabit and how well worth a fight it is.

Travelphotography is an overlooked genre here on dA which isnt strange since its a composite of every genre imaginable with the only gathering touch being that its taken somewhere that isnt home, wich makes it hard to look up. Nevertheless it churns out some of the most inspirational, touching and beautiful images there is.

http://Fiksteufel.deviantart.com/journal/12897198/ Wed, 09 May 2007 08:15:53 PDT MikkelSommer landed in Copenhagen on May 1st concluding a 5 month trip through 8 nationstates, since then weve been busybees trying to catch up with friends, family, work and living situations. Its been fun and slighty weird arriving back home feeling a little restless and tired at the same time.

Much has happened while we were gone and still things are pretty much the same. Allthough i didnt think travelling would affect my friendships it has made them a hell of alot stronger, wich makes me kinda emotional :)
The Youthhouse in Copenhagen has been violently shut down wich we found out in Cambodia. Its a great loss for the cityas well as all the people who used it, but to look on the bright side (its not that bright) there will be thousands of happenings, demos and other great stuff going on throughout the summer to support the movement for a selfgoverned youthhouse, wich will propably be tons of fun and might even end up reuniting a polarized youth/BZ/leftish/hippie movement.

Its good to be back on dA, ive joined a new workgroup consisting of *timeisatraveller =DragonMercutio *PinkPetunia ~Coka-Rola-Geek *preconscious
Im really looking forward to learning from that experience and watching them evolve :chew:

Hmm what else i have 44GBs of pictures that i need to work through and hopefully ill begin addin some stuff soon (ive already submitted one pic) my camera is goin of to the repairs wich sucks ass but considering what its been through of dusty bumpy roads and other gruelling stuff its held up pretty well.

Im writing this from a small rather crappy internetcafe in Mandalay, Burma.. Ill be on the road for the next four months and wont be able to be remotely active on dA till i get home around the 1st of May. that is if all goes according to plan cause we might prolong the trip. When me and my amazing boyfriend get back we have plans to update our computer and that will hopefully make it possible for me to be abit more active in dA as ive wanted to be but havent been able to (a source of great guilt i might ad).

Meanwhile ive taken tons of pictures that i cant wait to take a proper look at when i get back home, hopefully ill be able to submit a truckload of great stuff :) In case anybody noticed ive been uploading some very different stuff from what i usually do, its not cause ive abonded anything its just me exploring the medium i guess.. Its weird how people get so used to seeing a special kind of images from you that they hardly react when you change things... My point of view is that i wouldnt be much of an aspiring photographer if i didnt try different things (all though i know im better at some things than other)

Heres a little update on my current situation:
We left for Bangkok on the 4th of December and stayed for 3 weeks in Thailand. Weve been in Burma for about 10 days now and are leaving on the 22th back to Thailand for a detox and some mountaintrekking. After that our trip takes us through Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, China and Japan wich will with out a doubt grant me numerous photo opportunities and many unforgettable experiences as it already has.

On a completely different note, 14% of the northpole melted in 2004 and it keeps on melting even when the winther is at its coldest?? This means that the entire thing will have dissapeared in less than a decade give or take. the consecvense is that sealevels will rise around 6-8 meters Everywhere!
MASSIVE CHAOS AND DESTRUCTION :fear:

I might be a sick puppy but since preperation is key, ive started compiling ideas of what to do before this happens (mostly for fun as the whole thing
seems completely surreal).

First of i need to visit all/most of the beautiful tropical island in Oceania/the Carribean and the Indian ocean preferably on a ship. These are places that ive always wanted to visit (YES! i have an island fetish) and they are in danger of disappearing, so im there (With my trusty Eidexe crew!) :excited:

And then when im done seeing the world ill have to sell my apartement, in Copenhagen a SERIOUSLY FLAT city! (:lol:) Bye alot of land in Transsylvania or Austria or somewhere really mountanous without being to cold.. And built a little anarchist collective with lots of towers or stilthouses so the water wont come get us! and then live happily ever after.

Meanwhile ive been at the best music festival in the world Roskilde to listen to some great bands and enjoy the atmosphere.
Ive also started a new job, a big step for me since all ive done is alot of activist stuff and offcourse different schools, and now this green anarchist is workin at an office....moral dillemma :nod: its to save up for me and my bfs travels this december so im just gonna have to live with it :shrug:

Yesterday my school threw a huge party in honour of the graduating pupils (thats me..yay!). We ate great pakistani food (vegetarian offcourse) and downed ALOT of red wine (me again..) then people held speaches, sang songs and acted weird to suck up to the teachers (no that wasnt me..) and by then i was to drunk to remember what happened, but i think there was dancing.
Crazy thing is i actually brought my brand new camera arghh luckily nothing happened to it and i was able to get some great slightly out of focus pics of my classmates :lol:. I might post a few of them when i get them sorted.

Anyways my workgroup is up and running :boogie: The people in my group are really talented so im looking forward to snatch some tricks from them ;) :wave: :wave:

1. I Luuuuv Sweetcorn...I eat it on everything!! :p

2. I absolutely have to wear shoes when i do the dishes.... :hmm:

3. I sit down in the shower, sometimes i bring a book...good times!

4. Sometimes i get really sensitive when i read, for example i was reading the latest Harry Potter book and i cried cause Hermione got good grades, Like "she so deserved it shes so clever :tears:" *shakes head* :lol: . I also shed a few tears when people do embarrasing stuff on telly, Idols is really hard to watch for me...

5. Im completely obsessed with travel guides, i read them front to back even ones for countries im not planning on visiting.
