On the holiday front. Going to Annecy with all my college friends to see some fantastic animation was great once again, and also going to a villa just outside Barcelona was particularly amazing. Eagles, lizards and bats buzzing around amazing views.

Oh and of course I can't forget my sisters wedding on New Years Eve, a great day was had by all present, all 200 of us. Plenty of whiskey also found a good home :)

He grew up in a wealthy family with a lot of influence in Texas his relations being senators and prominent lawyers . From an early age he was groomed to be the Governor of Texas and he studied law in college. It was in college that he began to drink heavily and his family shocked at his behaviour placed him in a mental institution where he was given electro shock treatment, the result of this being that he lost his short term memory. Van Zandt at this time was inspired by Hank Williams and by the album the Times they are a Changin' by Bob Dylan and so he decided to become a songwriter. Throughout his life he never really had anything more than a cult following however and he struggled to achieve any real fame though his fellow musicians respected his music greatly. By all accounts he was a loner and spent much of his time in solitude in Colorado, he died in 1997.
When I hear his music it kind of reminds me of the structure of Hank Williams music and the sensitivity of Leonard Cohen but thats just me. Personally I think he would have made a great Governor of Texas. There is a clip on Youtube called Townes van Zandt in Heartworn Highway, in it he plays the song "Waiting around to die", it is pretty moving stuff and pulls at the heart strings so I will leave it up to you to search it out if you want to.

I recently received the invitation to exhibit art work at the Liverpool Irish Festival [link] in Liverpool later on this year and felt that if I did a series of cliched Irish characters It would suit the theme of the festival. I have already done rough drafts of five possible paintings, those being:

1. A Garda
2. A Priest
3. A Butcher
4. A Nosey Neighbour
5. A Hurler

I do however, need to have about five more of these characters to fill the brief so If anyone can think of any more stereotypical Irish characters please let me know.
