So a couple of days ago we had a nasty storm. It dumped a couple of inches of rain and there was tons of lightning-- you know, the whole shebang. I went downstairs and before I could go back up and unplug my laptop, the power goes out. No big deal. We've got flashlights. Once I got to my room I noticed something odd about my computer. It was off. Usually during a storm or a power glitch, my computer will still be on and running because I keep it plugged in to the wall. I hate working solely off of battery.

I hit the power button on my laptop; nothing happens. No indication of life. I pull the battery out and put it back in. Still no life.

The following morning I get in contact with Dell. I talk with a rep and he reassures me that there probably wasn't any data loss. Yay! They want to see if there was any other damage, so they overnighted a box to me. Thank goodness for warranties-- They're bloody worth the extra investment.

So I shall be without my laptop for probably a week or less, depending.

Things really started looking good. I figured out why he wasn't interested in millet (a seed grain that many budgies love and are trained with), and I moved it to one of his preferred perches. In four hours he nearly destroyed the millet spray I'd left for him.

On Thursday night, I came home after work and we watched Valkyrie. 20 minutes before it ended, I hear this terrible squawking noise. The noise is too loud for it to have come from my room, so I fear someone (possibly mom or dad) has let him out of his cage. I bolt up the stairs and against the dark I see a black figure. Indy. I finally stop Indy and I'm scared that he's got my little bird pinned under him. I lift him and thankfully there is no bird. I pass the cat over to one of my brothers. To my left, a very frightened budgie sits, breathing hard. I eventually called for a towel and cover the bird and safely put him back in his cage. I cover the cage to help calm him down. I cannot look for injuries because it would be too stressful and I haven't worked with him very long.

Friday morning Tau looks... not himself. He holds his right foot above the perch and his right wing seems to bother him a lot. We start looking for vet hospitals who have avian specialists on hand. The only openings any vet has are on Tuesday. We fear then that we cannot wait that long.

I tell my mother that birds, especially small ones, can die of stress. We talk in the garage more and come to the conclusion that even if we could take him to the vet right then, could they really give him anything to ease the stress or fix what's wrong with him?

I cried. My biggest fear was coming home from work and finding that my baby is dead.

My worst fear came to me right after I returned. I step in the door and my dad tells me that "He didn't make it."

It doesn't matter that I've had him such a short time. I grew very fond and protective of this little bird almost immediately. And now I'm bloody crying like an idiot and I'm feeling horrible because it could have been prevented! I accidentally left the door to the cage open.

Part of me still doesn't want to believe he's gone.

At thist point I'm a little worried, and I yell out to the girls in front. One of them comes back and freaks out. She swears a few times and then tries to assess the situation. There's no way my finger was coming out unless the blade itself had its screws removed.

So I'm standing back there, with Gretchen holding the bulk of this blade mechanism, and I'm bleeding into her gloved hands and making a mess of blood on the floor. D: I also apologized a lot. I don't know why. I guess I feel bad whenever something bad happens.

So Jamie calls the paramedics. The first guy who began examining called into his radio. I don't remember what all he said into his radio, but when he called for a phillips screwdriver I just had to laugh.

They finally find a screwdriver, and once they begin on the first screw, the stupid blade TIGHTENED against my finger more. So they had to stick a piece of wood into the other end to prevent hurting me further.

None of my family was home/available, and the other girls would have been too squeemish to be able to drive me to the ER. So instead I get to take a trip in an ambulance. Once I got to the hospital the doctor tried to numb my hand. He stuck me twice with a novacaine type of drug, and it didn't help the pain at all. In fact, the freaking needles he used bumped against my bones a couple of times which hurt pretty bad. When I told him it still hurt, he stuck me a third time. The next time he asked if it was feeling better, I lied to him. I just didn't want to be stuck again with another needle.

I forgot to mention this. The blade sliced through my fingernail. They were telling me that if it did enough damage I'd have to have my fingernail removed completely. Thankfully I didn't have to get rid of it.

So... yeah. This has been a wierd day. My hand hurts like a bitch and it's super awkward to type without my middle finger. I have a psychology paper to do today, too. Blahhh.



>_< I guess that's it. I'm really sorry for those I owe art. I was drawing and trying to get stuff done yesterday, and if I can stifle the pain with enough advil I'll see about drawing.

*Also the blood and all would have looked seriously cool if it didn't hurt so bad. xD Movie gore is interesting... but it's crazy when it's real and happening to you.

And today, I was trying to coax Aarka over to me so I could brush her teeth. I pointed to the floor, and she thought I had the laser light pen. My hand became the nonexistant object she was after, and she bit me.

She never bites me intentionally, unless we're just being goofy. And it never hurts. She knows her boundaries.

But this hurts like hell. At first glance, it was just a pinched nerve on my pinky. A minute later, my finger's bleeding.

Acrylics are great, but they dry so stinking fast x__x. You'd basically have to be in a vacuum to be able to have them work properly. Or maybe just have skills. Apparently I don't.

Umm... I received Okami yesterday :3. Unfortunately, if my brother picks up the controller, he takes over and proves, once again, that I'm horrid at games. (Unless it's tetris 2. Then I do just fine.)


Oh, my computer crashed, got repaired (somewhat), and then took a downward spiral toward its electronic suicide. So I ended up buying a used computer with more capabilities than my old one. It's fast. I love it. And I love keeping my CRT <3. Why? Because flat screens give me unimaginably bad headaches. Yes they do.

Basically, this was a completely useless entry just to get the old one off the page ;D.

Not.. a chance. I finished Thr3e first, and moved on to the two I rented, which were House and Blink, only to find out that I was becoming a zombie to the world by constant ripping through at least one book per day. I'm almost halfway through Blink. So much for using them on the trip.

So, July 4th's coming sooner than I thought. I leave the country on that day.

Maybe I can manage to find a few more books by Dekker and horde them. And force myself not to read. Oi.
