Brilliant movie, and incredibly inspiring.

I need to get my scanner working. Because when I do that I can give people the art trades I owe them. And the gifts I've wanted to give to people for a while. Ugh. Derned scanner.


Y'know what else is derned? Movie theaters that say one has to be accompanied by an adult, but don't accept those over 18 (such as myself) to accompany them in. Being over 18 legally counts me as an adult, does it not? I mean, I can now be charged as an adult, I can rent and see rated R (or above) movies. I can even look at pr0nz if I wanted (which I don't, so cheel 8B).
Anyway, a friend and I went to go see "30 Days of Night" today, and they gave me my ticket (though asked me why I wanted one, which is really none of their business, is it?), but my friend didn't have an ID (though she is over 17). Now, I understand that it's policy not to let someone in if they don't have an ID, so I tried to purchase her ticket. But noo, one has to be over 21 to do that. Now please, explain that to me. Is there going to be drinking inside the theater? I don't think so. But anyway, we accepted that and called her mom to come back and buy the ticket. When her mom got there, she tried to purchase the ticket, but wasn't permitted to do so unless she accompanied us into the theater. Now tell me, if someone doesn't want to see a movie, but actually drove all the way back to said theater just to help their daughter get inside, should they really be required to pay for a ticket they're not going to use? Not in my opinion. Buuut she did, just so we could go inside.
She walked us inside and left us with the friend we were meeting (and the guy who tore our tickets said that would be alright).
Ten minutes later (which was about 20 minutes into the movie, since the ordeal outside made us miss about 10 minutes), the same girl from the box office (who could not have been older than 17, herself), approached my friend and said she saw her mom leave, so she had to leave. Oh. my. word.
Sooo since she kicked my dear friend out, I promptly followed, hoping something could be worked out with the manager.
While waiting for the manager, I was discussing the trouble such an ordeal was causing us with the girl who was being such a wiatch (lawl, Covenant). Her suggestion was that my friend's mom should carry her birth certificate around in the car with her, because that's what her mom does. ...yeeah. I commented that such an uncommon thing as that was merely for special cases. But goodness. Seriously. Who does that? it confused the mess out of me, and my other friend who was there was barely suppressing a laugh at the thought.

Aaand wow.. I'm completely ranting. But shockingly enough the stressfulness of the story doesn't stop there. 8D

But as for now, I'm actually rather tired, so I'll shut myself up. Not to mention, I'll probably be repeating this story on m'facebook (-n3rd-) later, so oh well. I'll just finish it then. XD
But seriously. People are stupid.
We never did get to see the movie.
Therefore I'm going to avoid that movie theater as much as possible from now on.

..And I still want to see the darn movie.

Anywho, life's been pretty spiffy lately. My 18th birthday was last Friday, so yay, I'm LEGAL. 8D Hah, oh the excitement. Went to an Irish restaurant with me buds, and later watched "Disturbia," which is a really good movie. It suprised me. And it's got Shia. MmMm. 8]

I've also been obsessing about Harry Potter a bit lately. But then again, with the final book coming out, what fan hasn't? 8D 'Twas a grand book. I'll probably copy my ramblings onto here later, with a good spoiler warning at the top. Mhm.
Anywho, now I'm rereading one of the books I kind of skimmed through, and very much enjoying it.
And in my opinion, J.K. Rowling needs to write some Marauder tales, instead of quitting her authoring career simply because she's the richest woman in the world. That's a bad reason to quit. And I'm a geek for the Marauders. The end.

1st Place: There was actually a tie for first place.
's 'Point of No Return' and 's 'Moulin Rouge' entry.
They both depicted their chosen scene so marvelously, and just a glance could show you the exact part of the movie the entry was from. The scenery in the pictures was also a great choice for each. The floating candles, which look so much like a scene from a dream, in Tsairi's entry was a great touch, and that complex background in Abyss' entry was accomplished so greatly. The outfits also look stunning in both entries, and really add to them. x3 So congratulations, you two. : D

2nd Place- Coming in second place is 's hilarious Monty Python entry. She just showed the scene so perfectly, especially with those expressions. xD And she had that unique idea of adding a screenshot as the background, which looks really nifty. Great job, Kippy. ;3

3rd Place- 's entry based on Underworld is definatly a great one, indeed. The background shows the setting and feel of the scene so well, as does the expression she gave Laur. Not to mention, that awesomely done outfit and that gun confirms just what type of movie/mood this picture is portraying. Congrats, Vanneh. X3


Superbly major thanks to all of you. I mean, I know I took forever judging, but I really had an awesome time with this contest. Though I wasn't too happy when I reminded myself I had to choose winners for only three places. I will update this journal whenever I add something that could be vital to the contest. This is just so you may remain informed of additions to movies or extended idea and such. :3 Anywho, onto that which has been spoken of...

Theme
The theme is movies.
Below I shall give you a list of films that appeal to me. I placed them in alphabetical order, not in the order of how much I like them. (More shall probably come, and you may suggest one if you think I may have forgotten it.) No one movie will impact your chances of winning more than another. Each entry shall be judged by the effort and idea(it doesn't have to be uberly creative; just no stick figures. ) of the individual artist.

Objective
The main objective of this contest is to choose one of the listed movies and draw a picture(scene) of/from it. This drawing should include my fursona(references shall be listed) as a part of the scene. For example, say you chose Lord of the Rings. You could draw Laur drooling madly over the one ring. xD In a sentence, you are merely drawing Laur as if she were a character in the actual movie. Your character may also be included in the picture, if you like. ^^
There are practically no restrictions for what character of the movie you make my fursona. It doesn't even matter if the character you make me is originally a guy in the film. Just switch it from a guy to the Laur. xD
Or if you chose a movie that involved a group of people(Let's use Pitch Black, for example, because I didn't like that movie, so it's not on the list. (: ), you could just shove my fursona in there with your character(and or other random characters that don't even need to exist {or ones that represent the other characters in the movie}) and put them in a scene that occured, and that could be your entry. ^^ Hope that made sense.
Laur can be either quad or anthro in your drawing. She's usually quad, though I've never really seen her drawn as anthro, so you are welcome to do so. ^^

Rules
1. No gore. A little bit of blood is alright, I s'pose. x) It's just that I hope to display all entries on my bedroom wall, and my dad probably wouldn't be too thrilled if he saw one with its entrails hanging out.
2. No sexuality, for the same reason as listed above. My fursona is usually a quad, so it would be difficult to do this anyway, but still.
3. No foul language. Same reason as above.
4. Try to be imaginative. Though the contest is based on scenes from a movie, it's not hard to throw a little of your own pizzazz. x3
5. You may create your own commentary to the picture, if you like. Or you can use quotes/lyrics from the film(or the film's soundtrack if lyrics are chosen). Or you can simply have the picture speak for itself. This is your choice. ^^
6mood. Your entry may be comedic, dramatic, action-packed, etc. Anything goes. X3
7. The listed movies are not restricted to one person's use. If one entry is already based on one of the films below, do not hesitate creating your own entry based on the same movie. I'd love to see different perceptions and scenes. ^_^ Just don't copy other person's idea. You know that. x3

Description

Theme
The theme is movies.
Below I shall give you a list of films that appeal to me. I placed them in alphabetical order, not in the order of how much I like them. (More shall probably come, and you may suggest one if you think I may have forgotten it.) No one movie will impact your chances of winning more than another. Each entry shall be judged by the effort and idea(it doesn't have to be uberly creative; just no stick figures. ) of the individual artist.

Objective
The main objective of this contest is to choose one of the listed movies and draw a picture(scene) of/from it. This drawing should include my fursona(references shall be listed) as a part of the scene. For example, say you chose Lord of the Rings. You could draw Laur drooling madly over the one ring. xD In a sentence, you are merely drawing Laur as if she were a character in the actual movie. Your character may also be included in the picture, if you like. ^^
There are practically no restrictions for what character of the movie you make my fursona. It doesn't even matter if the character you make me is originally a guy in the film. Just switch it from a guy to the Laur. xD
Or if you chose a movie that involved a group of people(Let's use Pitch Black, for example, because I didn't like that movie, so it's not on the list. (: ), you could just shove my fursona in there with your character(and or other random characters that don't even need to exist {or ones that represent the other characters in the movie}) and put them in a scene that occured, and that could be your entry. ^^ Hope that made sense.
Laur can be either quad or anthro in your drawing. She's usually quad, though I've never really seen her drawn as anthro , so you are welcome to do so. ^^

Rules
1. No gore. A little bit of blood is alright, I s'pose. x) It's just that I hope to display all entries on my bedroom wall, and my dad probably wouldn't be too thrilled if he saw one with its entrails hanging out.
2. No sexuality, for the same reason as listed above. My fursona is usually a quad, so it would be difficult to do this anyway, but still.
3. Try to be imaginative. Though the contest is based on scenes from a movie, it's not hard to throw a little of your own pizzazz. x3
4. You may create your own commentary to the picture, if you like. Or you can use quotes/lyrics from the film(or the film's soundtrack if lyrics are chosen). Or you can simply have the picture speak for itself. This is your choice. ^^
5. Remember, this contest does not restrict you to a certain mood. Your entry may be comedic, dramatic, action-packed, etc. Anything goes. X3
6. The listed movies are not restricted to one person's use. If one entry is already based on one of the films below, do not hesitate creating your own entry based on the same movie. I'd love to see different perceptions and scenes. ^_^ Just don't copy other person's idea. You know that. x3
7. Multiple entries are allowed. ^^

Holy cow, that movie was wondrous. I mean, when I saw the preview for the first time, I know my eyes just popped open, simply because I recognized Gerard Butler in a split second. xD But yes, I did really want to see the movie. Then of course, the amount of previews grew, as did my longing to see the film. So we ended up seeing it tonight and, as I already said, it was completely stunning. I adore that movie. o_o It was emotional in so many forms of the word. And Gerard's performance was perfect, and I love his singing. And I love the fact that they didn't make him discard of his Scottish accent. It adds so much. :3 But yes, I truly loved this movie. So much so, that I'm tempted to write a poem of it. o-o I mean, it won't be of the movie, but it will probably be based on some of the characters(mainly The Phantom). But yeh, would any of you be against this? o-o Because I'd probably use a few lines from the movie, and I know that some people really do have a problem with people doing that. xD So yes, do tell if you're against it in any way. o_o

Also, yep. Laur wants a rose. A red rose. With a black ribbon on it. Because for some reason, that part really showed some symbolism and an extreme amount of beauty to me. I loved it. n_n I envy the recipient of the rose. It was so beautiful. u-u

I have two light sketches of it; one is the same as the other, and the other has the paw being pressed against something. But I can't decide.

I'm thinking of attempting to draw something based on the lyrics to So Cold, but at the moment, no ideas, simply because I suck at making sceneries. xD But I'll accomplish such a thing sooner or later. x3

No, I don't mean joking either. I do that all the time. Hell, I'll call every single one of my friends insane in a single day. But no, what I'm talking about is when people who have been sent to institutions or hospitals or something begin to brag about their visits. Yes, people do that. Too fuckin' much. And the thing that pisses me off the most is when I know they were only sent there to because someone exaggerated.
I know some people that will seriously brag, and I mean flat out brag, about being depressed or 'insane.' First of all, if you're insane, I highly doubt you'd have the sanity or the will to be proud of such a thing. Secondly, insanity is a serious mental problem, people. It's really nothing to be proud of. You know those people rocking back and forth in straight jackets in movies? They're probably there due to an extreme case of mental trauma or some other experience. Or something that caused them to be declared mentally unstable. Yes, insane people drool, mutter incoherantly, and are usually looked down upon or feared. I've never heard of a mental patient sitting at home, hanging out at the computer, and having a normal day to day life. Yes, some psychos or attempting rapists may do that, but not people who are seriously ill mentally.
And really, I don't see why anyone would ever want to be like that. It's just not normal, nor is it something to envy. For goodness sake, it's classified as 'menally disordered.' Is that something that sounds natural or healthy? Hell no.
So people should shut the hell up with their "I'm so cool because I've been in an asylum, and I get to go there again next week! 8D"
Yeah, and those other people who claim that they're depressed about it, and yet they try to hold it over your head or something. Like "holy shit, you don't /know/ what it's like. Like, I'm insane, which means I have SO many more problems than you." Shut the fuck up. --
Yes, I am fully aware that some people /are/ insane. That's what this whole rant is about. So don't turn around and try to shove that in my face.
And I'm sorry if I sound insensitive. Honestly, I do sympathize with those people. I'd hate a life locked inside a cell, or one where I was simply locked within my own mind.
And yes, I do joke about it. But that's why it's a freakin' joke. Because I'm not serious. It's a joke. Yes.
So yeah, no need for all you people to hate me because of this. I'm just expressing my anger, because it really does piss me off when people think they're cool because everyone thinks they're something they're not. Insanity is not something to seriously brag about.
Joking about it is fine. I do it all the time. And hell, jokes are funny, so it's fun. xD But yeah. Anyway..

Y'know, another thing that's pissing me off are those damned horizontal adds up there near the top of the page. Actually, just one imparticular is getting me mad. I don't like having to worry about my dad looking over my shoulder. and me being scared he'll see the screen, simply because someone designed '100% kickass clothing.' It's unnecessary. And was the only add I saw on every single page yesterday. o_o -Kills it- Let's mutiny. :}

Thing is, we never do. Today he said he'd be home at three to three thirty so we could do something. He got home at four thirty. Then he said he was ready to leave when I was. Guess what. I was ready at three thirty. We didn't actually leave to do something until around seven or something. And what did we do? We went to Walmart, which I was okay with. But I ended up just sitting there for a while because he was looking at stuff. Then he got something and we left. Next stop was Target, where I looked at stuff for about two minutes then got bored. He looked at stuff for about twenty to thirty minutes, so I just walked around for about that long. After that, we went to Hollywood Video to go grab some movies to rent. Yeah, that wasn't bad. But we always get videos. There was nothing different about it. Nothing special. Oh, and yeah, he did say 'sorry' a few times. But, this was one of those times that actions spoke louder than words. The things that we did were his errands. Nothing fun, like he said we'd do. And yeah, now we're back home, and what do you think he's doing? Watching football. Yep. So I can't even watch my movies until this dumb game is over.

Well, okay, guess I'm not so pissed about anything at the moment. Dad went into the hospital again Saturday morning, and somehow David, and Cathryn, and our school secretary. Heh, the latter didn't do much to boost my happiness, but the former sure did. I guess I kinda feel someone cares, at least. I mean, it's not about the hospital thing (that happens all the time..though, granted, I don't like those times), it's the fact that they actually took time to call me and see if I wanted to do anything. Heh, couldn't do anything with David because he had plans, but I think I'm going to go see Shaun of the Dead with Cathryn after six or something. So yay. Yeah, I'm ticked and upset once again. Honestly, why the hell can't I get a single freakin' thing to go my way this week? Gosh. I haven't had one bit of fun since Monday. That is, excluding my conversations with some of my friends and such. Ugh.
Yeah, for a brief idea: I wanted to go see a movie tonight. The Forgotten, to be exact. Dad says I can go, but he's still sick from his last visit to the hospital and all that. He made plans for one of his friends to come by and drop me off at the theater. His friend should be here at 8:00. So, about half an hour ago, I check movie times. The movie starts at 8:00. So he calls his friend to see if he can still take me. He can't, so my dad tells me to pick a different movie. I said something like "There's no other movies that I want to see." Well, there aren't. Not right now, at least. So, out of the blue, he says "Okay. No movie." Then walks off muttering how inconsiderate I am. Now wtf? o_o I don't see it. Yeah, maybe I am an ass, but I haven't been one today. So that really ticked me off. And, now I'm just sitting here in an attempt to vent because I'm pissed.

Actually, this isn't really a rant. Just..me blabbing again. Heh, I dunno. Still feel down. Don't feel like stating the exact reason, but still. I mean..have you ever pushed yourself to finally say something, to finally tell what you've kept locked inside for so long..and then it all amounts to nothing? And then, you think maybe you can shove it behind you, forget you ever opened your mouth, and everything will be better. Well, it doesn't. At least not for me. I mean, I shouldn't care so much. But I do. Really do wish I'd just smash my head against something..just to make me feel better. Because right now I feel like my words amount to the same as my past actions. Nothing. Yep. A big amount of nothing.
