Seems like forever since I've logged on. Well, more news. I've got my new Athlon 64 3200+ that replaced my dead Socket A motherboard setup, HOPEFULLY this will be my last upgrade in quite some time. The motherboard that died was Gigabyte, as is this one, but I'm confident in their boards.

For right now, you can expect me to start working on some new fractals relatively soon. An interesting note (probably interesting to nerds such as myself

) : I didn't have to do anything to Windows to get it to work, despite switching from a Socket A board to a Socket 939 board. Linux, however, (and this might interest =f--l--A--r--k) cannot find my graphics card due to the new interface it's using from a different chipset, with differences in memory controllers, northbridge, southbridge, etc. I'll probably have to reformat and reinstall my Linux partition. It's no biggie, I have no important data on that partition (it's for experimenting anyway).

Well, that's all the news, so the bottom line is that I'm back in action!

I'm not dead. That much is true. The reason that I've not been active on deviantART is that my computer's motherboard is fried. (more on that later)
I'm going to be getting a new motherboard (again... all of these computer problems I've had in the past year have been just sucking the money right out of me). This recent turn of events has, however, led me to the realization that my Socket A motherboards are very outdated. Sure, they can run just about any software that's out there right now, but the design is very limited speedwise, and most computer manufacturers are not making Socket A boards for that same reason. The computer parts that I am getting are a Socket 939 Gigabyte GA-K8U-939 board, and an Athlon 64 3200+. I've been trying to keep my spending down by staying away from fancy motherboards and 64 bit processors, but when you think about it, that's the main thing that is being manufactured, and will eventually become standard compared to your typical 32 bit processors right now. I'm thankful though, that I was able to get enough money for this motherboard due to my very very frugal (read: cheap) spending habits. Okay, now to the story about my fried motherboard.

Rewind to December 29, 2005. Or at least that's when I think it happened. On December 23, I had purchased and installed a new harddrive in my computer. During that installation of the harddrive, I apparently had did some dipshit move of removing a stick of RAM while the power supply was still on. Modders beware: even if your computer is powered off, i.e. shut down, you still must unplug your computer. Normally I do this, but I forgot that time. When I had re-installed the RAM, my computer would not boot. The CPU fan would spin up, but my BIOS would not respond with a beep code or any indication of something was wrong. The computer merely stayed in an unreponsive state, with the video card not even initializing. Fearing that my computer was utterly doomed, I removed the RAM that I had forgotten to put back in earlier (I had discovered that my computer was only detecting half of the memory, so I looked and found that only one stick of RAM was in there), and my computer booted up fine! Now, back to the 29th. Deciding to give it one more shot, I put the "bad" stick of RAM back in the motherboard. I plugged it back in and powered it up. Immediately after I pressed the power button, the power light flashed for an extremely short moment and turned back off. My dad and I were stumped, so I removed the RAM once more and plugged it back in and pressed the power button. My computer would not boot. Note: This contradicted the problem of bad RAM that I thought I was having earlier. A slew of troubleshooting steps took place next, including removing any peripherals from the motherboard, including the soundcard, video card, both HDD's, the DVD-ROM drive, and the memory. My computer made a single long beep (that was a good sign, because beep codes mean that the computer is aware of a problem)... however, that was our only luck, as from that point on, the computer was unreponsive, it merely started the CPU fan and stayed like that. Later that day, we went back to the old, infamous Chaintech 7NJL6 motherboard that I had in my computer from April to August. You may remember me bitching about it at one time. If you're interested, it's still unstable. Linux freezes on it too, so don't go saying "well, duh, windows suxkz". People who go around bashing Windows for no reason just... well... piss me off. It's not a bad OS. Anyhoo, my computer parts are back-ordered and should arrive before the end of the month. Until then, I'll use my mom's computer to occasionally check my dA account and my email. Well, I am writing this journal from a Linux distribution called Ubuntu. It's not installed on my computer, as I had it start up from the CD (cool, huh?). I've got two words for it. Sex ay. Even for a CD boot, this thing is running nice and smooth. In other news, my dad and I went to CompUSA last night looking for a Maxtor drive that was advertised for $60 after rebates. Because CompUSA ran out of those, we went to Circuit City and I saw a 250 gig Western Digital drive for $80 after rebates. I decided to get it. Simple enough. 50 gigs for $20 extra seems fine to me

I haven't installed the new HD yet, but when I do, I'm going to format a partition for Ubuntu. Seems like a really smooth OS to me.

I'll still have Windows installed, don't worry.

If y'all want a rundown of my problems (oh my god I just wrote "y'all"), here it is:

Many services won't start, like firewall and security center.

Game installers crash for no reason.

Some computers on the network can't find me.

Microsoft is so lame they don't know what the hell is wrong with my pc.

I, being my own personal tech support, also don't know what the hell is wrong with this thing.

Therefore; I am reformatting. See everyone in... well, maybe tomorrow, I guess.

Just some basic news... please read.

Well, for one thing, I've got new RAM for my computer, and it's a little bit more stable. However, I still want to get a new motherboard, as my computer is still unstable. Right now, I'm making a flame fractal animation movie, which explains to you why I've been quiet recently. Don't get me wrong; I'm hard at work behind the scenes. (It's going to be great!) I'm kinda "meh" right now, because I'm just a bit tired from all this screwing around and trying to get my computer to work right

By the way, if anyone can help me find a place where I can order a new (NOT used) GA-7N400 Pro2 (Rev 2.0) motherboard, also known as the Gigabyte K-7 Triton, I'd greatly appreciate any help in my search.

It's been one year since I've joined dA, and I must say I've met some great people here. Before I get to that, I'd like to give an introduction to how I found dA.

Before I joined dA, I was a member of another art community called Renderosity. Frustrated by their 500kb upload size, and 1 upload per day limit (you had to pay just to be able to upload THREE per day), I decided to leave and find another art community. I sent emails to the Ultra Fractal Mailing List asking about where they liked to host their art. I got many responses saying that they liked Renderosity, but one person suggested a site called "deviantart". So I visited this site for the first time, and was surprised by how many times I saw stuff similar to "deviously deviant deviance", etc. So, I became a member. My first attempt at uploading to dA (as well as the second, third, fourth, and fifth) all resulted in [X] on the image. Not knowing what I was doing wrong, I just submitted some random image that I rendered straight out of Ultra Fractal... and it worked. Conclusion: I was actually saving my fractals in a JPG encoding method called "Lossless" in Paint Shop Pro, and I learned that lossless jpg encoding is supported by basically nothing. So, learning my error, I corrected it and started submitting bunches and bunches of unsubmitted fractals, which explains why a large percentage of my gallery was formed in July 2004. Now, on to some of the deviants I've met this year:

I'm only listing the ones who I communicate with on a regular basis, so don't be alarmed if you're not on here.

*janetino She's a fractallist who uses (correct me if I'm wrong) Tierazon and Terragen, there's some pretty interesting work in her gallery. Always perky and outgoing, an overall nice person. She's always putting out funny polls too

~xIsoMetrix He's an Apophysis user who's skills have improved greatly since the first time I visited his gallery. Occasionally hard to understand, he's a good person once you get to know him.

=creativ82 He is one of the more popular deviants, but doesn't necessarily carry the popular deviant stereotype. He may not respond to your comments on his deviations, but if you chat with him outside of deviantART, he's actually a pretty nice guy. Ever since I saw his work in the fractal gallery, I was inspired to improve my UF skills to rival his; but never succeeded (lol...)

=fib3rglass She is a fractallist I met just as she was starting out (I was the fourth person to devwatch her), and was impressed by her UF skills right off the bat. Lately, however, she's gone a bit quiet... so I dunno

=JFMuni A very outgoing deviant, and a fun person. Her fractals are impressive, and have always been improving. She's nice, and always tries to make funny comments on deviations.

~PimpcessTyna She's a fractallist who really deserves more pageviews than she has now. One of the lesser known deviants, I would suggest you visit her gallery; almost all of her fractals are eye-catching and beautiful.

~rubikscubefreak She's another Apophysis user, and, like ~PimpcessTyna, is underrated and deserves more pageviews than she has now. Many of her fractals are very geometric and made with precision compared to some deviants on dA who just render straight from the random batch on startup.

*Thelma1 She is an Apophysis user who I met on Renderosity, and one day, I stumbled across her newly made deviantART account when browsing the fractals section. Her flame fractals are amazing, and always impressive. Overall, a very friendly deviant.

I tried rendering "Transdimensional" over a network last night, and realized something: don't EVER do a full render over a network. This is the second time these nasty, image ruining artifacts have appeared on an image of mine (see Beyond the Event Horizon, there's chunky blocks in the middle left portion)... but the ones on this image are in a straight line, all across the image. Well, it looks like I'm rendering this on my own...

On a side note, I can't hear out of my right ear due to this buildup of wax (seemingly overnight)... don't you hate when that happens ? I feel better now. Ignore this; I was just venting... lol, I need to get ready for school now. (I'm going to Paramount's King's Island for a physics field trip tomorrow!

LOL I just noticed something: The last five journals have all had a ! at the end of their title. Go look!

I just got myself the hardcover copy of The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy... and if you haven't read it, GO GET IT! It's one of the funniest books out there, and my friends have told me that you've got to read the first book if you want to understand the movie... so go, get it!
